Events Affecting CTA Service Beginning the Weekend of March 6-8

A Reminder for CTA Customers: Daylight Saving Time begins on Sunday, March 8 and clocks are to be set forward one hour.

 

Blue Line – Slow Zone Work

Late Night Single Track in Effect at the Harlem Blue Line Station Next Week

A late night single track will be in effect for southbound Blue Line trains between the Cumberland and Harlem stations next week from 8 p.m. Monday, March 9 until 4 a.m. the following morning.  
           
Southbound Blue Line customers at the Harlem station must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 
Tuesday Night – Northbound
From 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 10 until 4 a.m. the following morning, a late night single track will be in effect for northbound Blue Line trains operating between the Harlem and Cumberland stations.
 
Northbound Blue Line customers at the Harlem station must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Red Line – Slow Zone Work

Daytime Reroute of Red Line Trains at Sheridan

A daytime reroute will be in effect for Red Line trains operating in both directions at the Sheridan station from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 7, while crews replace deteriorated rail ties, tie plates and spikes.
 
During this time, northbound and southbound Red Line trains will operate on the Purple Express tracks. Customers at the Sheridan station must board and exit trains from the outer platforms instead of the inner platforms.
 
Next Week
From approximately 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. each day beginning Tuesday, March 10 through Friday, March 13, a daytime reroute will be in effect for Red Line trains operating in both directions at the Sheridan station while crews replace deteriorated rail ties, tie plates and spikes.
 
During this time, northbound and southbound Red Line trains will operate on the Purple Express tracks. Customers at the Sheridan station must board and exit trains from the outer platforms instead of the inner platforms.
 

Blue Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Late Night Single Track in Effect at the Austin Blue Line Station on Saturday

Due to signal repair work, a late night single track will be in effect for eastbound Blue Line trains operating between the Austin and Cicero stations from 9 p.m. Saturday, March 7 until 7 a.m. the following morning.
 
Eastbound Blue Line customers at the Austin station must board and exit from the westbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Brown Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Brown Line Trains Temporarily Rerouted at Belmont on Tuesday

Due to work associated with the Brown Line Capacity Expansion project, southbound Brown Line trains will be temporarily rerouted to operate on the Red Line tracks at Belmont from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 10.  
 
Southbound Brown Line customers at the Belmont station must board and exit trains from the Red Line side of the platform.
 
CTA operators will announce the direction and route of each train.
 

Red Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Single Track in Effect for Red Line Trains between Roosevelt and Grand

A late night single track will be in effect for northbound Red Line trains operating between the Roosevelt and Grand stations from 10 p.m. Saturday, March 7 until 4 a.m. the following morning, due to work associated with the installation of an escalator at the Monroe/Adams station.
 
Northbound Red Line customers at the Roosevelt, Harrison, Jackson, Monroe and Lake stations must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Late Night Single Track in Effect at the North/Clybourn Red Line Station

A late night single track will be in effect for southbound Red Line trains operating between the Fullerton and Clark/Division stations from 10 p.m. Saturday, March 7 until 4 a.m. the following morning due to sewer cleaning in the subway tunnel.
 
Southbound Red Line customers at the North/Clybourn station must board and exit trains from the northbound platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 
Next Week
Sewer cleaning in the subway tunnel continues next week from 11 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Monday night, March 9 through Friday morning, March 13, resulting in a single track for southbound Red Line trains between the Fullerton and Clark/Division stations.
 
During these times, southbound Red Line customers at the North/Clybourn station must board and exit trains from the northbound platform.
 
CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Red Line Trains Temporarily Rerouted at Belmont on Monday

Due to work associated with the Brown Line Capacity Expansion project, southbound Red Line trains will be temporarily rerouted to operate on the Brown Line tracks at Belmont from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday, March 9.  
 
Southbound Red Line customers at the Belmont station must board and exit trains from the Brown Line side of the platform.
 
CTA operators will announce the direction and route of each train.
 

Additional Service for Special Events

#19 United Center Express Serves Upcoming Events

CTA will operate its #19 United Center Express buses on the following dates and times:
 
  • Friday, March 6 at 7:30 p.m. – Milwaukee Bucks versus Bulls
  • Sunday, March 8 at 2 p.m. – Colorado Avalanche versus Blackhawks
  • Wednesday, March 11 at 7:30 p.m. – Carolina Hurricanes versus Blackhawks
 
Buses will leave every 10 minutes from Michigan and Randolph beginning 90 minutes before the start of the event until the starting time of the event. When the event ends, #19 buses will depart the United Center approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.
 
#19 buses no longer make stops along Michigan Avenue north of Randolph, but continue to make all stops on Madison from Wabash to Clinton. From Clinton, #19 buses run express to the United Center.
 
