Events Affecting CTA Service Beginning the Weekend of October 9-11

Blue Line – Slow Zone Work

No Construction Work in Dearborn Subway this Weekend

CTA’s Blue Line trains will operate along the normal route through the Dearborn Subway this weekend. 
 
Construction work in the Dearborn Subway is scheduled to resume next weekend. 
 

Trains Undergo Late Night Single Track Next Week at the Austin Station

A late night single track will be in effect for eastbound Blue Line trains at the Austin station on the Forest Park branch from 9 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Sunday, October 11 through Thursday morning, October 15. 
 
During these times, eastbound Blue Line customers at the Austin station must board and exit trains from the westbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Two-Phase Single Track in Effect Thursday Night between the Austin and Pulaski Stations

Eastbound Blue Line trains will undergo a two-phase late night single track between the Austin and Pulaski stations on the Forest Park branch beginning Thursday night, October 15.
 
Phase I – Cicero to Pulaski
From 9 p.m. Thursday, October 15 until 1 a.m. the following morning, eastbound Blue Line customers at the Cicero and Pulaski stations must board and exit trains from the westbound side of the platform.
 
Phase II – Austin to Pulaski
From 1 a.m. until 4 a.m. on Friday, October 16, eastbound Blue Line customers at the Austin, Cicero and Pulaski stations must board and exit trains from the westbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Red Line – Slow Zone Work

No Construction Work at the Sheridan Station This Weekend or Next Week

Northbound and southbound Red Line trains will operate normally at the Sheridan station this weekend and next week. Customers will board and exit trains from the inner Red Line platforms.
 

Red/Brown Lines – Other Events Affecting Service

Southbound Trains Rerouted at Fullerton and Belmont This Weekend

A reroute will be in effect for Red and Brown line trains at the Belmont and Fullerton stations this weekend due to work on the platform canopies. Southbound Red and Brown line trains temporarily will be rerouted to operate on the northbound tracks from 9 p.m. Friday, October 9 until 9 p.m. Saturday, October 10.
 
Southbound Red and Brown line customers at the Belmont and Fullerton stations must board and exit trains from the northbound Red Line side of the platform. Northbound Red Line customers at these stations must board and exit trains from the northbound Brown Line side of the platform.
 
During these times, northbound Red and Brown line trains will make stops at Diversey and Wellington; however, southbound Brown Line trains will not stop at either station.
 
Southbound Brown Line customers who want to exit at Wellington or Diversey should ride to Fullerton and transfer to a northbound train to their respective station. Customers at Wellington and Diversey who want to travel south should take a northbound train to Belmont and transfer to a southbound train.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the route and direction of each train.
 

Northbound Red and Brown Line Trains Rerouted at Fullerton Next Week

Work on the platform canopies continues next week at the Fullerton station resulting in the temporary reroute of northbound Red and Brown line trains. Trains will operate on the southbound tracks from 9 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Monday night, October 12 through Friday morning, October 16.
 
Northbound Red and Brown line customers at the Fullerton station must board and exit trains from the southbound Red Line side of the platform. Southbound Red Line customers at Fullerton must board and exit trains from the southbound Brown Line side of the platform.
 
During these times, northbound Brown Line trains will be unable to stop at Diversey and Wellington. Northbound Brown Line customers who want to exit at Diversey or Wellington should ride to Belmont and transfer to a southbound train to their respective station. Customers at Diversey and Wellington who want to travel north should take a southbound train to Fullerton and transfer to a northbound train.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the route and direction of each train.
 

Additional Service for Special Events

CTA Provides Service to Health and Fitness Expo and Bank of America Chicago Marathon

Health & Fitness Expo
CTA is a convenient travel option to the Health and Fitness Expo on Friday and Saturday, October 9 and 10, and for spectators and participants heading to the Bank of America Chicago Marathon on Sunday, October 11. 
 
More frequent service on the #3 King Drive route will operate between McCormick Place and Chicago and Michigan avenues for the Health and Fitness Expo until 8 p.m. Friday, October 9 and then again from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday,
October 10.
 
Bank of America Chicago Marathon
The marathon begins at 7:30 a.m. Sunday, October 11, starting just north of Jackson on Columbus Drive with the course winding through numerous city neighborhoods. 
 
CTA personnel will be on duty at select stations along the Blue, Red, Green, Brown, Pink and Orange lines and at major bus stops to assist customers and to provide travel information. 
 
