Events Affecting CTA Service Beginning the Weekend of May 25-27

Blue Line – Events Affecting Service

Forest Park Branch: Late Night Boarding Changes at Cicero and Pulaski

All late night Blue Line trains on the Forest Park branch will be routed to operate on the southbound (to Forest Park) tracks at the Cicero and Pulaski stations from 8 p.m. Friday, May 25 until 8 a.m. the following morning, while crews perform track maintenance.
 
Northbound (to O’Hare) customers at the Cicero and Pulaski stations must board and exit trains from the southbound (to Forest Park) side of the platform.
 
CTA operators will announce the direction of each train. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. 
 

O’Hare Branch: Late Night Boarding Changes at the Harlem Station Next Week

All late night Blue Line trains on the O’Hare branch will be routed to operate on the southbound (to Forest park) tracks at the Harlem station from 10 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning, beginning Tuesday night, May 29 through Friday morning, June 1, while crews perform track maintenance work.  
 
During these times, northbound (to O’Hare) customers at the Harlem station must board and exit trains from the southbound (to Forest Park) side of the platform.
 
CTA operators will announce the direction of each train. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. 
 

Brown Line – Events Affecting Service

Daytime Closure of Main Stairs and Elevator at the Armitage Station

The main stairs and elevator to the northbound (to Kimball) platform of the Armitage Brown Line station will be temporarily closed from 10:45 a.m. until 3 p.m. each day beginning Tuesday, May 29 through Friday, June 1, while crews replace platform decking.
 
During these times, customers will be directed to access the northbound (to Kimball) platform using the auxiliary entrance located on the south side of Armitage Avenue.
 
Access for Customers with Disabilities
Customers at the Armitage station traveling northbound (to Kimball) who require an elevator to access Brown Line trains will need to take a southbound (to the Loop) train to Sedgwick and transfer to a northbound (to Kimball) train.
 
Northbound (to Kimball) customers traveling to the Armitage station who require access to an elevator will need to continue to Fullerton and transfer to a southbound (to the Loop) train.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
 

Red Line – Events Affecting Service

Late Night Boarding Changes at 87th Street Station Next Week

All late night Red Line trains will be routed to operate on the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) tracks at the 87th Street station from 10 p.m. Sunday, May 27 until 4:30 a.m. the following morning, due to track maintenance work.
 
During these times, northbound (to Howard) customers at the 87th Street station must board and exit trains from the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) side of the platform.
 
Next Week
From 10:30 p.m. each night until 4:30 a.m. the following morning beginning Tuesday night, May 29 through Friday morning, June 1, northbound (to Howard) customers at the 87th Street station must board and exit trains from the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) side of the platform.
 
CTA operators will announce the direction of each train. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. 
 

Summer Bus Services

CTA Provides Service to Beaches All Summer Long

Beginning Saturday, May 26 through Labor Day, the CTA will provide weekend and holiday service to area beaches on the #63 63rd, #72 North and the #78 Montrose bus routes.
 
During the summer, the extended service only will be available during the hours beaches are open. Buses will travel to their regular terminals when the beaches are closed. Hours of operation for Chicago beaches vary.
 
Getting to Chicago’s Beaches 
A number of CTA bus routes provide service within walking distance to many local Chicago beaches
 
  • Montrose Avenue Beach is within walking distance of the #81 Lawrence route that terminates at Wilson and Marine and the #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express.
  • Oak Street, North Avenue and most other North Side beaches can be reached from buses that operate near the lakefront, such as the #76 Diversey, #145 Wilson/Michigan Express, #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express, #147 Outer Drive Express and #151 Sheridan. Oak Street beach also is within walking distance of #157 Streeterville/Taylor buses (weekdays only), the #66 Chicago and #3 King Drive routes.
  • Foster Avenue Beach can be reached via the #92 Foster, #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express, #147 Outer Drive Express and #151 Sheridan buses.
  • Hollywood Beach can be reached via the #84 Peterson, #147 Outer Drive Express and #151 Sheridan buses.
  • Loyola Beach can be reached via the #96 Lunt (weekdays only), #147 Outer Drive Express and #155 Devon buses.
  • 57th Street Beach is near CTA’s terminal for #10 Museum of Science & Industry and #55 Garfield buses at the Museum of Science & Industry. The 57th Street Beach also can be reached from #6 Jackson Park Express buses.
  • 31st Street Beach can be reached from #35 35th buses.
  • 12th Street Beach, adjacent to the Adler Planetarium, can be reached from #130 Museum Campus and the #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express buses.
  • Rainbow Beach can be reached by the #6 Jackson Park Express and the #71 71st/South Shore, #75 74th/75th and #79 79th routes.
  • Calumet Park Beach can be reached by the #30 South Chicago route.
  • Ohio Street Beach and Navy Pier can be reached from #29 State, #65 Grand, #66 Chicago and #124 Navy Pier buses.
 

