Blue Line – Events Affecting Service

Northbound Trains Undergo Late Night Single Track between LaSalle and Grand

Northbound Blue Line trains will undergo a late night single track between the LaSalle and Grand stations in the Dearborn subway from 10 p.m. Friday, March 19 until 6 a.m. Saturday, March 20 due to construction.
 
Northbound customers at the Jackson, Monroe, Washington and Clark/Lake stations must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Early Monday Morning Single Track between Belmont and Addison on the O’Hare Branch

Due to track maintenance, inbound Blue Line trains on the O’Hare branch will undergo an early morning single track between the Belmont and Addison stations from 1 a.m. until 3:30 a.m. on Monday morning, March 22.
 
During this time, inbound Blue Line customers at the Belmont and Addison stations must board and exit trains from the outbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Late Night Single Track for Westbound Trains on the Forest Park Branch Next Week

Blue Line trains operating along the Forest Park branch will undergo a late night single track four nights next week while crews continue work associated with the signal renewal project.
 
Monday Night – Westbound
From 9 p.m. Monday, March 22 until 4 a.m. the following morning, a single track will be in effect between the Halsted and Western stations. Westbound Blue Line customers at the Racine and Medical Center stations on the Forest Park branch must board and exit trains from the eastbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday Nights – Eastbound
From 9 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Tuesday night, March 23 until Friday morning, March 26, a single track will be in effect between the Western and Halsted stations. Eastbound Blue Line customers at the Medical Center and Racine stations on the Forest Park branch must board and exit trains from the westbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Red Line – Events Affecting Service

Red Line Trains Undergo Late Night Single Track at Sox-35th Station

A late night single track will be in effect for southbound Red Line trains at the Sox-35th station from 11 p.m. Friday, March 19 until 6 a.m. on Saturday, March 20, due to construction work.
 
Southbound Red Line Customers at the Sox-35th station must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Late Night Single Track in Effect in Red Line Subway due to Subway Sewer Cleaning

A late night single track will be in effect for southbound Red Line trains between the North/Clybourn and Grand stations from 10 p.m. Sunday, March 21 until 4 a.m. the following morning, due to sewer cleaning in the subway.
 
Southbound Red Line customers at the Clark/Division station must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.
 
Southbound Red Line customers at the Chicago and Grand stations must board and exit trains from the northbound platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 
Next Week
From 11 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Monday, March 22 until Friday morning, March 26, southbound Red Line trains will undergo a late night single track between the North/Clybourn and Grand stations due to subway sewer cleaning.
 
Southbound Red Line customers at the Clark/Division station must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.
 
Southbound Red Line customers at the Chicago and Grand stations must board and exit trains on the northbound platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Repairs Temporarily Close Stairway at Roosevelt Subway Station Next Week

From 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. each day beginning Monday, March 22 until Friday afternoon, March 26, the stairway leading from the street to the Red Line subway on the southwest side of Roosevelt will be closed due to repair work.
 
Customers can access the subway platform via the stairway on the southeast side of Roosevelt.
 

Loop – Events Affecting Service

Stairway Temporarily Closed Due to Repair Work

From 9 p.m. each night until 7 a.m. the following morning beginning Friday, March 19 through Sunday morning, March 21, the stairway on the northwest corner of Madison leading from the street to the mezzanine at the Madison Loop Elevated station will be closed due to repair work.
 
Customers can access the platform from the southwest entrance.
 

Service for Upcoming Events

#19 United Center Express Serves Upcoming Events

CTA will operate its #19 United Center Express buses before and after the following events at the United Center:
 
  • Monday, March 22 at 7 p.m. – Houston Rockets versus Bulls
  • Tuesday, March 23 at 7:30 p.m. – Phoenix Coyotes versus Blackhawks
  • Thursday, March 25 at 7 p.m. – Miami Heat versus Bulls
  • Saturday, March 27 at 7 p.m. – New Jersey Nets versus Bulls
  • Sunday, March 28 at 6 p.m. – Columbus Blue Jackets versus Blackhawks
 
Buses will leave every 10 minutes from Michigan and Randolph beginning 90 minutes before the start of each event until the event begins.  When the event ends, #19 buses will depart the United Center approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.
 
