Events Affecting CTA Service Beginning the Weekend of October 8-10

Blue Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Single Track Operation in Effect at the Pulaski and Cicero Stations Sunday Night

A single track operation will be in effect for all late night Blue Line trains serving the Pulaski and Cicero stations from 10 p.m. Sunday, October 10 until 4 a.m. the following morning, due to track maintenance.
 
Blue Line customers at the Pulaski and Cicero stations traveling westbound (to Forest Park) must board and exit trains from the eastbound (to O’Hare) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Late Night Trains to Operate on the Same Tracks at Kedzie-Homan Next Week

All Blue Line trains will be routed to operate on the westbound (to Forest Park) tracks at the Kedzie-Homan station from 10 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Monday night, October 11 through Thursday morning, October 14, due to track maintenance work.
 
Blue Line customers at the Kedzie-Homan station traveling eastbound (to O’Hare) must board and exit trains from the westbound (to Forest Park) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Red Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Late Night Trains to Operate on the Same Tracks at the 47th Street Station Next Week

All late night Red Line trains will be routed to operate on the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) tracks at the 47th Street station from 11 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Sunday, October 10 through Friday morning, October 15, as track maintenance work continues.
 
 
Red Line customers at the 47th Street station traveling northbound (to Howard) must board and exit trains from the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Service for Upcoming Events

CTA Provides Service to the Bank of America Chicago Marathon

Participants and spectators heading to the 2010 Bank of America Chicago Marathon are encouraged to use the convenient service provided by CTA. The marathon begins at 7:30 a.m. Sunday, October 10, starting just north of Jackson on Columbus Drive with the course winding through numerous city neighborhoods. 
 
To decrease travel time and reduce lines, customers heading to the marathon are encouraged to buy CTA farecards or Visitor Passes in advance with sufficient value for their return trips later in the day. 
 
CTA personnel will be on duty at select stations along the Blue, Red, Green, Brown, Pink and Orange lines and at major bus stops to assist customers and to provide travel information. 
 
CTA will operate longer trains to accommodate expected crowds. Because bus routes in the vicinity of the marathon also will be impacted with intermittent reroutes or delays due to lane closures, CTA recommends customers allow extra travel time.

Set-Up and Clean-Up of Chicago Marathon Detours Six CTA Bus Routes

Columbus Drive between Roosevelt and Congress and Balbo Drive between Michigan and Lake Shore Drive will be closed from 10 a.m. Friday, October 8 until 6 a.m. Monday, October 11, due to the set-up and clean-up of the Bank of America Chicago Marathon.
 
As a result, the #2 Hyde Park, #6 Jackson Park Express, #10 Museum of Science & Industry, #14 Jeffery Express, #26 South Shore Express and #X28 Stony Island Express buses will be rerouted to adjacent streets to maintain service.
 
Northbound #2 and #10 buses will travel over their regular routes along Lake Shore Drive to Columbus then will operate via Columbus, Roosevelt, Michigan to Balbo and then resume their regular routes west on Balbo. Southbound #2 and #10 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Northbound #6, #14, #26 and #X28 buses will operate over their regular routes along Lake Shore Drive to Columbus then will travel via Columbus, Roosevelt to Michigan then resume their regular routes north on Michigan. Southbound #6, #14, #26 and #X28 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Longer Purple Line Trains for Northwestern Wildcats Football on Saturday

The Northwestern Wildcats host the Purdue University Boilermakers at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, October 9. Longer Purple Line trains will begin operating at approximately 5 p.m. and continue after the game as crowds warrant. Ryan Field is just west of the Purple Line’s Central station in Evanston.
 

CTA Service to Upcoming Games at the United Center

CTA will operate its #19 United Center Express for those attending the following games at the United Center this weekend and next week:
 
  • Friday, October 8 at 7 p.m. – Washington Wizards versus Bulls (pre-season)
  • Saturday, October 9 at 7:30 p.m. – Detroit Red Wings versus Blackhawks*
  • Tuesday, October 12 at 7 p.m. – Toronto Raptors versus Bulls (pre-season)
  • Wednesday, October 13 at 7:30 p.m. – Nashville Predators versus Blackhawks
  • Friday, October 15 at 7 p.m. – Dallas Mavericks versus Bulls (pre-season)
 
*NOTE: buses are detoured prior to the Saturday game. See details below
 
Buses will leave every 12-15 minutes from Michigan and Randolph beginning 90 minutes before the start of each game. When the game ends, #19 buses will depart the United Center approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.
 
#19 buses make all stops on Madison from Wabash to Clinton. From Clinton, #19 buses run express to the United Center.
 
