Blue Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Stairway and Escalator Temporarily Out of Service at Madison/Monroe Station

On Saturday, May 8 from midnight until 6 a.m., the south stairway and escalator from the mezzanine to the platform temporarily will be out of service at the Madison/Monroe Blue Line station in the Dearborn subway due to construction.
 
Customers can enter and exit the platform via the north stairway.
 

Stairway and Escalator Temporarily Out of Service at Randolph/Washington Station

The south stairway between the mezzanine and platform at the Blue Line Randolph/Washington subway station temporarily will be closed to customers from 11 p.m. Friday, May 7 until 7 a.m. Saturday, May 8, due to construction. During these times, the escalator will be halted to allow customers to use it as a stairway.
 

Orange Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Late Night Single Track in Effect between Pulaski and Kedzie Orange Line Stations

Northbound Orange Line trains will undergo a late night single track between the Pulaski and Kedzie stations from 9 p.m. until the end of service (approximately 1:30 a.m.) on Sunday night, May 9, due to routine track maintenance.
 
During these times, northbound Orange Line customers at the Kedzie station must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Trains Undergo Late Night Single Track between the Kedzie and 35th/Archer Stations

A late night single track will be in effect for northbound Orange Line trains between the Kedzie and 35th/Archer stations from 9 p.m. each night until the end of service (approximately 1:30 a.m.) on Wednesday night, May 12 and Thursday night, May 13, due to routine track maintenance.
 
During these times, northbound Orange Line customers at the Western station must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Red Line – Other Events Affecting Service

CANCELLED: Southbound Trains Undergo Late Night Single Track Friday Night

The late night single track scheduled for Friday night, May 7, affecting boarding at the 79th Street station has been cancelled.
 
Northbound and southbound customers will board and exit Red Line trains from their normal locations at this location. 
 
 

Late Night Single Tracks in Effect Next Week on the 95th/Dan Ryan Branch

Red Line trains operating along the 95th/Dan Ryan branch will undergo late night single tracks beginning Monday night, May 10 through Friday morning, May 14, while crews make station improvements.
 
Monday Night – Southbound at Garfield
From 11 p.m. Monday, May 10 until 4 a.m. the following morning, southbound Red Line customers at the Garfield station must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 
Tuesday Night – Southbound at 69th  
From 11 p.m. Tuesday, May 11 until 4 a.m. the following morning, southbound Red Line customers at the 69th Street station must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 
Wednesday Night – Northbound at 79th
From 11 p.m. Wednesday, May 12 until 4 a.m. the following morning, northbound Red Line customers at the 79th Street station must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 
Thursday Night – Northbound at Garfield
From 11 p.m. Thursday, May 13 until 4 a.m. the following morning, northbound Red Line customers at the Garfield Street station must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Purple Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Southbound Trains Undergo Daytime Reroute on Saturday

From 6:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday, May 8, southbound Purple Line trains will undergo a single track between the Central and Davis stations. 

Southbound customers at the Noyes and Foster stations must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Brown Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Brown Line Trains Unable to Enter the Loop Early Sunday Morning

Brown Line trains will be unable to enter the Loop from approximately 7:15 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Sunday, May 9, due to structural maintenance work on the Wells Street Bridge.
 
During this time, shuttle buses will replace rail service between the Merchandise Mart and the Clark/Lake stations. Brown Line trains will operate normally between the Kimball and Merchandise Mart stations.
 
Customers can use Orange, Green and Pink line trains to travel between Clark/Lake and other Loop stations.
 
A shuttle train also will operate around the Loop, counterclockwise via the Outer Loop (Brown Line) tracks.
 
Customers can use the Red Line subway for alternate service to and from downtown. Free transfers between Red and Brown line trains can be made at the Belmont and Fullerton stations.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. Operators will announce the route and direction of each train.
 

Service for Upcoming Events

#19 United Center Express Serves Upcoming Playoff Games

CTA will operate its #19 United Center Express for fans attending the second round of Stanley Cup playoff games at the United Center between the Vancouver Canucks and Chicago Blackhawks on the following dates and times: 
 
  • Game 5 – Sunday, May 9 at 7 p.m.
  • Game 7* – Thursday, May 13 at 7 p.m.
 
*only if needed
 
Buses will leave every 12-15 minutes from Michigan and Randolph beginning 90 minutes before the start of each event until the event begins.  When the event ends, #19 buses will depart the United Center approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.
 
#19 buses no longer make stops along Michigan Avenue north of Randolph, but continue to make all stops on Madison from Wabash to Clinton.  From Clinton, #19 buses run express to the United Center.
 
