Events Affecting CTA Service Beginning the Weekend of October 30 – November 1

NOTE: Daylight-saving time ends on Sunday, November 1, and clocks are to be set back one hour. Customers who use unlimited ride passes are reminded that passes are active for 24-hour periods. For example, someone who activates a 1-day pass at 8 a.m. Saturday will normally be able to use the pass until 8 a.m. Sunday. But this weekend, due to the extra hour added on Saturday night the pass would expire at 7 a.m. Sunday.  

 

Blue Line – Slow Zone Work

Construction Work in Dearborn Subway Resumes this Weekend

Rail service between the Blue Line’s Clark/Lake and UIC-Halsted stations temporarily will be suspended from 10 p.m. Friday, October 30 until 4 a.m. Monday, November 2, as crews work to replace track in the south end of the Dearborn subway.
 
Bus shuttles will operate as a substitute for rail service making stops adjacent to the Clark/Lake, Washington, Monroe, Jackson, LaSalle, Clinton and UIC-Halsted stations. Southbound buses will travel along Clark and Van Buren and northbound buses will operate via Harrison and Dearborn.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

Two-Phase Single Track in Effect on Forest Park Branch Tuesday Night

A two-phase late night single track will be in effect for westbound Blue Line trains between the Cicero and Harlem stations on the Forest Park branch beginning at 9 p.m. Tuesday, November 3.
 
Phase I – Austin to Harlem
From 9 p.m. Tuesday, November 3 until 1 a.m. the following morning, westbound Blue Line customers at the Oak Park station must board and exit trains from the eastbound side of the platform.
 
Phase II – Cicero to Harlem
From 1 a.m. until 4 a.m. Wednesday, November 4, westbound Blue Line customers at the Austin and Oak Park stations must board and exit trains from the eastbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Trains Undergo Late Night Single Track Next Week at the Harlem Station

A late night single track will be in effect for westbound Blue Line trains at the Harlem station on the Forest Park branch from 9 p.m. Wednesday, November 4 until 4 a.m. the following morning and then again from 9 p.m. Thursday, November 5 until 4 a.m. the following morning.
 
During these times, westbound Blue Line customers at the Harlem station must board and exit trains from the eastbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Blue Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Northbound Trains Undergo Late Night Single Track between LaSalle and Grand

A late night single track will be in effect for northbound Blue Line trains operating between the LaSalle and Grand stations in the Dearborn subway from 11 p.m. Monday, November 2 until 4 a.m. the following morning, due to the removal of the old escalator at the Monroe station.
 
Northbound Blue Line customers at the Jackson, Monroe, Washington and Clark/Lake stations must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Red Line – Slow Zone Work

Northbound Red Line Trains Temporarily Unable to Stop at Morse and Jarvis This Weekend

Northbound Red Line trains temporarily will be unable to stop at the Morse and Jarvis stations from 10 p.m. Friday, October 30 until 6 p.m. Sunday, November 1, due to track maintenance work. Southbound Red Line service is not affected.
 
During this time, northbound Red Line customers who want to exit at Morse or Jarvis should travel to Howard and board a southbound train to the appropriate station. Customers at Morse or Jarvis who want to travel north should board a southbound train to Loyola to access a northbound train.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
 

Trains Rerouted at the Sheridan Station Next Week

Work to reduce slow zones near the Sheridan Red Line station continues next week resulting in a reroute of northbound and southbound trains from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. each day beginning Tuesday, November 3 through Friday, November 6.
 
During these times, northbound and southbound Red Line trains will operate on the Purple Express tracks. Customers at the Sheridan station must board and exit trains from the outer platforms instead of the inner platforms.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
 

Red/Brown Lines – Other Events Affecting Service

Friday Night Reroute of Northbound Trains at the Belmont Station

Northbound trains will be rerouted to the southbound Red Line tracks at the Belmont station from 9 p.m. Friday, October 30 until 5:30 a.m. the following morning, due to work on the platform canopy.
 
Northbound Red and Brown line customers at the Belmont station must board and exit trains from the southbound Red Line side of the platform. Southbound Red Line customers at Belmont must board and exit trains from the southbound Brown Line side of the platform.
 
During this time, northbound Brown Line trains will be unable to stop at Diversey and Wellington. Northbound Brown Line customers who want to exit at Diversey or Wellington should ride to Belmont and transfer to a southbound train to their respective station. Customers at Diversey and Wellington who want to travel north should take a southbound train to Fullerton and transfer to a northbound train.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the route and direction of each train.
 

