Blue Line – Events Affecting Service

All Late Night Trains Operating on the Same Tracks Between LaSalle and Racine

Late night Blue Line trains will be routed to operate on the eastbound (to O’Hare) tracks between the LaSalle and Racine stations from 10 p.m. each night until 6 a.m. the following morning beginning Friday night, September 16 and then again on Saturday night, September 17, due to plumbing repair work at the Halsted station.
 
During these times, westbound (to Forest Park) Blue Line customers at the LaSalle, Clinton and UIC-Halsted stations must board and exit trains from the eastbound (to O’Hare) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Late Night Boarding Changes at the Rosemont Station Next Week

All late night Blue Line trains will be routed to operate on the northbound (to O’Hare) tracks at the Rosemont station from 11 p.m. Wednesday, September 21 until 4 a.m. the following morning, due to track maintenance work.
 
Southbound (to Forest Park) customers at the Rosemont station must board and exit trains from the northbound (to O’Hare) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Red Line – Events Affecting Service

Late Night Trains Operating on Same Tracks at the 69th Street Station

All late night Red Line trains will be routed to operate on the northbound (to Howard) tracks at the 69th Street station this weekend and next week due to track maintenance work.
 
Friday and Saturday Nights
From 10 p.m. Friday, September 16 until 6 a.m. the following morning and then again from 10 p.m. Saturday, September 17 until 6 a.m. the following morning, southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) customers at the 69th Street station must board and exit trains from the northbound (to Howard) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 
Sunday Night
From 10 p.m. Sunday, September 18 until 4:30 a.m. the following morning, southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) customers at the 69th Street station must board and exit trains from the northbound (to Howard) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 
Monday Night
From 10:30 p.m. Monday, September 19 until 4:30 a.m. the following morning, southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) customers at the 69th Street station must board and exit trains from the northbound (to Howard) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Boarding Changes at Sox-35th Tuesday Night Due to Track Maintenance Work

All late night Red Line trains will be routed to operate on the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) tracks between the 47th Street and Cermak-Chinatown stations from 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 20 until 4:30 a.m. the following morning, due to track maintenance work.
 
Northbound customers at the Sox-35th station must board and exit trains from the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Service for Upcoming Events

Northern Illinois Huskies versus Wisconsin Badgers at Soldier Field

The CTA will provide additional bus and rail service to accommodate fans attending the Northern Illinois versus Wisconsin football game at Soldier Field on Saturday,
September 17. Kickoff is at 2:20 p.m.
 
Longer trains will operate along the Brown Line from Kimball beginning at 11 a.m. until 6:30 p.m.
 
In addition, articulated buses will operate every 10 minutes along the #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express route beginning at 11:30 a.m. until approximately one hour after the event. All #146 buses serve the Museum Campus which is adjacent to the stadium.
 

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

NEW: Four Routes Detoured in the Loop on Saturday for Filming of “Superman”

From 4 a.m. until approximately 9 p.m. Saturday, September 17, #14 Jeffery Express, #20 Madison, #22 Clark and #56 Milwaukee buses will be detoured due to the closure of LaSalle Street between Madison and Randolph, Clark Street between Madison and Randolph, and Washington Street between Wells and Dearborn due to the filming of the movie “Superman.”
 
Northbound #14 buses will travel over the regular route along Madison past Dearborn to Franklin then will operate via Franklin to Randolph and then resume the regular route. Southbound #14 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 
Eastbound #20 and southbound #56 buses will operate over their regular routes along Washington to Franklin then will travel via Franklin, Monroe, State to Washington and then resume their regular routes. Westbound #20 and northbound #56 buses will operate over their regular routes along Madison past LaSalle to Franklin then will travel via Franklin, Randolph, Clinton to Madison and then resume their regular routes.
 
Southbound #22 buses will travel over the regular route along Clark to Wacker then will operate via Wacker, State, Madison to Clark and then resume the regular route. Northbound #22 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.


UPDATE: Water Department Project on Madison Detours Two Westbound Bus Routes

The reroute for westbound #19 United Center Express and #20 Madison buses due to a Water Department project on Madison between LaSalle and Franklin has been extended and is in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, September 23.
 
Westbound #19 and #20 buses are traveling along Madison to LaSalle then are operating via LaSalle, Randolph, Clinton to Madison and then resuming the regular route. Eastbound #19 and #20 buses are not affected and are traveling over their regular routes.
 
(NOTE: this reroute supersedes the reroute previously in place for westbound #19 and #20 buses as part of the Stage II Wacker Drive detours)
 

UPDATE: #26 South Shore Express and #30 South Chicago Buses Detoured

Currently in effect and extended until approximately 2 p.m. Sunday, October 16, #26 South Shore Express and #30 South Chicago buses are being detoured due to the closure of the 92nd Street Bridge over the Calumet River for repair work.
 