After each game, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3.  On the return trip, #19 buses will operate east on Washington to Wacker, then head south to Monroe and east to Michigan, making all stops from Jefferson to Michigan before turning north on Michigan and making the final stop at Randolph.
 

CTA Provides Service to Soccer Match at Solder Field

The Mexico versus Senegal Soccer match will be held at Soldier Field on Monday, May 10. Gates open at 6 p.m. for the 8 p.m. match. In anticipation of large crowds, CTA will operate longer trains on the Orange Line from Midway beginning at approximately 6:45 p.m. until approximately 11:30 p.m. and on the Red Line from 8:05 p.m. until 11:15 p.m. (from 95th/State).
 
In addition, articulated buses will be available to accommodate additional customers on the #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express which serves Museum Campus adjacent to the stadium.
 

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

Updated: Viaduct Construction Work Temporarily Detours #44 Wallace/Racine Buses

Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 11, Wallace at 41st Street is closed to all traffic due to viaduct construction work.
 
Northbound #44 Wallace/Racine buses are operating over the regular route along Wallace to 41st Street then traveling via 41st Street, Halsted, 39th Street to Wallace and resuming the regular route. Southbound #44 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Butterfly Ball Temporarily Reroutes Buses

The terminal driveway at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum will be closed to all traffic for the Butterfly Ball from 5 a.m. Friday, May 7 until 2 p.m. Saturday, May 8.
 
Eastbound #76 Diversey buses will operate over the regular route to Diversey/Sheridan then will turn right onto Cannon Drive to Lake Shore Drive West to the end of the route.
 
Upon beginning westbound service, #76 buses will leave from Lake Shore Drive West and travel to Diversey, heading west to Diversey/Sheridan and then resume travel over the regular route.
 
Northbound #151 Sheridan – Nature Museum buses and northbound #156 LaSalle Nature Museum buses will operate over the regular route to Cannon Drive and will continue northwest on Cannon (not entering the driveway) to Stockton to the end of the route.
 
Upon beginning southbound service, #151 and #156 buses will continue northwest on Cannon to Stockton, turn left and continue south on Stockton over the regular route.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
 

Temporary Reroute on #124 Navy Pier Route Due to Bridge Closure

The Columbus Bridge over the main branch of the Chicago River will be closed to all traffic from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. each day on Monday, May 10 and Tuesday, May 11 due to repairs.
 
Northbound #124 Navy Pier buses will travel over the regular route to Lower Columbus/Lower Wacker then will operate via Lower Wacker, Lower Lake Shore Drive to Illinois and resume the regular route.
 
Southbound buses will travel over the regular route to Grand/Lake Shore Drive then will operate via Lower Lake Shore Drive, Lower Wacker to Lower Columbus and then resume the regular route.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
 

Nine CTA Routes Undergo Temporary Reroutes Due to The Walk to Empower

Beginning Sunday, May 9 from 1 a.m. until approximately 4 p.m. several downtown streets will be closed to all traffic due to The Walk to Empower event. The participants will step off at 8 a.m. As a result, nine CTA bus routes will be temporarily rerouted during set up and the actual event.
 
From 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. the following streets will be closed:
 
  • Balbo between Michigan and Lake Shore Drive
  • Columbus between Randolph and Roosevelt
  • Congress between Michigan and Columbus (including Congress Plaza)
  • Northbound Michigan between Roosevelt and Congress
  • Westbound Roosevelt between Columbus and Michigan
 
Reroutes on the routes below will be in effect from 1 a.m. until 7 a.m. and then again from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. for clean up:
 
Northbound #6 Jackson Park Express, #14 Jeffery Express and #10 Museum of Science & Industry buses will operate over the regular route to Columbus/Roosevelt then turn left on Roosevelt and travel west to Michigan past Balbo and continue on Michigan over the regular route.
 
Southbound #6, #10 and #14 buses will travel the reverse of the northbound route. And will remain in effect throughout the day.
 

The following reroutes are in effect from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m.:

Northbound #3 King Drive and #4 Cottage Grove buses will travel over the regular route to Michigan/Roosevelt then turn left traveling west on Roosevelt to State, north on State to Jackson then east on Jackson to Michigan and resume the regular route northbound on Michigan.
 
Northbound #6 and#14 buses will operate over the regular route to Lake Shore
Drive/I-55 Stevenson Expressway then will operate southwest on the expressway and exit at State Street Exit 293C, traveling north on State to Jackson, east on Jackson to Michigan and resume the regular route north on Michigan.
 
