Blue Line – Slow Zone Work
Construction Work in Dearborn Subway Resumes this Weekend
Rail service between the Blue Line’s Clark/Lake and UIC-Halsted stations temporarily will be suspended from 10 p.m. Friday, November 6 until 4 a.m. Monday, November 9, as crews work to replace track in the south end of the Dearborn subway.
Bus shuttles will operate as a substitute for rail service making stops adjacent to the Clark/Lake, Washington, Monroe, Jackson, LaSalle, Clinton and UIC-Halsted stations. Southbound buses will travel along Clark and Van Buren and northbound buses will operate via Harrison and Dearborn.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
Late Night Single Track in Effect between the LaSalle and UIC-Halsted Stations
A late night single track will be in effect for westbound Blue Line trains between the LaSalle and UIC-Halsted stations on the Forest Park branch from 10 p.m. Monday, November 9 until 4 a.m. the following morning.
Westbound Blue Line customers at the LaSalle, Clinton and UIC-Halsted stations must board and exit trains from the eastbound side of the platform.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
Tuesday Night – Eastbound
From 10 p.m. Tuesday, November 10 until 4 a.m. the following morning, eastbound Blue Line trains will undergo a late night single track between the UIC-Halsted and LaSalle stations on the Forest Park branch.
During this time, eastbound Blue Line customers at the UIC-Halsted, Clinton and LaSalle stations must board and exit trains from the westbound side of the platform.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
Single Track in Effect at the Harlem Station on the Forest Park Branch
Westbound Blue Line trains will undergo a late night single track at the Harlem station on the Forest Park branch from 9 p.m. Wednesday, November 11 until 4 a.m. the following morning.
Westbound Blue Line customers at the Harlem station must board and exit trains from the eastbound side of the platform.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
Westbound Single Track in Effect on the Forest Park Branch Tuesday Night
A late night single track will be in effect for westbound Blue Line trains between the Austin and Harlem stations on the Forest Park branch from 9 p.m. Thursday, November 12 until 4 a.m. the following morning.
Westbound Blue Line customers at the Oak Park station must board and exit trains from the eastbound side of the platform.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
Red Line – Slow Zone Work
Trains Rerouted at the Sheridan Station This Weekend and Next Week
Northbound and southbound Red Line trains will be rerouted at the Sheridan station from 6 a.m. Saturday, November 7 until 6 p.m. Sunday, November 8, while crews replace deteriorated rail ties, tie plates and spikes.
During this time, northbound and southbound Red Line trains will operate on the Purple Express tracks. Customers at the Sheridan station must board and exit trains from the outer platforms instead of the inner platforms.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
Next Week
Work to reduce slow zones near the Sheridan Red Line station continues next week resulting in a reroute of northbound and southbound trains from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. each day beginning Tuesday, November 10 through Friday, November 13.
During these times, northbound and southbound Red Line trains will operate on the Purple Express tracks. Customers at the Sheridan station must board and exit trains from the outer platforms instead of the inner platforms.

Red/Brown Lines – Other Events Affecting Service
Friday Night Reroute of Northbound Trains at the Belmont Station
Northbound Red and Brown line trains will be rerouted to operate on the southbound Red Line tracks at the Belmont station from 9 p.m. Friday, November 6 until 5:30 a.m. the following morning, due to work on the platform canopy.
Northbound Red and Brown line customers at the Belmont station must board and exit trains from the southbound Red Line side of the platform. Southbound Red Line customers at Belmont must board and exit trains from the southbound Brown Line side of the platform.
During this time, northbound Brown Line trains will be unable to stop at Diversey and Wellington. Northbound Brown Line customers who want to exit at Diversey or Wellington should ride to Belmont and transfer to a southbound train to their respective station. Customers at Diversey and Wellington who want to travel north should take a southbound train to Fullerton and transfer to a northbound train.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the route and direction of each train.
Daytime Reroute of Southbound Trains at Belmont and Fullerton This Weekend
A reroute will be in effect for southbound Red and Brown line trains at the Belmont and Fullerton stations this weekend due to work on the platform canopies. Southbound Red and Brown line trains temporarily will be rerouted to operate on the northbound Red Line tracks from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday, November 7 and then again from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday, November 8.
