Brown Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Brown Line Trains Unable to Enter Loop Early Sunday Morning

Brown Line trains will be unable to enter the Loop from approximately 7:15 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Sunday, May 23, due to structural maintenance work on the Wells Street Bridge.

During this time, shuttle buses will replace rail service between the Merchandise Mart and the Clark/Lake stations. Brown Line trains will operate normally between the Kimball and Merchandise Mart stations.

Customers can use Orange, Green and Pink line trains to travel between Clark/Lake and other Loop stations.

A shuttle train also will operate around the Loop, counterclockwise via the Outer Loop (Brown Line) tracks.

Customers can use the Red Line subway for alternate service to and from downtown. Free transfers between Red and Brown line trains can be made at the Belmont and Fullerton stations.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. Operators will announce the route and direction of each train.

Orange Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Trains Undergo Late Night Single Track between the 35th/Archer and Ashland Stations

A late night single track will be in effect for northbound Orange Line trains between the 35th/Archer and Ashland stations from 9 p.m. until the end of service (approximately midnight) on Sunday, May 23 and then again from 9 p.m. Monday, May 24 until the end of service (approximately 1:30 a.m.), due to routine track maintenance.

During these times, northbound Orange Line customers at the Ashland station must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Late Night Single Track in Effect between the Ashland and Halsted Stations Next Week

A late night single track will be in effect for northbound Orange Line trains between the Ashland and Halsted stations from 9 p.m. each night until the end of service (approximately 1:30 a.m.) on Tuesday night, May 25, Wednesday night, May 26 and Thursday night, May 27, due to routine track maintenance.

During these times, northbound Orange Line customers at the Halsted station must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Blue Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Late Night Single Track in Effect between the Jefferson Park and Montrose Stations

Southbound Blue Line trains will undergo a late night single track between the Jefferson Park and Montrose stations from 10 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the next morning on Monday night, May 24 until Friday night, May 28, due to construction. 

During these times, southbound Blue Line customers at the Montrose station must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Purple Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Southbound Trains Undergo Daytime Reroute on Saturday

From 6:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday, May 22, southbound Purple Line trains will undergo a single track between the Central and Davis stations. 

Southbound customers at the Noyes and Foster stations must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.  CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Red Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Northbound Trains Undergo Late Night Single Track at the 79th Street Station

A late night single track will be in effect for southbound Red Line trains at the 79th Street station from 11 p.m. Friday, May 21 until 4 a.m. the following morning, due to station repair work.

Southbound Red Line customers at the 79th Street station must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.
   
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Late Night Single Track in Effect at the North/Clybourn Station This Weekend

Southbound Red Line trains will undergo a late night single track at the North/Clybourn station from 11 p.m. Saturday, May 22 until 6 a.m. the following morning and then again from 11 p.m. Sunday, May 23 until 4 a.m. the following morning, due to station refurbishment work.

During these times, southbound Red Line customers at the North/Clybourn station must board and exit trains from the northbound platform. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Trains Undergo Late Night Single Track at the 47th Street Station Early Next Week

A late night single track will be in effect for Red Line trains at the 47th Street station two nights next week while crews make station improvements.

Monday Night – Northbound at 47th

From 11 p.m. Monday, May 24 until 4 a.m. the following morning, northbound Red Line customers at the 47th Street station must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Tuesday Night – Southbound at 47th

From 11 p.m. Tuesday, May 25 until 4 a.m. the following morning, southbound Red Line customers at the 47th Street station must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Service for Upcoming Events

#19 United Center Express Serves Upcoming Playoff Games

CTA will operate its #19 United Center Express for fans attending the Stanley Cup playoff games at the United Center between the San Jose Sharks and Chicago Blackhawks on the following dates and times:
 

  • Game 3 – Friday, May 21 at 7 p.m.
  • Game 4 – Sunday, May 23 at 2 p.m.
  • Game 6* – Thursday, May 27 at 7 p.m.

