Events Affecting CTA Service Beginning the Weekend of November 19-21

NOTE: CTA will operate on a Sunday/holiday schedule on Thursday, November 25 —Thanksgiving Day. Bus and rail service will operate on a normal weekday schedule on Friday, November 26.
 

Blue Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Sunday Night: Two-Phase Single Track Operation in Effect between Harlem and Cumberland

A two-phase single track operation will be in effect for all late night Blue Line trains operating between the Harlem and Cumberland stations beginning Sunday night, November 21, due to track maintenance work along the O’Hare branch.
 
Phase I – at Cumberland
From 10 p.m. Sunday, November 21 until midnight, Blue Line customers at the Cumberland station traveling northbound (to O’Hare) must board and exit trains from the southbound (to Forest Park) side of the platform.
 
Phase II – at Harlem and Cumberland
From 12:01 a.m. until 4 a.m. Monday, November 22, Blue Line customers at the Harlem and Cumberland stations traveling northbound (to O’Hare) must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Monday Night: Two-Phase Single Track Operation in Effect between Cumberland and Harlem

Track maintenance along the O’Hare branch continues, resulting in a two-phase single track operation in effect for all late night Blue Line trains operating between the Cumberland and Harlem stations beginning Monday night, November 22.
 
Phase I – at Cumberland
From 10 p.m. Monday, November 22 until midnight, Blue Line customers at the Cumberland station traveling southbound (to Forest Park) must board and exit trains from the northbound (to O’Hare) side of the platform.
 
Phase II – at Cumberland and Harlem
From 12:01 a.m. until 4 a.m. Tuesday, November 23, Blue Line customers at the Cumberland and Harlem stations traveling southbound (to Forest Park) must board and exit trains from the northbound side (to O’Hare) of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

All Blue Line Trains to Operate on the Southbound Tracks at Harlem

A late night single track operation will be in effect for all Blue Line trains serving the Harlem station on the O’Hare branch from 10 p.m. Tuesday, November 23 until 4 a.m. the following morning, due to track maintenance.
 
Blue Line customers at the Harlem station traveling northbound (to O’Hare) must board and exit trains from the southbound (to Forest Park) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 
Wednesday Night – Trains Operating on Northbound Tracks
From 10 p.m. Wednesday, November 24 until 4 a.m. the following morning, all Blue Line trains serving the Harlem station on the O’Hare branch will be routed to operate on the northbound (to O’Hare) tracks as track maintenance work continues.
 
Customers at the Harlem station traveling southbound (to Forest Park) must board and exit Blue Line trains from the northbound (to O’Hare) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Red Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Late Night Single Track Operations in Effect at Cermak-Chinatown on Friday Night

Southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) Red Line trains will be routed to operate on the northbound (to Howard) tracks from 11 p.m. Friday, November 19 until 6 a.m. the following morning, due to tie renewal work.
 
Red Line customers at the Cermak-Chinatown station traveling southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) must board and exit trains from the northbound (to Howard) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Trains Routed to Operate on Same Track Due to Escalator Removal Work at Grand

All Red Line trains will be routed to operate on the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) tracks between the Grand and North/Clybourn stations from 11 p.m. Saturday, November 20 until 5 a.m. the following morning, due to the removal of an escalator at the Grand station.
 
Red Line customers at the Grand and Chicago stations traveling northbound (to Howard) must board and exit trains from the southbound platform.
 
Customers at the Clark/Division station traveling northbound (to Howard) must board and exit Red Line trains from the southbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Late Night Trains to Operate on the Same Tracks at the 47th Street Station

All late night Red Line trains will be routed to operate on the northbound (to Howard) tracks at the 47th Street station from 11 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Sunday night, November 21 through Thursday morning, November 25, due to track maintenance work.
 
During these times, Red Line customers at the 47th Street station traveling southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) must board and exit trains from the northbound (to Howard) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Service for Upcoming Events

Service to Northwestern and Illinois College Football Game at Wrigley Field

CTA provides an affordable and convenient travel option for fans heading to Wrigley Field on Saturday, November 20 for the Northwestern Allstate Wrigley Field Classic featuring the Wildcats versus the Fighting Illini. Kickoff is at 2:30 p.m.

