Blue Line – Slow Zone Work

Late Night Single Tracks along the O’Hare Branch of the Blue Line Next Week

A late night single track will be in effect for southbound Blue Line trains between the Addison and Belmont stations from 8 p.m. Monday, March 23 until 4 a.m. the following morning.
 
Southbound Blue Line customers at the Addison and Belmont stations must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Red Line – Slow Zone Work

Daytime Reroute of Red Line Trains at Sheridan

A daytime reroute will be in effect for Red Line trains operating in both directions at the Sheridan station from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 21, while crews replace deteriorated rail ties, tie plates and spikes.
 
During this time, northbound and southbound Red Line trains will operate on the Purple Express tracks. Customers at the Sheridan station must board and exit trains from the outer platforms instead of the inner platforms.
 
Next Week
From approximately 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. each day beginning Tuesday, March 24 through Friday, March 27, a daytime reroute will be in effect for Red Line trains operating in both directions at the Sheridan station while crews replace deteriorated rail ties, tie plates and spikes.
 
During this time, northbound and southbound Red Line trains will operate on the Purple Express tracks. Customers at the Sheridan station must board and exit trains from the outer platforms instead of the inner platforms.
 

Red Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Late Night Single Track for Red Line Trains between Clark/Division and Grand

A late night single track will be in effect for southbound Red Line trains operating between the Clark/Division and Grand stations from 10 p.m. Sunday, March 22 until 4 a.m. the following morning due to sewer cleaning in the subway tunnel.
 
Southbound Red Line customers at the Clark/Division station must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.
 
Southbound customers at the Chicago and Grand stations must board and exit trains from the northbound platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 
Next Week
Sewer cleaning in the subway tunnel continues next week from 11 p.m. each night until
4 a.m. the following morning beginning Monday night, March 23 through Friday morning, March 27, resulting in a single track for southbound Red Line trains between the Clark/Division and Grand stations.
 
During these times, southbound Red Line customers at the Clark/Division station must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.
 
Southbound customers at the Chicago and Grand stations must board and exit trains from the northbound platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Brown Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Brown Line Trains Temporarily Rerouted at Belmont Next Week

Due to work associated with the Brown Line Capacity Expansion project, southbound Brown Line trains will be temporarily rerouted to operate on the Red Line tracks at Belmont from
1 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 26 and Friday, March 27.
 
Southbound Brown Line customers at the Belmont station must exit trains from the Red Line side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction and route of each train.
 

Single Track in Effect on Brown Line between Sedgwick and Chicago

A single track will be in effect for southbound Brown Line trains between the Sedgwick and Chicago stations from 6:30 a.m. until noon on Sunday, March 22 due to track maintenance.
 
Southbound customers at the Sedgwick and Chicago stations must board and exit trains on the northbound platforms.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 
Northbound
From noon until 5 p.m., a single track will be in effect for northbound trains between the Chicago and Sedgwick stations due to maintenance.
 
Northbound customers at Chicago and Sedgwick must board and exit trains from the southbound platform. 
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Red/Purple/Yellow Lines – Others Events Affecting Service

Opening of Auxiliary Entrance at Howard Station Completes Station Renovations

On Friday, March 20, the newly renovated Howard Red Line auxiliary station entrance at 1649 West Howard will reopen—marking the completion of CTA’s $56.7 million Red Line Howard rehabilitation project.
 
Howard station serves as a free transfer point between the CTA Red, Yellow and Purple lines for more than 13,000 customers on an average weekday. In addition, seven CTA bus routes and two Pace bus routes also serve the Howard station.
 
Last June, CTA opened a new primary entrance at the south end of the station on Paulina Street. The station remained open for service throughout construction.

Additional Service for Special Events

#19 United Center Express Serves Upcoming Events

CTA will operate its #19 United Center Express buses on the following dates and times:
 
  • Friday, March 20 at 7:30 p.m. – Edmonton Oilers versus Blackhawks
  • Saturday, March 21 at 7:30 p.m. – Los Angeles Lakers versus Bulls
  • Sunday, March 22 at 2 p.m. – Los Angeles Kings versus Blackhawks
  • Tuesday, March 24 at 7 p.m. – Detroit Pistons versus Bulls
  • Wednesday, March 25 at 7:30 p.m. – San Jose Sharks versus Blackhawks
  • Thursday, March 26 at 7 p.m. – Miami Heat versus Bulls
 
Buses will leave every 10 minutes from Michigan and Randolph beginning 90 minutes before the start of the event until the starting time of the event. When the event ends, #19 buses will depart the United Center approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.
 
