Blue Line – Events Affecting Service

Boarding Changes at Pulaski and Cicero on the Forest Park Branch This Weekend

All late night Blue Line trains will be routed to operate on the eastbound (to O’Hare) tracks at the Pulaski and Cicero stations from 10 p.m. Friday, October 28 until 6 a.m. the following morning and then again from 10 p.m. Saturday, October 29 until 6 a.m. the following morning, due to plumbing repair work.
 
During these times, westbound (to Forest Park) customers at the Pulaski and Cicero stations must board and exit trains from the eastbound (to O’Hare) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Two-Phase Single Track Operation in Effect on O’Hare Branch Sunday Night

A two-phase single track operation will be in effect for all late night Blue Line trains operating between the Logan Square and Montrose stations beginning Sunday night, October 30, due to track maintenance work.
 
Phase I – at Irving Park
From 11 p.m. Sunday, October 30 until 1 a.m. the following morning, Blue Line customers at the Irving Park station traveling northbound (to O’Hare) must board and exit trains from the southbound (to Forest Park) side of the platform.
 
Phase II – at Belmont, Addison and Irving Park
From 1 a.m. until 4 a.m. Monday, October 31, Blue Line customers at the Belmont, Addison and Irving Park stations traveling northbound (to O’Hare) must board and exit trains from the southbound (to Forest Park) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Trains Operating on the Same Tracks at the Irving Park Station Next Week

All late night Blue Line trains will be routed to operate on the southbound (to Forest Park) tracks at the Irving Park station from 11 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Monday night, October 31 through Thursday morning, November 3, due to track maintenance work.
 
During these times, northbound (to O’Hare) customers at the Irving Park station must board and exit trains from the southbound (to Forest Park) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Two-Phase Single Track Operation in Effect on O’Hare Branch Thursday Night

A two-phase single track operation will be in effect for all late night Blue Line trains operating between the Belmont and Jefferson Park stations beginning Thursday night, November 3, due to track maintenance work.
 
Phase I – at Montrose
From 11 p.m. Thursday, November 3 until 1 a.m. the following morning, Blue Line customers at the Montrose station traveling northbound (to O’Hare) must board and exit trains from the southbound (to Forest Park) side of the platform.
 
Phase II – at Irving Park and Montrose
From 1 a.m. until 4 a.m. Friday, November 4, Blue Line customers at the Irving Park and Montrose stations traveling northbound (to O’Hare) must board and exit trains from the southbound (to Forest Park) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Service for Upcoming Events

#19 United Center Express Serves Upcoming Events at the United Center

CTA will operate its #19 United Center Express for those attending the following events at the United Center this weekend and next week:
 
  • Saturday, October 29 at 7:30 p.m. – Columbus Blue Jackets versus Blackhawks
  • Monday, October 31 at 7:30 p.m. – Nashville Predators versus Blackhawks
 
Buses will leave every 12-15 minutes from Michigan and Randolph beginning 90 minutes before the start of each event. After each event, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3 and will depart approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.
 
Temporary Changes in Service for #19 Buses
Due to the closure of some downtown streets for Stage II of the Wacker Drive construction project, the following service changes are in effect along the #19 route:
 
Eastbound #19 buses are no longer being rerouted and have resumed traveling east on Washington over the regular route. The following changes have been made to bus stops served by eastbound buses:
 
  • Monroe/Canal: the temporary eastbound far side stop has been removed from service.
  • Washington/Canal: buses have resumed serving the eastbound near side stop.
  • Washington/Franklin: the eastbound near side stop has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop.
  • Washington/State: buses have resumed serving the eastbound far side stop.
 
Westbound #19 buses are being detoured and are traveling over the regular route along Madison to Franklin then operating via Franklin to Randolph and resuming the regular route. The following changes have been made to stops served by westbound buses:
 
  • Madison/Wacker: the westbound far side stop has been temporarily removed from service.
  • Madison/Clinton: the westbound near side stop has been temporarily removed from service.
  • Randolph/Wacker: buses are serving the westbound near side stop.
  • Randolph/Canal: buses are serving the westbound near side stop.
  • Randolph/Jefferson: buses are serving the new westbound near side stop.
 