Northbound #10 buses will operate over the regular route to Lake Shore Drive/I-55 Stevenson Expressway, southwest on the expressway and exit at State Street Exit 293C, traveling north on State to State past Balbo continuing north on State over the regular route.
 
Eastbound #18 16th/18th buses will travel over the regular route to Roosevelt/State, turn left onto State traveling north to 11th Street, turn right onto 11th Street, traveling east to Wabash, then south on Wabash to Roosevelt and turn right to travel west along Roosevelt over the regular route.
 
Eastbound #126 Jackson buses will travel over the regular route to Michigan/Congress, continue past Congress to Harrison to the end of the route. Eastbound buses will not travel beyond Harrison.
 
At the beginning of westbound service, buses will operate west on Harrison to State, turn right to head north on State to Adams then operate west on Adams over the regular route.
 
Northbound #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express buses will travel over the regular route to Museum Campus Drive then continue south on Museum Campus Drive to 18th Street, turn right heading west on 18th Street to Lake Shore Drive, south on Lake Shore Drive to I-55 Stevenson Expressway to State Street Exit 293, travel north on State to Roosevelt and resume the regular route.
 
Southbound#147 Outer Drive Express buses will travel over the regular route to Michigan/Congress then continue south to Harrison for end of route. At the beginning of northbound service, #147 buses will travel west on Harrison to State then operate north on State over the regular route.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
 

Beverly Breast Cancer Walk Reroutes #103 West 103rd Street Buses

On Sunday, May 9 from 7 a.m. until 11 a.m., 103rd Street between Leavitt and Hoyne will be closed to all traffic for the Beverly Breast Cancer Walk. The walk route extends from Longwood at 97th Street to Leavitt at 106th Street.
 
Westbound #103 West 103rd buses will travel over the regular route to Vincennes then will travel south on Vincennes to 111th, Western then return to 103rd and resume the regular route. Eastbound buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
 

Bus Stop Temporarily Relocated at Milwaukee/Springfield

Effectively immediately until Wednesday, May 12, the northbound near side bus stop at Milwaukee/Springfield temporarily has been relocated to a far side stop due to construction. The stop is serviced by #56 Milwaukee buses.
 

Bus Stop Relocated at Western/North Avenue

Effective immediately, the northbound near side bus stop at Western/North Avenue has been relocated to a far side stop at Western/North Avenue. The stop is served by #49 Western buses.
 

Ongoing Bus Reroutes

Temporary Relocation of Bus Stop at Jeffery/75th Street

Currently in effect until further notice, the southbound far side bus stop at Jeffery/75th Street temporarily has been relocated to a near side stop due to nearby sidewalk construction. This stop is served by southbound #14 Jeffery Express and #15 Jeffery Local buses.
 

#56 Milwaukee Bus Stop at Milwaukee/Diversey Temporarily Relocated

Until further notice, the southbound near side bus stop at Milwaukee/Diversey served by #56 Milwaukee buses temporarily has been relocated to a far side stop.
 

#54B South Cicero Buses Serving St. Laurence High School Temporarily Rerouted

Currently in effect until Wednesday, May 12, a portion of Central Avenue will be closed to all traffic due to railroad track work south of 73rd Street. As a result of this work, #54B South Cicero buses that serve St. Laurence High School will undergo a temporary reroute.
 
Southbound #54B South Cicero buses are traveling over the regular route along Cicero past 73rd Street to State Road and are operating via State, 79th Street to Central before turning northbound at St. Laurence High School. Northbound #54B buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Sewer Construction Work Temporarily Detours #78 Montrose Buses

Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Friday, May 14, Montrose Avenue between Paulina and Greenview is closed to all traffic due to a sewer construction project.
 
Eastbound #78 Montrose buses are traveling over the regular route along Montrose to Damen then operating via Damen, Wilson and then resuming the regular route east on Wilson past Clark. Westbound #78 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Temporary Removal of Bus Stop at Halsted/Lake

Until Friday, May 21, the southbound near side stop at Halsted/Lake served by #8 Halsted buses temporarily has been removed from service due to nearby construction.
 

Bridge Closure Temporarily Reroutes Two CTA Bus Routes

The Ewing Street Bridge over the Calumet River at 3331 East 92nd Street is closed to all traffic for bridge repairs until Friday, May 21. As a result, #26 South Shore Drive and #30 South Chicago buses are undergoing a temporary reroute.
 
Southbound #26 and #30 buses will travel over the regular route to 91st Street/Mackinaw then will operate via Mackinaw, Harbor, South Chicago, 95th Street to Ewing and then resume the regular route.
 
