EVENTS AFFECTING CTA SERVICE BEGINNING THE WEEKEND OF MARCH 5 – 7

Blue Line Subway Closes for Cable Installation Beginning Saturday NightThe Blue Line subway downtown will close for a brief period beginning at 10 p.m. Saturday, March 6 until 2 p.m. Sunday, March 7. The closure will allow for installation of a wireless telecommunications system.

While the communication cable is being installed, Blue Line stations between Western on the O'Hare branch and UIC/Halsted on the Forest Park branch will be closed.

A bus shuttle will be implemented to transport customers between these stations making stops at Western, Damen, Division, Chicago, Grand, Clark/Lake, Washington, Monroe, Jackson, LaSalle, Clinton and UIC/Halsted. Note: The LaSalle, Clinton and UIC/Halsted stations will only be affected by the closures until 6 a.m. Sunday. After 6 a.m., the bus shuttle will only travel as far as Jackson.

59th Street Closed for Metra Viaduct Construction59th Street is closed between Perry and LaSalle until Saturday, March 20 for construction on the Metra Rock Island viaduct in that location. Eastbound #59 59th/61st buses will operate via Wentworth, Garfield, Wells, 57th, State, back to 59th then resume the regular route. Westbound buses will operate via State, 57th, Wentworth, Garfield, back to Wells then resume the regular route.

Red Line Single Track in Effect for Several Nights Beginning SundayDue to construction and maintenance, single track service will be in effect northbound on the Dan Ryan branch of the Red Line at various locations between 94th Street and 55th Street from 9 p.m. until 4:30 a.m. Sunday night through Thursday night. Customers should allow 20 minutes in additional travel time while the work is being performed.

Bridge Repairs and Testing for the Upcoming Boating Season Continue into Next WeekThe Harrison Street bridge over the Chicago River will be tested from 9 a.m. until noon Friday, March 5. This closure will affect some morning trips on the #37 Sedgwick/Ogden bus route.

The Washington Street bridge will be closed for repairs from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Monday, March 8 through Friday, March 12. This closure will affect the #14 Jeffery Express, #20 Madison, #56 Milwaukee, #60 Blue Island/26th, #124 Navy Pier and #157 Streeterville bus routes.

The Jackson bridge will be tested from 9:30 a.m. until noon, Tuesday, March 9. This closure will affect the #1 Indiana/Hyde Park, #7 Harrison, #28 Stony Island Express, #124 Navy Pier, #151 Sheridan and #156 LaSalle bus routes.

The State Street bridge also will be tested Tuesday from 12:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. This closure will affect the #29 State, #36 Broadway and #62 Archer bus routes.

The Adams bridge will be tested Wednesday, March 10 from 9:30 a.m. until noon. This closure will affect the #1 Indiana/Hyde Park, #28 Stony Island Express, #151 Sheridan and #156 LaSalle bus routes.

The Michigan Avenue bridge will be tested overnight Wednesday from 11 p.m. until 5 a.m. Thursday morning, March 11. This closure will affect the #3 King Drive, #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express, #147 Outer Drive Express and #151 Sheridan bus routes.

All affected bus routes will be detoured to adjacent streets for the duration of the closures.