#124 Navy Pier Bus Route Hours Extended

Buses traveling along the #124 Navy Pier route will operate 90 minutes longer in each direction beginning Friday, May 25 until Labor Day. Buses will operate until 11:30 p.m. from Union Station and Ogilvie Transportation Center, and until midnight from Navy Pier.
 

Summer Bus Schedule for the Museum of Science & Industry begins Saturday

The CTA is providing additional weekend and weekday service on its #10 Museum of Science & Industry bus route to accommodate expanded museum hours, beginning Saturday, May 26 through Labor Day. During this time, the museum is open every day from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Buses will operate approximately every 20 minutes on weekdays and weekends.
 

Service along the #130 Museum Campus Route Begins this Weekend

Effective Saturday, May 26, summer service begins along the #130 Museum Campus bus route. From 9:30 a.m. until 6 p.m., #130 buses will operate in both directions between the Ogilvie Transportation Center and Union Station to the Museum Campus on weekdays, weekends and holidays through Labor Day. 
 

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

Soldier Field 10 Mile Race Detours Buses Serving the Museum Campus

From 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday, May 26, Museum Campus Drive from Waldron to McFetridge and Solidarity Drive will be closed to all traffic for the Soldier Field 10 Mile Race.
 
Due to these closures, southbound #130 Museum Campus and #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express buses will be unable to make stops past McFetridge/Solidarity Drive.
 
Southbound #130 and #146 buses instead will operate over their regular routes along Columbus, east on McFetridge for end of route on the south side of the Field Museum. Northbound #130 and #146 buses will operate west on McFetridge over the regular route.
 

Memorial Day Parade Detours 16 Routes on Saturday

From 7 a.m. until approximately 5 p.m. Saturday, May 26, 16 CTA bus routes will be detoured to adjacent streets due to the closure of State Street and all cross streets from Wacker Drive to Van Buren for the annual Memorial Day Parade. The parade steps off at noon.
 
Buses on the #6 Jackson Park Express, #10 Museum of Science & Industry, #14 Jeffery Express, #20 Madison, #29 State, #36 Broadway, #56 Milwaukee, #60 Blue Island/26th, #62 Archer, #124 Navy Pier, #126 Jackson, #130 Museum Campus, #145 Wilson/ Michigan Express, #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express, #147 Outer Drive Express and #151 Sheridan will experience intermittent service delays and will be rerouted to adjacent streets during the parade.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.  
 

Red/Purple Line Viaduct Work Detours #155 Devon Buses This Weekend

From 8 a.m. Saturday, May 26 until approximately 8 a.m. Sunday, May 27, #155 Devon buses will be detoured due to the closure of Morse Avenue between Lunt and Glenwood and, Lunt Avenue between Glenwood and Sheridan for construction work on the Red/Purple Line viaducts.
 
Eastbound #155 buses will travel over the regular route along Ashland past Morse to Greenleaf then will operate via Greenleaf, Sheridan to Morse before beginning westbound service. From Sheridan/Morse, westbound #155 buses will travel south on Sheridan over the regular route.
 

Lake Shore Drive Closes for the Annual Bike the Drive on Sunday

From 4 a.m. until approximately 10:45 a.m. Sunday, May 27, 10 CTA bus routes will be detoured due to the closure of Lake Shore Drive between Bryn Mawr and 57th Street for the annual Bike the Drive event. The ride begins and ends in Grant Park at Columbus and Jackson.

Northbound #6 buses will operate over the regular route along Lake Park Avenue to 47th Street then will travel via 47th Street, King Drive, Cermak, Michigan and then resume the regular route. Southbound #6 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Southbound #10 buses will travel over the regular route along Balbo to Michigan then will operate via Michigan, Cermak, King Drive, 47th Street, Lake Park, 56th Street, Stony Island, 57th Street, Cornell to the west parking lot of the museum before turning to begin northbound service. Northbound #10 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Northbound #14 buses will operate over the regular route along Jeffery Boulevard to 67th Street then will travel via 67th Street, King Drive, Cermak to Michigan and then resume the regular along Michigan past Balbo. 
 
Southbound #14 buses will travel over the regular route along Michigan past Balbo to 47th Street then will operate via 47th Street, Lake Park, 56th Street, Stony Island, 67th Street to Jeffery and then resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #55 buses will operate over the regular route along Garfield to Lake Park then will travel via Lake Park to 47th Street before turning to begin westbound service. Westbound #55 buses will depart from the 47th Street terminal and travel the reverse route.
 
Eastbound #81 buses will travel over the regular route along Lawrence to Clarendon then will operate via Clarendon, Wilson to Marine before beginning westbound service. Westbound #81 buses will operate north on Marine to Lawrence and then resume the regular route. 
 