Southbound #26 and #30 buses are traveling over their regular routes along 91st Street to Mackinaw then are operating via Mackinaw, Harbor, South Chicago, 95th Street to Ewing and then resuming their regular routes. Northbound #26 and #30 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Sewer Construction project Detours #59 59th/61st Buses

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Wednesday, September 21, #59 59th/61st buses are being rerouted due to the closure of 59th Street between Normal and Parnell due to a sewer construction project.
 
Eastbound #59 buses are operating over the regular route along 59th Street to Halsted then are traveling via Halsted, 55th Street, Wells, 57th Street to Wentworth and resuming the regular route.
 
Westbound #59 buses are operating over the regular route along 55th Street past the Garfield Red Line station to Halsted then are traveling via Halsted to 59th Street and resuming the regular route.
 

Blackhawks Mad Dash to Madison 5K Run, Walk and Skate Detours Three Routes

From 7:30 a.m. until approximately 11:30 a.m. Saturday, September 17, #9 Ashland, #20 Madison and #50 Damen buses will be rerouted due to the closure of Madison between Oakley and Ashland for the Blackhawks Mad Dash to Madison 5K Run, Walk and Skate.
 
Northbound #9 buses will travel over the regular route along Ashland to Ogden then will operate via Ogden, Fulton to Ashland and then resume the regular route. Southbound #9 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Eastbound #20 buses will travel along Madison to Western then will operate via Western, Harrison, Ogden to Madison and then resume the regular route. Westbound #20 buses will operate along Madison to Ogden then will travel via Ogden, Van Buren, Western to Madison and then resume the regular route.
 
Northbound #50 buses will travel over the regular route along Damen to Van Buren then will operate via Van Buren, Western, Grand to Damen then resume the regular route. Southbound #50 buses will operate over the regular route along Damen to Grand then will travel via Grand, Western, Jackson to Damen and then resume the regular route.
 

Lawndale 5K Walk/Run Detours Two Bus Routes on Saturday

On Saturday, September 17 from 7:30 a.m. to noon, #52 Kedzie/California and
#82 Kimball/Homan buses will be detoured due to the closure of Central Park between Douglas and Ogden, and Douglas Boulevard between Central Park and Albany for the annual Lawndale 5K Walk/Run.
 
Southbound #52 buses will travel over the regular route along Kedzie to Roosevelt then will operate via Roosevelt, California, Ogden to Kedzie and then resume the regular route. Northbound #52 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Southbound #82 buses will operate over the regular route along Homan to Roosevelt then will travel via Roosevelt, Pulaski, Cermak to Central Park and then resume the regular route. Northbound #82 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Pakistan Independence Parade Reroutes #49B North Western and #155 Devon Buses

On Sunday, September 18 from noon until approximately 2:30 p.m., #49B North Western and #155 Devon buses will be detoured due to the closure of Devon Avenue between Damen and Western, and the northbound lanes of Western Avenue between Devon and Pratt for the annual Pakistan Independence Parade.
 
Northbound #49B buses will operate over the regular route along Western to Peterson then will travel via Peterson, California, Lunt to Western and then resume the regular route. Southbound #49B buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 
Eastbound #155 Devon buses will operate over the regular route along Devon to California then will travel via California, Lunt, Ridge to Devon and then resume the regular route. Westbound #155 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Ongoing Bus Service Changes

Street Repair Work Detours Eastbound #18 16th/18th Buses

Currently in effect until approximately 6 p.m. Friday, September 23, eastbound #18 16th/18th buses are being detoured due to the closure of the eastbound lanes of 16th Street between Rockwell and Western for a street repair and repaving project.
 
Eastbound #18 buses are traveling over the regular route along 16th Street to Washtenaw then are operating via Washtenaw, Ogden, Western to 16th Street and then resuming the regular route. Westbound #18 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 

Repairs to Bridge Detour #111 Pullman/111th/115th Buses

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, September 30, #111 Pullman/111th/115th buses are being detoured from Cottage Grove between 98th Street and 100th Place due to bridge repair work.
 
Southbound #111 buses are traveling over the regular route along 95th Street to King Drive then operating via King Drive, 100th Street to Cottage Grove and resuming the regular route. Northbound #111 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Near North Farmer’s Market Detours #36 Broadway and #70 Division Buses

From 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Saturday through October 29, #36 Broadway and #70 Division buses will be detoured due to the closure of Division Street between State and Clark for the Near North Farmer’s Market.
 
Southbound #36 buses will travel over the regular route along Clark past Division to Maple then will operate via Maple to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along State to Elm then will travel via Elm to Clark and then resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #70 buses will travel over the regular route along Division to Clark and then will operate via Clark, Maple to Dearborn and then resume the regular route. Westbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route. 
 

