Events Affecting CTA Service Beginning the Weekend of May 22-24

NOTE: All CTA service will operate on a Sunday schedule on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25.

 

Blue Line – Slow Zone Work

Blue Line Service between Clark/Lake and Western/Milwaukee Temporarily Suspended this Weekend

CTA will suspend rail service in the Blue Line Dearborn subway from Clark/Lake to Western/Milwaukee starting at 10 p.m. Friday, May 22 until 4 a.m. Monday, May 25 due to track replacement work.
 
Bus shuttles will operate as a substitute for rail service making stops at Western/Milwaukee, Damen, Division, Chicago, Grand and Clark/Lake. Both the Western/Milwaukee and Clark/Lake stations are accessible to customers with disabilities.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

Red Line – Slow Zone Work

Daytime Reroute of Red Line Trains at Sheridan

A daytime reroute will be in effect for Red Line trains operating in both directions at the Sheridan station from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday, May 23, while crews replace deteriorated rail ties, tie plates and spikes.
 
During this time, northbound and southbound Red Line trains will operate on the Purple Express tracks. Customers at the Sheridan station must board and exit trains from the outer platforms instead of the inner platforms.
 
Next Week
From 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. each day beginning Tuesday, May 26 through Friday, May 29, a daytime reroute will be in effect for Red Line trains operating in both directions at the Sheridan station while crews replace deteriorated rail ties, tie plates and spikes.
 
During these times, northbound and southbound Red Line trains will operate on the Purple Express tracks. Customers at the Sheridan station must board and exit trains from the outer platforms instead of the inner platforms.
 

Red Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Northbound Red Line Trains Undergo Single Track between Sox-35th and Roosevelt

From 1 a.m. until 4 a.m. Wednesday morning, May 27, a late night single track will be in effect for northbound Red Line trains between the Sox-35th and Roosevelt stations due to track maintenance work.
 
Northbound Red Line customers at the Cermak-Chinatown station must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Single Track in Effect for Northbound Red Line Trains on the Dan Ryan Branch

Due to track maintenance work, a late night single track will be in effect for southbound Red Line trains between the 87th Street and 95th Street stations from 11 p.m. Wednesday,
May 27 until 4 a.m. the following morning and then again from 11 p.m. Thursday, May 28 until 4 a.m. the following morning.
 
Southbound Red Line customers at the 87th Street station must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Additional Service for Special Events

#19 United Center Express Service for the NHL Western Conference Finals

CTA will operate its #19 United Center Express buses on the following dates and times for fans attending the Western Conference Finals between the Chicago Blackhawks and the Detroit Red Wings: 
 
  • Game 3 – Friday, May 22 at 7 p.m.
  • Game 4 – Sunday, May 24 at 2 p.m.
  • Game 6 (if needed) – Saturday, May 30 at 7 p.m.
 
Buses will leave every 10 minutes from Michigan and Randolph beginning 90 minutes before the start of the event until the starting time of the event. When the event ends, #19 buses will depart the United Center approximately every 15 minutes for one hour. #19 buses no longer make stops along Michigan Avenue north of Randolph, but continue to make all stops on Madison from Wabash to Clinton. From Clinton, #19 buses run express to the United Center.
 
After the event, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3. On the return trip, #19 buses will operate east on Washington to Wacker, then head south to Monroe and east to Michigan, making all stops from Jefferson to Michigan before turning north on Michigan and making the final stop at Randolph.
 

Summer Bus Services

CTA Provides Bus Service to Chicago’s Beaches

The Chicago Transit Authority will provide weekend and holiday service to area beaches on the #63 63rd, #72 North and the #78 Montrose bus routes beginning Saturday, May 23 through Labor Day, Monday, September 7. Beaches are open from 9 a.m. until 8:30 p.m.
 
During the weekday summer service schedule, the extended service only will be available during the hours beaches are open. The bus routes will travel to their regular terminals when the beaches are closed.