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

Temporary Relocation of #8 Halsted Bus Stop Due to Bridge Work

Currently in effect until Thursday, December 22, the southbound far side stop at Halsted/North Branch served by #8 Halsted buses has been relocated to a near side stop on North Branch at Halsted. The new temporary location is also served by #132 Goose Island Express buses.
 

Closure of Northbound Wentworth at 49th Street Detours Three Bus Routes

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Monday, October 31, northbound #15 Jeffery Local, #24 Wentworth and #51 51st buses are being detoured due to the closure of the northbound lanes of Wentworth Avenue at 49th Street for a construction project.
 
Northbound #15 buses are traveling over the regular route along 51st Street to State then are operating via State, 47th Street to Wentworth and then resuming the regular route. Southbound #15 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 
Northbound #24 buses are operating over the regular route along Wentworth to 51st Street then are traveling via 51st Street, State, 47th Street to Wentworth and then resuming the regular route. Southbound #24 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 
Northbound #51 buses are traveling over the regular route along 51st Street to State then are operating via State to 47th Street and resuming the regular route west on 47th Street past Wentworth. Southbound #51 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 

Northbound #145 and #148 Buses Temporarily Detoured at Wilson/Broadway

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Tuesday, November 1, northbound #145 Wilson/Michigan Express and #148 Clarendon/Michigan Express buses are being detoured due to street infrastructure repair work at Wilson/Broadway.
 
Northbound #145 and #148 buses are operating over their regular routes along Wilson to Sheridan then are traveling via Sheridan, Montrose, Broadway to Wilson and then resuming the regular route. Southbound #145 and #148 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 

Restoration of #22 Clark Bus Stop at Clark/Addison

Due to the completion of nearby construction work, the temporary northbound far side stop at Clark/Addison has been returned to its original near side location. This stop is served by #22 Clark buses.
 

Water Main Repair Work Detours Southbound #94 South California Buses

Currently in effect until approximately 6 p.m. Saturday, November 12, southbound #94 South California buses are being detoured to the adjacent California Boulevard due to the closure of southbound California Avenue between 24th and 30th streets for a water main repair project.
 
Southbound #94 buses are traveling over the regular route along California Avenue to 24th Street then are operating via 24th Street, California Boulevard, 30th Street to California Avenue and then resuming the regular route. Northbound #94 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 

Temporary Changes to #60 Blue Island/26th and #94 South California Bus Stops

Currently in effect until approximately 6 p.m. Saturday, November 12, due to a water main project along California Avenue between 24th and 30th streets, the following temporary changes have been made to bus stops along the #60 Blue Island/26th and #94 South California bus routes:
 
#60 Blue Island/26th
  • 26th Street/California Avenue: the eastbound near side stop has been eliminated. The westbound far side stop has been relocated 50 feet west.
 
#94 South California
  • California Avenue/24th Street: the southbound near side stop has been eliminated. Customers can board southbound buses at the new temporary near side stop at California Boulevard/24th Street.
  • California Avenue/25th Street: the southbound near side stop has been eliminated. Customers can board southbound buses at the new temporary near side stop at California Boulevard/25th Street.
  • California Avenue/26th Street: the southbound near side stop has been eliminated. Customers can board southbound buses at the new temporary near side stop at California Boulevard/26th Street.
  • California Avenue at Court House Entrance: the southbound mid-block has been eliminated. Customers can board southbound buses at the new temporary mid-block stop on California Boulevard north of the crosswalk between the parking garage and court house entrance.
  • 2800 S. California Avenue: the southbound mid-block stop has been eliminated. Customers can board southbound buses at the new temporary mid-block stop located at 2800 S. California Boulevard.
  • 2900 S. California Avenue: the southbound mid-block stop has been eliminated. Customers can board southbound buses at the new temporary mid-block stop located at 2900 S. California Boulevard.
 

Pumpkin Jamboree Parade Detours #62 Archer and #62H Archer/Harlem Buses

From 9 a.m. until approximately 11:30 a.m. Saturday, October 29, #62 Archer and #62H Archer/Harlem buses will be detoured due to the closure of Archer Avenue between Narragansett and Nordica for the Pumpkin Jamboree Parade.
 