Set-up for the Magnificent Mile Lights Festival Detours Two CTA Bus Routes

From 5:45 a.m. until 9:30 p.m. Saturday, November 20, #70 Division and northbound #22 Clark buses will be detoured due to the closure of Dearborn Street between Delaware and Oak; Delaware Place between Dearborn and Clark; and Walton Street between State and Clark for the set-up, duration and clean-up of the Magnificent Mile Lights Festival.
 
During these hours, northbound #22 Clark buses will travel over the regular route along Dearborn to Chicago then will operate via Chicago, LaSalle, Division to Clark and then resume the regular route. Southbound #22 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 
Eastbound #70 Division buses will operate over the regular route along Division to LaSalle before turning to begin westbound service. Westbound #70 buses will depart from Division/Clark and continue west along Division over the regular route.
 

Service Changes for Saturday’s Magnificent Mile Lights Festival

Ten CTA bus routes will be temporarily detoured from North Michigan Avenue on Saturday, November 20 due to the annual Magnificent Mile Lights Festival. The festival motorcade is scheduled to step off at 5:30 p.m. on Michigan Avenue from Oak Street to Wacker Drive. Routes that will be detoured to adjacent streets are:
 

  • #3 King Drive
  • #4 Cottage Grove
  • #6 Jackson Park Express
  • #10 Museum of Science & Industry
  • #36 Broadway
 
  • #66 Chicago
  • #145 Wilson/Michigan Express
  • #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express
  • #147 Outer Drive Express
  • #151 Sheridan

 
Immediately following the parade will be a fireworks display which will be visible along the Chicago River between Michigan Avenue and Columbus Drive.
 
Additional Service
More frequent service will be provided on the Red Line. Longer trains will operate on the Blue, Brown and Orange lines.

Here Comes Santa Claus, Here Comes Santa Claus, Riding on a CTA Train!

Now in its 19th year, the festive CTA Holiday Train will make its first appearance Saturday, November 20, spreading holiday cheer to CTA customers.
 
Debuting on the Red and Purple Lines, the Holiday Train will travel along all CTA rail lines throughout November and December as part of its regular rail service. Normal CTA fares apply.
 
The train will run between approximately 2 p.m. and 9 p.m. on weekends and 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. on select weekdays (schedules for each individual line will vary), and will make stops at all stations along the respective routes.

Holiday Hours in Effect on #10 Museum of Science & Industry Bus Route

With the exception of Saturday, December 25, hours of operation along the #10 Museum of Science & Industry route will be extended on select dates beginning Friday, November 19 through Friday, December 31, 2010. 
 
The Museum of Science & Industry will offer extended hours – open from 9:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from 11 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. on Sundays – on the following dates:
 
  • Friday, November 19 through Sunday, November 21
  • Friday, November 26 through Sunday, November 28
  • Saturday, December 4 and Sunday, December 7
  • Saturday, December 11 and Sunday, December 12
  • Saturday, December 18 through Friday, December 24
  • Sunday, December 26 through Friday, December 31
 
The museum is closed on Christmas Day, Saturday, December 25.
 
On the dates listed above, service on the #10 will begin operating from Chestnut/Mies van der Rohe each morning approximately 30 minutes prior to the Museum of Science & Industry opening and the last bus departing from the museum approximately 30 minutes after closing.
 

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

Reinstatement of #51 51st Bus Stop

Currently in effect, the eastbound near side stop at 51st Street/Western served by #51 51st buses has been returned to service following the completion of nearby construction work.
 

Relocation of #54 Cicero Bus Stop at Cicero/Irving Park

Currently in effect, the southbound far side stop at Cicero/Irving Park served by #54 Cicero buses has been relocated to a near side stop following the completion of nearby construction work.
 

Changes to Bus Stops Along Four Routes – Effective Tuesday, November 23

Effective at the start of service on Tuesday, November 23, the following bus stop changes will be made along the #9 Ashland, #24 Wentworth, #43 43rd and #50 Damen bus routes:
 
#9 Ashland
  • Ashland/Green Line: this stop will be removed from service. Customers should board 100 feet north at the 63rd Street far side stop.
  • Ashland/63rd Street: the southbound near side stop will be relocated to a far side stop. The northbound stop will be removed from service. Customers should board 100 feet south under the Green Line.
 
