Brown Line – Events Affecting Service
Daytime Closure of Main Entrance and Elevator at the Chicago Station
The main entrance/exit and the street-to-platform elevator to the northbound (to Kimball) platform of the Chicago Brown Line station will be temporarily closed from 10:40 a.m. until 3 p.m. each day beginning Monday, March 5 through Friday, March 9, while crews continue to replace platform decking.
During these times, customers will be directed to access the Chicago station using the auxiliary entrance located along Superior Street.
Alternate Service for Customers with Disabilities
Customers at the Chicago station who require an elevator to access Brown Line trains will need to take a southbound (to the Loop) train to Merchandise Mart and transfer to a northbound (to Kimball) train.
Brown Line customers traveling to the Chicago Brown Line station who require access to an elevator will need to continue to Sedgwick and transfer to a southbound (to the Loop) train.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
Red Line – Events Affecting Service
Late Night Boarding Changes at North/Clybourn Next Week
All late night Red Line trains will be routed to operate on the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) tracks at the North/Clybourn station from 11 p.m. Sunday, March 4 until 4 a.m. the following morning, due to grouting work and sewer cleaning in the subway.
Customers at the North/Clybourn station traveling northbound (to Howard) must board and exit trains from the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) platform.
Weeknights – Affecting Southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) Trains
From 11 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Monday, March 5 through Friday morning, March 9, all late night Red Line trains will be routed to operate on the northbound (to Howard) tracks at the North/Clybourn station as grouting and sewer work continue in the subway.
Customers at the North/Clybourn station traveling southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) must board and exit trains from the northbound (to Howard) platform.
CTA operators will announce the direction of each train. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
Special Event Service Details
#19 United Center Express Service to the United Center
CTA will operate its #19 United Center Express for those attending the following events at the United Center next week:
- Monday, March 5 at 7 p.m. – Indiana Pacers versus Bulls
- Thursday, March 8 at 7 p.m. – Orlando Magic versus Bulls
- Friday, March 9 at 7:30 p.m. – New York Rangers versus Blackhawks
Buses will leave every 12-15 minutes from Michigan and Randolph beginning 90 minutes before the start of each event. After each event, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3 and will depart approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.
New/Updated Changes in Bus Service
Five Southbound Routes Detoured From State Street Due to a Crane Lift
Currently in effect until approximately 5 a.m. Monday, March 5, the southbound lanes of State Street between Harrison and Balbo will be closed to all traffic due to a crane lift. This work is affecting southbound #2 Hyde Park Express, #6 Jackson Park Express, #29 State, #62 Archer and #146 Marine/Michigan Express buses.
Southbound #2 and #6, buses are traveling over their regular routes along State to Harrison then are operating via Harrison, Wabash to Balbo and then resuming their regular routes. Northbound #2 and #6 buses are not affected and are traveling over their regular routes.
Southbound #29, #62 and #146 buses are operating over their regular routes along State to Harrison then are traveling via Harrison, Clark, Polk to State and then resuming their regular routes. Northbound #29, #62 and #146 buses are not affected and are traveling over their regular routes.
Temporary Removal of #66 Chicago Bus Stop at Chicago/Wabash
Currently in effect until approximately 5 a.m. Wednesday, April 18, the eastbound near side stop at Chicago/Wabash served by #66 Chicago buses has been temporarily removed from service due to a nearby ComEd project.
Temporary Bus Stop Changes Due to Kedzie Bridge Reconstruction Work
Effective at 6 a.m. Monday, March 5 until approximately 4 p.m. Monday, October 1, temporary changes will be made to bus stops served by #52A South Kedzie, #67 67th/69th/71st and #94 South California due to reconstruction work on the Kedzie Avenue Bridge between Marquette and 71st Street. The following changes will be in effect during this time:
#52A South Kedzie
Kedzie/Marquette: the northbound far side stop will be temporarily relocated to a westbound near side stop on Marquette at Kedzie.
- Kedzie/71st Street: the southbound far side stop will be temporarily removed from service.
#67 67th/69th/71st
- 71st Street/Kedzie: the westbound near side stop will be temporarily relocated to a far side stop.
#94 South California
- 71st Street/Kedzie: the westbound stop will be temporarily removed from service.
#9 Ashland Buses Detoured on Tuesday for Trial Bridge Lifts
From 9:30 a.m. until approximately 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, #9 Ashland buses will be detoured due to trial bridge lifts of the Ashland Bridge over the south branch of the Chicago River for the upcoming boating season.
Northbound #9 buses will operate over the regular route along Ashland to Archer then will travel via Archer and then turn into the Ashland Orange Line station to make a service stop. From the Ashland Orange Line station, buses will travel via Ashland, Archer, Loomis, Cermak to Ashland and then resume the regular route. Southbound #9 buses will travel the reverse route.
Tuesday Night: Three Routes Detoured for Van Buren Street Bridge Lifts
From 8 p.m. until approximately 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, eastbound #7 Harrison, southbound #11 Lincoln Sedgwick and southbound #156 LaSalle buses will be detoured due to trial lifts of the Van Buren Street Bridge.