Southbound #62 buses will travel over the regular route along Archer to Narragansett then will operate via Narragansett, 63rd Street, Harlem, Archer to Neva and then enter the terminal before beginning northbound service. Northbound #62 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Eastbound #62H buses will operate over the regular route along Archer to Narragansett then will travel via Narragansett to 63rd Street and then resume the regular route west on 63rd Street past Harlem. Eastbound #62H buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Temporary Reroute of Northbound #147 Buses Due to Construction on Congress

Currently in effect until approximately 6 p.m. Friday, November 18, northbound #147 Outer Drive Express buses are being detoured due to lane configuration for construction on Congress near State Street. As a result of the lane configuration, northbound #147 buses traveling west on Congress are unable to make right turns onto State Street.
 
Northbound #147 buses are instead operating along Congress past State to Dearborn then are traveling via Dearborn, Jackson to State and resuming the regular route. Southbound #147 buses are unaffected and are traveling over the regular route.
 

Curb Reconstruction Project Detours #39 Pershing Buses

Currently in effect until approximately 6 p.m. Friday, November 4, #39 Pershing buses are being rerouted due to the closure of St. Louis Avenue between 38th and 39th streets for a curb reconstruction project.
 
Westbound #39 buses are traveling over the regular route along Pershing to Kedzie then are operating via Kedzie, 38th Street to Homan before turning to begin eastbound service. From Homan/38th Street, eastbound #39 buses are traveling south on Homan to Pershing and then traveling east on Pershing over the regular route.
 

Crane Lift Detours Two Bus Routes Serving the University of Chicago on Saturday

From 7 a.m. until approximately 2 p.m. Saturday, October 29, southbound #171 U of C/Hyde Park and #172 U of C/Kenwood buses will be detoured due to the closure of Ellis Avenue between 57th and 59th streets for a scheduled crane lift.
 
Southbound #171 buses will operate over the regular route along 55th Street past Ellis to Cottage Grove then will travel via Cottage Grove, 60th Street to Ellis and then resume the regular route. Northbound #171 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 
Southbound #172 buses will travel over the regular route along Ellis to 55th Street then will operate 55th Street, Cottage Grove to 60th Street and then resume the regular route west on 60th Street past Ellis.
 

Race of the Dead (Carrera de los Muertos) Detours Four Bus Routes on Saturday

On Saturday, October 29 from 7:30 a.m. until 10 a.m., #8 Halsted, #9 Ashland, #18 16th/18th and #60 Blue Island/26th buses will be detoured to adjacent streets to maintain service during the annual Race of the Dead (Carrera de los Muertos).
 
Northbound #8 buses will travel over the regular route along Halsted Street to 18th Street then will operate via 18th Street, Canal, Roosevelt to Halsted and then resume the regular route. Southbound #8 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Northbound #9 buses will operate over the regular route along Ashland Avenue to 18th Street then will travel via 18th Street, Damen, Roosevelt to Ashland and then resume the regular route. Southbound #9 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Eastbound #18 buses will travel over the regular route along 18th Street to Damen then will operate via Damen to Roosevelt and then resume the regular route east of Halsted. Westbound #18 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Eastbound #60 buses will operate over the regular route along Blue Island Avenue to Ashland then will travel via Ashland, 18th Street, Damen, Roosevelt to Racine and then resume the regular route. Westbound #60 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

North Halsted Halloween Parade Detours Four Bus Routes on Monday

From 3 p.m. until midnight Monday, October 31, #8 Halsted, #151 Sheridan (to Belmont/Halsted only), #152 Addison and #156 LaSalle buses will be rerouted due to the annual North Halsted Halloween parade.
 
Northbound #8 buses will travel over the regular route along Halsted to Clark then will operate via Clark, Sheffield, Addison to Halsted and then resume the regular route. Southbound #8 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Northbound #151 (to Belmont/Halsted only) and #156 buses will operate over their regular routes along Sheridan to Belmont and then continue north on Inner Lake Shore Drive to West Sheridan then will travel via West Sheridan, Pine Grove, Irving Park, Inner Lake Shore Drive to Addison before beginning southbound service.
 
Southbound #151 and #156 buses will continue south on Inner Lake Shore Drive to Sheridan and then resume their regular routes.
 