Temporary Removal of Bus Stop at Stony Island/83rd Street

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, November 18, the northbound near side stop at Stony Island/83rd Street has been temporarily removed from service due to a water management construction project. This stop is served by #28 Stony Island and #X28 Stony Island Express buses.
 

Construction Detours #20 Madison and #90 Harlem Buses Until December

Currently in effect until Friday, December 2, eastbound #20 Madison (Owl service) buses and #90 Harlem buses are being detoured due to the closure of North Boulevard and South Boulevard between Marion and Home for a construction project.
 
Eastbound #20 (Owl service) buses are operating over the regular route along Harlem past North Boulevard to Washington then are traveling via Washington, Maple, Randolph, Harlem to Lake and resuming the regular route. Westbound #20 (Owl service) buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 
Southbound #90 buses are traveling over the regular route along Harlem past North Boulevard to Washington then are operating via Washington, Maple, Randolph, Harlem to Harlem/South Boulevard before beginning northbound service. From Harlem/South Boulevard, northbound #90 buses are traveling north on Harlem over the regular route.
 

Lane Restrictions near State and Grand Detour #29 State and #36 Broadway Buses

Due to lane restrictions associated with the Grand Red Line rehabilitation project at the northwest corner of State and Grand, #29 State and #36 Broadway buses are being detoured to adjacent streets until further notice.
 
Southbound #29 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand past State to Clark then traveling via Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #29 buses are traveling along the remaining open lane along State and over the regular route.
 
Southbound #36 buses are traveling over the regular route along State to Ontario then are operating via Ontario, Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #36 buses are operating over the regular route along Dearborn past Illinois to Ohio then traveling via Ohio to State and resuming the regular route.
 

Changes in Service along #8 Halsted Route for Bridge Reconstruction Project

Currently in effect until late-December 2011, Halsted Street between Division and the north branch of the Chicago River is closed due to a bridge reconstruction project.
 
Northbound #8 Halsted buses are traveling over the regular route along Halsted past Chicago to North Branch then are operating via North Branch, Cherry, Division to Halsted and then resuming the regular route. Southbound #8 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 
Changes to Bus Stops
  • Halsted/North Branch: the northbound far side stop on Halsted has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop on North Branch at Halsted.
  • Halsted/Division: the southbound far side stop has been temporarily relocated to a near side stop.
 

Service Changes to 14 Downtown Bus Routes for Stage II of Wacker Drive Project

Currently in effect, changes in service have been made to 14 CTA bus routes that operate in the downtown area near Wacker Drive and Madison due to work associated with Stage II of the Wacker Drive construction project.
 
Construction on Wacker Drive will result in changes along the following routes: 
 
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick (bus stops only)
#121 Union/Wacker Express
#14 Jeffery Express
#122 Illinois Center/Ogilvie Express
#19 United Center Express
#123 Illinois Center/Union Express
#20 Madison
#124 Navy Pier

#129 West Loop/South Loop
#120 Ogilvie/Wacker Express

Service Adjustments Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project

Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project, Franklin Street between Harrison and Van Buren and Lower Wacker Drive between Randolph and Harrison are closed until May 2012. As a result of these closures and other street reconfigurations, the following changes in bus service currently are in effect:
 
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
Northbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses are traveling over the regular route along Harrison to Canal then are operating via Canal, Jackson to Franklin and resuming the regular route. Southbound #11 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes also have been made to bus stops served by northbound #11 buses:
 
  • Canal/Harrison: a far side stop has been added to service.
  • Canal/Jackson: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Jackson at the Chicago River: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • 404 W. Harrison: the mid-block stop has been removed from service.
  • Franklin/Van Buren: the far side stop has been removed from service.
 
#121 Union/Wacker Express
Northbound #121 Union/Wacker Express buses are operating over the regular route along Jackson past Wacker to Franklin then are traveling via Franklin, Lake, Post Place to Lower Wacker and then resuming the regular route.
 
Southbound #121 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand to Wabash then traveling via Wabash, Wacker, Franklin to Adams and then resuming the regular route.

 

#135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express buses are traveling south on Wacker to Jackson then are traveling east on Jackson past Franklin and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #135 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express buses are operating south on Wacker to Van Buren then are traveling via Van Buren, Canal to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #136 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#156 LaSalle (PM Service Only)
During the evening rush period only, northbound #156 LaSalle buses departing from Union Station are traveling west on Van Buren to Wacker then are operating via Wacker to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary bus stop change has been made and is in effect for northbound #156 buses during the evening rush period only: 
 
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 

Relocation of #36 Broadway Bus Stop Due to Nearby Construction

Currently in effect until Friday, July 12, 2013, the southbound near side stop at Broadway/Elmdale served by #36 Broadway buses has been relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction.