Increased Bus Service to Museum of Science & Industry beginning Saturday

The CTA is providing additional weekend and weekday service on its #10 Museum of Science & Industry bus route to accommodate expanded museum hours, beginning Saturday, May 23. Buses will operate approximately every 20 minutes on weekends and Memorial Day. Weekday service on this route will begin on Tuesday, May 26, and will operate every 20 minutes.
 

#124 Navy Pier Bus Route Hours Extended beginning Saturday

Bus service along the #124 Navy Pier route, between downtown and Navy Pier will operate 90 minutes longer in each direction beginning Saturday, May 23 until Labor Day, Monday, September 7. Buses will operate until 11:30 p.m. from Union Station and Ogilvie Transportation Center, and until midnight from Navy Pier.
 

Service along the #130 Grant Park Treasures Route Begins this Weekend

Effective Saturday, May 23, summer service begins along the #130 Grant Park Treasures bus route. From 9:30 a.m. until 6 p.m., #130 buses will operate in both directions between the Ogilvie Transportation Center and Union Station to the Museum Campus on weekends and holidays through Labor Day. 
 
NOTE: The schedule for the #130 route will be tested on Bus Tracker during the first few weeks of operation. Customers will be able to access arrival times for #130 buses when testing is completed.  
 

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

UPDATE: #24 Wentworth Buses Resume Normal Routing  

#24 Wentworth buses have returned to their original routing due to the postponement of work on the LaSalle Street Bridge. Until further notice, the northbound lane of LaSalle Street between 28th and 26th streets will be open to all traffic.
 

#24 Wentworth Bus Stop Changes

  • The northbound stop at LaSalle/31st Street has been returned to a far side stop.
  • The westbound near side stop along 26th Street at Wentworth has been returned to a northbound near side stop on Wentworth at 26th Street.
 

Changes to CTA Bus Stops

Effectively immediately, changes in bus stops will be made along the following routes:
 
#20 Madison and #X20 Washington/Madison Express
The eastbound far side stop at Madison/Laramie served by #20 and #X20 buses will be relocated to a near side stop.
 
#53 Pulaski
The southbound far side stop at Pulaski/16th Street served by #53 buses will be relocated to a near side stop.
 

Memorial Day Parade Closes Downtown Streets Saturday

State Street and its cross streets from Wacker Drive to Van Buren will be closed from 9:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, May 23 for the Memorial Day Parade. 
 
Buses on the #6 Jackson Park Express, #10 Museum of Science & Industry, #14 Jeffery Express, #20 Madison, #29 State, #36 Broadway, #56 Milwaukee, #60 Blue Island/26th, #62 Archer, #124 Navy Pier, #126 Jackson, #130 Grant Park Treasures, #145 Wilson/ Michigan Express, #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express, #147 Outer Drive Express and #151 Sheridan may experience intermittent service delays and may be rerouted to adjacent streets during the parade. Customers should allow extra travel time.  
 

Lake Shore Drive Closes for Bike the Drive Sunday

On Sunday, May 24 from 5 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., Lake Shore Drive between Bryn Mawr and 57th Street will be closed for the annual Bike the Drive. The ride begins and ends in Grant Park at Columbus and Jackson. Several CTA bus routes will be rerouted during the event.
 
Northbound #6 Jackson Park Express buses will operate over the regular route along Lake Park Avenue to 47th Street then will travel via 47th Street, King Drive, Cermak, Michigan and then resume the regular route. Southbound #6 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Southbound #10 Museum of Science & Industry buses will travel over the regular route along Michigan past Balbo to Cermak then will operate via Cermak, King Drive, 47th Street, Lake Park, 56th Street, Stony Island, 57th Street, Cornell to the west parking lot of the museum for end of route. Northbound #10 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Northbound #14 Jeffery Express buses will operate over the regular route along Jeffery Boulevard to 67th Street then will travel via 67th Street, King Drive, Cermak to Michigan and then resume the regular along Michigan past Balbo. 
 