Eastbound #7 buses will travel over the regular route along Van Buren to Wacker then will operate via Wacker, Madison, Clinton to Van Buren and then resume the regular route. Westbound #7 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
Southbound #11 buses will operate over the regular route along Van Buren to Wacker then will travel via Wacker, Adams, Clinton to Van Buren and then resume the regular route. Northbound #11 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
Southbound #156 buses will travel over the regular route along Adams to franklin then will operate via Franklin, Madison, Clinton to Van Buren and then resume the regular route. Northbound #156 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
Ongoing Bus Service Changes
Water Main Work Temporarily Detours Westbound #96 Lunt Buses
Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Monday, April 16, westbound #96 Lunt buses are being detoured due to the closure of the westbound lanes of Lunt Avenue between Sheridan and Ashland for water main installation work.
Westbound #96 buses are traveling over the regular route along Morse to Sheridan then are operating via Sheridan, Pratt, Ashland to Lunt and then resuming the regular route. Eastbound #96 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
#8 Halsted and #132 Goose Island Express Buses Detoured for Bridge Work
Currently in effect until approximately 6 p.m. Monday, April 30, #8 Halsted and #132 Goose Island Express buses are being detoured due to the closure of the North Halsted Bridge over the north branch of the Chicago River for repair work.
Northbound #8 buses are traveling over the regular route along Halsted to Chicago then are operating via Chicago, Larrabee, Division to Halsted and then resuming the regular route. Southbound #8 buses are traveling the reverse route.
Southbound #132 buses are operating over the regular route along North Branch to Division then are traveling via Division, Larrabee, Chicago to Halsted and then resuming the regular route. Northbound #132 buses are operating over the regular route along Halsted to Chicago then are traveling via Chicago, Larrabee, Division to Cherry and then resuming the regular route.
Service Adjustments Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project
Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project, Franklin Street between Harrison and Van Buren and Lower Wacker Drive between Randolph and Harrison are closed until May. As a result of these closures and other street reconfigurations, the following changes in bus service currently are in effect:
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
Northbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses are traveling over the regular route along Harrison to Canal then are operating via Canal, Jackson to Franklin and resuming the regular route. Southbound #11 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
The following temporary changes also have been made to bus stops served by northbound #11 buses:
- Canal/Harrison: a far side stop has been added to service.
- Canal/Jackson: a near side stop has been added to service.
- Jackson at the Chicago River: a near side stop has been added to service.
- 404 W. Harrison: the mid-block stop has been removed from service.
- Franklin/Van Buren: the far side stop has been removed from service.
#121 Union/Wacker Express
Northbound #121 Union/Wacker Express buses are operating over the regular route along Jackson past Wacker to Franklin then are traveling via Franklin, Lake, Post Place to Lower Wacker and then resuming the regular route.
Southbound #121 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand to Wabash then traveling via Wabash, Wacker, Franklin to Adams and then resuming the regular route.
#135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express buses are traveling south on Wacker to Jackson then are traveling east on Jackson past Franklin and resuming the regular route.
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #135 buses:
- Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
- Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
#136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express buses are operating south on Wacker to Van Buren then are traveling via Van Buren, Canal to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #136 buses:
- Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
- Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
#156 LaSalle (PM Service Only)
During the evening rush period only, northbound #156 LaSalle buses departing from Union Station are traveling west on Van Buren to Wacker then are operating via Wacker to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
The following temporary bus stop change has been made and is in effect for northbound #156 buses during the evening rush period only:
- Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
Temporary Removal of #29 State Bus Stop at State/Pershing
Currently in effect until Friday, June 1, the southbound far side stop at State/Pershing has been removed from service due to nearby construction work. Customers are advised to board southbound #29 buses one block south at 40th Street.
Wacker Drive Stage III Work Affecting 18 Downtown CTA Bus Routes
Currently in effect, 18 CTA bus routes that operate in the downtown area near Adams and Monroe streets at Wacker Drive are operating under temporary service changes, due to work associated with Stage III of the Wacker Drive construction project.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time along these routes:

With the re-opening of Madison Street at Wacker Drive, #19 United Center Express, #20 Madison, #56 Milwaukee and #122 Illinois Center/Ogilvie Express buses have returned to their original routing.
Temporary Removal of Bus Stop at Archer/Cicero
Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Monday, June 6, the southbound far side bus stop at Archer/Cicero will be temporarily removed from service due to the demolition of a nearby building. This stop is currently served by #62 Archer and #62H Archer/Harlem buses.
During this time, customers can board southbound #62 buses at the existing near side stop at Archer/Cicero. Southbound #62H buses will serve the existing stop located at Archer/Lamon.
Temporary Relocation of #72 North Avenue Bus Stop
Currently in effect until approximately 6 p.m. Monday, April 23, 2013, the westbound near side stop at North Avenue/Washtenaw has been relocated to a far side stop. This stop is served by #72 North Avenue buses.
Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Thursday, May 2, 2013, the southbound near side stop at Lake Park/53rd Street has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction work. This stop is served by #6 Jackson Park Express, #X28 Stony Island Express and #171 U of C/Hyde Park buses.
Currently in effect until Friday, July 12, 2013, the southbound near side stop at Broadway/Elmdale served by #36 Broadway buses has been relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction.
Currently in effect until Thursday, August 1, 2013, the mid-block bus stop located at 5800 South Stony Island has been temporarily removed due to construction. This stop is served by the #2 Hyde Park Express, #6 Jackson Park Express, #15 Jeffery Local, #28 Stony Island and #X28 Stony Island Express buses.