Southbound Red and Brown line customers at the Belmont and Fullerton stations must board and exit trains from the northbound Red Line side of the platform. Northbound Red Line customers at these stations must board and exit trains from the northbound Brown Line side of the platform.
During these times, northbound Red and Brown line trains will make stops at Diversey and Wellington; however, southbound Brown Line trains will not stop at either station.

Work on the platform canopies continues next week at the Belmont station resulting in the temporary reroute of southbound Red and Brown line trains to operate on the northbound Red Line tracks from 8 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Monday, November 9 through Friday morning, November 13.
Southbound Red and Brown line customers at the Belmont station must board and exit trains from the northbound Red Line side of the platform. Northbound Red Line customers at Belmont must board and exit trains from the northbound Brown Line side of the platform.
During these times, northbound Brown Line trains will make stops at Diversey and Wellington; however, southbound Brown Line trains will not stop at either station.

#19 United Center Express Serves Upcoming Events
CTA will operate its #19 United Center Express buses for the following events at the United Center:
- Friday, November 6 at 7:30 p.m. – KISS concert
- Saturday, November 7 at 7 p.m. – Charlotte Bobcats versus Bulls
- Monday, November 9 at 7 p.m. – Los Angeles Kings versus Blackhawks
- Tuesday, November 10 at 7 p.m. – Denver Nuggets versus Bulls
- Wednesday, November 11 at 7:30 p.m. – Colorado Avalanche versus Blackhawks
- Friday, November 13 at 7:30 p.m. – Toronto Maple Leafs versus Blackhawks
Buses will leave every 10 minutes from Michigan and Randolph beginning 90 minutes before the start of each event until the event begins. When the event ends, #19 buses will depart the United Center approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.
#19 buses no longer make stops along Michigan Avenue north of Randolph, but continue to make all stops on Madison from Wabash to Clinton. From Clinton, #19 buses run express to the United Center.
After each game, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3. On the return trip, #19 buses will operate east on Washington to Wacker, then head south to Monroe and east to Michigan, making all stops from Jefferson to Michigan before turning north on Michigan and making the final stop at Randolph.
CTA Provides Service for Bears Game
The #128 Soldier Field Express and #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express are convenient travel options for fans heading to the Bears game on Sunday, November 8 versus the Arizona Cardinals. Kickoff is at noon.
The #128 Soldier Field Express operates non-stop between the Ogilvie Transportation Center, Union Station and Soldier Field. Service will begin at approximately 9:30 a.m. After the game, buses will leave Soldier Field every few minutes for approximately one hour.
The fare for #128 buses is $1 for full-fare customers. The exact cash fare is required to receive the special rate.
In addition, Red, Orange and Green line trains serve customers traveling to and from Soldier Field via the Roosevelt station a few blocks west of the stadium.
Buses Rerouted
In anticipation of heavy traffic along Roosevelt and Lake Shore Drive due to the football game at Soldier Field, four CTA bus routes will be detoured from 10:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 8.
Southbound #6 Jackson Park Express and #10 Museum of Science & Industry buses will travel over their regular routes along Balbo to Michigan then will operate via Michigan, Cermak, King Drive, 31st Street to Lake Shore Drive and then resume their regular routes. Northbound #6 and #10 buses will travel the reverse route.
Southbound #14 Jeffery Express buses will operate over the regular route along Michigan past Balbo to Cermak then will operate via Cermak, King Drive, 31st Street to Lake Shore Drive and then resume the regular route. Northbound #14 buses will travel the reverse route.
Southbound #146 buses will travel over the regular route along Columbus to Lake Shore Drive then will operate via Lake Shore Drive, 18th Street to Museum Campus Drive and then resume the regular route.
Northbound #146 buses will travel over the regular route along Museum Campus Drive to Waldron then will operate via Waldron, Lake Shore Drive to Columbus and then resume the regular route.
