Blue Line – Slow Zone Work

Blue Line Service between Clark/Lake and Western/Milwaukee Temporarily Suspended this Weekend

CTA will suspend rail service in the Blue Line Dearborn subway from Clark/Lake to Western/Milwaukee starting at 10 p.m. Friday, May 1 until 4 a.m. Monday, May 4 due to track replacement work.
 
Bus shuttles will operate as a substitute for rail service making stops at Western/Milwaukee, Damen, Division, Chicago, Grand and Clark/Lake. CTA customers are advised to allow extra travel time. Both the Western/Milwaukee and Clark/Lake stations are accessible to customers with disabilities.

Boarding Changes at the Rosemont Blue Line Station Wednesday Night

From 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 6 until 4 a.m. the following morning, a single track will be in effect for southbound Blue Line trains at the Rosemont station.
 
Southbound Blue Line customers at the Rosemont station must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Red Line – Slow Zone Work

Daytime Reroute of Red Line Trains at Sheridan

A daytime reroute will be in effect for Red Line trains operating in both directions at the Sheridan station from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday, May 2, while crews replace deteriorated rail ties, tie plates and spikes.
 
During this time, northbound and southbound Red Line trains will operate on the Purple Express tracks. Customers at the Sheridan station must board and exit trains from the outer platforms instead of the inner platforms.
 
Next Week
From 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. each day beginning Tuesday, May 5 through Friday,May 8, a daytime reroute will be in effect for Red Line trains operating in both directions at the Sheridan station while crews replace deteriorated rail ties, tie plates and spikes.
 
During these times, northbound and southbound Red Line trains will operate on the Purple Express tracks. Customers at the Sheridan station must board and exit trains from the outer platforms instead of the inner platforms.
 

Blue Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Late Night Single Track in Effect for Blue Line Trains in the Subway Next Week

A late night single track will be in effect for northbound Blue Line trains between the LaSalle and Grand stations from 9 p.m. Monday, May 5 until 4 a.m. the following morning, due to signal upgrade work.
 
Northbound Blue Line customers at the Jackson, Monroe, Washington and Clark/Lake stations must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 
Tuesday, May 5 – Southbound
From 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 5 until 4 a.m. the following morning, southbound Blue Line trains will undergo a late night single track between the Grand and LaSalle stations as signal upgrade work continues.
 
Southbound Blue Line customers at the Clark/Lake, Washington, Monroe and Jackson stations must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Red Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Red Line Subway Trains Temporarily Rerouted to Elevated Tracks This Weekend

Red Line trains will be rerouted from the subway to the elevated structure in one direction on Friday night and the opposite direction on Saturday night this weekend.
 
Friday, May 1 – Northbound
Northbound Red Line trains between the Cermak-Chinatown and Fullerton stations will be rerouted from the subway to the elevated tracks from 9 p.m. Friday, May 1 until  9 a.m. the following morning.
 
Northbound customers are advised to allow extra travel time. 
 
Northbound Red Line trains will operate normally between the Fullerton and Howard stations and between the 95th Street and Cermak-Chinatown stations.
 
Saturday, May 2 – Southbound
Southbound service on the Red Line will be rerouted to the elevated tracks between Fullerton and Cermak-Chinatown from 9 p.m. Saturday, May 2 until 9 a.m. the following morning.
 
Southbound customers are advised to allow extra travel time. 
 
Southbound Red Line trains will operate normally between the Howard and Fullerton stations and between the Cermak-Chinatown and 95th Street stations. 
 
Red Line trains will resume normal service through the subway after 9 a.m. Sunday morning.

Late Night Single Track for Red Line Trains between 63rd Street and Garfield

A late night single track will be in effect for northbound Red Line trains between the 63rd Street and Garfield stations from 11 p.m. Sunday, May 3 until 4 a.m. the following morning due to track maintenance work.
 
Northbound Red Line customers at the Garfield station must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Polk Entrance to Red Line Harrison Station to Undergo Temporary Closure

The Polk auxiliary entrance, which is located on the southwest corner of the Red Line’s Harrison station, will be temporarily closed from 4 a.m. Monday, May 4 until 4 a.m. Monday, May 11. The Polk Street entrance is being closed while crews install equipment that will allow it to serve as the primary entrance for the Harrison station for the next several months. 
 
Upon the reopening of the Polk Street entrance, the Harrison Street entrance will close for five months in order to replace the escalator that connects the mezzanine to the platform.