CTA will operate longer trains to accommodate expected crowds. Because bus routes in the vicinity of the marathon also will be impacted with intermittent reroutes or delays due to lane closures, CTA recommends customers allow extra travel time.
 
To decrease travel time and reduce lines, customers heading to the marathon are encouraged to buy CTA farecards or Visitor Passes in advance with sufficient value, or to add enough value to their farecards for their return trips later in the day.

Set-Up and Clean-Up of Chicago Marathon Detours Six CTA Bus Routes

Columbus Drive between Roosevelt and Congress and Balbo Drive between Michigan and Lake Shore Drive is currently closed until 6:30 a.m. Sunday, October 11, and then again from approximately 4 p.m. Sunday until 6 a.m. Monday, October 12, due to the set-up and clean-up of the Bank of America Chicago Marathon. As a result, six CTA bus routes will be rerouted to adjacent streets to maintain service.
 
Northbound #2 Hyde Park Express and #10 Museum of Science & Industry buses will travel over their regular routes along Lake Shore Drive to Columbus then will operate via Columbus, Roosevelt, Michigan to Balbo and then resume their regular routes west on Balbo. Southbound #2 and #10 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Northbound #6 Jackson Park Express, #14 Jeffery Express, #26 South Shore Express and #X28 Stony Island Express buses will operate over their regular routes along Lake Shore Drive to Columbus then will travel via Columbus, Roosevelt to Michigan then resume their regular routes north on Michigan. Southbound #6, #14, #26 and #X28 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

#19 United Center Express Serves Upcoming Events

CTA will operate its #19 United Center Express buses for the following events at the United Center:
 
  • Saturday, October 10 at 7:30 p.m. – Colorado Avalanche versus Blackhawks
  • Monday, October 12 at 7 p.m. – Calgary Flames versus Blackhawks
  • Tuesday, October 13 at 7 p.m. – Milwaukee Bucks versus Bulls (preseason game)
  • Wednesday, October 14 at 7:30 p.m. – Edmonton Oilers versus Blackhawks
  • Friday, October 16 at 7 p.m. – Minnesota Wild versus Bulls (preseason game)
 
Buses will leave every 10 minutes from Michigan and Randolph beginning 90 minutes before the start of each event until the event begins.  When the event ends, #19 buses will depart the United Center approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.
 
#19 buses no longer make stops along Michigan Avenue north of Randolph, but continue to make all stops on Madison from Wabash to Clinton.  From Clinton, #19 buses run express to the United Center.
 
After each game, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3.  On the return trip, #19 buses will operate east on Washington to Wacker, then head south to Monroe and east to Michigan, making all stops from Jefferson to Michigan before turning north on Michigan and making the final stop at Randolph.
 

Blackhawks Opening Night Event Detours #19 United Center Express and #20 Madison Buses

Madison Street between Damen and Wood will be closed to all traffic from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Saturday, October 10, due to the Blackhawks Opening Night Event.  
 
Westbound #19 buses will travel over the regular route along Damen to Warren where they will make a service stop before turning to begin eastbound service. Eastbound #19 buses will continue along Warren to Wood where they will make a service stop for all remaining customers to exit.  From Warren/Wood, eastbound #19 buses will travel over the regular route.
 
Eastbound #20 Madison buses will operate over the regular route along Madison to Damen then will travel via Damen, Warren, Ashland to Madison and then resume the regular route.
 
Westbound #20 buses will travel over the regular route along Madison to Ashland then will operate via Ashland, Washington, Damen to Madison and then resume the regular route.
 

Temporary Reroute of #60 Blue Island/26th Buses

Loomis Street between 18th Street and 18th Place will be closed to all traffic from 6 a.m. Monday, October 12 until 6 a.m. Monday, October 19 due to streetscape and crosswalk restoration work.
 
Eastbound #60 Blue Island/26th buses will operate over the regular route along Blue Island to Ashland then will travel via Ashland, 18th Street to Blue Island and then resume the regular route. Westbound #60 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Six CTA Bus Routes Detoured for Columbus Day Parade in Grant Park

From 6 a.m. until 3 p.m. Monday, October 12, Columbus Drive between Roosevelt and Monroe, and Balbo Drive between Michigan and Lake Shore Drive will be closed to all traffic for the Columbus Day Parade. The parade will step off at 12:30 p.m. and proceed north on Columbus to Monroe.
 
