Events Affecting CTA Service Beginning the Weekend of November 20-22

NOTE: CTA will operate on a Sunday/holiday schedule on Thursday, November 26 —Thanksgiving Day. Bus and rail service will operate on a normal weekday schedule on Friday, November 27.
 

Blue Line – Slow Zone Work

Single Track in Effect between the Racine and Illinois Medical District Stations

Blue Line trains will operate normal service through the Dearborn subway this weekend; however, a late night single track will be in effect for westbound trains between the Racine and Illinois Medical District stations on the Forest Park branch from 6 p.m. Sunday, November 22 until 4 a.m. the following morning.
 
Westbound Blue Line customers at the Racine and Illinois Medical District stations must board and exit trains from the eastbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Late Night Single Track in Effect between the UIC-Halsted and LaSalle Stations

A late night single track will be in effect for eastbound Blue Line trains between the UIC-Halsted and LaSalle stations on the Forest Park branch from 10 p.m. Monday, November 23 until 4 a.m. the following morning.
 
Eastbound Blue Line customers at the UIC-Halsted, Clinton and LaSalle stations must board and exit trains from the westbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 
Tuesday Night – Westbound
From 10 p.m. Tuesday, November 24 until 4 a.m. the following morning, a late night single track will be in effect for westbound Blue Line trains between the LaSalle and UIC-Halsted stations on the Forest Park branch.
 
Westbound Blue Line customers at the LaSalle, Clinton and UIC-Halsted stations must board and exit trains from the eastbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Eastbound Trains Undergo Single Track at the Cicero and Pulaski Stations

Eastbound Blue Line trains will undergo a late night single track between the Cicero and Pulaski stations on the Forest Park branch from 9 p.m. Wednesday, November 25 until 4 a.m. the following morning.
 
Eastbound Blue Line customers at the Cicero and Pulaski stations must board and exit trains from the westbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Blue Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Northbound Trains Undergo a Single Track on the O’Hare Branch Friday Night

A three-phase single track will be in effect for northbound Blue Line trains between the Logan Square and Addison stations on the O’Hare branch beginning Friday night due to signal upgrade work.
 
Phase I – at Belmont and Addison
From 10 p.m. until midnight on Friday, November 20, northbound Blue Line customers at the Belmont and Addison stations must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.
 
Phase II – at Logan Square, Belmont and Addison
From 12:01 a.m. until 4 a.m. Saturday, November 21, northbound Blue Line customers at the Logan Square, Belmont and Addison stations must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.
 
Phase III – at Logan Square
From 4 a.m. until 7 a.m. Saturday, northbound Blue Line customers at the Logan Square station must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Three-Phase Late Single Track in Effect for Southbound Trains Saturday Night

Signal upgrade work continues along the O’Hare branch with a three-phase late night single track in effect for southbound Blue Line trains beginning Saturday night.
 
Phase I – at Addison and Belmont
From 10 p.m. until midnight Saturday, November 21, southbound Blue Line customers at the Addison and Belmont stations must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.
 
Phase II – at Addison, Belmont and Logan Square
From 12:01 a.m. until 4 a.m. Sunday, November 22, southbound Blue Line customers at the Addison, Belmont and Logan Square stations must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.
 
Phase III – at Logan Square
From 4 a.m. until 10 a.m. Sunday, southbound Blue Line customers at the Logan Square station must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Green Line – Slow Zone Work

Northbound Trains Undergo a Daytime Single Track at the Halsted Station

A daytime single track will be in effect for northbound Green Line trains at the Halsted station on the Ashland/63rd branch from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. each day on Tuesday, November 24, Wednesday, November 25 and Friday, November 27.
 
During these times, northbound Green Line customers at the Halsted station must board and exit trains from the southbound platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Red Line – Slow Zone Work

Trains Rerouted at the Sheridan Station Next Week

Northbound and southbound Red Line trains will be rerouted at the Sheridan station from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. each day on Tuesday, November 24, Wednesday, November 25 and Friday, November 27, while crews replace deteriorated rail ties, tie plates and spikes.
 
During this time, northbound and southbound Red Line trains will operate on the Purple Express tracks. Customers at the Sheridan station must board and exit trains from the outer platforms instead of the inner platforms.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
 

Southbound Trains Unable to Stop at Granville, Thorndale and Bryn Mawr This Weekend

Southbound Red Line trains temporarily will be unable to stop at the Granville, Thorndale and Bryn Mawr stations from 10 p.m. Friday, November 20 until 6 p.m. Saturday, November 21, due to track maintenance work. Northbound Red Line service is not affected.
 