#19 buses no longer make stops along Michigan Avenue north of Randolph, but continue to make all stops on Madison from Wabash to Clinton. From Clinton, #19 buses run express to the United Center.
 
After the event, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3. On the return trip, #19 buses will operate east on Washington to Wacker, then head south to Monroe and east to Michigan, making all stops from Jefferson to Michigan before turning north on Michigan and making the final stop at Randolph.
 

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

Crane Lift along Michigan Avenue Detours Nine CTA Bus Routes

The southbound lanes of Michigan Avenue between Washington and Madison will be closed to all traffic from 10 p.m. Friday, March 20 through 11 a.m. Saturday, March 21, due to a scheduled crane lift. Nine CTA bus routes will be temporarily detoured to nearby streets during this time.
 
Southbound #3 King Drive and #4 Cottage Grove buses will operate over their regular routes along Michigan to Randolph then will travel via Randolph, State, Monroe to Michigan and then resume their regular routes. Northbound #3 and #4 buses will travel over their regular routes.
 
Westbound #20 Madison and #56 Milwaukee buses will travel over their regular routes along Washington to State then will operate via State to Madison and then resume their regular routes.
 
Westbound #60 Blue Island buses will operate over the regular route along Randolph past Michigan to State then will travel via State to Madison and then resume the regular route along Madison. Eastbound #60 buses will travel the regular route.
 
Eastbound #66 Chicago (Owl Service) buses will travel over the regular route along Michigan to Randolph then will operate via Randolph, State to Madison for the end of route and start of westbound service. Westbound #66 (Owl Service) buses will travel via State, Monroe to Michigan and then resume the regular route.
 
Westbound #124 Navy Pier buses will operate over the regular route along Michigan to Randolph then will travel via Randolph, State to Madison and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #124 buses will travel over the regular route.
 
Southbound #145 Wilson/Michigan Express and #147 Outer Drive Express buses will travel over their regular routes along Michigan to Randolph then will operate via Randolph, State, Monroe to Michigan and then will resume their regular routes. Northbound #145 and #147 buses will travel over their regular routes.
 
Southbound #151 Sheridan buses will operate over the regular route along Michigan to Randolph then will travel via Randolph, State to Adams and then resume the regular route. Northbound #151 buses will travel over the regular route.
 

Temporary Relocation of Bus Stop near McCormick Place

The southbound near side bus stop located at 2300 South King Drive will be temporarily relocated to a far side bus stop until noon on Wednesday, March 25, due to the International Home + Housewares Show taking place at McCormick Place. CTA bus routes that serve this location are the #3 King Drive, #X3 King Drive Express, #X4 Cottage Grove Express, #21 Cermak and #129 West Loop/South Loop.
 

Water Main Construction Reroutes Buses until May 12

Due to water main construction, 16th Street is closed between California and Washtenaw from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily until May 12. 
 
Eastbound #18 16th/18th buses will travel over the regular route to Ogden/California then will operate via Ogden, Washtenaw to 16th and then resume the regular route. Westbound buses are not affected and will travel along the regular route.
 
Westbound #38 Ogden/Taylor buses will travel over the regular route to Western/Ogden then will operate via Western, 16th to Washtenaw and then resume the regular route. Eastbound buses are not affected and will travel along the regular route.
 

Buses Rerouted Due to Construction on Milwaukee Avenue

Eastbound #81W West Lawrence and northbound #91 Austin buses will be rerouted until Monday, November 30, due to construction on Milwaukee Avenue between Gale Street and Montrose Avenue.
 
Eastbound #81W buses will travel over the regular route to Lawrence/Milwaukee then will travel eastbound on Lawrence to Lipps, traveling north on Lipps to enter the Jefferson Park bus terminal. Westbound buses are not affected and will travel along the regular route.
 
Northbound #91 buses will travel over the regular route to Lawrence/Milwaukee to a far side stop then will continue eastbound on Lawrence to Lipps, traveling north on Lipps to enter the Jefferson Park bus terminal. Southbound buses are not affected and will travel along the regular route.
 
Temporary Removal of Bus Stop on Milwaukee/Ainslie
The northbound bus stop on Milwaukee at Ainslie has been temporarily removed until November 30, due to construction on Milwaukee Avenue. This location is served by #81W West Lawrence and #91 Austin buses.
 

New East Terminal for #12 Roosevelt Buses

The east terminal for the #12 Roosevelt route has been relocated to Indiana/15th Place.  #12 buses will travel south along Indiana Avenue, south of 15th Place, to begin westbound service.
 

