Events Affecting CTA Service Beginning the Weekend of March 24 - 26

Brown Line Capacity Expansion Project:
CTA is working to expand capacity on the Brown Line. When the work is completed, customers will benefit from longer trains during rush hour, and accessible, modern stations and platforms.

Throughout the Brown Line construction project, slow zones and single track operation are periodically necessary near construction activity so, as a general rule, rail customers should allow extra travel time.

Kimball and Francisco Stations to Temporarily Close for Fourth Weekend Beginning Friday Evening
Beginning at 10 p.m. Friday, March 24, the Kimball and Francisco stations on the Brown Line will temporarily close until Monday at 2 a.m. Both Kimball and Francisco stations will resume normal weekday service Monday morning, March 27.

During the temporary weekend closure, Brown Line trains will operate between the Loop and Western station. CTA is providing a free bus shuttle for customers as a substitute for rail service. The bus shuttle will make stops at the Western station, Rockwell and Lawrence, Sacramento and Lawrence, Kedzie and Lawrence, Kedzie and Wilson, and at the Kimball station.

Kimball and Francisco to Remain Open Weekend of March 31
Next weekend, March 31 ? April 2, both the Kimball and Francisco stations will remain open, changing previously announced plans for a temporary weekend closure. A Brown Line shuttle train will operate on a single track between Kimball and Western stations from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 1 and Sunday, April 2. There will be no weekend bus shuttle service.

Single track operation is also scheduled for Saturday, April 8 and Sunday, April 9 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. between Kimball and Western stations on the Brown Line. After 6 p.m., Brown Line trains will resume regular operations from Kimball to the Loop.

Red Line - Dan Ryan Branch Rehabilitation:
CTA is working to replace track, power and signal systems and upgrade stations along the branch. When the work is completed, customers will experience more reliable service and modern station amenities.

Red Line Service from Cermak-Chinatown to 47th Street Temporarily Suspended Over Weekend
Red Line service from Cermak-Chinatown to 47th Street will be temporarily suspended in both directions on Friday, March 24 starting at 10 p.m. until 4 a.m. Monday, March 27. A bus shuttle will be provided as a substitute for rail service between the Cermak-Chinatown station and 47th Street.

Bus shuttle service will operate in both directions every seven to 15 minutes from 10 p.m. Friday, March 24 until 4 a.m. Monday, March 27. Scheduled stops will be Cermak-Chinatown, 35th/Wentworth, 47th station and 35th/LaSalle. Red Line trains will serve all stations except Sox-35th.

Customers should allow extra travel time.

Late Night Single Track on Red Line Thursday
Single track service will be in effect between 33rd and 45th from 11 p.m. Thursday, March 23 until 4 a.m. Friday, March 24 as part of the Dan Ryan Red Line rehabilitation project.

Customers should allow extra travel time.

Bridge Closures

Cermak Bridge over Chicago River Closes Friday
The Cermak Bridge over the Chicago River will temporarily close from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Friday, March 24.

#21 Cermak buses will operate in both directions via Cermak, Lumber, Canal, back to Cermak, then resume the regular route.

Columbus Bridge over Chicago River Closes Friday
The Columbus Bridge over the Chicago River will temporarily close from 9:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. Friday, March 24.

Southbound #124 Navy Pier buses will operate via Grand to Lake Shore Drive, Lower Wacker to Columbus to resume the regular route.

Northbound buses will operate via Lower Columbus to Lower Wacker, Lake Shore Drive to Illinois to resume the regular route.

Adams Bridge over Chicago River Closes Over Weekend
The Adams Bridge over the Chicago River will temporarily close from 8 p.m. Friday, March 24 until 5 p.m. Sunday, March 26.

Westbound #7 Harrison, #126 Jackson, #151 Sheridan and #156 LaSalle buses will operate via Adams to Wacker, Van Buren, Canal, back to Jackson or Adams to resume the regular route. Eastbound service is not affected.

State Street Closes for Helicopter Lift Sunday
State Street will temporarily close between Randolph and Lake Sunday, March 26 from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. for a helicopter lift. The closure will affect buses on the #6 Jackson Park, #29 State, #36 Broadway, #62 Archer and #146 Inner Drive routes.

Southbound #29, #36 and #62 buses will operate via State to Wacker, Michigan, Randolph, back to State, then resume the regular route. Northbound service on the #36 and #62 is not affected.

Northbound #29 buses will operate via State to Randolph, Dearborn, Wacker, back to State, then resume the regular route.

Southbound #6 buses will operate via Wacker to Michigan, Randolph, back to State, then resume the regular route. Northbound service is not affected.

Southbound #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express buses will operate via Michigan to Randolph, State, then resume the regular route. Northbound #146 buses will operate via State to Washington, Michigan, then resume the regular route.

Late Night Single Track on Blue Line Forest Park Branch Over Weekend
Single track service will be in effect for maintenance work between the Cicero and Austin stations from 10 p.m. Thursday, March 23 until 4 a.m. Friday, March 24.

Single track service will be in effect between the Kedzie-Homan and Pulaski stations from 10 p.m. Friday, March 24 until 10 a.m., Saturday, March 25 and again in the same location from 9 p.m. Saturday, March 25 until 1 p.m. Sunday, March 26.

Customers should allow extra travel time.
