Blue Line – Slow Zone Work
Rail Service Temporarily Suspended in Dearborn Subway This Weekend
Rail service between the Blue Line’s Clark/Lake and UIC-Halsted stations temporarily will be suspended from 10 p.m. Friday, October 2 until 4 a.m. Monday, October 5, as work continues this weekend to replace track in the south end of the Dearborn subway.
Bus shuttles will operate as a substitute for rail service making stops adjacent to the Clark/Lake, Washington, Monroe, Jackson, LaSalle, Clinton and UIC-Halsted stations. Southbound buses will travel along Clark and Van Buren and northbound buses will operate via Harrison and Dearborn.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
Trains Undergo Late Night Single Track Next Week at the Austin Station
A late night single track will be in effect for eastbound Blue Line trains at the Austin station on the Forest Park branch from 9 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Monday, October 5 through Friday morning, October 9.
During these times, eastbound Blue Line customers at the Austin station must board and exit trains from the westbound side of the platform.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
Red Line – Slow Zone Work
Reroute in Effect for Red Line Trains at Sheridan on Saturday
Northbound and southbound Red Line trains will be rerouted at the Sheridan station from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 3, while crews replace deteriorated rail ties, tie plates and spikes.
During this time, northbound and southbound Red Line trains will operate on the Purple Express tracks. Customers at the Sheridan station must board and exit trains from the outer platforms instead of the inner platforms.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
Next Week
Work to reduce slow zones near the Sheridan Red Line station continues next week resulting in a reroute of northbound and southbound trains from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. each day beginning Tuesday, October 6 through Friday, October 9.
During these times, northbound and southbound Red Line trains will operate on the Purple Express tracks. Customers at the Sheridan station must board and exit trains from the outer platforms instead of the inner platforms.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
Red/Brown Lines – Other Events Affecting Service
Southbound Trains Rerouted at Fullerton and Belmont This Weekend
A reroute will be in effect for Red and Brown line trains at the Fullerton and Belmont stations this weekend due to work on the platform canopies. Southbound Red and Brown line trains temporarily will be rerouted to operate on the northbound tracks from 9 p.m. Friday, October 2 until 9 a.m. the following morning and then again from 9 p.m. Saturday, October 3 until 9 a.m. the following morning.
Southbound Red and Brown line customers at the Fullerton and Belmont stations must board and exit trains from the northbound Red Line side of the platform. Northbound Red Line customers at these stations must board and exit trains from the northbound Brown Line side of the platform.
During these times, northbound Red and Brown line trains will make stops at Diversey and Wellington, as southbound Brown Line trains will be unable to stop at either station.
Southbound Brown Line customers who want to exit at Wellington or Diversey should ride to Fullerton and transfer to a northbound train to their respective station. Customers at Wellington and Diversey who want to travel south should take a northbound train to Belmont and transfer to a southbound train.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the route and direction of each train.
Northbound Red and Brown Line Trains Rerouted at Fullerton Next Week
Work on the platform canopies continues next week at the Fullerton station resulting in the temporary reroute of northbound Red and Brown line trains to operate on the southbound tracks from 9 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Monday night, October 5 through Friday morning, October 9.
Northbound Red and Brown line customers at the Fullerton station must board and exit trains from the southbound Red Line side of the platform. Southbound Red Line customers at this station must board and exit trains from the southbound Brown Line side of the platform.
During these times, northbound Brown Line trains will be unable to stop at Diversey and Wellington. Northbound Brown Line customers who want to exit at Diversey or Wellington should ride to Belmont and transfer to a southbound train to their respective station. Customers at Diversey and Wellington who want to travel north should take a southbound train to Fullerton and transfer to a northbound train.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the route and direction of each train.
Brown Line – Other Events Affecting Service
Two-Phase Single Track in Effect Between the Sedgwick and Chicago Stations
A two-phase single track will be in effect for southbound and northbound Brown Line trains between the Sedgwick and Chicago stations on Sunday, October 4, while crews perform maintenance work on the elevated structure.
Phase I – Southbound
From 6:30 a.m. until noon on Sunday, southbound Brown Line customers at the Sedgwick and Chicago stations must board and exit trains from the northbound platform.