Route Changes for #145 Wilson/Michigan Express and #148 Clarendon/Michigan Express Buses

Effective Sunday, March 22, changes in routing on the north end of the current #145 Wilson/Michigan Express and #148 Clarendon/Michigan Express bus routes will go into effect. This reroute will affect those traveling to/from the Ravenswood Metra station.
 
Northbound #145 and #148 buses will operate over their regular routes along Wilson to Ashland then will travel via Ashland, Lawrence, Ravenswood, Leland, Ravenswood to the terminal for end of route and start of southbound service. Southbound #145 and #148 buses will travel south on Ravenswood to Wilson and then resume their regular routes.
 
Operators will inform customers of the changes in routing.
 

Changes to Bus Stop Located at Halsted/107th Street

The northbound far side bus stop located at Halsted and 107th Street will be returned to a near side stop on Monday, March 23 following the completion of construction work on the northeast corner of the intersection. This bus stop is served by #8A South Halsted and #108 Halsted/95th buses.
 

State Street Bridge Lifts Temporarily Detour Three Bus Routes Next Week

The State Street Bridge over the main branch of the Chicago River will be closed from
9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. each day from Tuesday, March 24 through Thursday, March 26 due to trial bridge lifts.
 
Northbound #29 State buses will travel over the regular route along State to Wacker then will operate via Wacker, Dearborn, Illinois to State and then resume the regular route.
 
Southbound #29 State and #36 Broadway buses will operate over their regular routes to State/Grand then will travel via Grand, Clark, Wacker to State and then will resume their regular routes.
 
Northbound #36 Broadway buses are not affected and will operate over the regular route.
 
Northbound #62 Archer buses will travel over the regular route to Kinzie and State for end of route and start of southbound service. Southbound #62 buses will travel along State to Hubbard then will operate via Hubbard, Clark, Wacker to State and then resume the regular route.
 

Two Bus Routes Detoured for Trial Lifts of Wells Street Bridge Early Next Week

The Wells Street Bridge over the Chicago River will be closed to all traffic on Monday,
March 22 from 12:01 a.m. to 5 a.m. and then again on Tuesday, March 23 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. due to trial bridge lifts.
 
Southbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses will operate over the regular route along Wells to Hubbard then will travel via Hubbard, LaSalle, Wacker to Wells and then resume the regular route. Northbound #11 buses will travel over the regular route.
 
Southbound #125 Water Tower Express buses will travel over the regular route along Wells to Hubbard then will operate via Hubbard, LaSalle to Wacker and then resume the regular route. Northbound #125 buses will travel over the regular route.
 

Seven Routes Temporarily Detoured for Adams Street Bridge Closure on Tuesday

From 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24, the Adams Street Bridge over the Chicago River will be closed to all traffic due to trial bridge lifts.
 
Westbound #7 Harrison, #121 Union/Wacker Express, #123 Illinois Center/Union Express and #126 Jackson buses will operate over their regular routes along Adams to Wacker then will travel via Wacker, Van Buren, Canal to Adams then resume their regular routes. Eastbound service is not affected and buses will travel over their regular routes.
 
Northbound #X28 Stony Island Express buses will travel over the regular route along Adams to Wacker then will operate via Wacker, Van Buren, Jefferson, Jackson to Canal for the end of route and start of southbound service. Southbound #X28 buses will operate over the regular route.
 
Southbound #151 Sheridan buses will travel over the regular route along Adams to Wacker then will operate via Wacker, Van Buren to Canal for end of route and start of northbound service. Northbound #151 Sheridan buses will travel via Canal to Jackson then resume the regular route.
 
Southbound #156 LaSalle buses will operate over the regular route along Adams to Wacker then will travel via Wacker, Van Buren, Jefferson to Adams and then resume the regular route. Northbound #156 buses will travel over the regular route.
 

Daytime Reroute of #22 Clark Buses due to Trial Bridge Lifts on Wednesday

The Clark Street Bridge over the Chicago River will be closed to all traffic on Wednesday, March 25 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. due to trial bridge lifts.
 
Southbound #22 Clark buses will travel over the regular route along Clark to Kinzie then will operate via Kinzie, LaSalle, Wacker to Clark and then resume the regular route. Northbound #22 Clark buses will travel over the regular route.
 

Roosevelt Road Bridge Lifts Detour Two Bus Routes on Thursday

On Thursday, March 26 from 12:01 a.m. to 5 a.m., the Roosevelt Road Bridge over the Chicago River will be closed to all traffic for trial bridge lifts.
 