Daytime Reroute of Southbound Trains at Belmont and Fullerton This Weekend

A reroute will be in effect for southbound Red and Brown line trains at the Belmont and Fullerton stations this weekend due to work on the platform canopies. Southbound Red and Brown line trains temporarily will be rerouted to operate on the northbound tracks from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 31 and then again during the same hours on Sunday, November 1.  
 
Southbound Red and Brown line customers at the Belmont and Fullerton stations must board and exit trains from the northbound Red Line side of the platform. Northbound Red Line customers at these stations must board and exit trains from the northbound Brown Line side of the platform.
 
During these times, northbound Red and Brown line trains will make stops at Diversey and Wellington; however, southbound Brown Line trains will not stop at either station.
 
Southbound Brown Line customers who want to exit at Wellington or Diversey should ride to Fullerton and transfer to a northbound train to their respective station. Customers at Wellington and Diversey who want to travel south should take a northbound train to Belmont and transfer to a southbound train.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the route and direction of each train.
 

Late Night Reroute of Northbound Trains at Belmont on Monday and Tuesday

Work on the platform canopies continues next week at the Belmont station resulting in the temporary reroute of northbound Red and Brown line trains. Trains will operate on the southbound tracks from 9 p.m. Monday, November 2 until 4 a.m. the following morning and then again from 9 p.m. Tuesday, November 3 until 4 a.m. the following morning.
 
Northbound Red and Brown line customers at the Belmont station must board and exit trains from the southbound Red Line side of the platform. Southbound Red Line customers at Belmont must board and exit trains from the southbound Brown Line side of the platform.
 
During these times, northbound Brown Line trains will be unable to stop at Diversey and Wellington. Northbound Brown Line customers who want to exit at Diversey or Wellington should ride to Belmont and transfer to a southbound train to their respective station. Northbound Red and Brown line customers at the Fullerton and Belmont stations must board and exit trains from the southbound Red Line side of the platform. Southbound Red Line customers at the Fullerton and Belmont stations must board and exit trains from the southbound Brown Line side of the platform.
 
During these times, northbound Brown Line trains will be unable to stop at Diversey and Wellington. Northbound Brown Line customers who want to exit at Diversey or Wellington should ride to Belmont and transfer to a southbound train to their respective station. Customers at Diversey and Wellington who want to travel north should take a southbound train to Fullerton and transfer to a northbound train.

Additional Service for Special Events

#19 United Center Express Serves Upcoming Events

CTA will operate its #19 United Center Express buses for the following events at the United Center:
 
  • Friday, October 30 at 7:30 p.m. – Montreal Canadiens versus Blackhawks
  • Tuesday, November 3 at 7 p.m. – Milwaukee Bucks versus Bulls
 
Buses will leave every 10 minutes from Michigan and Randolph beginning 90 minutes before the start of each event until the event begins.  When the event ends, #19 buses will depart the United Center approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.
 
#19 buses no longer make stops along Michigan Avenue north of Randolph, but continue to make all stops on Madison from Wabash to Clinton.  From Clinton, #19 buses run express to the United Center.
 
After each game, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3.  On the return trip, #19 buses will operate east on Washington to Wacker, then head south to Monroe and east to Michigan, making all stops from Jefferson to Michigan before turning north on Michigan and making the final stop at Randolph.
 

Longer Purple Line Trains for Northwestern Wildcats Football on Saturday

The Northwestern Wildcats host the Penn State University Nittany Lions at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, October 31. Longer Purple Line trains will begin operating from approximately 2 p.m. and continue after the game as crowds warrant. Ryan Field is just west of the Purple Line’s Central station in Evanston.
 

CTA Provides Service for Bears Game

The #128 Soldier Field Express and #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express are convenient travel options for fans heading to the Bears game on Sunday, November 1 versus the Cleveland Browns. Kickoff is at noon.
 
The #128 Soldier Field Express operates non-stop between the Ogilvie Transportation Center, Union Station and Soldier Field. Service will begin at approximately 9:30 a.m. After the game, buses will leave Soldier Field every few minutes for approximately one hour.
 
The fare for #128 buses is $1 for full-fare customers. The exact cash fare is required to receive the special rate.
 
In addition, Red, Orange and Green line trains serve customers traveling to and from Soldier Field via the Roosevelt station a few blocks west of the stadium.
 