Phase II – Northbound
From noon until 5 p.m. on Sunday, northbound Brown Line customers at the Chicago and Sedgwick stations must board and exit trains from the southbound platform.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
Green Line – Other Events Affecting Service
Daytime Single Track in Effect at the Halsted Green Line Station This Weekend
A daytime single track will be in effect for southbound Green Line trains at the Halsted station from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday, October 3 and then again during the same hours on Sunday, October 4, due to track maintenance work.
During these times, southbound Green Line customers at the Halsted station must board and exit trains from the northbound platform.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
Additional Service for Special Events
#19 United Center Express Serves Upcoming Concert
CTA will operate its #19 United Center Express buses for the following events at the United Center:
- Tuesday, October 6 at 7:30 p.m. – So You Think You Can Dance Tour
- Thursday, October 8 at 7:30 p.m. – Maxwell concert
Buses will leave every 10 minutes from Michigan and Randolph beginning 90 minutes before the start of the event until the starting time of the event. When the event ends, #19 buses will depart the United Center approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.
CTA Provides Service for Bears Game
The #128 Soldier Field Express and #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express are convenient travel options for fans heading to the Bears game on Sunday, October 4 versus the Detroit Lions. Kickoff is at noon.
The #128 Soldier Field Express operates non-stop between the Ogilvie Transportation Center, Union Station and Soldier Field. Service will begin at approximately 9:30 a.m. After the game, buses will leave Soldier Field every few minutes for approximately one hour.
The fare for #128 buses is $1 for full-fare customers. The exact cash fare is required to receive the special rate.
In addition, Red, Orange and Green line trains serve customers traveling to and from Soldier Field via the Roosevelt station a few blocks west of the stadium.
Buses Rerouted
In anticipation of heavy traffic along Roosevelt and Lake Shore Drive due to the football game at Soldier Field, four CTA bus routes will be detoured from 10:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 4.
Southbound #6 Jackson Park Express and #10 Museum of Science & Industry buses will travel over their regular routes along Balbo to Michigan then will operate via Michigan, Cermak, King Drive, 31st Street to Lake Shore Drive and then resume their regular routes. Northbound #6 and #10 buses will travel the reverse route.
Southbound #14 Jeffery Express buses will operate over the regular route along Michigan past Balbo to Cermak then will operate via Cermak, King Drive, 31st Street to Lake Shore Drive and then resume the regular route. Northbound #14 buses will travel the reverse route.
Southbound #146 buses will travel over the regular route along Columbus to Lake Shore Drive then will operate via Lake Shore Drive, 18th Street to Museum Campus Drive and then resume the regular route.
Northbound #146 buses will travel over the regular route along Museum Campus Drive to Waldron then will operate via Waldron, Lake Shore Drive to Columbus and then resume the regular route.
New/Updated Changes in Bus Service
Changes to Bus Stops along Five CTA Bus Routes
Currently in effect, the following changes have been made to bus stops along the subsequent bus routes:
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
The southbound near side stop at Wells/Van Buren has been removed from service.
#18 16th/18th
The westbound near side stop at 18th Street/Paulina has been relocated to the 18th Street Pink Line station.
#49 Western
The southbound near side stop at Western/Polk has been relocated to a far side stop.
#68 Northwest Highway
- Northwest Highway/Nagle: the northbound and southbound near side stops have been relocated to far side stops.
- Northwest Highway/McVicker: the northbound and southbound stops have been removed from service.
- Northwest Highway/Central: the southbound near side stop has been relocated to a far side stop.
#77 Belmont
The eastbound and westbound near side stops at Belmont/Damen have been relocated to far side stops.
Temporary Relocation of #53 Pulaski Bus Stop
Currently in effect until Friday, October 9, the northbound near side stop at Pulaski/Foster temporarily will be relocated to a far side stop due to the closure of the northbound lane and sidewalk for a water main construction project. This stop is served by #53 Pulaski buses.
Temporary Relocation of Bus Stop at Lake Park/50th Street
Currently in effect until Tuesday, December 1, the northbound mid-block stop on Lake Park Avenue near 50th Street temporarily will be relocated approximately 100 feet north due to nearby construction work. This stop is served by #2 Hyde Park Express, #6 Jackson Park Express, #28 Stony Island and #X28 Stony Island Express buses.
Brighton Park Fall Festival Detours #62 Archer Buses
Currently in effect until 6 a.m. Monday, October 5, Archer Avenue between Kedzie and Sacramento will be closed to all traffic due to the Brighton Park Fall Festival.