Eastbound #12 Roosevelt buses will operate over the regular route along Roosevelt to Canal then will travel via Canal, Harrison, State to Roosevelt and then resume the regular route. Westbound #12 buses will operate over the regular route along Roosevelt to State then will travel via State, Harrison, Franklin, Van Buren, Clinton to Roosevelt and then resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #62 Archer (Owl Service) buses will travel over the regular route along Roosevelt to Canal then will operate via Canal, Harrison to Dearborn and then resume the regular route. Westbound #62 (Owl Service) buses will travel over the regular route along Roosevelt to Clark then will operate via Clark, Harrison, Canal to Roosevelt and then resume the regular route.
 

Six Bus Routes Detoured on Thursday for Jackson Boulevard Trial Bridge Lifts

The Jackson Boulevard Bridge over the South Branch of the Chicago River will be closed to all traffic on Thursday, March 26 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for trial bridge lifts.
 
Southbound #1 Indiana/Hyde Park, #X28 Stony Island Express and #151 Sheridan buses will operate over their regular routes along Canal to Van Buren then will travel via Van Buren, Jefferson, Monroe, Wacker to Jackson and then resume their routes. Northbound #1, #X28 and #151 buses will operate over their regular routes.
 
Eastbound #7 Harrison and #126 Jackson buses will travel over their regular routes along Jackson to Canal then will operate via Canal, Monroe, Wacker to Jackson and then resume their regular routes. Westbound #7 and #126 buses will travel over their regular routes.
 
Northbound #156 LaSalle buses will operate over the regular route along Canal past Jackson to Monroe then will travel via Monroe, Wacker to Jackson and then resume the regular route. Southbound #156 buses will travel over the regular route.

Buses Rerouted on Harrison Due to Construction

Harrison Street between Paulina and Ashland will be closed to all traffic through
March 2009, due to construction.
 
Eastbound #7 Harrison buses will travel over the regular route to Paulina then will operate via Polk, Ashland to Harrison and then resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #126 Jackson buses operating during late evenings, weekends and holidays will travel over the regular route to Harrison then will operate via Harrison, Wood, Polk, Ashland to Harrison and then resume the regular route.
 
#7 Harrison Bus Stop Temporarily Relocated
Until further notice, the westbound mid-block bus stop located at Harrison near Paulina served by the #7 Harrison will be temporarily relocated around the corner on Paulina due to construction.
 

Pavement Work along 47th Street Reroutes Eastbound #47 Buses until April 1

Eastbound 47th Street will be closed between Normal and Shields until 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, due to pavement restoration work.
 
Eastbound #47 47th buses will operate over the regular route along 47th to Halsted then will travel via Halsted, 51st, Princeton to 47th and then resume the regular route. Westbound #47 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 

Temporary Relocation of Bus Terminal at Ford City Mall

Until 3 p.m. Monday, June 8, the CTA bus terminal located at Ford City Mall will be temporarily relocated approximately 800 feet southeast due to construction. This terminal is served by #54B South Cicero and #79 79th buses.
 
Eastbound #63 63rd buses will operate over the regular route along 63rd Street to Wentworth then will travel via Wentworth, 59th, State to 63rd and then resume the regular route. Westbound #63 buses will operate over the regular route along 63rd Street to State then will travel via State, 59th, Wells to 63rd and then resume the regular route.
 

Bus Stop Relocated Due to Construction at Chestnut and Lake Shore Drive

The bus stop located at Chestnut and Lake Shore Drive served by #10 Museum of Science & Industry and #157 Streeterville buses has been relocated due to construction. Customers must board and exit #157 buses at Inner Lake Shore Drive and Pearson.
 
#10 customers should board on Chestnut between Mies van der Rohe and Michigan or on Michigan southbound at Pearson.
 

Temporary Removal of Bus Stops at Cottage Grove/57th Street

The northbound far side and southbound near side bus stops near the intersection of Cottage Grove and 57th Street will be temporarily eliminated until further notice due to sewer repair work. These bus stops are served by northbound and southbound #2 Hyde Park Express, #4 Cottage Grove and #X4 Cottage Grove Express buses.
 
During this time, customers are advised to board #2, #4 and #X4 buses either one block north at Cottage Grove and 56th Street, or one block south at Cottage Grove and 58th Street.
 

#60 Blue Island/26th Buses Rerouted Due to Street Closure

Until further notice, Laflin Street between Cermak and 21st Place will be closed to all traffic due to construction at Benito Juarez School. Eastbound #60 Blue Island/26th buses will travel over the regular route to Cermak then will operate via Cermak, Loomis, 21st Street then return to Laflin and resume the regular route. Westbound #60 buses will operate the reverse route.