Northbound #2 Hyde Park Express and #10 Museum of Science & Industry buses will travel over their regular routes along Columbus to Roosevelt then will operate via Roosevelt, Michigan to Balbo and then resume their regular routes west along Balbo. Southbound #2 and #10 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Northbound #6 Jackson Park Express, #14 Jeffery Express, #26 South Shore Express and #X28 Stony Island Express buses will operate over their regular routes along Columbus to Roosevelt then will operate via Roosevelt to Michigan and then will resume their regular routes north of Balbo. Southbound #14, #26 and #X28 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Southbound #6 buses will travel over the regular route along Balbo to Michigan then will operate via Michigan, Roosevelt to Columbus and then will resume the regular route.
 

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

Construction Work at the Fullerton Station Detours #11 and #74 Buses

Due to work associated with the Brown Line capacity expansion project, Fullerton Avenue at the Red/Brown Line station will be closed to all traffic from 9 p.m. Friday, October 9 until 11 a.m. the following morning.
 
Southbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses will operate over the regular route along Lincoln past Sheffield to Fullerton where they will make a near side service stop and then will continue southeast on Lincoln over the regular route.
 
Northbound #11 buses will travel over the regular route along Lincoln to Fullerton where they will make a far side stop then will continue northwest along Lincoln and resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #74 Fullerton buses will travel over the regular route along Fullerton to Sheffield where they will make a near side service stop. Buses will travel south on Sheffield to Webster then will operate via Webster, Lincoln, Sheffield to Fullerton.
 
Westbound service along the #74 route will begin at Fullerton/Sheffield and buses will continue west on Fullerton over the regular route.
 

1st Annual Belmont/Clark Music Festival Detours #77 Belmont Buses

Due the 1st Annual Belmont/Clark Music Festival, Belmont Avenue between Sheffield and Clark will be closed to all traffic from 2 a.m. Saturday, October 10 until 4 a.m. Sunday, October 11.
 
Eastbound #77 Belmont buses will travel over the regular route to Belmont/Sheffield, then will operate via Sheffield, Addison, Clark then return to Belmont and resume the regular route. Westbound buses will travel the reverse route.
 

#22 Clark Buses Detoured in the Loop Saturday Morning for Helicopter Lift

Clark Street between Van Buren and Congress will be closed to all traffic from 8 a.m. until 9 a.m. Saturday, October 10, due to a scheduled helicopter lift.
 
Southbound #22 Clark buses will operate over the regular route along Clark to Van Buren then will travel via Van Buren, Wells, Congress to Clark and then resume the regular route. Northbound #22 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 

Ongoing Bus Reroutes

#75 74th/75th Bus Stop Changes

Due to sewer construction work, the eastbound and westbound bus stops at 75th Street/Indiana served by #75 74th/75th buses temporarily have been removed from service until further notice.
 
Eastbound customers can board and exit #75 buses from the near side stops at 75th Street/Prairie or 75th Street/Michigan.
 
Westbound customers can board and exit #75 buses from the near side stops at 75th Street/Michigan or 75th Street/Prairie.
 

Temporary Change in Routing for #60 Blue Island/26th Buses

Currently in effect until 5 p.m. Friday, October 16, eastbound #60 Blue Island/26th buses will travel to Randolph/Field, instead of Randolph/Harbor, before turning to begin westbound service. This change in routing is due to reconstruction of a nearby driveway. Westbound #60 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 

Westbound Lanes of Division Street Bridge Closed for Repairs

The westbound lanes of the Division Street Bridge over the north branch of the Chicago River, between Halsted and Hooker, are closed to all traffic until 5 p.m. Friday, October 16, due to repair work.
 
Westbound #70 Division buses will operate over the regular route along Division to Larrabee then will travel via Larrabee, Chicago, Milwaukee, Elston to Division and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 
Southbound #132 Goose Island Express buses will travel over the regular route along Halsted past Division to North Branch Street then will operate via North Branch, Cherry to Division and then resume the regular route. Northbound #132 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 

Phase III of 75th Street Sewer Project Detours #75 74th/75th Buses

Currently in effect until 5 p.m. Monday, October 19, 75th Street between King Drive and Eberhart is closed to all traffic due to sewer construction work.
 