Buses Rerouted
In anticipation of heavy traffic along Roosevelt and Lake Shore Drive due to the football game at Soldier Field, four CTA bus routes will be detoured from 10:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 1.
 
Southbound #6 Jackson Park Express and #10 Museum of Science & Industry buses will travel over their regular routes along Balbo to Michigan then will operate via Michigan, Cermak, King Drive, 31st Street to Lake Shore Drive and then resume their regular routes. Northbound #6 and #10 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Southbound #14 Jeffery Express buses will operate over the regular route along Michigan past Balbo to Cermak then will operate via Cermak, King Drive, 31st Street to Lake Shore Drive and then resume the regular route. Northbound #14 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Southbound #146 buses will travel over the regular route along Columbus to Lake Shore Drive then will operate via Lake Shore Drive, 18th Street to Museum Campus Drive and then resume the regular route.
 
Northbound #146 buses will travel over the regular route along Museum Campus Drive to Waldron then will operate via Waldron, Lake Shore Drive to Columbus and then resume the regular route.
 

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

UPDATE: Closure of Westbound Lanes of Division Street Bridge Extended

The westbound lanes of the Division Street Bridge over the north branch of the Chicago River, between Halsted and Hooker, will continue to be closed to all traffic until 5 p.m. Friday, November 6, due to repair work.
 
Westbound #70 Division buses will operate over the regular route along Division to Larrabee then will travel via Larrabee, Chicago, Milwaukee, Elston to Division and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 
Southbound #132 Goose Island Express buses will travel over the regular route along Halsted past Division to North Branch Street then will operate via North Branch, Cherry to Division and then resume the regular route. Northbound #132 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 

Southbound #36 Broadway and #145 Wilson/Michigan Express Buses Detoured at Van Buren/Wells

Currently in effect until 10 p.m. Sunday, January 31, 2010, southbound #36 Broadway and #145 Wilson/Michigan Express buses are being rerouted from the area of Van Buren/Wells due to work associated with the Wacker Drive Reconstruction project.
 
Southbound #36 and #145 buses will travel over their regular routes along Van Buren Street to Clark then will operate via Clark, Congress to Wells and then resume their regular routes. Northbound #36 and #145 buses are not affected and will travel over their regular routes.
 

Road Work at Maple/Church Detours Northbound #93 California/Dodge Buses

Currently in effect until Sunday, November 22, northbound #93 California/Dodge buses are being rerouted from the area of Maple/Church due to a road construction project.
 
Northbound #93 buses will operate over the regular route along Emerson Street to Maple then will travel via Maple, Clark to Benson and then resume the regular route. Southbound #93 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 

Temporary Relocation of #93 California/Dodge Bus Stop

Currently in effect until Thursday, May 27, 2010, the southbound curb-side lane of California Avenue at Granville will be closed to all traffic due to construction. As a result of this lane closure, the southbound near side stop at California/Granville served by #93 California/Dodge buses temporarily will be relocated approximately 175 feet north.
 

Race of the Dead (Carrera de los Muertos) Detours Four Bus Routes on Saturday

On Saturday, October 31 from 7:30 a.m. until 10 a.m., four CTA bus routes will be detoured to adjacent streets to maintain service due to the annual Race of the Dead (Carrera de los Muertos).
 
The race will step-off at 8 a.m. from 16th Street/Paulina and then proceed via 16th Street, Laflin, 18th Street, Morgan,  16th Street, Union, Maxwell, UIC Flames Field Pathway, 14th Place, Morgan to 16th Street and return to the finish line at 16th Street/Paulina.
 
Northbound #8 Halsted buses will travel over the regular route along Halsted Street to 18th Street then will operate via 18th Street, Canal, Roosevelt to Halsted and then resume the regular route. Southbound #8 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Northbound #9 Ashland buses will operate over the regular route along Ashland Avenue to 18th Street then will travel via 18th Street, Damen, Roosevelt to Ashland and then resume the regular route. Southbound #9 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Eastbound #18 16th/18th buses will travel over the regular route along 18th Street to Damen then will operate via Damen to Roosevelt and then resume the regular route east of Halsted. Westbound #18 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Eastbound #60 Blue Island/26th buses will operate over the regular route along Blue Island Avenue to Ashland then will travel via Ashland, 18th Street, Damen, Roosevelt to Racine and then resume the regular route. Westbound #60 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

North Halsted Halloween Parade Detours #8 Halsted Buses Saturday Night

Halsted Street between Belmont and Addison will be closed to all traffic from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m. Saturday, October 31, due to the North Halsted Halloween parade.
 