During this time, southbound Red Line customers who want to exit at Granville, Thorndale or Bryn Mawr should travel to Berwyn and board a northbound train to the appropriate station. Customers at Granville, Thorndale or Bryn Mawr who want to travel south should board a northbound train to Loyola to access a southbound train.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
 

Brown Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Daytime Reroute of Southbound Brown Line Trains at Fullerton Next Week

Due to work associated with installation of panels at the Fullerton station, southbound Brown Line trains temporarily will be rerouted to operate on the southbound Red Line tracks from approximately 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. each day beginning Monday, November 23 through Wednesday, November 25.
 
During these times, southbound Brown Line customers at the Fullerton station must board and exit trains from the southbound Red Line side of the platform.
 
Red Line customers and northbound Brown Line customers are not affected and will board and exit trains from their regular sides of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the route of each train.
 

Red/Brown Lines – Other Events Affecting Service

Late Night Reroute of Southbound Trains at Fullerton Friday Night and Next Week

A reroute will be in effect for southbound Red and Brown line trains at the Fullerton station this Friday and next week due to work on the platform canopies. Southbound Red and Brown line trains temporarily will be rerouted to operate on the northbound Red Line tracks from 8 p.m. Friday, November 20 until 4 a.m. the following morning and then again during the same hours each night beginning Monday, November 23 through Thursday, morning, November 26.
 
Southbound Red and Brown line customers at the Fullerton station must board and exit trains from the northbound Red Line side of the platform. Northbound Red Line customers at this station must board and exit trains from the northbound Brown Line side of the platform.
 
During these times, northbound Brown line trains will make stops at Diversey and Wellington; however, southbound Brown Line trains will not stop at either station.
 
Southbound Brown Line customers who want to exit at Wellington or Diversey should ride to Fullerton and transfer to a northbound train to their respective station. Customers at Wellington and Diversey who want to travel south should take a northbound train to Belmont and transfer to a southbound train.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the route and direction of each train.
 

Additional Service for Special Events

Longer Purple Line Trains for Northwestern Wildcats Football on Saturday

The Northwestern Wildcats host the Wisconsin Badgers at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, November 21. Longer Purple Line trains will begin operating at approximately 1 p.m. and continue after the game as crowds warrant. Ryan Field is just west of the Purple Line’s Central station in Evanston.
 

CTA Provides Service for Bears Game

The #128 Soldier Field Express and #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express are convenient travel options for fans heading to the Bears game on Sunday, November 22 versus the Philadelphia Eagles. Kickoff is at 7:20 p.m.
 
The #128 Soldier Field Express operates non-stop between the Ogilvie Transportation Center, Union Station and Soldier Field. Service will begin at approximately 4:45 p.m. After the game, buses will leave Soldier Field every few minutes for approximately one hour.
 
The fare for #128 buses is $1 for full-fare customers. The exact cash fare is required to receive the special rate.
 
In addition, Red, Orange and Green line trains serve customers traveling to and from Soldier Field via the Roosevelt station a few blocks west of the stadium.
 
Buses Rerouted
In anticipation of heavy traffic along Roosevelt and Lake Shore Drive due to the football game at Soldier Field, four CTA bus routes will be detoured from approximately 5:50 p.m. until approximately 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 22.
 
Southbound #6 Jackson Park Express and #10 Museum of Science & Industry buses will travel over their regular routes along Balbo to Michigan then will operate via Michigan, Cermak, King Drive, 31st Street to Lake Shore Drive and then resume their regular routes. Northbound #6 and #10 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Southbound #14 Jeffery Express buses will operate over the regular route along Michigan past Balbo to Cermak then will operate via Cermak, King Drive, 31st Street to Lake Shore Drive and then resume the regular route. Northbound #14 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Southbound #146 buses will travel over the regular route along Columbus to Lake Shore Drive then will operate via Lake Shore Drive, 18th Street to Museum Campus Drive and then resume the regular route.
 
Northbound #146 buses will travel over the regular route along Museum Campus Drive to Waldron then will operate via Waldron, Lake Shore Drive to Columbus and then resume the regular route.

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

Set-up for the Magnificent Mile Lights Festival Detours Two CTA Bus Routes

From 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. Saturday, November 21, Dearborn Street between Delaware and Oak; Delaware Place between Dearborn and Clark; and Walton Street between State and Clark will be closed due to set-up work for the Magnificent Mile Lights Festival.
 