Eastbound #152 buses will travel over their regular routes along Addison to Clark then will operate via Clark, Irving Park, Broadway to Addison and then resume the regular route. Westbound #152 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

#60 Blue Island/26th Buses Temporarily Unable to Enter Harbor Point Turn-Around

From 6 a.m. Tuesday, November 1 until approximately 5 a.m. Saturday, November 5, eastbound #60 Blue Island/26th buses will be unable to enter the Harbor Point bus turn-around due to construction. As a result, eastbound buses will operate only to Randolph/Field before turning to begin westbound service. Westbound #60 buses will travel west on Randolph over the regular route.
 

Ongoing Bus Service Changes

Near North Farmer’s Market Detours #36 Broadway and #70 Division Buses

From 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, October 29, #36 Broadway and #70 Division buses will be detoured due to the closure of Division Street between State and Clark for the Near North Farmer’s Market.
 
Southbound #36 buses will travel over the regular route along Clark past Division to Maple then will operate via Maple to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along State to Elm then will travel via Elm to Clark and then resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #70 buses will travel over the regular route along Division to Clark and then will operate via Clark, Maple to Dearborn and then resume the regular route. Westbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route. 
 

Daytime Reroutes in Effect for Five Routes Due to Building Construction Work

Currently in effect through Wednesday, November 2, five CTA bus routes will undergo temporary reroutes from 9 a.m. each day until approximately 4 p.m. during weekdays only due to construction on Illinois between Peshtigo and Lower Lake Shore Drive.
 
During these times, buses along the #2 Hyde Park Express, #29 State, #65 Grand, #66 Chicago and #124 Navy Pier will be rerouted to adjacent streets.
 
Northbound #29 and eastbound #65 buses will travel over the regular route to Illinois/Columbus then will operate via Columbus, Lower Wacker, Lower Lake Shore Drive to Illinois then continue east on Illinois over the regular route. Southbound #29 and westbound #65 buses are not affected and will operate over the regular route.
 
Northbound #2 and eastbound #66 buses will travel over the regular route to Columbus/Illinois then will operate via Columbus to Lower Wacker, Lower Lake Shore Drive to Illinois and then continue east on Illinois over the regular route. Southbound #2 and westbound #66 buses are not affected and will operate over the regular route.
 
Eastbound #124 buses will travel over the regular route to Columbus/Lower Wacker then will operate via Lower Wacker, Lower Lake Shore Drive to Illinois then continue east on Illinois over the regular route. Westbound #124 buses are not affected and will operate over the regular route.
 

#8A South Halsted Buses Detoured Due to a Viaduct Construction Project

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Tuesday, November 15, #8A South Halsted buses are being detoured due to a viaduct construction project along Halsted Street between 85th and 87th streets.
 
Southbound #8A buses are traveling over the regular route along Halsted to 85th Street/Summit then are operating via Summit, 87th Street to Halsted and then resuming the regular route.
 
Northbound #8A buses are traveling over the regular route along Halsted to Vincennes then are operating via Vincennes, Summit to Halsted and then resuming the regular route.

 

Temporary Removal of Bus Stop at Stony Island/83rd Street

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, November 18, the northbound near side stop at Stony Island/83rd Street has been temporarily removed from service due to a water management construction project. This stop is served by #28 Stony Island and #X28 Stony Island Express buses.
 

Detour of #111 Pullman/111th/115th Buses for Bridge Repairs Extended

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Wednesday, November 30, #111 Pullman/111th/115th buses are being detoured from Cottage Grove between 98th Street and 100th Place due to bridge repair work.
 
Southbound #111 buses are traveling over the regular route along 95th Street to King Drive then operating via King Drive, 100th Street to Cottage Grove and resuming the regular route. Northbound #111 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Construction Detours #20 Madison and #90 Harlem Buses Until December

Currently in effect until Friday, December 2, eastbound #20 Madison (Owl service) buses and #90 Harlem buses are being detoured due to the closure of North Boulevard and South Boulevard between Marion and Home for a construction project.
 
Eastbound #20 (Owl service) buses are operating over the regular route along Harlem past North Boulevard to Washington then are traveling via Washington, Maple, Randolph, Harlem to Lake and resuming the regular route. Westbound #20 (Owl service) buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 
Southbound #90 buses are traveling over the regular route along Harlem past North Boulevard to Washington then are operating via Washington, Maple, Randolph, Harlem to Harlem/South Boulevard before beginning northbound service. From Harlem/South Boulevard, northbound #90 buses are traveling north on Harlem over the regular route.
 