*only if needed

Buses will leave every 12-15 minutes from Michigan and Randolph beginning 90 minutes before the start of each event until the event begins.  When the event ends, #19 buses will depart the United Center approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.
 
#19 buses no longer make stops along Michigan Avenue north of Randolph, but continue to make all stops on Madison from Wabash to Clinton.  From Clinton, #19 buses run express to the United Center.

After each game, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3.  On the return trip, #19 buses will operate east on Washington to Wacker, then head south to Monroe and east to Michigan, making all stops from Jefferson to Michigan before turning north on Michigan and making the final stop at Randolph.

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

#36 Broadway Bus Stop at Broadway/Wilson Temporarily Relocated

Currently in effect until Wednesday, June 16, the southbound far side stop at Broadway/Wilson served by #36 Broadway buses temporarily has been relocated to a near side stop due to sidewalk construction work.

#49A South Western Bus Stop at Western/York Temporarily Eliminated

Currently in effect until Thursday, June 17, the southbound near side stop at Western/York served by #49A South Western buses temporarily has been eliminated due to nearby construction.

Helicopter Lift Detours #9 Ashland and #126 Jackson Buses on Saturday

From 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 22, Ashland between Harrison and Congress and Congress Parkway will be closed to all traffic due to a helicopter lift in the 1600 block of Harrison.

Northbound #9 Ashland buses will operate over the regular route along Ashland to Harrison then will travel via Harrison, Racine, Van Buren to Ashland and then resume the regular route. Southbound #9 buses will operate over the regular route along Ashland to Jackson then will travel via Jackson, Racine, Harrison to Ashland and then resume the regular route.

Eastbound #126 Jackson buses will travel over the regular route along Jackson to Damen then will continue east on Jackson past Ashland over the regular route. Westbound #126 buses will travel over the regular route along Van Buren past Ashland to Damen then will operate via Damen and resume the regular route.

Buses Rerouted for the Alivio Y Salud Run and Walk on Saturday

From 8:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, May 22, 18th Street between Blue Island and Wolcott, and Blue Island between Ashland  and Western will be closed to all traffic due to the Alivio Y Salud Run and Walk. During this time, five CTA bus routes will be detoured.

Northbound #9 Ashland buses will operate over the regular route along Ashland to the Orange Line then will head south on Ashland to Archer then will travel via Archer, Halsted, Roosevelt and return to Ashland and then resume the regular northbound route. Southbound #9 buses will travel the reverse route.

Eastbound #18 16th/18th buses will travel over the regular route along 18th Street to Damen then will operate via Damen, Roosevelt and then resume the regular route east past Halsted. Westbound #18 buses will travel the reverse route.

Eastbound #21 Cermak buses will operate over the regular route along Cermak to Western then will travel via Western, Roosevelt, Halsted to Cermak and then resume the regular route. Westbound #21 buses will travel the reverse route.

Northbound #50 Damen buses will depart from the Orange Line terminal at 35th/Archer and travel southwest on Archer to Western then will operate via Western, Roosevelt to Damen and then resume the regular route. Southbound #50 buses will travel the reverse route.

Eastbound #60 Blue Island/26th buses will operate over the regular route along Blue Island to Western then will travel via Western, Roosevelt to Racine and then resume the regular route. Westbound #60 buses will travel the reverse route.

#76 Diversey Buses Temporarily Detoured from Entering the Diversey/Neva Terminal

Beginning at 5 a.m. Monday, May 24 until 5 a.m. Wednesday, June 2, westbound #76 Diversey buses will be unable to enter the CTA bus terminal at Diversey/Neva due to driveway reconstruction work.

Westbound #76 buses will travel over the regular route along Diversey past Neva to Harlem then will operate via Harlem, Belmont, Octavia (through the bus terminal) then will travel east on Belmont to Harlem, Diversey to Neva for the end of route and start of eastbound service. Eastbound #76 buses will travel over the regular route.