Eastbound #84 buses will travel over the regular route along Bryn Mawr to Sheridan then will operate via Sheridan, Foster, Broadway, Berwyn, Sheridan to Bryn Mawr before beginning westbound service. Westbound #84 buses will travel west on Bryn Mawr over the regular route. 
 
Southbound #130 buses will travel over the regular route along Roosevelt to Michigan before beginning northbound service. From Wabash/Roosevelt, northbound #130 buses will travel west on Roosevelt and then resume the regular route.
 
Southbound #145 and #146 buses will operate over their regular routes along Lake Shore Drive past Melrose to Inner Lake Shore Drive and then will travel via Inner Lake Shore Drive, Sheridan, Stockton, LaSalle, Inner Lake Shore Drive to Michigan/Oak and then resume their regular routes south along Michigan. Northbound #145 and #146 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Southbound #147 buses will travel over the regular route along Foster to Marine then will operate via Marine, Inner Lake Shore Drive, Sheridan, Cannon, Stockton, LaSalle, Inner Lake Shore Drive to Michigan/Oak and then resume the regular route south along Michigan. Northbound #147 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Monday: Ridge Run Detours #103 West 103rd and #112 Vincennes/111th Buses

On Monday, May 28 from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m., #103 103rd and #112 Vincennes/111th buses will be detoured due to the closure of 103rd Street/Longwood and 111th Street/Longwood for the 35th Annual Ridge Run.
 
Westbound #103 buses will travel over the regular route along 103rd Street to Beverly then will operate via Beverly, 95th Street, Western to 103rd Street and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #103 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Westbound #112 buses will operate over the regular route along Vincennes past Monterey to 119th Street then will travel via 119th Street, Western to 111th Street and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #111 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Temporary Removal of Bus Stop at Lake Park/53rd Street

Effective at 9 a.m. Wednesday, May 30 until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, July 27, the southbound far side stop at Lake Park/53rd Street will be removed from service due to nearby construction. This stop is served by #15 Jeffery Local and #28 Stony Island buses.
 

Ongoing Bus Service Changes 

Saturdays: Near North Farmer’s Market Detours #36 Broadway, #70 Division Buses

From 5 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Saturday through October 27, #36 Broadway and #70 Division buses will be detoured due to the closure of Division Street between State and Clark for the Near North Farmer’s Market.
 
Southbound #36 buses will travel over the regular route along Clark past Division to Maple then will operate via Maple to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along State to Elm then will travel via Elm to Clark and then resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #70 buses will travel over the regular route along Division to Clark and then will operate via Clark, Maple to Dearborn and then resume the regular route. Westbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route. 
 

Sewer Repair Project Detours #43 43rd Buses

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, June 29, #43 43rd buses are being detoured due to the closure of 42nd Place between Ellis and Lake Park avenues for a sewer repair project.
 
Eastbound #43 buses are traveling to 43rd Street/Oakenwald before turning to begin westbound service. From 43rd Street/Oakenwald, westbound #43 buses are operating via Oakenwald, 44th Place, Lake Park to 43rd street and then resuming the regular route.
 

Service Adjustments Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project

Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project, Franklin Street between Harrison and Van Buren and Lower Wacker Drive between Randolph and Harrison are closed until May. As a result of these closures and other street reconfigurations, the following changes in bus service currently are in effect: 
 
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
Northbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses are traveling over the regular route along Harrison to Canal then are operating via Canal, Jackson to Franklin and resuming the regular route. Southbound #11 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes also have been made to bus stops served by northbound #11 buses:
 
  • Canal/Harrison: a far side stop has been added to service.
  • Canal/Jackson: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Jackson at the Chicago River: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • 404 W. Harrison: the mid-block stop has been removed from service.
  • Franklin/Van Buren: the far side stop has been removed from service.
 
#121 Union/Wacker Express
Northbound #121 Union/Wacker Express buses are operating over the regular route along Jackson past Wacker to Franklin then are traveling via Franklin, Lake, Post Place to Lower Wacker and then resuming the regular route.
 
Southbound #121 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand to Wabash then traveling via Wabash, Wacker, Franklin to Adams and then resuming the regular route.
 
#135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express buses are traveling south on Wacker to Jackson then are traveling east on Jackson past Franklin and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #135 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express buses are operating south on Wacker to Van Buren then are traveling via Van Buren, Canal to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #136 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#156 LaSalle (PM Service Only)
During the evening rush period only, northbound #156 LaSalle buses departing from Union Station are traveling west on Van Buren to Wacker then are operating via Wacker to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary bus stop change has been made and is in effect for northbound #156 buses during the evening rush period only: 
 
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 

Temporary Removal of #29 State Bus Stop at State/Pershing

Currently in effect until Friday, June 1, the southbound far side stop at State/Pershing has been removed from service due to nearby construction work. Customers are advised to board southbound #29 buses one block south at 40th Street.
 