Westbound #62 Archer buses will travel over the regular route along Archer to California then will operate via California, 47th Street, Kedzie to Archer and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #62 buses will travel the reverse route.
Water Main Work Temporarily Reroutes Eastbound #63 63rd Buses Next Week
From 9 a.m. Monday, October 5 until 4 p.m. Wednesday, October 7, the eastbound lane of 63rd Street near Dorchester will be closed to all traffic due to water main construction work.
Eastbound #63 63rd buses will operate over the regular route along 63rd Street to Woodlawn then will travel via Woodlawn, 64th Street, Blackstone to 63rd Street and then resume the regular route. Westbound #63 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
Construction at the Belmont Station Detours #77 Belmont Buses This Weekend
Due to construction work associated with the Brown Line capacity expansion project, Belmont Avenue at the CTA rail station will be closed to all traffic from 9 p.m. Friday, October 2 until 9 a.m. the following morning and then again from 9 p.m. Saturday, October 3 until 9 a.m. the following morning.
Eastbound #77 Belmont buses will travel over the regular route to Belmont/Sheffield, then will operate via Sheffield, Addison, Halsted then return to Belmont and resume the regular route. Westbound buses will travel the reverse route.
Temporary Removal of #66 Chicago Bus Stop
Effective at the start of service on Friday, October 2, the eastbound near side stop at Chicago/Clark served by #66 Chicago buses temporarily will be removed from service until Friday, April 30, 2010, due to construction.
Removal of Cooling Tower on University of Chicago Campus Detours Two Routes
Ellis Avenue between 57th Street and 59th Street will be closed to all traffic from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. each day on Saturday, October 3 and Sunday, October 4, due to the removal of a cooling tower on the campus of the University of Chicago.
Southbound #171 University of Chicago/Hyde Park and #172 University of Chicago/Kenwood buses will travel over their regular routes along Ellis to 57th Street then will operate via 57th Street, Woodlawn, Midway Plaisance to Ellis and then resume their regular routes. Northbound #171 and #172 buses are not affected and will travel over their regular routes.
Three Routes Detoured Next Week Due to Repair Work on the State Street Bridge
The State Street Bridge over the Chicago River will be closed to all traffic from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. each day on Monday, October 5 and Tuesday, October 6, due to maintenance and repair work.
Northbound #29 State buses will operate over the regular route along State Street to Wacker then will travel via Wacker, Dearborn, Kinzie to State and then resume the regular route.
Southbound #29 buses will travel over the regular route along Grand past State to Clark then will operate via Clark, Illinois, Wacker to State and then resume the regular route.
Southbound #36 Broadway buses will operate over the regular route along State to Ontario then will travel via Ontario, Clark, Wacker to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
Northbound #62 Archer buses will travel over the regular route along Dearborn to Kinzie before turning to begin southbound service. Southbound #62 buses will depart from Dearborn/Kinzie and will travel via Dearborn, Hubbard, Clark, Wacker to State and then resume the regular route.
Ongoing Bus Reroutes
#72 North Bus Stop Temporarily Removed From Service
Currently in effect until Sunday, October 11, the westbound near side stop at North Avenue/Bosworth served by #72 North buses has been temporarily removed from service due to sidewalk replacement work.
Bus Stop at Clark/Lake Temporarily Relocated
Until further notice, the southbound stop at Clark/Lake has been relocated approximately 100 feet south to a mid-block stop on Clark between Lake and Randolph due to façade repair work at the James R. Thompson Center. This stop is served by #22 Clark and #24 Wentworth buses.
#75 74th/75th Bus Stop Changes
Due to sewer construction work, the eastbound and westbound bus stops at 75th Street/Indiana served by #75 74th/75th buses temporarily will be removed from service until further notice.
Eastbound customers can board and exit #75 buses from the near side stops at 75th Street/Prairie or 75th Street/Michigan.
Westbound customers can board and exit #75 buses from the near side stops at 75th Street/Michigan or 75th Street/Prairie.
Temporary Change in Routing for #60 Blue Island/26th Buses
Currently in effect until 5 p.m. Friday, October 16, eastbound #60 Blue Island/26th buses only will travel to Randolph/Field, instead of Randolph/Harbor, before turning to begin westbound service. This change in routing is due to reconstruction of a nearby driveway. Westbound #60 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
Westbound Lanes of Division Street Bridge Closed for Repairs
The westbound lanes of the Division Street Bridge over the north branch of the Chicago River, between Halsted and Hooker, are closed to all traffic until 5 p.m. Friday, October 16, due to repair work.