Bus Stop at Lake Park/50th Street Reinstated

The northbound mid-block stop on the 5000 block of S. Lake Park Avenue will be reinstated effective at the start of service on Monday, May 24, following the completion of construction work at the nearby Metra station. This stop is served by #2 Hyde Park Express, #6 Jackson Park Express, #28 Stony Island and #X28 Stony Island Express buses.

Reinstatement of #36 Broadway Bus Stop at State/Delaware

Effective at the start of service on Monday, May 24, the southbound near side stop at State/Delaware served by #36 Broadway buses will be reinstated following the completion of nearby construction.

Ongoing Bus Reroutes

Temporary Relocation of #93 California/Dodge Bus Stop

Currently in effect until Thursday, May 27, the southbound curb lane of California Avenue at Granville is closed to all traffic due to construction. As a result of this lane closure, the southbound near side stop at California/Granville served by #93 California/Dodge buses temporarily has been relocated approximately 175 feet north.

Temporary Relocation of #126 Jackson Bus Stop at Jackson/Kedzie

Currently in effect until Friday, May 28, the westbound far side stop at Jackson/Kedzie temporarily has been relocated to a near side stop due to nearby construction.

Bridge Closure Temporarily Reroutes Two CTA Bus Routes

The Ewing Street Bridge over the Calumet River at 3331 East 92nd Street is closed to all traffic for bridge repairs until Monday, May 31. As a result, #26 South Shore Express and #30 South Chicago buses are undergoing a temporary reroute.

Southbound #26 and #30 buses will travel over the regular route to 91st Street/Mackinaw then will operate via Mackinaw, Harbor, South Chicago, 95th Street to Ewing and then resume the regular route.

Northbound buses will travel over the regular route to Ewing/95th Street then will operate via 95th Street, South Chicago, Harbor, Mackinaw to 91st Street and then resume the regular route.

Sewer Construction Work Temporarily Detours #78 Montrose Buses

Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Friday, June 4, Montrose Avenue between Paulina and Greenview is closed to all traffic due to a sewer construction project.

Eastbound #78 Montrose buses are traveling over the regular route along Montrose to Damen then operating via Damen, Wilson and then resuming the regular route east on Wilson past Clark. Westbound #78 buses are traveling the reverse route.

#72 Bus Stop at North/Clybourn Red Line Station Temporarily Relocated Due to Construction

Currently in effect until Wednesday, June 30, the eastbound mid-block stop in front of the station that is served by #72 North Avenue buses temporarily has been relocated to a near side stop at the intersection of North/Clybourn. The relocation is due to construction at the North/Clybourn Red Line station.

In addition, a temporary far side stop at the North Avenue/Halsted intersection has been added. This stop will be served by #72 buses.

#81 Lawrence Bus Stops near the Kennedy Expressway Temporarily Eliminated

Currently in effect until Tuesday, August 31, the eastbound and westbound near side bus stops on Lawrence at LeClaire served by #81 Lawrence buses temporarily have been removed from service due to rehabilitation work on the Lawrence Avenue viaduct.

Temporary Elimination of Bus Stop at Michigan/Delaware

Currently in effect until Tuesday, August 31, the southbound near side stop at Michigan/Delaware temporarily has been removed from service due to sidewalk reconstruction work.

This stop is served by #33 Mag Mile Express, #143 Stockton/Michigan Express, #144 Marine/Michigan Express, #145 Wilson/Michigan Express, #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express, #147 Outer Drive Express, #148 Clarendon/Michigan Express and #151 Sheridan buses.

Customers may board and exit these buses from the near side stop at Michigan/Pearson.

#111 Pullman/111th/115th Buses Undergo Reroutes Due to Bridge Repair Work

Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Sunday, October 31, the 111th Street Bridge over Interstate 57 (I-57) is closed to all traffic due to bridge and deck replacement work.

Southbound #111 Pullman/111th/115th buses are operating over the regular route along 111th Street to Marshfield then traveling via Marshfield, 112th Place, Hamlet to 111th Street and then resuming the regular route east on 111th Street.