Changes in Service along #8 Halsted Route for Bridge Reconstruction Project

Currently in effect until late-December 2011, Halsted Street between Division and the north branch of the Chicago River is closed due to a bridge reconstruction project.
 
Northbound #8 Halsted buses are traveling over the regular route along Halsted past Chicago to North Branch then are operating via North Branch, Cherry, Division to Halsted and then resuming the regular route. Southbound #8 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 
Changes to Bus Stops
  • Halsted/North Branch: the northbound far side stop on Halsted has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop on North Branch at Halsted.
  • Halsted/Division: the southbound far side stop has been temporarily relocated to a near side stop.
 

Temporary Bus Stop Changes due to Madison Street Viaduct Project

Currently in effect until approximately 3 p.m. Saturday, December 31, the following bus stop changes are in effect due to the Madison Street viaduct project. These changes are affecting service along seven routes.
 
  • Canal/Madison: the northbound far side stop will be removed from service. This stop is served by #60 Blue Island/26th, #124 Navy Pier, #125 Water Tower Express, #129 West Loop/South Loop (PM service only), #130 Museum Campus, #132 Goose Island Express and #157 Streeterville/Taylor buses.
  • Canal/Washington: a temporary northbound near side stop will be added. This stop will be served by #132 buses.
 

Service Changes to 14 Downtown Bus Routes for Stage II of Wacker Drive Project

Currently in effect, changes in service have been made to 14 CTA bus routes that operate in the downtown area near Wacker Drive and Madison due to work associated with Stage II of the Wacker Drive construction project.
 
Construction on Wacker Drive will result in changes along the following routes: 
 
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick (bus stops only)
#121 Union/Wacker Express
#14 Jeffery Express
#122 Illinois Center/Ogilvie Express
#19 United Center Express
#123 Illinois Center/Union Express
#20 Madison
#124 Navy Pier
#56 Milwaukee
#125 Water Tower Express
#60 Blue Island/26th
#129 West Loop/South Loop
#120 Ogilvie/Wacker Express
#157 Streeterville/Taylor

Service Adjustments Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project

Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project, Franklin Street between Harrison and Van Buren and Lower Wacker Drive between Randolph and Harrison are closed until May 2012. As a result of these closures and other street reconfigurations, the following changes in bus service currently are in effect:
 
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
Northbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses are traveling over the regular route along Harrison to Canal then are operating via Canal, Jackson to Franklin and resuming the regular route. Southbound #11 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes also have been made to bus stops served by northbound #11 buses:
 
  • Canal/Harrison: a far side stop has been added to service.
  • Canal/Jackson: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Jackson at the Chicago River: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • 404 W. Harrison: the mid-block stop has been removed from service.
  • Franklin/Van Buren: the far side stop has been removed from service.
 
#121 Union/Wacker Express
Northbound #121 Union/Wacker Express buses are operating over the regular route along Jackson past Wacker to Franklin then are traveling via Franklin, Lake, Post Place to Lower Wacker and then resuming the regular route.
 
Southbound #121 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand to Wabash then traveling via Wabash, Wacker, Franklin to Adams and then resuming the regular route.
 
#135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express buses are traveling south on Wacker to Jackson then are traveling east on Jackson past Franklin and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #135 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express buses are operating south on Wacker to Van Buren then are traveling via Van Buren, Canal to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #136 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#156 LaSalle (PM Service Only)
During the evening rush period only, northbound #156 LaSalle buses departing from Union Station are traveling west on Van Buren to Wacker then are operating via Wacker to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary bus stop change has been made and is in effect for northbound #156 buses during the evening rush period only: 
 
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 

Relocation of #36 Broadway Bus Stop Due to Nearby Construction

Currently in effect until Friday, July 12, 2013, the southbound near side stop at Broadway/Elmdale served by #36 Broadway buses has been relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction.
 

Removal of Bus Stop Change Affects Five Routes

Currently in effect until Thursday, August 1, 2013, the mid-block bus stop located at 5800 South on Stony Island has been temporarily removed due to construction. This stop is served by the #2 Hyde Park Express, #6 Jackson Park Express, #15 Jeffery Local, #28 Stony Island and #X28 Stony Island buses.