During these hours, northbound #22 Clark buses will travel over the regular route along Dearborn to Chicago then will operate via Chicago, LaSalle, Division to Clark and then resume the regular route. Southbound #22 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 
Eastbound #70 Division buses will operate over the regular route along Division to LaSalle before turning to begin westbound service. Westbound #70 buses will depart from Division/Clark and continue west along Division over the regular route.
 

Buses Detoured and Service Increased for Saturday’s Magnificent Mile Lights Festival

Ten CTA bus routes will be detoured off North Michigan Avenue on Saturday, November 21, for the annual Magnificent Mile Lights Festival. The festival motorcade is scheduled to step off at 5:30 p.m. from Rush and Oak and will travel south on Michigan Avenue to Wacker Drive. Routes that will be detoured to adjacent streets are:

Immediately following the parade will be a fireworks display which will be visible along the Chicago River between Michigan Avenue and Columbus Drive.
 
Additional Service
In addition, more frequent service will be provided on the Red Line. Longer trains will operate on the Pink, Brown and Orange lines.

CTA’s Holiday Train Debuts on Saturday

Now in its 18th year, the festive CTA Holiday Train will make its first appearance Saturday, November 21, spreading holiday cheer to CTA customers.
 
Debuting on the Red and Purple Lines, the Holiday Train will travel along all CTA rail lines throughout November and December as part of its regular rail service. Normal CTA fares apply.
 
The train will run between approximately 2 p.m. and 9 p.m. on weekends and 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. on select weekdays (schedules for each individual line will vary), and will make stops at all stations along the respective routes.

Holiday Hours in Effect on #10 Museum of Science & Industry Bus Route

With the exception of December 25, hours of operation along the #10 Museum of Science & Industry route will be extended beginning Friday, November 20 through Thursday, December 31, 2009. 
 
Service on the #10 will begin operating from Chestnut/Lake Shore Drive each morning approximately 30 minutes prior to the Museum of Science & Industry opening and the last bus will depart from the museum approximately 30 minutes after closing.
 
Also during this time, the Museum of Science & Industry will offer extended hours – open from 9:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from 11 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. on Sundays – on the following dates:
 
  • Friday, November 20 through Sunday, November 22
  • Friday, November 27 through Sunday, November 29
  • Saturday, December 5 and Sunday, December 6
  • Saturday, December 12 and Sunday, December 13
  • Saturday, December 19 through Thursday, December 24
  • Saturday, December 26 through Thursday, December 31
 
The museum is closed on Christmas Day, Friday, December 25.
 

Temporary Relocation of Bus Stops at Roosevelt/Racine

Currently in effect until Friday, December 4, the following bus stops temporarily will be relocated due to sidewalk reconstruction work at the corner of Roosevelt/Racine:
 
#12 Roosevelt
The eastbound near side stop on Roosevelt at Racine served by #12 Roosevelt buses has been temporarily relocated approximately 300 feet west and will become a mid-block stop between Lytle and Racine.
 
#60 Blue Island/26th
The southbound far side stop on Racine at Roosevelt served by #60 Blue Island/26th buses has been temporarily relocated to a near side stop.
 

Changes to Bus Stops Effective Monday

Effective at the start of service on Monday, November 23, the following changes will be made to bus stops along the #8A South Halsted and #79 79th Street bus routes:

  • 79th Street/Eggleston: the southbound and northbound near side stops will be removed from service.
  • 79th Street/Emerald: the southbound near side stop will be removed from service.
  • 79th Street/Lowe: the northbound near side stop will be removed from service.
  • 79th Street/Vincennes: the northbound near side stop will be relocated to a far side stop.

Changes to Bus Stops Effective Tuesday

Effective at the start of service on Tuesday, November 24, the following changes will be made to bus stops along the #8 Halsted, #18 16th/18th, #68 Northwest Highway, #77 Belmont and #85 Central routes.
 
#8 Halsted
The southbound near side stop at Halsted/Roosevelt will be relocated to a far side stop.
 
#18 16th/18th
Westbound #18 buses will begin serving the far side stop at Halsted/Roosevelt. This stop also is currently served by #8 buses.
 
#68 Northwest Highway
The southbound far side stop at Northwest Highway/Central will be relocated to a near side stop.
 
#77 Belmont
The westbound near side stop at Belmont/Overhill will be relocated to a far side stop.
 