#24 Wentworth
  • 3400 S. Wentworth (White Sox parking lot): the mid-block stop served by southbound #24 buses will be removed from service.
 
#43 43rd
  • 43rd Street/Wentworth: the near side stop served by eastbound #43 buses will be relocated around the corner to a far side stop at Wentworth/43rd Street. This stop is currently served by #24 Wentworth buses.
  • Wentworth/43rd Street: westbound #43 buses will begin serving the far side stop. This stop is currently served by #24 Wentworth buses.
 
#50 Damen
  • Damen/Cermak: the far side stop served by southbound #50 buses will be relocated to a near side stop.
 

Ongoing Bus Service Changes

#52A South Kedzie Buses Detoured at Kedzie/67th Street

Currently in effect until further notice, #52A South Kedzie buses are being detoured due to weight restrictions on the Kedzie Avenue Bridge at 67th Street.
 
Southbound #52A buses are traveling over the regular route along Kedzie to 67th Street then are operating via 67th Street, California, 71st Street to Kedzie and then resuming the regular route. Northbound #52A buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Sewer Installation Project Detours Southbound #57 Laramie Buses

Currently in effect until Wednesday, November 24, southbound #57 Laramie buses are being detoured due to the temporary closure of Laramie Avenue between Fulton and Maypole for a sewer installation project.

Southbound #57 buses are traveling over the regular route along Laramie to Lake then are operating via Lake, Pine, Corcoran, Central, Madison to Laramie and then resuming the regular route. Northbound #57 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 

Water Main Construction Project to Detour #56A North Milwaukee Buses

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, December 24, short-run #56A North Milwaukee buses operating to Devon/Avondale are being rerouted due to the closure of Devon Avenue between Newcastle and Oak Park for a water main construction project.
 
#56A North Milwaukee (Service to Devon/Avondale Only)
Northbound #56A buses are traveling over the regular route along Milwaukee to Devon before turning to begin southbound service. Southbound #56A buses are departing from Milwaukee/Devon and traveling over the regular route.
 

Bridge Work Detours #26 South Shore Express and #30 South Chicago Express buses

Currently in effect until Friday, December 31, #26 South Shore Express and #30 South Chicago Express buses are being rerouted due to the closure of the Ewing Street Bridge over the Calumet River for repair work.
 
Northbound #26 and #30 buses are traveling over the regular route along Ewing to 95th Street then are operating via 95th Street, South Chicago, Harbor, Mackinaw to 91st Street and continuing west on 91st Street over the regular route.
 
Southbound #26 and #30 buses are traveling over the regular route along 91st Street to Mackinaw then are operating via Mackinaw, Harbor, South Chicago, 95th Street to Ewing and continuing south on Ewing over the regular route.
 

#94 South California Buses Detoured Due to a Viaduct Construction Project

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, December 31, #94 South California buses are being detoured due to the temporary closure of California Avenue between Taylor and Fillmore for construction work on a nearby viaduct.
 
Northbound #94 buses are traveling over the regular route along California to Roosevelt then are operating via Roosevelt, Sacramento, Harrison to California and resuming the regular route. Southbound #94 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Temporary Changes in Service for #21 Cermak and #62 Archer Buses Serving the Cermak-Chinatown Station

Currently in effect, customers at the Cermak-Chinatown Red Line station must use the new entrance located on Archer Avenue approximately one block north of Cermak. This entrance will serve as the primary access point for customers while the main entrance to the station on the north side of Cermak is reconstructed and made accessible.  
 