Northbound buses will travel over the regular route to Ewing/95th Street then will operate via 95th Street, South Chicago, Harbor, Mackinaw to 91st Street and then resume the regular route.
 

Temporary Relocation of #93 California/Dodge Bus Stop

Currently in effect until Thursday, May 27, the southbound curb lane of California Avenue at Granville is closed to all traffic due to construction. As a result of this lane closure, the southbound near side stop at California/Granville served by #93 California/Dodge buses temporarily has been relocated approximately 175 feet north.
 

#72 Bus Stop at North/Clybourn Red Line Station Temporarily Relocated Due to Construction

Currently in effect until Wednesday, June 30, the eastbound mid-block stop in front of the station that is served by #72 North Avenue buses temporarily has been relocated to a near side stop at the intersection of North/Clybourn. The relocation is due to construction at the North/Clybourn Red Line station.
 
In addition, a temporary far side stop at the North Avenue/Halsted intersection has been added. This stop will be served by #72 buses.
 

#81 Lawrence Bus Stops near the Kennedy Expressway Temporarily Eliminated

Currently in effect until Tuesday, August 31, the eastbound and westbound near side bus stops on Lawrence at LeClaire served by #81 Lawrence buses temporarily have been removed from service due to rehabilitation work on the Lawrence Avenue viaduct.
 

#111 Pullman/111th/115th Buses Undergo Reroute Due to Bridge Repair Work

Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Sunday, October 31, the 111th Street Bridge over Interstate 57 (I-57) is closed to all traffic due to bridge and deck replacement work.
 
Southbound #111 Pullman/111th/115th buses are operating over the regular route along 111th Street to Marshfield then traveling via Marshfield, 112th Place, Hamlet to 111th Street and then resuming the regular route east on 111th Street.
 
Northbound #111 buses are traveling over the regular route along 111th Street to Throop then operating via Throop, 107th Street, Vincennes and then resuming the regular route south on Vincennes past 111th Street.
 

Temporary Removal of #126 Jackson Bus Stop at Jackson/Sangamon

Currently in effect until Friday, September 30, 2011, the eastbound far side stop at Jackson/Sangamon served by #126 Jackson buses temporarily has been removed from service due to nearby construction. Customers may board and exit eastbound #126 buses from either Jackson/Morgan or Jackson/Peoria.
 

Lane Restrictions near State and Grand Detour #29 State and #36 Broadway Buses

Due to lane restrictions associated with the Grand/State Red Line rehabilitation project at the northwest corner of State Street and Grand Avenue, #29 State and #36 Broadway buses are being detoured to adjacent streets until further notice.
 
Southbound #29 State buses are operating over the regular route along Grand past State to Clark then traveling via Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route.
 
Northbound #29 buses are traveling along the remaining open lane along State and over the regular route.
 
Southbound #36 Broadway buses are traveling over the regular route along State to Ontario then operating via Ontario, Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #36 buses are operating over the regular route along Dearborn past Illinois to Ohio then traveling via Ohio to State and resuming the regular route.
 

Temporary Changes to Bus Stops near Sheridan/Foster

Currently in effect until further notice, the northbound near side stop at Sheridan/Foster temporarily has been removed from service due to the demolition and reconstruction of a nearby building. This stop is served by #136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express, #147 Outer Drive Express and #151 Sheridan buses.
 

Service Adjustments Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project

Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project, several streets in the downtown area have been closed or reconfigured until Monday, April 2, 2012. As a result of these closures and reconfigurations, the following changes in service along three CTA bus routes currently are in effect:
 
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
Van Buren Street between Canal and Clinton has been reconfigured to accommodate westbound traffic only. As a result, the southbound near side bus stop at Van Buren/Canal served by #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses has been relocated to a far side stop. 
 
#121 Union Wacker Express
Lower Wacker Drive between Harrison and Randolph is closed to all traffic due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project. During this time #121 Union/Wacker Express buses are being detoured to adjacent streets.
 
Northbound #121 Union/Wacker Express buses are operating over the regular route along Jackson past Wacker to Franklin then are traveling via Franklin, Lake, Post Place to Lower Wacker and then resuming the regular route.
 
Southbound #121 buses will operate over the regular route along Lower Wacker to the exit ramp for Upper Wacker and then travel via Upper Wacker to Adams and resume the regular route west on Adams.
 
#124 Navy Pier
Van Buren Street between Canal and Clinton has been reconfigured to accommodate westbound traffic only.
 
Westbound #124 Navy Pier buses are traveling over the regular route along Clinton past Van Buren to Harrison then are operating via Harrison to Canal and resuming the regular route north on Canal. Eastbound #124 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