#19 buses no longer make stops along Michigan Avenue north of Randolph, but continue to make all stops on Madison from Wabash to Clinton.  From Clinton, #19 buses run express to the United Center.
 
After each game, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3.  On the return trip, #19 buses will operate east on Washington to Wacker, then head south to Monroe and east to Michigan, making all stops from Jefferson to Michigan before turning north on Michigan and making the final stop at Randolph.
 

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

UPDATE: Temporary Changes to Bus Stops near Sheridan/Foster

Currently in effect until Wednesday, March 31, the northbound near side stop at Sheridan/Foster temporarily has been removed from service due to the demolition and reconstruction of a nearby building. This stop is served by #136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express, #147 Outer Drive Express and #151 Sheridan buses.
 

Temporary Removal of Bus Stop at Inner Lake Shore Drive/Cornelia

Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Friday, March 26, the northbound far side bus stop at Inner Lake Shore Drive/Cornelia has been temporarily removed from service due to a sewer construction project. This stop is served by #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express, #145 Wilson/Michigan Express, #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express and #151 Sheridan buses.
 

Downtown Bus Routes Undergo Temporary Reroutes due to Shamrock Shuffle

The Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle 8K Run may cause intermittent service delays on 22 CTA bus routes Sunday, March 21. Columbus Drive between Roosevelt and Balbo will be closed to all traffic beginning at approximately 9 a.m. until the completion of the race.
 
Participants will assemble on Columbus between Roosevelt and Balbo at 8:30 a.m. with the race beginning at 9:30 a.m. #6 Jackson Park Express, #10 Museum of Science & Industry and #14 Jeffery Express buses will begin rerouting at 4 a.m.
 
The race course is north on Columbus, west on Grand, south on Rush, west on Hubbard, south on State, west on Wacker, west on Lake, northwest on Milwaukee, south on Clinton, west on Lake, south on Desplaines, east on Washington, south on Franklin, east on Harrison, south on Michigan, east on Roosevelt and north on Columbus to finish the course.
 
The following CTA routes may be affected by the race: #3 King Drive, #4 Cottage Grove, #6 Jackson Park Express, #10 Museum of Science & Industry, #12 Roosevelt, #14 Jeffery Express, #18 16th/18th #20 Madison, #22 Clark, #29 State, #36 Broadway, #56 Milwaukee, #60 Blue Island/26th, #62 Archer, #65 Grand, #66 Chicago, #124 Navy Pier, #126 Jackson, #145 Wilson/Michigan Express, #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express, #147 Outer Drive Express and #151 Sheridan.
 

Bus Stop Change along #94 California Route

In addition to northbound buses along the #67th/69th/71st, effectively immediately, northbound #94 California buses also will serve the far side stop at 71st/Sacramento.
 

#10 Museum of Science & Industry Buses Hours Extended for Spring Break

Beginning Saturday, March 20, service for the #10 Museum of Science & Industry buses will be extended until Sunday, April 11 to accommodate service during Spring Break. 
 
Weekdays
On weekdays, buses headed to the museum will operate approximately every 20 minutes from 8:55 a.m. until 4:35 p.m. Buses leaving the museum will operate every 20 minutes from approximately 9:40 a.m. until 6:40 p.m.
 
Saturdays
Buses heading to the museum will operate every 20 minutes from 8:55 a.m. until 4:35 p.m. Buses leaving the museum will operate every 20 minutes from 9:40 a.m. until 6:40 p.m.
 
Sundays
Buses heading to the museum will operate every 20 minutes from approximately 10:35 a.m. until 4:25 p.m. Buses leaving the museum will operate every 20 minutes from approximately 11:10 a.m. until 6:30 p.m.
 

