Brown Line – Events Affecting Service

Southbound Brown Line Trains Temporarily Rerouted in the Loop on Sunday

From 7:15 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 8, southbound Brown Line trains will be rerouted in the Loop due to maintenance work on the outer Loop structure along Wells and Van Buren. 
 
During this time, southbound (to the Loop) Brown Line trains will be rerouted from the outer Loop track to the inner Loop track, and travel clockwise. Entering the Loop, Brown Line trains will make their first stop at Clark/Lake, then State/Lake, Randolph/Wabash, Madison/Wabash, Adams/Wabash, Harold Washington Library, LaSalle/Van Buren, Quincy/Wells and Washington/Wells, then proceed to the Merchandise Mart station and resume the normal route.
 
Trains operating along the Green, Orange and Pink lines will be unaffected and will operate normally in the Loop. 
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. 
 

Red Line – Events Affecting Service

Late Night Trains to Operate on Same Tracks between North/Clybourn and Grand

All late night Red Line trains will be routed to operate on the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) tracks between the Grand and North/Clybourn stations from 11 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Sunday, May 8 through Thursday morning, May 12, due to sewer cleaning.
 
Northbound Red Line customers at the Grand and Chicago stations must board and exit trains from the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) platform.
 
Northbound Red Line customers at the Clark/Division station must board and exit trains from the southbound side (to 95th/Dan Ryan) of the platform.
 
CTA operators will announce the direction of each train. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. 
 
Thursday Night – Affecting Northbound Trains at North/Clybourn
From 11 p.m. Thursday, May 12 until 4 a.m. the following morning, all late night Red Line trains will be routed to operate on the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) tracks at the North/Clybourn station as sewer cleaning continues in the subway.
 
Northbound Red Line customers at the North/Clybourn station must board and exit trains from the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) platform.
 
CTA operators will announce the direction of each train. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. 
 

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

Sewer Repair Work Detours Southbound #48 South Damen Buses

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, May 6, southbound #48 South Damen buses are being rerouted due to the closure of Damen Avenue between 56th and 57th streets for sewer repair work.
 
Southbound #48 buses are traveling over the regular route along Damen to 55th Street then are operating via 55th Street, Ashland, 59th Street to Damen and then resuming the regular route. Northbound #48 buses are not affected and traveling over the regular route.
 

Temporary Relocation of #72 North Avenue Bus Stop

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, May 27, the westbound far side stop at North Avenue/Damen served by #72 North buses has been temporarily relocated 60 feet west of its previous location due to nearby construction.
 

Temporary Relocation of #56 Milwaukee Bus Stop

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, May 27, the westbound near side stop at Milwaukee/North Avenue served by #56 Milwaukee buses has been temporarily relocated 40 feet west of its previous location due to nearby construction.
 

3MAJOWKA Festival Detours #81 Lawrence Buses until Late Sunday Night

From 12:01 a.m. Friday, May 6 until 2 a.m. Monday, May 9, westbound #81 Lawrence buses will be detoured due to the closure of Lipps Avenue between Lawrence and Veterans for the 3MAJOWKA Festival.
 
Westbound #81 Lawrence buses will be unable to turn onto Lipps Avenue and instead will continue west on Lawrence past Lipps to Milwaukee and enter the Jefferson Park south terminal from Milwaukee. Eastbound #81 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 

Butterfly Ball Temporarily Detours Three Routes This Weekend

From 5 a.m. Friday, May 6 until 2 p.m. Saturday, May 7, the terminal driveway at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum will be closed to all traffic for the annual Butterfly Ball event. As a result of this temporary closure, #76 Diversey, and #151 Sheridan and #156 LaSalle shortliner buses only operating to the Nature Museum will be detoured.
 
Eastbound #76 buses will operate over the regular route along Diversey to Sheridan then will travel via Cannon Drive, Stockton, Fullerton to Cannon (just across the street from the Nature Museum) before beginning westbound service. Westbound #76 buses will continue north on Cannon over the regular route.
 