Westbound #70 Division buses will operate over the regular route along Division to Larrabee then will travel via Larrabee, Chicago, Milwaukee, Elston to Division and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
Southbound #132 Goose Island Express buses will travel over the regular route along Halsted past Division to North Branch Street then will operate via North Branch, Cherry to Division and then resume the regular route. Northbound #132 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
Phase III of 75th Street Sewer Project Detours #75 74th/75th Buses
Currently in effect until 5 p.m. Monday, October 19, 75th Street between King Drive and Eberhart is closed to all traffic due to sewer construction work.
Eastbound #75 74th/75th buses will operate over the regular route along 75th Street to King Drive then will travel via King Drive, 76th Street, St. Lawrence to 75th Street and then resume the regular route.
Westbound #75 buses will travel over the regular route along 75th Street to Lawrence then will operate via Lawrence, 73rd Street, King Drive to 75th Street and then resume the regular route.
Bridge Reconstruction Work Detours Westbound #96 Lunt Buses
Currently in effect until 6 a.m. Monday, October 26, Touhy Avenue is closed between Kedzie and McCormick due to bridge reconstruction work.
Westbound #96 Lunt buses will travel over the regular route along Touhy to Kedzie then will operate via Kedzie, Howard to McCormick and then will resume the regular route south of Touhy. Eastbound #96 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
Buses Rerouted on Saturdays for the Near North Farmer’s Market
From 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Saturday through October 31, Division Street between State and Clark is closed for the Near North Farmer’s Market.
Southbound #36 Broadway buses will travel over the regular route along Clark past Division to Maple then will operate via Maple to State and then resume the regular route.
Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along State to Elm then will travel via Elm to Clark and then resume the regular route.
Eastbound #70 Division buses will travel over the regular route along Division to Clark and then will operate via Clark, Maple to Dearborn and then resume the regular route. Westbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
Buses Rerouted Due to Construction on Milwaukee Avenue
Eastbound #81W West Lawrence and northbound #91 Austin buses are being rerouted until Monday, November 30, due to construction on Milwaukee Avenue between Gale and Montrose.
Eastbound #81W West Lawrence and northbound #91 Austin buses will travel over their regular routes to Lawrence/Milwaukee to a far side stop then will continue eastbound on Lawrence to Lipps, heading north on Lipps to enter the Jefferson Park bus terminal.
Westbound #81W and southbound #91 buses are not affected and will travel along their regular routes.
Northbound #24 Wentworth Buses Detoured Due to LaSalle Street Bridge Work
LaSalle Street between 28th and 26th streets is closed to all traffic until early-January 2010, due to the reconstruction of the LaSalle Street Bridge. Northbound #24 Wentworth buses will operate over the regular route along LaSalle to 31st Street then will travel via 31st Street, State, 26th Street to Wentworth and then resume the regular route. Southbound #24 buses will travel over the regular route.
Changes to #24 Wentworth Bus Stops
Due to the reconstruction of the LaSalle Street Bridge, the following changes will be made to bus stops served by #24 Wentworth buses:
- LaSalle/31st Street: the northbound far side stop will be relocated to a near side stop.
- Wentworth/26th Street: the northbound near side stop will be relocated to a westbound near side stop at 26th Street/Wentworth.
Lane Restrictions near State and Grand Detour #29 State and #65 Grand Buses
Due to lane restrictions associated with the Grand/State Red Line rehabilitation project at the northwest corner of State Street and Grand Avenue, #29 State and #36 Broadway buses are being detoured to adjacent streets. These changes in service are expected to remain in place until April 2010.
Southbound #29 State buses will operate over the regular route along Grand past State to Clark then will travel via Clark, Illinois to State and then resume the regular route.
Northbound #29 buses will be able to travel on the remaining open lane along State and will operate over its regular route.
Southbound #36 Broadway buses will travel over the regular route along State to Ontario then will operate via Ontario, Clark, Illinois to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along Dearborn past Illinois to Ohio then will travel via Ohio to State and then resume the regular route.
14 CTA Bus Routes Affected Due to Jackson Viaduct Work
Due to the reconstruction of the Jackson Boulevard viaduct between Canal and Wacker, changes in service along 14 CTA bus routes are expected to remain in place until April 2010. The following CTA bus routes are being rerouted to adjacent streets:
