Events Affecting CTA Service Beginning The Weekend of November 25 - December 2

CTA Holiday Train

Now in its 20th year, the festive CTA Holiday Train will make its first appearance Friday, November 25, spreading holiday cheer to CTA customers.
 
Debuting on the Green Line, the Holiday Train will travel along all CTA rail lines throughout November and December as part of its regular rail service. Normal CTA fares apply.
 
The train will run between approximately 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. on weekends and 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. on select weekdays (schedules for each individual line will vary), and will make stops at all stations along the respective routes.

Blue Line Events Affecting Rail Service

Trains Operating on the Same Tracks at the Harlem Station

All late night Blue Line trains will be routed to operate on the southbound (to Forest Park) tracks at the Harlem station from 11 p.m. Sunday, November 27 until 4 a.m. the following morning, due to track maintenance work.
 
Customers at the Harlem station traveling northbound (to O’Hare) must board and exit trains from the southbound (to Forest Park) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 
Next Week
From 11 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Monday night, November 28 through Friday morning, December 2, as track maintenance work continues.
 
During these times, customers at the Harlem station traveling northbound (to O’Hare) must board and exit trains from the southbound (to Forest Park) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

New/Temporary Changes in Bus Service

 

Holiday Hours in Effect on #10 Museum of Science & Industry Bus Route

With the exception of Saturday, December 25, hours of operation along the #10 Museum of Science & Industry route will be extended on select dates through Friday, December 31, 2011. 
 
The Museum of Science & Industry will offer extended hours – open from 9:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from 11 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. on Sundays – on the following dates:
 
  • Friday, November 25 through Sunday, November 27
  • Saturday, December 3 and Sunday, December 4
  • Saturday, December 10 and Sunday, December 11
  • Saturday, December 17 through Friday, December 23
  • Sunday, December 26 through Friday, December 31
 
The museum is closed on Christmas Day, Saturday, December 25.
 
On the dates listed above, service on the #10 will begin operating from Chestnut/Mies van der Rohe each morning approximately 30 minutes prior to the Museum of Science & Industry opening and the last bus departs from the museum approximately 30 minutes after closing.
 

Temporary Reroute of #26 South Shore Express and #30 South Chicago Buses for Bridge Repairs

Effective Monday, November 28, 2011 at 9 a.m. until Thursday, December 22, 2011 at 3 p.m. the 92nd Street (Ewing) Bridge over the Calumet River will be closed to all vehicular traffic due to emergency bridge repairs.
 
Southbound #26 South Shore Express and #30 South Chicago buses will follow their regular route to 91st/Mackinaw and head south on Mackinaw to Harbor to South Chicago. Buses will then turn southeast on South Chicago to 95th and head east towards Ewing where buses will then head south on Ewing to return to their respective regular routes.
 
Northbound #26 South Shore Express and #30 South Chicago buses will operate their regular route to Ewing/95th to South Chicago and head northwest to Harbor. On Harbor buses will head southeast to Mackinaw and travel north to 91st where they will head west on 91st and return to their respective regular routes.

 

Temporary Re-route of #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick and #49B North Western for Lincoln Square Christkindl Market event

Effective Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at 10 a.m. until Monday, December 5, 2011 at 5 p.m. the Western/Leland bus terminal will be closed to all vehicular traffic.
 
Northbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses will operate on the regular route to Leland/Western-Leland Terminal entrance and continue west on Leland to Western and north on Western and continue over the regular route.
 
Southbound #49B North Western buses will operate the regular route to Leland/Western-Leland Terminal entrance and continue east on Leland to Lincoln to Wilson. The route will then continue east on Wilson to Western and north on Western to Leland.
 
Northbound #49B North Western buses at their scheduled time will continue north on Western over the regular route.
 

Temporary Removal of #29 State Bus Stop at State/Pershing

Currently in effect until Friday, June 1, 2012, the southbound far side stop at State/Pershing has been removed from service due to nearby construction work. Customers are advised to board southbound #29 buses one block south at 40th Street.
 
 

Ongoing Bus Service Changes

Detour of #111 Pullman/111th/115th Buses for Bridge Repairs Extended

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Wednesday, November 30, #111 Pullman/111th/115th buses are being detoured from Cottage Grove between 98th Street and 100th Place due to bridge repair work.
 
Southbound #111 buses are traveling over the regular route along 95th Street to King Drive then operating via King Drive, 100th Street to Cottage Grove and resuming the regular route. Northbound #111 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Construction Detours #20 Madison and #90 Harlem Buses Until December

Currently in effect until Friday, December 2, eastbound #20 Madison (Owl service) buses and #90 Harlem buses are being detoured due to the closure of North Boulevard and South Boulevard between Marion and Home for a construction project.
 
Eastbound #20 (Owl service) buses are operating over the regular route along Harlem past North Boulevard to Washington then are traveling via Washington, Maple, Randolph, Harlem to Lake and resuming the regular route. Westbound #20 (Owl service) buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 
Southbound #90 buses are traveling over the regular route along Harlem past North Boulevard to Washington then are operating via Washington, Maple, Randolph, Harlem to Harlem/South Boulevard before beginning northbound service. From Harlem/South Boulevard, northbound #90 buses are traveling north on Harlem over the regular route.
 

Temporary Relocation of #8 Halsted Bus Stop Due to Bridge Work

Currently in effect until Thursday, December 22, the southbound far side stop at Halsted/North Branch served by #8 Halsted buses has been relocated to a near side stop on North Branch at Halsted. The new temporary location is also served by #132 Goose Island Express buses.
 
Changes in Service along #8 Halsted Route for Bridge Reconstruction Project
Currently in effect until late-December 2011, Halsted Street between Division and the north branch of the Chicago River is closed due to a bridge reconstruction project.
 
Northbound #8 Halsted buses are traveling over the regular route along Halsted past Chicago to North Branch then are operating via North Branch, Cherry, Division to Halsted and then resuming the regular route. Southbound #8 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 
Changes to Bus Stops
  • Halsted/North Branch: the northbound far side stop on Halsted has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop on North Branch at Halsted.
  • Halsted/Division: the southbound far side stop has been temporarily relocated to a near side stop.
 
Temporary Bus Stop Changes due to Madison Street Viaduct Project
Currently in effect until approximately 3 p.m. Saturday, December 31, the following bus stop changes are in effect due to the Madison Street viaduct project. These changes are affecting service along seven routes.
 
  • Canal/Madison: the northbound far side stop will be removed from service. This stop is served by #60 Blue Island/26th, #124 Navy Pier, #125 Water Tower Express, #129 West Loop/South Loop (PM service only), #130 Museum Campus, #132 Goose Island Express and #157 Streeterville/Taylor buses.
  • Canal/Washington: a temporary northbound near side stop will be added. This stop will be served by #132 buses.
 

Temporary Reroute in Effect for #24 Wentworth Buses Operating to 87th/Racine

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Tuesday, January 31, 2012, #24 Wentworth buses operating to 87th/Racine are being detoured due to the closure of Vincennes Avenue between 84th Street and Givins for sewer repair work.
 
Southbound #24 buses (operating to 87th/Racine) are traveling over the regular route along Vincennes to 83rd Streert then are operating via 83rd Street, Princeton, Holland, 87th Street and are resuming the regular route west on 87th Street past Vincennes. Northbound #24 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 
Service Changes to 14 Downtown Bus Routes for Stage II of Wacker Drive Project
Currently in effect, changes in service have been made to 14 CTA bus routes that operate in the downtown area near Wacker Drive and Madison due to work associated with Stage II of the Wacker Drive construction project.
 

Construction on Wacker Drive will result in changes along the following routes:

Service Adjustments Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project

Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project, Franklin Street between Harrison and Van Buren and Lower Wacker Drive between Randolph and Harrison are closed until May 2012. As a result of these closures and other street reconfigurations, the following changes in bus service currently are in effect:
 
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
Northbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses are traveling over the regular route along Harrison to Canal then are operating via Canal, Jackson to Franklin and resuming the regular route. Southbound #11 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 
 

The following temporary changes also have been made to bus stops served by northbound #11 buses:

 
  • Canal/Harrison: a far side stop has been added to service.
  • Canal/Jackson: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Jackson at the Chicago River: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • 404 W. Harrison: the mid-block stop has been removed from service.
  • Franklin/Van Buren: the far side stop has been removed from service.
 
#121 Union/Wacker Express
Northbound #121 Union/Wacker Express buses are operating over the regular route along Jackson past Wacker to Franklin then are traveling via Franklin, Lake, Post Place to Lower Wacker and then resuming the regular route.
 
Southbound #121 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand to Wabash then traveling via Wabash, Wacker, Franklin to Adams and then resuming the regular route.
 
#135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express buses are traveling south on Wacker to Jackson then are traveling east on Jackson past Franklin and resuming the regular route.
 

The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #135 buses:

 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express buses are operating south on Wacker to Van Buren then are traveling via Van Buren, Canal to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #136 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#156 LaSalle (PM Service Only)
During the evening rush period only, northbound #156 LaSalle buses departing from Union Station are traveling west on Van Buren to Wacker then are operating via Wacker to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 

The following temporary bus stop change has been made and is in effect for northbound #156 buses during the evening rush period only: 

 
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 

Temporary Relocation of Bus Stop at Lake Park/53rd Street

Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Thursday, May 2, 2013, the southbound near side stop at Lake Park/53rd Street has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction work. This stop is served by #6 Jackson Park Express, #X28 Stony Island Express and #171 U of C/Hyde Park buses.
 

Relocation of #36 Broadway Bus Stop Due to Nearby Construction

Currently in effect until Friday, July 12, 2013, the southbound near side stop at Broadway/Elmdale served by #36 Broadway buses has been relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction.
 

Removal of Bus Stop Change Affects Five Routes

Currently in effect until Thursday, August 1, 2013, the mid-block bus stop located at 5800 South on Stony Island has been temporarily removed due to construction. This stop is served by the #2 Hyde Park Express, #6 Jackson Park Express, #15 Jeffery Local, #28 Stony Island and #X28 Stony Island buses.