Two-Phase Single Track in Effect for Red Line Trains on Monday Night

As crews continue track maintenance work along the Red Line, a two-phase late night single track will be in effect for northbound trains between the 63rd Street and 47th Street stations from 11 p.m. Monday, May 4 until 4 a.m. the following morning.
 
Phase I – 63rd Street to Garfield
From 11 p.m. Monday, May 4 until 1 a.m. the following morning, northbound Red Line customers at the Garfield station must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.
 
Phase II – 63rd Street to 47th Street
From 1 a.m. until 4 a.m. Tuesday, May 5, northbound Red Line customers at the Garfield and 47th Street stations must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Southbound Red Line Trains Undergo Single Track between 47th Street and Garfield

A late night single track will be in effect for southbound Red Line trains between the 47th Street and Garfield stations from 11 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Tuesday night, May 5 through Friday morning, May 8, due to track maintenance work.
 
Southbound Red Line customers at the 47th Street station must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Additional Service for Special Events

#19 United Center Express Service for the Blackhawks Playoff Games

CTA will operate its #19 United Center Express for fans attending the conference semifinal playoff games at the United Center between the Vancouver Canucks and Chicago Blackhawks on the following dates and times: 
 
  • Game 3 – Tuesday, May 5 at 7 p.m.
  • Game 4 – Thursday, May 7 at 7 p.m.
  • Game 6 (if necessary) – Monday, May 11 at 8 p.m.
 
Buses will leave every 10 minutes from Michigan and Randolph beginning 90 minutes before the start of the game until the starting time of the game. When the game ends, #19 buses will depart the United Center approximately every 15 minutes for one hour. #19 buses no longer make stops along Michigan Avenue north of Randolph, but continue to make all stops on Madison from Wabash to Clinton. From Clinton, #19 buses run express to the United Center.
 
After the game, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3. On the return trip, #19 buses will operate east on Washington to Wacker, then head south to Monroe and east to Michigan, making all stops from Jefferson to Michigan before turning north on Michigan and making the final stop at Randolph.
 

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

Polish Constitution Day Parade in Grant Park Detours Buses on Saturday

Columbus Drive will be closed between Balbo and Monroe on Saturday, May 2 from 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. for the Polish Constitution Day Parade. Participants will assemble on Columbus between Roosevelt and Balbo beginning at 10 a.m.
 
Northbound #6 Jackson Park Express, #10 Museum of Science & Industry and #14 Jeffery Express buses will travel over their regular routes along Columbus to Roosevelt then will operate via Roosevelt to Michigan and then resume their regular routes. Southbound #6, #10 and #14 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Five Routes Temporarily Detoured in the Loop Saturday Afternoon

Madison Street between Franklin and Wacker will be closed to all traffic on Saturday, May 2 from 2:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m.
 
Northbound #14 Jeffery Express and #56 Milwaukee buses will operate over their regular routes along Madison to Franklin then will travel via Franklin, Randolph, Wacker to Madison and then resume their regular routes. Southbound #14 and #56 buses will travel their regular routes.
 
Westbound #20 Madison, #60 Blue Island/26th and #124 Navy Pier buses will travel over their regular routes along Madison to Franklin then will operate via Franklin, Randolph, Wacker to Madison and then resume their regular routes. Eastbound #20, #56 and #124 buses will travel their regular routes.
 

Buses Rerouted on Saturday for Cinco de Mayo Parade

Cermak Road will be closed between Ashland and Marshall on Sunday, May 3 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. for the Cinco de Mayo Parade. Parade participants will begin assembling at Cermak/Damen at 9 a.m. The parade will step-off at noon and will proceed on Cermak to Marshall then will travel Marshall, 24th Street to California and disband.
 
Eastbound #21 Cermak buses will operate over the regular route along Cermak to Kedzie then will travel via Kedzie, 26th Street/Blue Island to Cermak and then resume the regular route. Westbound #21 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Northbound #49 Western buses will travel over the regular route along Western to 26th Street then will operate via 26th Street, Kedzie, Ogden to Western and then resume the regular route. Southbound #49 buses will operate the reverse route.
 
Northbound #50 Damen buses will operate over the regular route along Damen to Blue Island then will travel via Blue Island, Ashland, 18th Street to Damen and then resume the regular route. Southbound #50 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Northbound #94 South California buses will travel over the regular route along California to 26th Street then will operate via 26th Street, Kedzie, Ogden to California and then resume the regular route. Southbound #94 buses will operate the reverse route.
 