Northbound #151 and #156 buses will operate over their regular routes to Cannon Drive and will continue northwest on Cannon (not entering the driveway) to Stockton before beginning southbound service. From Cannon/Stockton, southbound #151 and #156 buses will travel south on Stockton over their regular routes.
 

#60 Blue Island/26th Buses Detoured for Cinco de Mayo Event This Weekend

From 8 a.m. Friday, May 6 until approximately 3 a.m. Monday, May 9, #60 Blue Island/26th buses will be detoured due to the closure of 26th Street between Kostner and Ogden for the Little Village Chamber of Commerce Cinco de Mayo event.
 
Westbound #60 buses will travel over the regular route along 26th Street to Kostner then will operate via Kostner, Ogden, Cicero Connector, Cicero and into the west terminal before beginning eastbound service. From the west terminal, eastbound #60 buses will travel via Cicero to the Ogden Connector then will operate via the Ogden Connector, Ogden, Kostner to 26th Street and then resume the regular route.
 

Polish Constitution Day Parade in Grant Park Detours Buses on Saturday

From 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 7, #6 Jackson Park Express, #10 Museum of Science & Industry, #14 Jeffery Express, #126 Jackson and #147 Outer Drive Express buses will be detoured due to closure of Congress Plaza and Columbus Drive between Roosevelt and Monroe for the Polish Constitution Day Parade.
 
Participants will assemble on Columbus between Roosevelt and Balbo beginning at 7 a.m. The parade will step off at 11:30 a.m. and proceed north from Columbus/Balbo to Monroe.
 
Northbound #6, #10 and #14 buses will travel over their regular routes along Columbus to Roosevelt then will operate via Roosevelt to Michigan and then resume their regular routes. Southbound #6, #10 and #14 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Eastbound #126 buses will operate over the regular route along Michigan to Harrison then will travel via Harrison to Wabash before beginning westbound service. From Harrison/Wabash westbound #126 buses will operate via Wabash, Balbo, Michigan to Harrison and then resume the regular route.
 
Southbound #147 buses will travel over the regular route along Michigan to Harrison then will operate via Harrison to Wabash before turning to begin northbound service. Northbound #147 buses will depart from Harrison/Wabash and travel via Harrison to State and resume the regular route north of Congress.
 

Three Routes Detoured Saturday Morning for Helicopter Lift

From 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. Saturday, May 7, southbound #22 Clark and #36 Broadway buses and eastbound #65 Grand buses will be detoured due to the closure of Clark Street between Grand and Illinois and Illinois Street between Clark and LaSalle for a scheduled helicopter lift.
 
Southbound #22 buses will travel over the regular route along Clark to Ontario then will operate via Ontario, Wells, Hubbard to Clark and then resume the regular route. Northbound #22 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 
Southbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along Ontario past Clark to Wells then will travel via Wells, Hubbard to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 
Eastbound #65 buses will travel over the regular route along Wells past Illinois to Hubbard then will operate via Hubbard, Dearborn to Illinois and then resume the regular route. Westbound #65 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 

Nine CTA Bus Routes Detoured on Sunday for the Y-ME Race in Grant Park

From 1 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, May 8, nine CTA bus routes will be detoured in the Grant Park area due to the 2011 Y-ME Race at Your Pace event. The race begins at 8 a.m.
 
As a result, the #3 King Drive, #4 Cottage Grove, #6 Jackson Park Express, #10 Museum of Science & Industry, #14 Jeffrey Express, #18 16th/18th, #126 Jackson, #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express and #147 Outer Drive Express buses will be temporarily rerouted beginning with the set-up, during the race and until clean-up work is complete.
 
From 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. the following streets will be closed:
 
  • Balbo between Michigan and Lake Shore Drive
  • Columbus between Randolph and Roosevelt
  • Congress between Michigan and Columbus (including Congress Plaza)
  • Northbound Michigan between Roosevelt and Congress
  • Westbound Roosevelt between Columbus and Michigan
 
Pre- and Post-Event Reroutes
The following reroutes will be in effect from 1 a.m. until 7 a.m. and then again from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. for clean up:
 
Northbound #6, #10 and #14 buses will operate over the regular route to Columbus/Roosevelt then turn left on Roosevelt and travel west to Michigan past Balbo and continue on Michigan over the regular route. Southbound #6, #10 and #14 buses will travel the reverse of the northbound route and will remain in effect throughout the day.
 