After each game, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3. On the return trip, #19 buses will operate east on Washington to Wacker, then head south to Monroe and east to Michigan, making all stops from Jefferson to Michigan before turning north on Michigan and making the final stop at Randolph.
 

Blackhawks Red Carpet Celebration Event Detours #19 United Center Express and #20 Madison Buses

From 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. Saturday, October 9, #19 United Center Express (westbound only) and #20 Madison buses will be detoured due to the closure of Madison Street between Damen and Wood for the Blackhawks Red Carpet Celebration event.
 
Westbound #19 buses will travel over the regular route along Damen to Warren where they will make a service stop before beginning eastbound service. Eastbound #19 buses will continue along Warren to Wood where they will make a service stop for all remaining customers to exit. From Warren/Wood, eastbound #19 buses will travel over the regular route.
 
Eastbound #20 Madison buses will operate over the regular route along Madison to Damen then will travel via Damen, Warren, Ashland to Madison and then resume the regular route.
 
Westbound #20 buses will travel over the regular route along Madison to Ashland then will operate via Ashland, Washington, Damen to Madison and then resume the regular route.
 

Service to U.S. versus Poland Men’s Soccer Match at Solder Field

The U.S. versus Poland men’s soccer match will be held at Soldier Field on Saturday, October 9. Gates open at 5 p.m. for the 7 p.m. match. In anticipation of large crowds, CTA will operate longer trains on the Orange Line from Midway beginning at approximately 2:30 p.m. until approximately 10:15 p.m. and on the Blue Line from 2:30 p.m. until 10:30 p.m.
 
In addition, articulated buses will be available to accommodate additional customers on the #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express which serves Museum Campus adjacent to the stadium.
 

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

UPDATE: Temporary Relocation of Bus Stop at Morse/Glenwood

Currently in effect until Friday, October 15, the far side bus stop at Morse/Glenwood served by eastbound #96 Lunt and #155 Devon buses has been temporarily relocated to a near side stop at Morse/Lakewood, due to sidewalk construction.
 

UPDATE: Westbound #96 Lunt Buses Temporarily Rerouted

Currently in effect until Friday, October 15, westbound #96 Lunt buses are being temporarily rerouted due to emergency street repair work on Lunt Avenue between Sheridan and Glenwood.
 
Westbound #96 buses are operating over the regular route along Sheridan past Lunt to Greenleaf then are operating via Greenleaf, Ashland to Lunt and then resuming the regular route. Eastbound #96 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 

UPDATE: Sheridan Road Rehabilitation Project Detours #201 Central/Ridge Buses

Currently in effect until Friday, October 15, #201 Central/Ridge buses are being detoured due to the temporary closure of Sheridan Road between Emerson and Chicago Avenue for the Sheridan Road Rehabilitation project.
 
Northbound #201 buses are traveling over the regular route along Chicago to Clark then are operating via Clark, Elgin Road, Sherman, Foster to Sheridan and then resuming the regular route. Southbound #201 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Temporary Changes in Service Along the #77 Belmont and #82 Kimball/Homan Routes

Currently in effect until approximately 7 a.m. Monday, October 11, the following changes in service are in effect for the #77 Belmont and #82 Kimball/Homan buses due to the installation of bus pads on Kimball Avenue between Belmont and the Belmont/Kimball Blue Line bus terminal.
 
#77 Belmont
  • Belmont/Kimball Blue Line Terminal: westbound #77 buses are unable to enter the bus terminal at the Belmont/Kimball Blue Line station, but are making service stops at the temporary far side bus stop on Belmont at Kimball.
 
#82 Kimball/Homan
  • Kimball/Belmont: the northbound near side stop served by #82 buses has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop.
 

Temporary Bus Stop Change for Eastbound #77 Belmont Buses

Beginning at approximately 7 a.m. Tuesday, October 12 until 4 p.m. Friday, October 15, the eastbound far side stop at Belmont/Kimball served by #77 Belmont buses will be relocated to a near side stop. This stop is being temporarily relocated due to work associated with the installation of bus pads along Kimball Avenue.
 

Five CTA Bus Routes Detoured for Columbus Day Parade in Grant Park

From 6 a.m. until 3 p.m. Monday, October 11, Columbus Drive between Roosevelt and Monroe, and Balbo Drive between Michigan and Lake Shore Drive will be closed to all traffic for the Columbus Day Parade. The parade will step off at 12:30 p.m. and proceed north on Columbus to Monroe.
 