New/Updated Changes in Bus Service
UPDATE: Westbound Lanes of Division Street Bridge Re-Opened
Effective immediately, westbound #70 Division and southbound #132 Goose Island Express buses have returned to their normal routing following the completion of work along the westbound lanes of the Division Street Bridge over the north branch of the Chicago River, between Halsted and Hooker.
Bus Stops Added Along the #20 Madison (Night Owl) Route
Currently in effect, westbound #20 Madison (Night Owl) buses are now serving the far side bus stop located on Lake Street at Oak Park Avenue. Eastbound #20 (Night Owl) buses are now serving the near side stop on Lake Street at Oak Park Avenue.
Reroute for Northbound #86 Narragansett/Ridgeland Buses
Currently in effect until 5 a.m. Friday, November 13, northbound #86 Narragansett/Ridgeland buses will be detoured due to street repairs at the intersection of Montrose/Narragansett. As a result of this detour, northbound #86 buses will not make stops on the Wright College Campus.
Northbound #86 buses will travel over the regular route along Narragansett past Wright College Drive to Montrose where they will make a near side service stop. From Narragansett/Montrose, buses will continue north along Narragansett over the regular route. Southbound #86 buses will travel over the regular route.
Temporary Reroute of #94 South California Buses Due to Painting of Viaduct
Currently in effect, California Avenue between 36th Place and 37th Place is closed to all traffic until 6 a.m. Tuesday, November 24, due to the painting of the Canadian National Railroad viaduct.
Northbound #94 South California buses will operate over the regular route along California to Pershing then will travel via Pershing, Archer, Western, 35th Street to California and then resume the regular route. Southbound #94 buses will travel the reverse route.
Daytime Reroute of #8 Halsted Buses on Saturday
Halsted Street between 39th Street and 41st Street will be closed to all traffic from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. Saturday, November 7, as crews pour concrete pillars as part of the Norfolk Southern Yard expansion.
Southbound #8 Halsted buses will travel over the regular route along Halsted to 39th Street then will operate via 39th Street, Wallace, 43rd Street to Halsted and then resume the regular route. Northbound #8 buses will travel the reverse route.
Temporary Relocation of South Terminal for #22 Clark Bus Route
Currently in effect until 6 a.m. Saturday, November 21, southbound #22 Clark buses will terminate at Clark/Polk instead of Clark/Harrison due to conduit installation work. Northbound #22 buses will depart from Polk/Dearborn and travel over the regular route.
Daytime Reroute in Effect for #151 Sheridan Buses This Weekend
Sheridan Road between Irving Park and Dakin will be closed to all traffic from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday, November 7 and then again during the same hours on Sunday, November 8, due to work associated with the replacement of rail ties on the elevated tracks.
During these hours, southbound #151 Sheridan buses will operate over the regular route along Sheridan to Irving Park then will travel via Irving Park, Broadway to West Sheridan and then resume the regular route. Northbound #151 buses will travel the reverse route.
Removal of Viaduct Structures Temporarily Detours #66 Chicago Buses
Chicago Avenue between Kolmar and Kilbourn will be closed to all traffic from 9 a.m. Monday, November 9 until 11:59 p.m. Sunday, November 22, due to the removal of two Union Pacific viaduct structures.
Westbound #66 Chicago buses will operate over the regular route along Chicago Avenue to Kostner then will travel via Kostner, Augusta, Kilpatrick to Chicago and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #66 buses will travel the reverse route.
Ongoing Bus Reroutes
Temporary Relocation of Bus Stop at Madison/Mayfield
The westbound near side stop at Madison/Mayfield has been relocated to a far side stop until Friday, November 20, due to a sewer main replacement project. This stop is served by #20 Madison and #X20 Washington/Madison buses.
Road Work at Maple/Church Detours Northbound #93 California/Dodge Buses
Until Sunday, November 22, northbound #93 California/Dodge buses are being rerouted from the area of Maple/Church due to a road construction project.
Northbound #93 buses will operate over the regular route along Emerson Street to Maple then will travel via Maple, Clark to Benson and then resume the regular route. Southbound #93 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick Buses Detoured Due to Water Main Project
Currently in effect until 3 p.m. Monday, November 30, Van Buren Street between Wells and Franklin is closed to all traffic due to a water main project.
Southbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses will travel over the regular route along Wells to Adams then will operate via Adams, Wacker to Van Buren and then resume the regular route along Van Buren. Northbound #11 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
Buses Rerouted Due to Construction on Milwaukee Avenue
Eastbound #81W West Lawrence and northbound #91 Austin buses are being rerouted until Monday, November 30, due to construction on Milwaukee Avenue between Gale and Montrose.
Eastbound #81W West Lawrence and northbound #91 Austin buses will travel over their regular routes to Lawrence/Milwaukee to a far side stop then will continue eastbound on Lawrence to Lipps, heading north on Lipps to enter the Jefferson Park bus terminal.
Westbound #81W and southbound #91 buses are not affected and will travel along their regular routes.
Temporary Relocation of Bus Stop at Lake Park/50th Street
Currently in effect until Tuesday, December 1, the northbound mid-block stop on Lake Park Avenue near 50th Street temporarily has been relocated approximately 100 feet north due to nearby construction work. This stop is served by #2 Hyde Park Express, #6 Jackson Park Express, #28 Stony Island and #X28 Stony Island Express buses.
Street and Sewer Repairs Detour #96 Lunt Buses
Lunt Avenue between California and Western is closed to all traffic until 7 a.m. Monday, December 14, due to a sewer repair and street resurfacing project.
Westbound #96 Lunt buses will travel over the regular route along Lunt to Western then will operate via Western, Touhy past California and then resume the regular route along Touhy. Eastbound #96 buses will travel the reverse route.
Northbound #24 Wentworth Buses Detoured Due to LaSalle Street Bridge Work
LaSalle Street between 28th and 26th streets is closed to all traffic until early-January 2010, due to the reconstruction of the LaSalle Street Bridge. Northbound #24 Wentworth buses will operate over the regular route along LaSalle to 31st Street then will travel via 31st Street, State, 26th Street to Wentworth and then resume the regular route. Southbound #24 buses will travel over the regular route.
Changes to #24 Wentworth Bus Stops
Due to the reconstruction of the LaSalle Street Bridge, the following changes have been made to bus stops served by #24 Wentworth buses:
- LaSalle/31st Street: the northbound far side stop has been relocated to a near side stop.
- Wentworth/26th Street: the northbound near side stop has been relocated to a westbound near side stop at 26th Street/Wentworth.
Southbound #36 Broadway and #145 Wilson/Michigan Express Buses Detoured at Van Buren/Wells
Until 10 p.m. Sunday, January 31, 2010, southbound #36 Broadway and #145 Wilson/Michigan Express buses are being rerouted from the area of Van Buren/Wells due to work associated with the Wacker Drive Reconstruction project.
Southbound #36 and #145 buses will travel over their regular routes along Van Buren Street to Clark then will operate via Clark, Congress, Wells to Harrison before turning to begin northbound service. Northbound #36 and #145 buses will travel east along Harrison over the regular route.
Lane Restrictions near State and Grand Detour #29 State and #65 Grand Buses
Due to lane restrictions associated with the Grand/State Red Line rehabilitation project at the northwest corner of State Street and Grand Avenue, #29 State and #36 Broadway buses are being detoured to adjacent streets. These changes in service are expected to remain in place until April 2010.
Southbound #29 State buses will operate over the regular route along Grand past State to Clark then will travel via Clark, Illinois to State and then resume the regular route.
Northbound #29 buses are able to travel on the remaining open lane along State and will operate over its regular route.
Southbound #36 Broadway buses will travel over the regular route along State to Ontario then will operate via Ontario, Clark, Illinois to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along Dearborn past Illinois to Ohio then will travel via Ohio to State and then resume the regular route.
14 CTA Bus Routes Affected Due to Jackson Viaduct Work

Temporary Relocation of #93 California/Dodge Bus Stop
Currently in effect until Thursday, May 27, 2010, the southbound curb-side lane of California Avenue at Granville is closed to all traffic due to construction. As a result of this lane closure, the southbound near side stop at California/Granville served by #93 California/Dodge buses temporarily has been relocated approximately 175 feet north.