Northbound #111 buses are traveling over the regular route along 111th Street to Throop then operating via Throop, 107th Street, Vincennes and then resuming the regular route south on Vincennes past 111th Street.

Temporary Removal of #126 Jackson Bus Stop at Jackson/Sangamon

Currently in effect until Friday, September 30, 2011, the eastbound far side stop at Jackson/Sangamon served by #126 Jackson buses temporarily has been removed from service due to nearby construction. Customers may board and exit eastbound #126 buses at either Jackson/Morgan or Jackson/Peoria.

Buses Rerouted on Saturdays for the Near North Farmer’s Market

From 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Saturday through October 30, Division Street between State and Clark will be closed for the Near North Farmer’s Market.

Southbound #36 Broadway buses will travel over the regular route along Clark past Division to Maple then will operate via Maple to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along State to Elm then will travel via Elm to Clark and then resume the regular route.

Eastbound #70 Division buses will travel over the regular route along Division to Clark and then will operate via Clark, Maple to Dearborn and then resume the regular route. Westbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.

Temporary Relocation of Bus Stop at Jeffery/75th Street

Currently in effect until further notice, the southbound far side bus stop at Jeffery/75th Street temporarily has been relocated to a near side stop due to nearby sidewalk construction. This stop is served by southbound #14 Jeffery Express and #15 Jeffery Local buses.

#56 Milwaukee Bus Stop at Milwaukee/Diversey Temporarily Relocated

Until further notice, the southbound near side bus stop at Milwaukee/Diversey served by #56 Milwaukee buses temporarily has been relocated to a far side stop.

Lane Restrictions near State and Grand Detour #29 State and #36 Broadway Buses

Due to lane restrictions associated with the Grand/State Red Line rehabilitation project at the northwest corner of State Street and Grand Avenue, #29 State and #36 Broadway buses are being detoured to adjacent streets until further notice.

Southbound #29 State buses are operating over the regular route along Grand past State to Clark then traveling via Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route.
Northbound #29 buses are traveling along the remaining open lane along State and over the regular route.

Southbound #36 Broadway buses are traveling over the regular route along State to Ontario then operating via Ontario, Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #36 buses are operating over the regular route along Dearborn past Illinois to Ohio then traveling via Ohio to State and resuming the regular route.

Temporary Changes to Bus Stops near Sheridan/Foster

Currently in effect until further notice, the northbound near side stop at Sheridan/Foster temporarily has been removed from service due to the demolition and reconstruction of a nearby building. This stop is served by #136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express, #147 Outer Drive Express and #151 Sheridan buses.

Service Adjustments Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project

Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project, several streets in the downtown area have been closed or reconfigured until Monday, April 2, 2012. As a result of these closures and reconfigurations, the following changes in service along three CTA bus routes currently are in effect:

#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick

Van Buren Street between Canal and Clinton has been reconfigured to accommodate westbound traffic only. As a result, the southbound near side bus stop at Van Buren/Canal served by #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses has been relocated to a far side stop. 

#121 Union Wacker Express

Lower Wacker Drive between Harrison and Randolph is closed to all traffic due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project. During this time #121 Union/Wacker Express buses are being detoured to adjacent streets.

Northbound #121 Union/Wacker Express buses are operating over the regular route along Jackson past Wacker to Franklin then are traveling via Franklin, Lake, Post Place to Lower Wacker and then resuming the regular route.

Southbound #121 buses will operate over the regular route along Lower Wacker to the exit ramp for Upper Wacker and then travel via Upper Wacker to Adams and resume the regular route west on Adams.

#124 Navy Pier

Van Buren Street between Canal and Clinton has been reconfigured to accommodate westbound traffic only.

Westbound #124 Navy Pier buses are traveling over the regular route along Clinton past Van Buren to Harrison then are operating via Harrison to Canal and resuming the regular route north on Canal. Eastbound #124 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