Northbound #8 Halsted buses will travel over the regular route along Halsted to Clark then will operate via Clark, Sheffield, Addison to Halsted and then resume the regular route. Southbound #8 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Construction Work at the Fullerton Station Detours #74 Fullerton Buses

Due to work associated with the Brown Line capacity expansion project, Fullerton Avenue at the Red/Brown Line station will be closed to all traffic from 1 a.m. until 5 a.m. Monday, November 2.
 
Eastbound #74 Fullerton buses will travel over the regular route along Fullerton to Sheffield where they will make a near side service stop. From Fullerton/Sheffield eastbound #74 buses will travel south on Sheffield to Webster and then operate via Webster, Lincoln, Sheffield to Fullerton.
 
Westbound service along the #74 route will begin at Fullerton/Sheffield and buses will continue west on Fullerton over the regular route.
 

Railroad Work Detours #X54 Cicero Express and #54B South Cicero Buses

From 6 a.m. Monday, November 2 until noon Sunday, November 8, the 4000 block of S. Cicero Avenue will be closed to all traffic due to a Canadian National-Grand Trunk Railroad track renewal project.
 
Southbound #X54 Cicero Express and  #54B South Cicero buses will operate over their regular routes along Cicero to 39th Street (Pershing Road) then will travel via 39th Street, Central, 47th Street to Cicero and then resume their regular routes. Northbound #X54 and #54B buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Changes to Bus Stops Effective Tuesday, November 3

Effective at the start of service on Tuesday, November 3, the following changes will be made to bus stops along the #68 Northwest Highway, #86 Narragansett/Ridgeland and #152 Addison bus routes:
 
#68 Northwest Highway
The southbound near side stop at Northwest Highway/Nagle will be reinstated.
 
#86 Narragansett/Ridgeland
  • Narragansett/Belmont: the southbound near side stop will be relocated to a far side stop.
  • Narragansett/Fullerton: the southbound near side stop will be relocated to a far side stop.
  • Narragansett/Grand: the southbound near side stop will be relocated to a far side stop.
 
#152 Addison
  • Addison/Narragansett: the westbound near side stop will be relocated to a far side stop.
  • Addison/Natchez: the westbound and eastbound near side stops will be removed from service.
  • Addison/Natoma: the westbound and eastbound near side stops will be removed from service.
  • Addison/Harlem: the westbound and eastbound near side stops will be relocated to far side stops.
  • Addison/Neva: the eastbound near side stop will be removed from service.
 

Ongoing Bus Reroutes

Buses Rerouted on Saturday for the Near North Farmer’s Market

From 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, October 31, Division Street between State and Clark will be closed for the Near North Farmer’s Market.
 
Southbound #36 Broadway buses will travel over the regular route along Clark past Division to Maple then will operate via Maple to State and then resume the regular route.
 
Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along State to Elm then will travel via Elm to Clark and then resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #70 Division buses will travel over the regular route along Division to Clark and then will operate via Clark, Maple to Dearborn and then resume the regular route. Westbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route. 
 

Temporary Reroute of Four Bus Routes Due to Street Work at Michigan/Balbo

Currently in effect until 6 a.m. Sunday, November 1, northbound #6 Jackson Park Express, #14 Jeffery Express, #26 South Shore Express and #X28 Stony Island Express buses are unable to serve the northbound far side stop at Michigan/Balbo due to repair work to the curb-side lane.
 
Northbound #6, #14, #26 and #X28 buses will travel over their regular routes along Balbo past Michigan to Wabash then will operate via Wabash, Harrison to Michigan and then resume the regular route.
 

Railroad Track Replacement Project Detours #56A North Milwaukee Buses

Devon Avenue between Avondale and Northwest Highway is closed to all traffic until 6 a.m. Saturday, October 31, due to a railroad track replacement project.
 
Southbound #56A North Milwaukee buses will travel over the regular route along Avondale past Devon to Oliphant then will operate via Oliphant, Northwest Highway, Devon to Harlem and then resume the regular route. Northbound #56A buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 

Weekday Reroute in Effect for Northbound #44 Wallace/Racine Buses

The northbound lane of Wallace Street at 41st Street is closed from 7:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. each weekday until Monday, November 2, due to viaduct work.
 