As a result of these changes, and to accommodate customers transferring between bus and rail services, the following changes have been made to buses serving the station:
 
#21 Cermak
Eastbound #21 Cermak buses are traveling over the regular route along Cermak to Wentworth then operating via Wentworth, Archer, Clark to Cermak and resuming the regular route. Westbound #21 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 
  • Cermak/Wentworth: the near side stop at Cermak/Wentworth served by eastbound #21 buses has been temporarily removed from service.
  • Wentworth/Cermak: new temporary stops have been added at Wentworth/Cermak for eastbound and westbound #21 buses. Eastbound customers must board and exit buses from the far side stop; westbound customers must board and exit buses from the near side stop.
  • Cermak/Red Line Station: the mid-block stop near the Cermak Road entrance of the Cermak-Chinatown station has been temporarily removed from service.
  • Archer/Red Line Station: eastbound #21 buses are serving the new temporary mid-block stop near the Archer Avenue entrance of the Cermak-Chinatown station.
  • Wentworth/Archer: westbound #21 buses are serving the new temporary far side stop at Wentworth/Archer.
 
#62 Archer
  • Archer/Wentworth: the northbound near side stop at Archer/Wentworth served by #62 buses has been removed from service.
  • Archer/Red Line Station: northbound #62 buses are serving the new mid-block stop near the Archer Avenue entrance of the Cermak-Chinatown station.
 

#56 Milwaukee Bus Stop at Milwaukee/Diversey Temporarily Relocated

Until further notice, the southbound near side bus stop at Milwaukee/Diversey served by #56 Milwaukee buses has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop.
 

Lane Restrictions near State and Grand Detour #29 State and #36 Broadway Buses

Due to lane restrictions associated with the Grand/State Red Line rehabilitation project at the northwest corner of State Street and Grand Avenue, #29 State and #36 Broadway buses are being detoured to adjacent streets until further notice.
 
Southbound #29 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand past State to Clark then traveling via Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route.
 
Northbound #29 buses are traveling along the remaining open lane along State and over the regular route.
 
Southbound #36 buses are traveling over the regular route along State to Ontario then operating via Ontario, Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #36 buses are operating over the regular route along Dearborn past Illinois to Ohio then traveling via Ohio to State and resuming the regular route.
 

Temporary Changes to Bus Stops near Sheridan/Foster

Currently in effect until further notice, the northbound near side stop at Sheridan/Foster has been temporarily removed from service due to the demolition and reconstruction of a nearby building. This stop is served by #136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express, #147 Outer Drive Express and #151 Sheridan buses.
 

Temporary Removal of #126 Jackson Bus Stop at Jackson/Sangamon

Currently in effect until Friday, September 30, 2011, the eastbound far side stop at Jackson/Sangamon served by #126 Jackson buses has been temporarily removed from service due to nearby construction. Customers may board and exit eastbound #126 buses at either Jackson/Morgan or Jackson/Peoria.
 

Service Adjustments Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project

Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project, Franklin Street between Harrison and Van Buren and Lower Wacker Drive between Randolph and Harrison are closed until May 2012. As a result of these closures and other street reconfigurations, the following changes in bus service currently are in effect:
 
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
Northbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses are traveling over the regular route along Harrison to Canal then are operating via Canal, Jackson to Franklin and resuming the regular route. Southbound #11 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes also have been made to bus stops served by northbound #11 buses:
 
  • Canal/Harrison: a far side stop has been added to service.
  • Canal/Jackson: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Jackson at the Chicago River: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • 404 W. Harrison: the mid-block stop has been removed from service.
  • Franklin/Van Buren: the far side stop has been removed from service.
 
#121 Union/Wacker Express
Northbound #121 Union/Wacker Express buses are operating over the regular route along Jackson past Wacker to Franklin then are traveling via Franklin, Lake, Post Place to Lower Wacker and then resuming the regular route.
 
Southbound #121 buses are operating over the regular route along Lower Wacker to the exit ramp for Upper Wacker and then traveling via Upper Wacker to Adams and resuming the regular route west on Adams.
 
#135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express buses are traveling south on Wacker to Jackson then are traveling east on Jackson past Franklin and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #135 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #136 Sheridan/LaSalle buses are operating south on Wacker to Van Buren then are traveling via Van Buren, Canal to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #136 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#156 LaSalle (PM Service Only)
During the evening rush period only, northbound #156 LaSalle buses departing from Union Station are traveling west on Van Buren to Wacker then are operating via Wacker to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary bus stop change has been made and is in effect for northbound #156 buses during the evening rush period only: 
 
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