Ongoing Bus Reroutes

Temporary Removal of Bus Stop at 5000 S. Lake Park

Currently in effect until Wednesday, March 31, the northbound mid-block stop at 5000 S. Lake Park Avenue temporarily will be removed from service due to construction work at the nearby Metra station. This stop is served by #2 Hyde Park Express, #6 Jackson Park Express, #28 Stony Island and #X28 Stony Island Express buses.
 

Southbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick Buses Detoured Due to Water Main Work

The southbound curb lane of Van Buren between Wells and Franklin is temporarily closed until Wednesday, March 31, due to a water main installation project.
 
Southbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses are traveling over the regular route along Wells to Adams then operating via Adams, Wacker to Van Buren and resuming the regular route. Northbound #11 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 

Southbound #36 Broadway and #145 Wilson/Michigan Express Buses Detoured at Van Buren/Wells

Southbound #36 Broadway and #145 Wilson/Michigan Express buses are being temporarily rerouted from the area of Van Buren/Wells until Wednesday, March 31, due to construction.
 
Southbound #36 and #145 buses are traveling over their regular routes along Van Buren Street to Clark then operating via Clark, Congress, Wells to Harrison before turning to begin northbound service. Northbound #36 and #145 buses are traveling east along Harrison over the regular route.
 

Lane Restrictions near State and Grand Detour #29 State and #36 Broadway Buses

Due to lane restrictions associated with the Grand/State Red Line rehabilitation project at the northwest corner of State Street and Grand Avenue, #29 State and #36 Broadway buses are being detoured to adjacent streets. These changes in service are expected to remain in place until April.
 
Southbound #29 State buses are operating over the regular route along Grand past State to Clark then traveling via Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route.
 
Northbound #29 buses are traveling along the remaining open lane along State and over the regular route.
 
Southbound #36 Broadway buses are traveling over the regular route along State to Ontario then operating via Ontario, Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #36 buses are operating over the regular route along Dearborn past Illinois to Ohio then traveling via Ohio to State and resuming the regular route.
 

Temporary Removal of #66 Chicago Bus Stop

Currently in effect, the eastbound near side stop at Chicago/Clark served by #66 Chicago buses temporarily has been removed from service until Friday, April 30, due to construction.
 

14 CTA Bus Routes Affected Due to Jackson Viaduct Work

Due to the reconstruction of the Jackson Boulevard viaduct between Canal and Wacker, changes in service along 14 CTA bus routes are expected to remain in place until April. The following CTA bus routes are being rerouted to adjacent streets:

Temporary Relocation of #93 California/Dodge Bus Stop

Currently in effect until Thursday, May 27, the southbound curb lane of California Avenue at Granville is closed to all traffic due to construction. As a result of this lane closure, the southbound near side stop at California/Granville served by #93 California/Dodge buses temporarily has been relocated approximately 175 feet north.
 

#81 Lawrence Bus Stops near the Kennedy Expressway Temporarily Eliminated

Currently in effect until Tuesday, August 31, the eastbound and westbound near side bus stops on Lawrence at LeClaire served by #81 Lawrence buses temporarily have been removed from service due rehabilitation work on the Lawrence Avenue viaduct.
 

Temporary Removal of #29 State Bus Stop at State/Pershing

Due to an underground construction project, the southbound far side stop at State/Pershing served by #29 State buses has been removed from service until Sunday, May 1, 2011.
 

Southbound #29 State Bus Stop at State/Pershing Temporarily Eliminated

Currently in effect, the southbound far side stop at State/Pershing served by #29 State buses temporarily has been removed from service due to an underground construction project. This bus stop is expected to be returned to service on Friday, June 1, 2011.
 

Temporary Removal of #126 Jackson Bus Stop at Jackson/Sangamon

Currently in effect until Friday, September 30, 2011, the eastbound far side stop at Jackson/Sangamon served by #126 Jackson buses temporarily will be removed from service due to nearby construction. Customers may board and exit eastbound #126 buses from either Jackson/Morgan or Jackson/Peoria.