Northbound #44 Wallace/Racine buses will travel over the regular route along Wallace to 41st Street then will operate via 41st Street, Halsted, 39th Street to Wallace and then resume the regular route. Southbound #44 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
  

Temporary Change in Routing for #60 Blue Island/26th Buses

Eastbound #60 Blue Island/26th buses only will travel to Randolph/Field, instead of Randolph/Harbor, before turning to begin westbound service. This change in routing will remain in effect until Monday, November 2, due to reconstruction of a nearby driveway. Westbound #60 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 

Temporary Relocation of Bus Stop at Madison/Mayfield

The southbound near side stop at Madison/Mayfield has been relocated to a far side stop until Friday, November 20, due to a sewer main replacement project. This stop is served by #20 Madison and #X20 Washington/Madison buses.
 

#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick Buses Detoured Due to Water Main Project

Currently in effect until 3 p.m. Monday, November 30, Van Buren Street between Wells and Franklin is closed to all traffic due to a water main project.
 
Southbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses will travel over the regular route along Wells to Adams then will operate via Adams, Wacker to Van Buren and then resume the regular route along Van Buren. Northbound #11 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 

Buses Rerouted Due to Construction on Milwaukee Avenue

Eastbound #81W West Lawrence and northbound #91 Austin buses are being rerouted until Monday, November 30, due to construction on Milwaukee Avenue between Gale and Montrose.
 
Eastbound #81W West Lawrence and northbound #91 Austin buses will travel over their regular routes to Lawrence/Milwaukee to a far side stop then will continue eastbound on Lawrence to Lipps, heading north on Lipps to enter the Jefferson Park bus terminal.
 
Westbound #81W and southbound #91 buses are not affected and will travel along their regular routes.
 

Temporary Relocation of Bus Stop at Lake Park/50th Street

Currently in effect until Tuesday, December 1, the northbound mid-block stop on Lake Park Avenue near 50th Street temporarily has been relocated approximately 100 feet north due to nearby construction work. This stop is served by #2 Hyde Park Express, #6 Jackson Park Express, #28 Stony Island and #X28 Stony Island Express buses.
 

Street and Sewer Repairs Detour #96 Lunt Buses

Lunt Avenue between California and Western is closed to all traffic until 7 a.m. Monday, December 14, due to a sewer repair and street resurfacing project.
 
Westbound #96 Lunt buses will travel over the regular route along Lunt to Western then will operate via Western, Touhy past California and then resume the regular route along Touhy. Eastbound #96 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Northbound #24 Wentworth Buses Detoured Due to LaSalle Street Bridge Work

LaSalle Street between 28th and 26th streets is closed to all traffic until early-January 2010, due to the reconstruction of the LaSalle Street Bridge. Northbound #24 Wentworth buses will operate over the regular route along LaSalle to 31st Street then will travel via 31st Street, State, 26th Street to Wentworth and then resume the regular route. Southbound #24 buses will travel over the regular route.
 
Changes to #24 Wentworth Bus Stops
Due to the reconstruction of the LaSalle Street Bridge, the following changes have been made to bus stops served by #24 Wentworth buses:
 
  • LaSalle/31st Street: the northbound far side stop has been relocated to a near side stop.
  • Wentworth/26th Street: the northbound near side stop has been relocated to a westbound near side stop at 26th Street/Wentworth.
 

Lane Restrictions near State and Grand Detour #29 State and #65 Grand Buses

Due to lane restrictions associated with the Grand/State Red Line rehabilitation project at the northwest corner of State Street and Grand Avenue, #29 State and #36 Broadway buses are being detoured to adjacent streets. These changes in service are expected to remain in place until April 2010.
 
Southbound #29 State buses will operate over the regular route along Grand past State to Clark then will travel via Clark, Illinois to State and then resume the regular route.
 
Northbound #29 buses will be able to travel on the remaining open lane along State and will operate over its regular route.
 
Southbound #36 Broadway buses will travel over the regular route along State to Ontario then will operate via Ontario, Clark, Illinois to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along Dearborn past Illinois to Ohio then will travel via Ohio to State and then resume the regular route.
 

14 CTA Bus Routes Affected Due to Jackson Viaduct Work

Due to the reconstruction of the Jackson Boulevard viaduct between Canal and Wacker, changes in service along 14 CTA bus routes are expected to remain in place until April 2010. The following CTA bus routes are being rerouted to adjacent streets:

Temporary Removal of #66 Chicago Bus Stop

Currently in effect, the eastbound near side stop at Chicago/Clark served by #66 Chicago buses has been temporarily removed from service until Friday, April 30, 2010, due to construction.