Southbound #14 buses will travel over the regular route along Washington to Wacker then will operate via Wacker, Monroe, State, Washington, Michigan, 47th Street,  Lake Park, 56th Street, Stony Island, 67th Street to Jeffery and then resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #55 Garfield buses will operate over the regular route along 55th Street to Lake Park then will travel via Lake Park to 47th Street for the end of route and start of westbound service. Westbound #55 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Eastbound #81 Lawrence buses will travel over the regular route along Lawrence to Clarendon then will operate via Clarendon, Wilson to Marine for end of route and start of westbound service. Westbound #81 buses will operate north on Marine to Lawrence and then resume the regular route. 
 
Eastbound #84 Peterson buses will travel over the regular route along Bryn Mawr to Sheridan then will operate Sheridan, Foster, Broadway, Berwyn, Sheridan to Bryn Mawr for the end of route and start of westbound service. Westbound #84 buses will travel west on Bryn Mawr over the regular route. 
 
Southbound #145 Wilson/Michigan Express and #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express buses will operate over their regular routes along Lake Shore Drive past Melrose to Inner Lake Shore Drive and then will travel via Inner Lake Shore Drive, Sheridan, Stockton, LaSalle, Inner Lake Shore Drive to Oak and then resume their regular routes south along Michigan. Northbound #145 and #146 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Southbound #147 Outer Drive Express buses will travel over the regular route along Foster to Marine then will operate via Marine, Inner Lake Shore Drive, Sheridan, Stockton, LaSalle, Inner Lake Shore Drive to Oak and then resume the regular route south along Michigan. Northbound #147 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Ongoing Bus Reroutes

Temporary Bus Stop Changes along the #55 Garfield and #X55 Garfield Express Routes

Due to construction, the eastbound and westbound bus stops at 55th Street/St. Louis served by #55 Garfield and #X55 Garfield Express buses will be temporarily relocated until Monday, June 1.
 
Eastbound customers will board and exit buses from the near side stop at 55th Street/Homan. Westbound customers will board and exit buses from the near side stop at 55th Street/Millard.
 

Temporary Relocation of Bus Terminal at Ford City Mall

Until 3 p.m. Monday, June 8, the CTA bus terminal located at Ford City Mall will be temporarily relocated approximately 800 feet southeast due to construction. This terminal is served by #54B South Cicero and #79 79th buses.
 

#60 Blue Island/26th Buses Rerouted Due to Construction

Until Friday, July 17, #60 Blue Island/26th buses operating in both directions will be rerouted due to the closure of Laflin Street between Cermak and 21st Street and the closure of Loomis Street between Cermak and 18th Street. The street closures are due to construction work at the Benito Juarez School campus.
 
Eastbound #60 Blue Island buses will operate over the regular route along Blue Island to Ashland then will travel via Ashland, 18th Street to Loomis/Blue Island and then resume the regular route along Blue Island. Westbound #60 buses will travel over the regular route along Blue Island past Laflin to 21st Street then will operate via 21st Street, Ashland to Cermak/Blue Island and then resume the regular route along Blue Island.
 

Buses Rerouted on Saturdays for the Near North Farmer’s Market

From 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Saturday beginning May 16 through October 31, Division Street between State and Clark will be closed for the Near North Farmer’s Market.
 
Southbound #36 Broadway buses will travel over the regular route along Clark past Division to Maple then will operate via Maple to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along State to Elm then will travel via Elm to Clark and then resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #70 Division buses will travel over the regular route along Division to Clark and then will operate via Clark, Maple to Dearborn and then resume the regular route. Westbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.  
 

Buses Rerouted Due to Construction on Milwaukee Avenue

Eastbound #81W West Lawrence and northbound #91 Austin buses will be rerouted until Monday, November 30, due to construction on Milwaukee Avenue between Gale Street and Montrose Avenue.
 
Eastbound #81W West Lawrence and northbound #91 Austin buses will travel over their regular routes to Lawrence/Milwaukee to a far side stop then will continue eastbound on Lawrence to Lipps, heading north on Lipps to enter the Jefferson Park bus terminal. Westbound #81W and southbound #91 buses are not affected and will travel along their regular routes.