Reroutes During the Race
The following reroutes are in effect from 7 a.m. until noon:
 
Northbound #3 and #4 buses will travel over their regular routes to Michigan/Roosevelt then will operate via Roosevelt, State, Jackson to Michigan and resume their regular routes northbound on Michigan. Southbound #3 and #4 buses are not affected and will travel over their regular routes.
 
Northbound #6 and#14 buses will operate over their regular routes to Lake Shore
Drive/I-55 Stevenson Expressway then will operate southwest on the expressway and exit at State Street Exit 293C then will travel via State, Jackson, Michigan and then resume their regular routes north on Michigan.
 
Southbound #6 and #14 buses will travel over their regular routes along Michigan past Balbo to Roosevelt then will operate via Roosevelt to Columbus and then resume their regular routes.
 
Northbound #10 buses will operate over the regular route to Lake Shore Drive/I-55 Stevenson Expressway, southwest on the expressway and exit at State Street Exit 293C, then will travel via State past Balbo and continue north on State over the regular route.
 
Southbound #10 buses will operate over the regular route along Michigan past Balbo to Roosevelt then will operate via Roosevelt to Columbus and then resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #18 buses will travel over the regular route to Roosevelt/State then will operate via State, 11th Street, Wabash to Roosevelt and then resume the regular route. Westbound #18 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 
Eastbound #126 buses will travel over the regular route along Michigan past Congress to Michigan/Harrison before beginning westbound service. From Michigan/Harrison, westbound #126 buses will operate via Harrison, State to Adams and then resume the regular route.
 
Northbound #146 buses will operate over the regular route along Museum Campus Drive past McFetridge to 18th Street then will travel via 18th Street, Lake Shore Drive, I-55 Stevenson Expressway to State Street Exit 293, State to Roosevelt and then resume the regular route. Southbound #146 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 
Southbound #147 buses will travel over the regular route along Michigan past Congress to Harrison before beginning northbound service. From Michigan/Harrison, northbound #147 buses will operate via Harrison to State and then resume the regular route.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
 

Beverly Breast Cancer Walk Detours #103 West 103rd Buses on Sunday

From 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sunday, May 8, #103 West 103rd buses will be detoured due to the closure of 103rd Street between Leavitt and Hoyne for the annual Beverly Breast Cancer Walk.
 
Westbound #103 buses will operate over the regular route along 103rd Street to Vincennes then will travel via Vincennes, Monterey, 111th Street, Western to 103rd Street and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #103 buses will travel the reverse route. 
 

Ongoing Bus Service Changes

Construction Work on 83rd Street Detours Three Routes

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, May 13, #N5 South Shore, #26 South Shore Express and #71 71st buses are being detoured due to the closure of 83rd Street between Exchange and Bond avenues for construction work.
 
Southbound #N5, #26 and #71 buses are traveling over the regular route along South Shore to 79th Street then operating via 79th Street to Exchange and resuming the regular route past 83rd Street. Northbound #N5, #26 and #71 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Water Main Project Temporarily Detours Eastbound #21 Cermak Buses

Currently in effect until approximately 5 p.m. Monday, May 16, eastbound #21 Cermak buses are being detoured due to the closure of Cermak between Kostner and Kildare for a water main project.
 
Eastbound #21 buses are operating over the regular route along Cermak to Kostner then traveling via Kostner, Ogden to Cermak and resuming the regular route. Westbound #21 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 

Temporary Relocation of #78 Montrose and #85 Central Bus Stops at Central/Montrose

Currently in effect until approximately 4 a.m. Tuesday, May 31, the following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by #78 Montrose and #85 Central buses due to sidewalk construction work:
 
#78 Montrose
  • Montrose/Central: the westbound far side stop has been relocated to a near side stop.
 
#85 Central
  • Central/Montrose: the southbound near side stop has been relocated to a far side stop.
 