#85 Central
The northbound near side stop at Central/Chicago will be relocated to a far side stop.
 

Construction Work at the Fullerton Station Detours #11 and #74 Buses

Due to work associated with the Brown Line capacity expansion project, Fullerton Avenue at the Red/Brown Line station will be closed to all traffic from 10 p.m. Tuesday, November 24 until 5 a.m. the following morning.
 
Southbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses will operate over the regular route along Lincoln past Sheffield to Fullerton where they will make a near side service stop and then will continue southeast on Lincoln over the regular route.
 
Northbound #11 buses will travel over the regular route along Lincoln to Fullerton where they will make a far side stop then will continue northwest along Lincoln and resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #74 Fullerton buses will travel over the regular route along Fullerton to Sheffield where they will make a near side service stop. Buses will travel south on Sheffield to Webster then will operate via Webster, Lincoln, Sheffield to Fullerton.
 
Westbound service along the #74 route will begin at Fullerton/Sheffield and buses will continue west on Fullerton over the regular route.
 

#68 Northwest Highway Buses Rerouted for Annual Edison Park Turkey Trot

On Thursday, November 26 from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., Northwest Highway will be closed between Ottawa and Oshkosh due to the annual Edison Park Turkey Trot.
 
Northbound #68 Northwest Highway buses will travel over the regular route along Northwest Highway to Devon then will operate via Devon, Canfield/Ozark to Northwest Highway and then resume the regular route. Southbound #68 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

#76 Diversey and #151 Sheridan Buses Detoured for the Lincoln Park Turkey Trot

On Thursday, November 26 from 6 a.m. to noon, the #76 Diversey and #151 Sheridan buses will be temporarily detoured due to street closures for The Turkey Trot in Lincoln Park.
 
Eastbound #76 Diversey buses will operate over the regular route along Diversey to Sheridan then will operate via Sheridan, Belmont, Lake Shore Drive West to Diversey and then resume the regular route. Westbound #76 buses are not affected and will operate over the regular route.
 
Southbound #151 Sheridan buses will operate over the regular route along Sheridan and will continue south until Sheridan turns into Lakeview Avenue. Buses then will travel via Lakeview, Fullerton, Lincoln Park West, Clark, LaSalle to Inner Lake Shore Drive and then resume the regular route. Northbound #151 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Ongoing Bus Reroutes

Temporary Relocation of South Terminal for #22 Clark Bus Route

Currently in effect until 6 a.m. Saturday, November 21, southbound #22 Clark buses will terminate at Clark/Polk instead of Clark/Harrison due to conduit installation work. Northbound #22 buses will depart from Polk/Dearborn and travel over the regular route.
 

Removal of Viaduct Structures Temporarily Detours #66 Chicago Buses

Chicago Avenue between Kolmar and Kilbourn is closed to all traffic until 11:59 p.m. Sunday, November 22, due to the removal of two Union Pacific viaduct structures.
 
Westbound #66 Chicago buses will operate over the regular route along Chicago Avenue to Kostner then will travel via Kostner, Augusta, Kilpatrick to Chicago and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #66 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Road Work at Maple/Church Detours Northbound #93 California/Dodge Buses

Until Sunday, November 22, northbound #93 California/Dodge buses are being rerouted from the area of Maple/Church due to a road construction project.
 
Northbound #93 buses will operate over the regular route along Emerson Street to Maple then will travel via Maple, Clark to Benson and then resume the regular route. Southbound #93 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 

Temporary Reroute of #94 South California Buses Due to Painting of Viaduct

Currently in effect, California Avenue between 36th Place and 37th Place is closed to all traffic until 6 a.m. Tuesday, November 24, due to the painting of the Canadian National Railroad viaduct.
 
Northbound #94 South California buses will operate over the regular route along California to Pershing then will travel via Pershing, Archer, Western, 35th Street to California and then resume the regular route. Southbound #94 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick Buses Detoured Due to Water Main Project

Currently in effect until 3 p.m. Monday, November 30, Van Buren Street between Wells and Franklin is closed to all traffic due to a water main project.
 
Southbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses will travel over the regular route along Wells to Adams then will operate via Adams, Wacker to Van Buren and then resume the regular route along Van Buren. Northbound #11 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 
 

Buses Rerouted Due to Construction on Milwaukee Avenue

Eastbound #81W West Lawrence and northbound #91 Austin buses are being rerouted until Monday, November 30, due to construction on Milwaukee Avenue between Gale and Montrose.
 