Northbound #2 Hyde Park Express buses will travel over the regular route along Columbus to Roosevelt then will operate via Roosevelt, Michigan to Balbo and then resume the regular route west along Balbo. Southbound #2 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Northbound #6 Jackson Park Express, #14 Jeffery Express, #26 South Shore Express and #X28 Stony Island Express buses will operate over their regular routes along Columbus to Roosevelt then will operate via Roosevelt to Michigan and then will resume their regular routes north of Balbo. Southbound #6 buses will travel over the regular route along Balbo to Michigan then will operate via Michigan, Roosevelt to Columbus and then will resume the regular route.
 

Sewer Installation Project Detours Northbound #53 Pulaski Buses Next Week

From 9 a.m. Tuesday, October 12 until 3 p.m. Friday, October 15, northbound #53 Pulaski buses will be rerouted due to the closure of Pulaski Avenue between 18th and 19th streets for a sewer installation project.
 
Northbound #53 buses will travel over the regular route along Pulaski to Ogden then will operate via Ogden, Central Park, 16th Street to Pulaski and then resume the regular route. Southbound #53 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 

Ongoing Bus Reroutes

#52A South Kedzie Buses Detoured at Kedzie/67th Street

Currently in effect until further notice, #52A South Kedzie buses are being detoured due to weight restrictions on the Kedzie Avenue Bridge at 67th Street.
 
Southbound #52A buses are traveling over the regular route along Kedzie to 67th Street then are operating via 67th Street, California, 71st Street to Kedzie and then resuming the regular route. Northbound #52A buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Temporary Removal of Bus Stops Near the Wilson Red Line Station

Currently in effect until 5 a.m. Friday, October 22, the eastbound far side bus stop at Wilson/Racine has been temporarily removed from service due to a sidewalk replacement project. The temporary removal of this bus stop affects customers who board and alight eastbound #78 Montrose and southbound #145 Wilson/Michigan Express and #148 Clarendon/Michigan Express buses. 
 

Temporary Bus Stop Relocation for #74 Fullerton Buses

Currently in effect until Friday, October 29, the far side stop at Fullerton/Milwaukee has temporarily been relocated to a near side stop due to construction. This stop is served by #74 Fullerton buses.
 

Temporary Reroute in Effect for #78 Montrose Buses Due to Work at Clark/Wilson

Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Friday, October 29, #78 Montrose buses are temporarily unable to make turns at the intersection of Clark/Wilson due to a streetscape project.
 
Eastbound #78 Montrose buses are operating over the regular route along Montrose to Ashland then are traveling via Ashland, Wilson past Clark and then resuming the regular route east on Wilson. Westbound #78 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Buses Rerouted on Saturdays for the Near North Farmer’s Market

From 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Saturday through October 30, Division Street between State and Clark will be closed for the Near North Farmer’s Market, resulting in a detour of the #36 Broadway and #70 Division bus routes.
 
Southbound #36 buses will travel over the regular route along Clark past Division to Maple then will operate via Maple to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along State to Elm then will travel via Elm to Clark and then resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #70 buses will travel over the regular route along Division to Clark and then will operate via Clark, Maple to Dearborn and then resume the regular route. Westbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route. 
 

#111 Pullman/111th/115th Buses Undergo Reroutes Due to Bridge Repair Work

Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Sunday, October 31, the 111th Street Bridge over Interstate 57 (I-57) is closed to all traffic due to bridge and deck replacement work, resulting in a detour of the #111 Pullman/111th/115th bus route.
 
Southbound #111 buses are operating over the regular route along 111th Street to Marshfield then traveling via Marshfield, 112th Place, Hamlet to 111th Street and then resuming the regular route east on 111th Street.
 
Northbound #111 buses are traveling over the regular route along 111th Street to Throop then operating via Throop, 107th Street, Vincennes and then resuming the regular route south on Vincennes past 111th Street.
 

Change to Bus Stop along #156 LaSalle Bus Route

A traffic lane reduction is in effect at LaSalle/Kinzie due to a Commonwealth Edison project. As a result, the northbound far side stop served by #156 LaSalle buses has been temporarily removed from service until Friday, November 12.
 

#94 South California Buses Detoured Due to a Viaduct Construction Project

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, December 31, #94 South California buses are being detoured due to the temporary closure of California Avenue between Taylor and Fillmore for construction work on a nearby viaduct.
 
Northbound #94 buses are traveling over the regular route along California to Roosevelt then are operating via Roosevelt, Sacramento, Harrison to California and resuming the regular route. Southbound #94 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Temporary Changes in Service for #21 Cermak and #62 Archer Buses Serving the Cermak-Chinatown Station

Currently in effect, customers at the Cermak-Chinatown Red Line station must use the new entrance located on Archer Avenue approximately one block north of Cermak. This entrance will serve as the primary access point for customers while the main entrance to the station on the north side of Cermak is reconstructed and made accessible. 
 