Temporary Relocation of #126 Jackson Bus Stop at Harrison/Paulina

Currently in effect until approximately 6 p.m. Friday, July 15, the westbound near side stop at Harrison/Paulina served by #126 Jackson buses has been relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction.
 

Lane Restrictions near State and Grand Detour #29 State and #36 Broadway Buses

Due to lane restrictions associated with the Grand/State Red Line rehabilitation project at the northwest corner of State and Grand, #29 State and #36 Broadway buses are being detoured to adjacent streets until further notice.
 
Southbound #29 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand past State to Clark then traveling via Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #29 buses are traveling along the remaining open lane along State and over the regular route.
 
Southbound #36 buses are traveling over the regular route along State to Ontario then are operating via Ontario, Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #36 buses are operating over the regular route along Dearborn past Illinois to Ohio then traveling via Ohio to State and resuming the regular route.
 

Repairs to Bridge Detour #111 Pullman/111th/115th Buses

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, September 30, #111 Pullman/111th/115th buses are being detoured from Cottage Grove between 98th Street and 100th Place due to bridge repair work.
 
Southbound #111 buses are traveling over the regular route along 95th Street to King Drive then operating via King Drive, 103rd Street to Cottage Grove and resuming the regular route. Northbound #111 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Changes in Service along #8 Halsted Route for Bridge Reconstruction Project

Currently in effect until late-December 2011, Halsted Street between Division and the north branch of the Chicago River is closed due to a bridge reconstruction project.
 
Northbound #8 Halsted buses are traveling over the regular route along Halsted past Chicago to North Branch then are operating via North Branch, Cherry, Division to Halsted and then resuming the regular route. Southbound #8 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 
Changes to Bus Stops
  • Halsted/North Branch: the northbound far side stop on Halsted has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop on North Branch at Halsted.
  • Halsted/Division: the southbound far side stop has been temporarily relocated to a near side stop.
 

Service Changes for 13 CTA Bus Routes due to Wacker Drive Construction

Until further notice, 13 CTA bus routes that operate on or near Wacker Drive have undergone service changes due to several downtown street closures as part of the Revive Wacker Drive reconstruction project. 
 
These street closures are affecting service on the #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick, #19 United Center Express, #20 Madison, #56 Milwaukee, #60 Blue Island/26th, #120 Ogilvie/Wacker Express, #121 Union/Wacker Express, #122 Illinois Center/Ogilvie Express, #123 Illinois Center/Union Express, #124 Navy Pier, #125 Water Tower Express, #129 West Loop/South Loop and the #157 Streeterville/Taylor.

Service Adjustments Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project

Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project, Franklin Street between Harrison and Van Buren and Lower Wacker Drive between Randolph and Harrison are closed until May 2012. As a result of these closures and other street reconfigurations, the following changes in bus service currently are in effect:
 
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
Northbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses are traveling over the regular route along Harrison to Canal then are operating via Canal, Jackson to Franklin and resuming the regular route. Southbound #11 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes also have been made to bus stops served by northbound #11 buses:
 
  • Canal/Harrison: a far side stop has been added to service.
  • Canal/Jackson: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Jackson at the Chicago River: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • 404 W. Harrison: the mid-block stop has been removed from service.
  • Franklin/Van Buren: the far side stop has been removed from service.
 
#121 Union/Wacker Express
Northbound #121 Union/Wacker Express buses are operating over the regular route along Jackson past Wacker to Franklin then are traveling via Franklin, Lake, Post Place to Lower Wacker and then resuming the regular route.
 
Southbound #121 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand to Wabash then traveling via Wabash, Wacker, Franklin to Adams and then resuming the regular route.
 
#135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express buses are traveling south on Wacker to Jackson then are traveling east on Jackson past Franklin and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #135 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #136 Sheridan/LaSalle buses are operating south on Wacker to Van Buren then are traveling via Van Buren, Canal to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #136 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#156 LaSalle (PM Service Only)
During the evening rush period only, northbound #156 LaSalle buses departing from Union Station are traveling west on Van Buren to Wacker then are operating via Wacker to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary bus stop change has been made and is in effect for northbound #156 buses during the evening rush period only: 
 
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