Bus Stop at Archer/Cicero Temporarily Removed from Service

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Monday, June 4, the southbound far side bus stop at Archer/Cicero will be temporarily removed from service due to the demolition of a nearby building. This stop is currently served by #62 Archer and #62H Archer/Harlem buses.
 
During this time, customers can board southbound #62 buses at the existing near side stop at Archer/Cicero. Southbound #62H buses will serve the existing stop located at Archer/Lamon.
 

Wacker Drive Stage III Work Affecting 18 Downtown CTA Bus Routes

Currently in effect, 18 CTA bus routes that operate in the downtown area near Adams and Monroe streets at Wacker Drive are operating under temporary service changes, due to work associated with Stage III of the Wacker Drive construction project.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time along these routes:

With the re-opening of Madison Street at Wacker Drive, #19 United Center Express, #20 Madison, #56 Milwaukee and #122 Illinois Center/Ogilvie Express buses have returned to their original routing.

Eastbound #64 Foster/Canfield Buses Detoured for Viaduct Reconstruction Work

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, August 17, eastbound #64 Foster/Canfield buses are being detoured due to the closure of Higgins/Oriole for the reconstruction of the nearby viaduct over the Kennedy Expressway.
 
Eastbound #64 buses are traveling over the regular route along Canfield to Seminole then are operating via Seminole to Higgins and then resuming the regular route. Westbound #64 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 

Bus Stop Changes Due to Kedzie Bridge Reconstruction Work

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Monday, October 1, the following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by #52A South Kedzie, #67 67th/69th/71st and #94 South California due to reconstruction work on the Kedzie Avenue Bridge between Marquette and 71st Street:
 
#52A South Kedzie
  • Kedzie/Marquette: the northbound far side stop has been temporarily relocated to a westbound near side stop on Marquette at Kedzie.
  • Kedzie/71st Street: the southbound far side stop has been temporarily removed from service.
 
#67 67th/69th/71st
  • 71st Street/Kedzie: the westbound near side stop has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop.
 
#94 South California
  • 71st Street/Kedzie: the westbound stop has been temporarily removed from service.
 

Temporary Relocation of #75 74th/75th Bus Stop

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, October 12, the eastbound near side stop at 75th Street/Constance has been relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction. This stop is served by #75 74th/75th buses.
 

New Routing for #24 Wentworth Buses Traveling to 87th/Racine Only

Currently in effect until further notice, the routing of #24 Wentworth buses traveling to 87th Street/Racine only has been changed on a trial basis to serve the new businesses along Holland Road, in response to customer feedback.
 
As a result, southbound and northbound #24 buses (to 87th Street/Racine) are no longer operating on Vincennes between 83rd and 87th streets. Instead, southbound buses are traveling over the regular route along Vincennes to 83rd Street, then operating via 83rd Street, Princeton/Holland, 87th Street to Vincennes and continuing west on 87th Street over the regular route. Northbound buses will travel the reverse.
 

Weekdays Only: Temporary Change in Routing for Northbound #147 Buses

Currently in effect until further notice, from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. on weekdays only northbound #147 Outer Drive Express buses will undergo a temporary change in routing due to heavy traffic congestion on Congress between Michigan and State.
 
From 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. on weekdays only, northbound #147 buses will travel over the regular route along Congress to Michigan then will operate via Michigan, Van Buren to State and then resume the regular route.
 
During all other hours of operation, northbound #147 buses will operate over the regular route via Congress to State. Southbound #147 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 

Temporary Relocation of #72 North Avenue Bus Stop

Currently in effect until approximately 6 p.m. Monday, April 23, 2013, the westbound near side stop at North Avenue/Washtenaw has been relocated to a far side stop. This stop is served by #72 North Avenue buses.
 

Temporary Relocation of Bus Stop at Lake Park/53rd Street

Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Thursday, May 2, 2013, the southbound near side stop at Lake Park/53rd Street has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction work. This stop is served by #6 Jackson Park Express, #X28 Stony Island Express and #171 U of C/Hyde Park buses.
 

Relocation of #36 Broadway Bus Stop Due to Nearby Construction

Currently in effect until Friday, July 12, 2013, the southbound near side stop at Broadway/Elmdale served by #36 Broadway buses has been relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction.
 

Removal of Bus Stop Change Affects Five Routes

Currently in effect until Thursday, August 1, 2013, the mid-block bus stop located at 5800 South Stony Island has been temporarily removed due to construction. This stop is served by the #2 Hyde Park Express, #6 Jackson Park Express, #15 Jeffery Local, #28 Stony Island and #X28 Stony Island Express buses.