After the event, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3. On the return trip, #19 buses will operate east on Washington to Wacker, then head south to Monroe and east to Michigan, making all stops from Jefferson to Michigan before turning north on Michigan and making the final stop at Randolph.
 

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

UPDATE: #29 State and #63 63rd Buses Rerouted for 63rd and State Street Viaduct Repairs

Northbound and southbound #29 State and #63 63rd buses have resumed operating over their regular routes. Buses operating along the #29 and #63 routes were temporarily detoured due to emergency repair work on the viaduct located on 63rd Street at State and the viaduct on State Street at 63rd.

 

Pavement Work along 47th Street Reroutes Eastbound #47 Buses until April 1st

Beginning immediately until 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, eastbound 47th Street will be closed between Normal and Shields due to pavement restoration work.
 
Eastbound #47 47th buses will operate over the regular route along 47th to Halsted then will travel via Halsted, 51st, Princeton to 47th and then resume the regular route. Westbound #47 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 

#24 Wentworth Buses Resume Regular Routing

Northbound and southbound #24 Wentworth buses have resumed operating over the regular route following the completion of sewer repair work at the intersection of Vincennes Avenue and 71st Street.
 

Reroute of Northbound and Southbound #34 South Michigan Buses Concludes

Northbound and southbound #34 South Michigan buses have resumed operating over the regular route. Buses were detoured due to viaduct and sewer repair work along 130th Street at Indiana Avenue.
 

Eastbound and Westbound #43 43rd Buses Resume Regular Routes

Eastbound and westbound #43 43rd buses have returned to their regular routes following the completion of construction work at Halsted and Root Street.
 

Two Bus Routes Detoured for Helicopter Lift at Michigan and Randolph on Saturday

On Saturday, March 7, from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., Randolph Street will be closed between Michigan and Columbus due to a helicopter lift. During this time, #4 Cottage Grove and #60 Blue Island buses will be temporarily detoured.
 
Northbound #4 and eastbound #60 buses will operate over the regular route along Michigan Avenue to Wacker then will travel via Wacker, Columbus to South Water for the end of route and start of southbound and westbound service, respectively. Southbound #4 and westbound #60 buses will operate from South Water to Michigan and then resume their regular routes. 
 

#68 Northwest Highway Buses Rerouted on Sunday for St. Patrick’s Day Parade

On Sunday, March 8 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Northwest Highway will be closed to all traffic between Devon and Nagle for the annual North Side St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
 
Southbound #68 Northwest Highway buses will travel over the regular route along Northwest Highway to Devon then will operate via Devon, Milwaukee, Nagle to Northwest Highway and then resume the regular route. Northbound #68 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Temporary Relocation of Bus Terminal at Ford City Mall

From 7 a.m. Monday, March 9 until 3 p.m. Monday, June 8, the CTA bus terminal located at Ford City Mall will be temporarily relocated approximately 800 feet southeast due to construction. This terminal is served by #54B South Cicero and #79 79th buses.
 

Temporary Removal of Bus Stops at Cottage Grove/57th Street

At 7 a.m. Monday, March 9, the northbound far side and southbound near side bus stops near the intersection of Cottage Grove and 57th Street will be temporarily eliminated until further notice due to sewer repair work. These bus stops are served by northbound and southbound #2 Hyde Park Express, #4 Cottage Grove and #X4 Cottage Grove Express buses.
 
During this time, customers are advised to board #2, #4 and #X4 buses either one block north at Cottage Grove and 56th Street, or one block south at Cottage Grove and 58th Street.
 

Daytime Reroute of #124 Navy Pier Buses on Monday

The Columbus Drive Bridge over the main branch of the Chicago River will be closed on Monday, March 9 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. due to bridge testing.
 
Southbound #124 Navy Pier buses will operate over the regular route along Grand to Lake Shore Drive then will travel via Lake Shore Drive, Lower Wacker to Columbus and then resume the regular route. Northbound #124 buses will operate over the regular route along Columbus to Lower Wacker then will travel via Lower Wacker, Lake Shore Drive to Illinois and then resume the regular route.
 

State Street Bridge Lifts Temporarily Detour Three Bus Routes on Tuesday

The State Street Bridge over the main branch of the Chicago River will be closed on Tuesday, March 10 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. due to trial bridge lifts.
 
Northbound #29 State buses will travel over the regular route along State to Wacker then will operate via Wacker, Dearborn, Illinois to State and then resume the regular route.
 
Southbound #29 State and #36 Broadway buses will operate over their regular routes along State to Grand then will travel via Grand, Clark, Wacker to State and then will resume their regular routes.
 
Northbound #36 Broadway buses are not affected and will operate over the regular route.
 
Northbound #62 Archer buses will travel over the regular route to Kinzie and State for end of route and start of southbound service. Southbound #62 buses will travel along State to Hubbard then will operate via Hubbard, Clark, Wacker to State and then resume the regular route.
 

