Events Affecting CTA Service Beginning the Weekend of March 9-11

A Reminder for CTA Customers: Daylight Saving Time begins on Sunday, March 11 and clocks are to be set forward one hour. Customers who use unlimited ride passes are reminded that passes are active for 24-hour periods.
 
For example, someone who activates a 1-day pass at 8 a.m. Saturday will normally be able to use the pass until 8 a.m. Sunday. But this weekend, due to clocks moving forward one hour the pass would expire at 9 a.m. Sunday. 
 

Brown Line – Events Affecting Service

Weekend Service Suspension between Southport and Belmont this Weekend

Brown Line service will be temporarily suspended between the Southport and Belmont stations from 4 a.m. Saturday, March 10 until 7 p.m. Sunday, March 11 and then again from 4 a.m. Saturday, March 17 until 7 p.m. Sunday, March 18, due to crews performing scheduled track maintenance work.
 
During these times, a bus shuttle will operate as a substitute for rail service making stops in both directions at the Southport and Belmont stations. All Brown Line stations are accessible to those with disabilities or who require elevator access.
 
Northbound (to Kimball) Brown Line customers must exit trains at the Belmont station. Customers who wish to continue traveling north of Belmont will need to transfer to the bus shuttle and connect to northbound (to Kimball) trains at the Southport station.
 
Southbound (to the Loop) Brown Line customers must exit at the Southport station. Customers who wish to continue traveling south of Southport will need to transfer to the bus shuttle and connect to southbound (to the Loop) trains at the Belmont stations.
 
Customers planning to use the Brown Line to travel to/from events or festivities on these two weekends are advised to allow extra travel time. 
 

Daytime Closure of Main Entrance and Elevator at the Chicago Station

The main entrance/exit and the street-to-platform elevator to the northbound (to Kimball) platform of the Chicago Brown Line station will be temporarily closed from 10:40 a.m. until 3 p.m. each day beginning Monday, March 12 through Friday, March 16, while crews continue to replace platform decking.
 
During these times, customers will be directed to access the Chicago station using the auxiliary entrance located along Superior Street.
 
Alternate Service for Customers with Disabilities
Customers at the Chicago station who require an elevator to access Brown Line trains will need to take a southbound (to the Loop) train to Merchandise Mart and transfer to a northbound (to Kimball) train.
 
Brown Line customers traveling to the Chicago Brown Line station who require access to an elevator will need to continue to Sedgwick and transfer to a southbound (to the Loop) train.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
 

Red Line – Events Affecting Service

Late Night Boarding Changes Due to State Street Subway Sewer Cleaning

All late night Red Line trains will be routed to operate on the northbound (to Howard) tracks between the Cermak-Chinatown and Grand stations from 11 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning on: Sunday night, March 11; Monday night, March 12; Wednesday night, March 14 and Thursday night, March 15.
 
During these times, southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) customers at the Roosevelt, Harrison, Jackson, Monroe and Lake stations must board and exit trains from the northbound (to Howard) side of the platform.
 
CTA operators will announce the direction of each train. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. 
 

Late Night Single Track Operation in Effect between Lake and North/Clybourn

From 11 p.m. Tuesday, March 13 until 4 a.m. the following morning, all Red Line trains will be routed to operate on the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) tracks between the Lake and North/Clybourn stations due to crews replacing radio cabling in the subway.
 
Northbound (to Howard) customers at Grand and Chicago stations must board and exit trains from the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) platform.
 
Northbound (to Howard) customers at the Clark/Division station must board and exit trains from the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) side of the platform.
 
CTA operators will announce the direction of each train. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. 
 

Special Event Service Details

#19 United Center Express Service to the United Center

CTA will operate its #19 United Center Express for those attending the following events at the United Center this weekend and next week:
 
  • Friday, March 9 at 7:30 p.m. – New York Rangers versus Blackhawks
  • Saturday, March 10 at 7 p.m. – Utah Jazz versus Bulls
  • Sunday, March 11 at 6 p.m. – Los Angeles Kings versus Blackhawks
  • Monday, March 12 at 7 p.m. – New York Knicks versus Bulls
  • Tuesday, March 13 at 7:30 p.m. – St. Louis Blues versus Blackhawks
  • Wednesday, March 14 at 8:30 p.m. – Miami Heat versus Bulls
  • Friday, March 16 at 7 p.m. – Portland Trail Blazers versus Bulls
 
Buses will leave every 12-15 minutes from Michigan and Randolph beginning 90 minutes before the start of each event. After each event, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3 and will depart approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.
 