Street Repairs along the Wells Street Bridge Briefly Detour Buses on Monday

The Wells Street Bridge over the main branch of the Chicago River will be closed to all traffic from 10 a.m. until noon on Monday, May 4, due to roadway barrier repairs.
 
Southbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick and #125 Water Tower Express buses will operate over their regular routes along Wells to Kinzie then will travel via Kinzie, LaSalle, Wacker to Wells and then resume their regular routes. Northbound #11 and #125 buses are not affected and will travel their regular routes.
 

Ongoing Bus Reroutes

Ewing Avenue Bridge Closure Temporarily Detours #26 and #30 Buses

The Ewing Avenue Bridge over the Calumet River is closed to all traffic until 3 p.m. Friday, May 8, due to bridge repair work.
 
Northbound #26 South Shore Express and #30 South Chicago buses will operate over their regular routes along Ewing to 95th Street then will travel via 95th Street, South Chicago, South Harbor to Mackinaw and then resume their regular routes. Southbound #26 and #30 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Water Main Construction Reroutes Buses until May 12

Due to water main construction, 16th Street is closed between California and Washtenaw from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily until Tuesday, May 12. 
 
Eastbound #18 16th/18th buses will travel over the regular route to Ogden/California then will operate via Ogden, Washtenaw to 16th and then resume the regular route. Westbound buses are not affected and will travel along the regular route.
 
Westbound #38 Ogden/Taylor buses will travel over the regular route to Western/Ogden then will operate via Western, 16th to Washtenaw and then resume the regular route. Eastbound buses are not affected and will travel along the regular route.
 

Temporary Relocation of #78 Montrose Bus Stop

Due to sewer construction work along Montrose Avenue, the eastbound near side bus stop at Montrose/Damen will be temporarily relocated approximately 150 feet west until Wednesday, May 13.
 

Temporary Relocation of Bus Terminal at Ford City Mall

Until 3 p.m. Monday, June 8, the CTA bus terminal located at Ford City Mall will be temporarily relocated approximately 800 feet southeast due to construction. This terminal is served by #54B South Cicero and #79 79th buses.
 

#60 Blue Island/26th Buses Rerouted Due to Construction

Until Friday, July 17, #60 Blue Island/26th buses operating in both directions will be rerouted due to the closure of Laflin Street between Cermak and 21st Street and the closure of Loomis Street between Cermak and 18th Street. The street closures are due to construction work at the Benito Juarez School campus.
 
Eastbound #60 Blue Island buses will operate over the regular route along Blue Island to Ashland then will travel via Ashland, 18th Street to Loomis/Blue Island and then resume the regular route along Blue Island.
 
Westbound #60 buses will travel over the regular route along Blue Island past Laflin to 21st Street then will operate via 21st Street, Ashland to Cermak/Blue Island and then resume the regular route along Blue Island.
 

Buses Rerouted Due to Construction on Milwaukee Avenue

Eastbound #81W West Lawrence and northbound #91 Austin buses will be rerouted until Monday, November 30, due to construction on Milwaukee Avenue between Gale Street and Montrose Avenue.
 
Eastbound #81W West Lawrence and northbound #91 Austin buses will travel over their regular routes to Lawrence/Milwaukee to a far side stop then will continue eastbound on Lawrence to Lipps, heading north on Lipps to enter the Jefferson Park bus terminal. Westbound #81W and southbound #91 buses are not affected and will travel along their regular routes.
 

Bus Stop Relocated Due to Construction at Chestnut and Lake Shore Drive

The bus stop located at Chestnut and Lake Shore Drive served by #10 Museum of Science & Industry and #157 Streeterville buses has been relocated due to construction. Customers must board and exit #157 buses at Inner Lake Shore Drive and Pearson.
 
#10 customers should board on Chestnut between Mies van der Rohe and Michigan or on Michigan southbound at Pearson.
 

Temporary Removal of Bus Stops at Cottage Grove/57th Street

The northbound far side and southbound near side bus stops near the intersection of Cottage Grove and 57th Street will be temporarily removed until further notice due to sewer repair work. These bus stops are served by northbound and southbound #2 Hyde Park Express, #4 Cottage Grove and #X4 Cottage Grove Express buses.
 
During this time, customers are advised to board #2, #4 and #X4 buses either one block north at Cottage Grove and 56th Street, or one block south at Cottage Grove and 58th Street.