Changes to CTA Bus Stops Effective Tuesday

Changes to CTA bus stops along the following bus routes will go into effect on Tuesday, March 10, at the start of service:
 
#21 Cermak
The westbound far side bus stop located at Cermak/Loomis will be changed to a near side bus stop.
 
#60 Blue Island/26th
  • The eastbound near side bus stop located at Blue Island/Oakley will be relocated to the far side.
  • The eastbound near side bus stop located at Blue Island/Hoyne will be changed to a far side bus stop.
 
#38 Ogden/Taylor
  • The westbound near side bus stop located at Taylor/Ashland will be relocated to the far side.
  • The westbound bus stop located at Taylor/Marshfield will be eliminated. Customers are advised to board westbound #38 buses at either Taylor/Ashland or Taylor/Paulina.
 
#50 Damen
The southbound near side bus stop located at Damen/Cermak will be relocated to the far side.
 

Changes to CTA Bus Stops Effective Wednesday

At the start of service on Wednesday, March 11, the following changes to CTA bus stops along their respective routes will go into effect:
 
#52 Kedzie California and #52A South Kedzie
The southbound near side bus stop located at Kedzie/53rd Street will be relocated to the far side.
 
#55A 55th/Austin and #55N 55th/Narragansett
  • The westbound near side bus stop located at 55th/Laramie will be changed to a far side bus stop.
  • The westbound near side bus stop located at 55th/Linder will be changed to a far side bus stop.
  • The eastbound near side bus stop located at 55th/Linder will be relocated to mid-block.
  • The westbound near side bus stop located at 55th/Central will be changed to a far side bus stop.
 
#62 Archer
The southbound bus stop located just north of the Homan/Archer T-intersection will be moved farther south to a mid-block bus stop between the two branches of Homan Avenue.
 
#63W West 63rd
  • The westbound near side bus stop located at 63rd/Mobile will be changed to a far side bus stop.
  • The westbound near side bus stop located at 63rd/Melvina will be relocated to the far side.
  • The eastbound near side bus stop located at 63rd/St. Louis will be changed to a far side bus stop.
 

Changes to CTA Bus Stops Effective Thursday

Changes to CTA bus stops along the following routes will go into effect on Thursday, March 12, at the start of service:
 
#4 Cottage Grove
The northbound near side bus stop located at Cottage Grove/77th will be relocated to the far side.
 
#4 Cottage Grove and #X4 Cottage Grove Express
The southbound near side bus stop located at Cottage Grove/83rd Street will be changed to a far side bus stop.
 
#15 Jeffery Local
The southbound near side bus stop located at Jeffery/76th Street will be relocated to a far side bus stop.
 
#30 South Chicago
Northbound and southbound #30 South Chicago buses will serve the new bus stops located at the intersection of Houston Avenue and 91st Street.
 
#106 East 103rd
The eastbound near side bus stop located at 103rd/Cottage Grove will be changed to a far side bus stop.
 

Daytime Reroute of Southbound #125 Water Tower Express Buses on Thursday

The Randolph Street Bridge over the Chicago River will be closed on Thursday, March 12 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. due to bridge lifts.
 
Southbound #125 Water Tower Express buses will operate over the regular route along Wacker to Lake then will travel via Lake to Clinton and then resume the regular route. Northbound #125 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 

Ongoing Bus Reroutes

Buses Rerouted on Harrison Due to Construction

Harrison Street between Paulina and Ashland will be closed to all traffic through March 2009, due to construction.
 
Eastbound #7 Harrison buses will travel over the regular route to Paulina then will operate via Polk, Ashland to Harrison and then resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #126 Jackson buses operating during late evenings, weekends and holidays will travel over the regular route to Harrison then will operate via Harrison, Wood, Polk, Ashland to Harrison and then resume the regular route.
 
#7 Harrison Bus Stop Temporarily Relocated
Until further notice, the westbound mid-block bus stop located at Harrison near Paulina served by the #7 Harrison will be temporarily relocated around the corner on Paulina due to construction.

 

Bus Stop Relocated Due to Construction at Chestnut and Lake Shore Drive

The bus stop located at Chestnut and Lake Shore Drive served by #10 Museum of Science & Industry and #157 Streeterville buses has been relocated due to construction. Customers must board and exit #157 buses at Inner Lake Shore Drive and Pearson.
 
#10 customers should board on Chestnut between Mies van der Rohe and Michigan or on Michigan southbound at Pearson.
 

#60 Blue Island/26th Buses Rerouted Due to Street Closure

Until further notice, Laflin Street between Cermak and 21st Place will be closed to all traffic due to construction at Benito Juarez School. Eastbound #60 Blue Island/26th buses will travel over the regular route to Cermak then will operate via Cermak, Loomis, 21st Street then return to Laflin and resume the regular route. Westbound #60 buses will operate the reverse route.