As a result of these changes, and to accommodate customers transferring between bus and rail services, the following changes have been made to buses serving the station:
 
#21 Cermak
Eastbound #21 Cermak buses are traveling over the regular route along Cermak to Wentworth then operating via Wentworth, Archer, Clark to Cermak and resuming the regular route. Westbound #21 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 
  • Cermak/Wentworth: the near side stop at Cermak/Wentworth served by eastbound #21 buses has been temporarily removed from service.
  • Wentworth/Cermak: new temporary stops have been added at Wentworth/Cermak for eastbound and westbound #21 buses. Eastbound customers must board and exit buses from the far side stop; westbound customers must board and exit buses from the near side stop.
  • Cermak/Red Line Station: the mid-block stop near the Cermak Road entrance of the Cermak-Chinatown station has been temporarily removed from service.
  • Archer/Red Line Station: eastbound #21 buses are serving the new temporary mid-block stop near the Archer Avenue entrance of the Cermak-Chinatown station.
  • Wentworth/Archer: westbound #21 buses are serving the new temporary far side stop at Wentworth/Archer.
 
#62 Archer
  • Archer/Wentworth: the northbound near side stop at Archer/Wentworth served by #62 buses has been removed from service.
  • Archer/Red Line Station: northbound #62 buses are serving the new mid-block stop near the Archer Avenue entrance of the Cermak-Chinatown station.
 

#56 Milwaukee Bus Stop at Milwaukee/Diversey Temporarily Relocated

Until further notice, the southbound near side bus stop at Milwaukee/Diversey served by #56 Milwaukee buses has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop.
 

Lane Restrictions near State and Grand Detour #29 State and #36 Broadway Buses

Due to lane restrictions associated with the Grand/State Red Line rehabilitation project at the northwest corner of State Street and Grand Avenue, #29 State and #36 Broadway buses are being detoured to adjacent streets until further notice.
 
Southbound #29 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand past State to Clark then traveling via Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route.
 
Northbound #29 buses are traveling along the remaining open lane along State and over the regular route.
 
Southbound #36 buses are traveling over the regular route along State to Ontario then operating via Ontario, Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #36 buses are operating over the regular route along Dearborn past Illinois to Ohio then traveling via Ohio to State and resuming the regular route.
 

Temporary Changes to Bus Stops near Sheridan/Foster

Currently in effect until further notice, the northbound near side stop at Sheridan/Foster has been temporarily removed from service due to the demolition and reconstruction of a nearby building. This stop is served by #136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express, #147 Outer Drive Express and #151 Sheridan buses.
 

Temporary Removal of #126 Jackson Bus Stop at Jackson/Sangamon

Currently in effect until Friday, September 30, 2011, the eastbound far side stop at Jackson/Sangamon served by #126 Jackson buses has been temporarily removed from service due to nearby construction. Customers may board and exit eastbound #126 buses at either Jackson/Morgan or Jackson/Peoria.
 

Service Adjustments Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project

Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project, Franklin Street between Harrison and Van Buren and Lower Wacker Drive between Randolph and Harrison are closed until May 2012. As a result of these closures and other street reconfigurations, the following changes in bus service currently are in effect:
 
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
Northbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses are traveling over the regular route along Harrison to Canal then are operating via Canal, Jackson to Franklin and resuming the regular route. Southbound #11 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes also have been made to bus stops served by northbound #11 buses:
 
  • Canal/Harrison: a far side stop has been added to service.
  • Canal/Jackson: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Jackson at the Chicago River: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • 404 W. Harrison: the mid-block stop has been removed from service.
  • Franklin/Van Buren: the far side stop has been removed from service.
 
#121 Union/Wacker Express
Northbound #121 Union/Wacker Express buses are operating over the regular route along Jackson past Wacker to Franklin then are traveling via Franklin, Lake, Post Place to Lower Wacker and then resuming the regular route.
 
Southbound #121 buses are operating over the regular route along Lower Wacker to the exit ramp for Upper Wacker and then traveling via Upper Wacker to Adams and resuming the regular route west on Adams.
 
#135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express buses are traveling south on Wacker to Jackson then are traveling east on Jackson past Franklin and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #135 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #136 Sheridan/LaSalle buses are operating south on Wacker to Van Buren then are traveling via Van Buren, Canal to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #136 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#156 LaSalle (PM Service Only)
During the evening rush period only, northbound #156 LaSalle buses departing from Union Station are traveling west on Van Buren to Wacker then are operating via Wacker to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary bus stop change has been made and is in effect for northbound #156 buses during the evening rush period only: 
 
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