Eastbound #81W West Lawrence and northbound #91 Austin buses will travel over their regular routes to Lawrence/Milwaukee to a far side stop then will continue eastbound on Lawrence to Lipps, heading north on Lipps to enter the Jefferson Park bus terminal.
 
Westbound #81W and southbound #91 buses are not affected and will travel along their regular routes.
 

Temporary Relocation of Bus Stop at Lake Park/50th Street

Currently in effect until Tuesday, December 1, the northbound mid-block stop on Lake Park Avenue near 50th Street temporarily has been relocated approximately 100 feet north due to nearby construction work. This stop is served by #2 Hyde Park Express, #6 Jackson Park Express, #28 Stony Island and #X28 Stony Island Express buses.
 

Street and Sewer Repairs Detour #96 Lunt Buses

Lunt Avenue between California and Western is closed to all traffic until 7 a.m. Monday, December 14, due to a sewer repair and street resurfacing project.
 
Westbound #96 Lunt buses will travel over the regular route along Lunt to Western then will operate via Western, Touhy past California and then resume the regular route along Touhy. Eastbound #96 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Northbound #24 Wentworth Buses Detoured Due to LaSalle Street Bridge Work

LaSalle Street between 28th and 26th streets is closed to all traffic until early-January 2010, due to the reconstruction of the LaSalle Street Bridge. Northbound #24 Wentworth buses will operate over the regular route along LaSalle to 31st Street then will travel via 31st Street, State, 26th Street to Wentworth and then resume the regular route. Southbound #24 buses will travel over the regular route.
 
Changes to #24 Wentworth Bus Stops
Due to the reconstruction of the LaSalle Street Bridge, the following changes have been made to bus stops served by #24 Wentworth buses:
 
  • LaSalle/31st Street: the northbound far side stop has been relocated to a near side stop.
  • Wentworth/26th Street: the northbound near side stop has been relocated to a westbound near side stop at 26th Street/Wentworth.
 

Southbound #36 Broadway and #145 Wilson/Michigan Express Buses Detoured at Van Buren/Wells

Until 10 p.m. Sunday, January 31, 2010, southbound #36 Broadway and #145 Wilson/Michigan Express buses are being rerouted from the area of Van Buren/Wells due to work associated with the Wacker Drive Reconstruction project.
 
Southbound #36 and #145 buses will travel over their regular routes along Van Buren Street to Clark then will operate via Clark, Congress, Wells to Harrison before turning to begin northbound service. Northbound #36 and #145 buses will travel east along Harrison over the regular route.
 

Lane Restrictions near State and Grand Detour #29 State and #65 Grand Buses

Due to lane restrictions associated with the Grand/State Red Line rehabilitation project at the northwest corner of State Street and Grand Avenue, #29 State and #36 Broadway buses are being detoured to adjacent streets. These changes in service are expected to remain in place until April 2010.
 
Southbound #29 State buses will operate over the regular route along Grand past State to Clark then will travel via Clark, Illinois to State and then resume the regular route.
 
Northbound #29 buses are able to travel on the remaining open lane along State and will operate over its regular route.
 
Southbound #36 Broadway buses will travel over the regular route along State to Ontario then will operate via Ontario, Clark, Illinois to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along Dearborn past Illinois to Ohio then will travel via Ohio to State and then resume the regular route.
 

Temporary Removal of #66 Chicago Bus Stop

Currently in effect, the eastbound near side stop at Chicago/Clark served by #66 Chicago buses temporarily has been removed from service until Friday, April 30, 2010, due to construction.
 

14 CTA Bus Routes Affected Due to Jackson Viaduct Work

Due to the reconstruction of the Jackson Boulevard viaduct between Canal and Wacker, changes in service along 14 CTA bus routes are expected to remain in place until April 2010. The following CTA bus routes are being rerouted to adjacent streets:

Temporary Relocation of #93 California/Dodge Bus Stop

Currently in effect until Thursday, May 27, 2010, the southbound curb-side lane of California Avenue at Granville is closed to all traffic due to construction. As a result of this lane closure, the southbound near side stop at California/Granville served by #93 California/Dodge buses temporarily has been relocated approximately 175 feet north.
 

Temporary Removal of #29 State Bus Stop at State/Pershing

Due to an underground construction project, the southbound far side stop at State/Pershing served by #29 State buses has been removed from service until Sunday, May 1, 2011.