Eastbound #75 74th/75th buses will operate over the regular route along 75th Street to King Drive then will travel via King Drive, 76th Street, St. Lawrence to 75th Street and then resume the regular route.
 
Westbound #75 buses will travel over the regular route along 75th Street to Lawrence then will operate via Lawrence, 73rd Street, King Drive to 75th Street and then resume the regular route.
 

Bridge Reconstruction Work Detours Westbound #96 Lunt Buses

Currently in effect until 6 a.m. Monday, October 26, Touhy Avenue is closed between Kedzie and McCormick due to bridge reconstruction work. 
 
Westbound #96 Lunt buses will travel over the regular route along Touhy to Kedzie then will operate via Kedzie, Howard to McCormick and then will resume the regular route south of Touhy. Eastbound #96 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 

Buses Rerouted on Saturdays for the Near North Farmer’s Market

From 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Saturday through October 31, Division Street between State and Clark is closed for the Near North Farmer’s Market.
 
Southbound #36 Broadway buses will travel over the regular route along Clark past Division to Maple then will operate via Maple to State and then resume the regular route.
 
Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along State to Elm then will travel via Elm to Clark and then resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #70 Division buses will travel over the regular route along Division to Clark and then will operate via Clark, Maple to Dearborn and then resume the regular route. Westbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route. 
 

Buses Rerouted Due to Construction on Milwaukee Avenue

Eastbound #81W West Lawrence and northbound #91 Austin buses are being rerouted until Monday, November 30, due to construction on Milwaukee Avenue between Gale and Montrose.
 
Eastbound #81W West Lawrence and northbound #91 Austin buses will travel over their regular routes to Lawrence/Milwaukee to a far side stop then will continue eastbound on Lawrence to Lipps, heading north on Lipps to enter the Jefferson Park bus terminal.
 
Westbound #81W and southbound #91 buses are not affected and will travel along their regular routes.
 

Temporary Relocation of Bus Stop at Lake Park/50th Street

Currently in effect until Tuesday, December 1, the northbound mid-block stop on Lake Park Avenue near 50th Street temporarily has been relocated approximately 100 feet north due to nearby construction work. This stop is served by #2 Hyde Park Express, #6 Jackson Park Express, #28 Stony Island and #X28 Stony Island Express buses.
 

Northbound #24 Wentworth Buses Detoured Due to LaSalle Street Bridge Work

LaSalle Street between 28th and 26th streets is closed to all traffic until early-January 2010, due to the reconstruction of the LaSalle Street Bridge. Northbound #24 Wentworth buses will operate over the regular route along LaSalle to 31st Street then will travel via 31st Street, State, 26th Street to Wentworth and then resume the regular route. Southbound #24 buses will travel over the regular route.
 
Changes to #24 Wentworth Bus Stops
Due to the reconstruction of the LaSalle Street Bridge, the following changes have been made to bus stops served by #24 Wentworth buses:
 
  • LaSalle/31st Street: the northbound far side stop has been relocated to a near side stop.
  • Wentworth/26th Street: the northbound near side stop has been relocated to a westbound near side stop at 26th Street/Wentworth.
 

Lane Restrictions near State and Grand Detour #29 State and #65 Grand Buses

Due to lane restrictions associated with the Grand/State Red Line rehabilitation project at the northwest corner of State Street and Grand Avenue, #29 State and #36 Broadway buses are being detoured to adjacent streets. These changes in service are expected to remain in place until April 2010.
 
Southbound #29 State buses will operate over the regular route along Grand past State to Clark then will travel via Clark, Illinois to State and then resume the regular route.
 
Northbound #29 buses will be able to travel on the remaining open lane along State and will operate over its regular route.
 
Southbound #36 Broadway buses will travel over the regular route along State to Ontario then will operate via Ontario, Clark, Illinois to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along Dearborn past Illinois to Ohio then will travel via Ohio to State and then resume the regular route.
 

14 CTA Bus Routes Affected Due to Jackson Viaduct Work

Due to the reconstruction of the Jackson Boulevard viaduct between Canal and Wacker, changes in service along 14 CTA bus routes are expected to remain in place until April 2010. The following CTA bus routes are being rerouted to adjacent streets:

Temporary Removal of #66 Chicago Bus Stop

Currently in effect, the eastbound near side stop at Chicago/Clark served by #66 Chicago buses has been temporarily removed from service until Friday, April 30, 2010, due to construction.