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

Helicopter Lift Detours #126 Jackson and #151 Sheridan Buses Saturday Morning

From 7 a.m. until approximately 10 a.m. Saturday, March 10, eastbound #126 Jackson and northbound #151 Sheridan buses will be detoured due to the closure of several downtown streets for a scheduled helicopter lift at 125 S. Wacker Drive.
 
Eastbound #126 buses will travel over the regular route along Jackson to Canal then will operate via Canal, Washington, Franklin to Jackson and then resume the regular route. Westbound #126 buses will not be affected and will operate over the regular route.
 
Northbound #151 buses will operate over the regular route along Canal to Van Buren then will travel via Van Buren, Jefferson, Washington, Franklin to Jackson and then resume the regular route. Southbound #151 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 

South Side Irish St. Patrick’s Day Parade Detours Two Routes

From 9 a.m. until approximately 4 p.m. Sunday, March 11, #103 West 103rd and #112 Vincennes/111th buses will be detoured due to the closure of Western Avenue between 103rd and 115th streets for the South Side Irish St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
 
Westbound #103 buses will travel over the regular route along 103rd Street to Longwood then will operate via Longwood, 99th Street, Kedzie to 103rd Street and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #103 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Southbound #112 buses will operate over the regular route along 111th Street to Longwood then will travel via Longwood, 119th Street, Kedzie to 111th Street and then resume the regular route. Northbound #112 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Shuttle Bus Service
Shuttle buses will operate between the 95th/Dan Ryan Red Line Station and 99th Street/Western to accommodate customers attending the South Side Irish St. Patrick's Day Parade.
 
Westbound shuttle buses will operate via 95th Street, Western to 99th Street before turning to begin eastbound service. From Western/99th Street, eastbound shuttle buses will travel via 99th Street, Longwood, 95th Street to the 95th/Dan Ryan Red Line station.
 

Ongoing Bus Service Changes 

Temporary Removal of #66 Chicago Bus Stop at Chicago/Wabash

Currently in effect until approximately 5 a.m. Wednesday, April 18, the eastbound near side stop at Chicago/Wabash served by #66 Chicago buses has been temporarily removed from service due to a nearby ComEd project.
 

Water Main Work Temporarily Detours Westbound #96 Lunt Buses

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Monday, April 16, westbound #96 Lunt buses are being detoured due to the closure of the westbound lanes of Lunt Avenue between Sheridan and Ashland for water main installation work.

Westbound #96 buses are traveling over the regular route along Morse to Sheridan then are operating via Sheridan, Pratt, Ashland to Lunt and then resuming the regular route. Eastbound #96 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 

#8 Halsted and #132 Goose Island Express Buses Detoured for Bridge Work

Currently in effect until approximately 6 p.m. Monday, April 30, #8 Halsted and #132 Goose Island Express buses are being detoured due to the closure of the North Halsted Bridge over the north branch of the Chicago River for repair work.
 
Northbound #8 buses are traveling over the regular route along Halsted to Chicago then are operating via Chicago, Larrabee, Division to Halsted and then resuming the regular route. Southbound #8 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 
Southbound #132 buses are operating over the regular route along North Branch to Division then are traveling via Division, Larrabee, Chicago to Halsted and then resuming the regular route. Northbound #132 buses are operating over the regular route along Halsted to Chicago then are traveling via Chicago, Larrabee, Division to Cherry and then resuming the regular route.
 

Service Adjustments Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project

Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project, Franklin Street between Harrison and Van Buren and Lower Wacker Drive between Randolph and Harrison are closed until May. As a result of these closures and other street reconfigurations, the following changes in bus service currently are in effect: 
 
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
Northbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses are traveling over the regular route along Harrison to Canal then are operating via Canal, Jackson to Franklin and resuming the regular route. Southbound #11 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes also have been made to bus stops served by northbound #11 buses:
 
  • Canal/Harrison: a far side stop has been added to service.
  • Canal/Jackson: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Jackson at the Chicago River: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • 404 W. Harrison: the mid-block stop has been removed from service.
  • Franklin/Van Buren: the far side stop has been removed from service.
 
#121 Union/Wacker Express
Northbound #121 Union/Wacker Express buses are operating over the regular route along Jackson past Wacker to Franklin then are traveling via Franklin, Lake, Post Place to Lower Wacker and then resuming the regular route.
 
Southbound #121 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand to Wabash then traveling via Wabash, Wacker, Franklin to Adams and then resuming the regular route.
 
#135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express buses are traveling south on Wacker to Jackson then are traveling east on Jackson past Franklin and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #135 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express buses are operating south on Wacker to Van Buren then are traveling via Van Buren, Canal to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #136 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#156 LaSalle (PM Service Only)
During the evening rush period only, northbound #156 LaSalle buses departing from Union Station are traveling west on Van Buren to Wacker then are operating via Wacker to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary bus stop change has been made and is in effect for northbound #156 buses during the evening rush period only: 
 
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 

Temporary Removal of #29 State Bus Stop at State/Pershing

Currently in effect until Friday, June 1, the southbound far side stop at State/Pershing has been removed from service due to nearby construction work. Customers are advised to board southbound #29 buses one block south at 40th Street.
 

Wacker Drive Stage III Work Affecting 18 Downtown CTA Bus Routes

Currently in effect, 18 CTA bus routes that operate in the downtown area near Adams and Monroe streets at Wacker Drive are operating under temporary service changes, due to work associated with Stage III of the Wacker Drive construction project.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time along these routes:

With the re-opening of Madison Street at Wacker Drive, #19 United Center Express, #20 Madison, #56 Milwaukee and #122 Illinois Center/Ogilvie Express buses have returned to their original routing.

Bus Stop at Archer/Cicero Temporarily Removed from Service

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Monday, June 6, the southbound far side bus stop at Archer/Cicero will be temporarily removed from service due to the demolition of a nearby building. This stop is currently served by #62 Archer and #62H Archer/Harlem buses.
 
During this time, customers can board southbound #62 buses at the existing near side stop at Archer/Cicero. Southbound #62H buses will serve the existing stop located at Archer/Lamon.
 

Bus Stop Changes Due to Kedzie Bridge Reconstruction Work

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Monday, October 1, the following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by #52A South Kedzie, #67 67th/69th/71st and #94 South California due to reconstruction work on the Kedzie Avenue Bridge between Marquette and 71st Street:
 
#52A South Kedzie
  • Kedzie/Marquette: the northbound far side stop has been temporarily relocated to a westbound near side stop on Marquette at Kedzie.
  • Kedzie/71st Street: the southbound far side stop has been temporarily removed from service.
 
#67 67th/69th/71st
  • 71st Street/Kedzie: the westbound near side stop has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop.
 
#94 South California
  • 71st Street/Kedzie: the westbound stop has been temporarily removed from service.
 

Temporary Relocation of #72 North Avenue Bus Stop

Currently in effect until approximately 6 p.m. Monday, April 23, 2013, the westbound near side stop at North Avenue/Washtenaw has been relocated to a far side stop. This stop is served by #72 North Avenue buses.
 

Temporary Relocation of Bus Stop at Lake Park/53rd Street

Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Thursday, May 2, 2013, the southbound near side stop at Lake Park/53rd Street has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction work. This stop is served by #6 Jackson Park Express, #X28 Stony Island Express and #171 U of C/Hyde Park buses.
 

Relocation of #36 Broadway Bus Stop Due to Nearby Construction

Currently in effect until Friday, July 12, 2013, the southbound near side stop at Broadway/Elmdale served by #36 Broadway buses has been relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction.
 

Removal of Bus Stop Change Affects Five Routes

Currently in effect until Thursday, August 1, 2013, the mid-block bus stop located at 5800 South Stony Island has been temporarily removed due to construction. This stop is served by the #2 Hyde Park Express, #6 Jackson Park Express, #15 Jeffery Local, #28 Stony Island and #X28 Stony Island Express buses.
