Blue Line – Events Affecting Service
Late Night Boarding Changes at Logan Square Next Week
All late night Blue Line trains will be routed to operate on the southbound (to Forest Park) tracks between the Belmont and California stations from 10 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Sunday night, March 18 through Friday morning, March 23, due to sewer cleaning in the subway.
During the times, southbound (to Forest Park) Blue Line customers at the Logan Square station must board and exit trains from the northbound (to O’Hare) side of the platform.
Brown Line – Events Affecting Service
Service Suspended St. Patrick’s Day Weekend between Southport and Belmont
Brown Line service will be temporarily suspended between the Southport and Belmont stations from 4 a.m. Saturday, March 17 until 7 p.m. Sunday, March 18, due to crews performing scheduled track maintenance work.
During these times, a bus shuttle will operate as a substitute for rail service making stops in both directions at the Southport and Belmont stations. All Brown Line stations are accessible to those with disabilities or who require elevator access.
With increased ridership anticipated for the St. Patrick’s Day weekend, customers planning to use the Brown Line to travel to/from events or festivities are advised to allow extra travel time.
Northbound (to Kimball) Brown Line customers must exit trains at the Belmont station. Customers who wish to continue traveling north of Belmont will need to transfer to the bus shuttle and connect to northbound (to Kimball) trains at the Southport station.
Southbound (to the Loop) Brown Line customers must exit at the Southport station. Customers who wish to continue traveling south of Southport will need to transfer to the bus shuttle and connect to southbound (to the Loop) trains at the Belmont station.
Brown Line trains will operate normally from Kimball to Southport and from Belmont to the Loop.
Red Line service will not be affected and trains will operate normally in both directions.
Daytime Closure of Main Entrance and Elevator at the Chicago Station
The main entrance/exit and the street-to-platform elevator to the northbound (to Kimball) platform of the Chicago Brown Line station will be temporarily closed from 10:40 a.m. until 3 p.m. each day beginning Monday, March 19 through Friday, March 23, while crews continue to replace platform decking.
During these times, customers will be directed to access the Chicago station using the auxiliary entrance located along Superior Street.
Alternate Service for Customers with Disabilities
Customers at the Chicago station who require an elevator to access Brown Line trains will need to take a southbound (to the Loop) train to Merchandise Mart and transfer to a northbound (to Kimball) train.
Brown Line customers traveling to the Chicago Brown Line station who require access to an elevator will need to continue to Sedgwick and transfer to a southbound (to the Loop) train.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
Red Line – Events Affecting Service
Late Night Single Track Operation in Effect between Lake and North/Clybourn
From 11 p.m. Friday, March 16 until 6 a.m. the following morning, all Red Line trains will be routed to operate on the northbound (to Howard) tracks between the Lake and North/Clybourn stations due to crews replacing radio cabling in the subway.
Southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) customers at the Clark/Division station must board and exit trains from the northbound (to Howard) side of the platform.
Southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) customers at Chicago and Grand stations must board and exit trains from the northbound (to Howard) platform.
CTA operators will announce the direction of each train. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
Special Event Service Details
#19 United Center Express Service to the United Center
CTA will operate its #19 United Center Express for those attending the following events at the United Center this weekend and next week:
- Friday, March 16 at 7 p.m. – Portland Trail Blazers versus Bulls
- Saturday, March 17 at 7 p.m. – Philadelphia 76ers versus Bulls
- Sunday, March 18 at 6 p.m. – Washington Capitals versus Blackhawks
- Monday, March 19 at 7:30 p.m. – The Black Keys
- Wednesday, March 21 at 7 p.m. – Vancouver Canucks versus Blackhawks
Buses will leave every 12-15 minutes from Michigan and Randolph beginning 90 minutes before the start of each event. After each event, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3 and will depart approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.
CTA Service Adjustments for St. Patrick’s Day
The CTA will operate longer trains to accommodate participants heading to the annual St. Patrick’s Day parade in Grant Park on Saturday, March 17. Beginning at 9 a.m. longer trains will operate along the Blue and Brown lines until approximately 6 p.m. and on the Orange and Green lines until approximately 4:30 p.m.
From 7 a.m. until approximately 3:30 p.m. Saturday, seven CTA bus routes will be detoured due to the closure of Congress Plaza and Columbus Drive between Roosevelt and Monroe, for the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade. The parade will step off at noon. Routes affected during this time are:

Northbound #6 buses will operate over the regular route along Columbus to Roosevelt then will travel via Roosevelt, Michigan, Randolph to Field before turning to begin southbound service.
Southbound #6 buses will travel north on Field to Randolph then will operate via Randolph, State, Balbo, Michigan, Roosevelt to Columbus and then resume the regular route.
#10 Museum of Science & Industry
Northbound #10 buses will travel over the regular route along Columbus to Roosevelt then will operate via Roosevelt, Michigan, Balbo, State, Lake to Michigan and then resume the regular route north on Michigan.
Southbound #10 buses will travel over the regular route along Michigan past Wacker to Randolph then will operate via Randolph, State, Balbo, Michigan, Roosevelt to Columbus and then resume the regular route south on Columbus.
#14 Jeffery Express
Northbound #14 buses will operate over the regular route along Columbus to Roosevelt then will travel via Roosevelt to Michigan and then resume the regular route north on Michigan. Southbound #14 buses will travel the reverse route.
#124 Navy Pier
Eastbound #124 buses will travel over the regular route along Wacker to State then will operate via State, Illinois to Columbus and then resume the regular route south on Columbus.
Westbound #124 buses will operate over the regular route along Grand to Fairbanks then will travel via Fairbanks, Ontario to Michigan and then resume the regular route south along Michigan.
#126 Jackson
Eastbound #126 buses will travel over the regular route along Michigan to Harrison then will operate via Harrison to Wabash before beginning westbound service.
From Harrison/Wabash, westbound #126 buses will travel via Wabash, Balbo to Michigan and then resume the regular route north along Michigan.
#146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express
Southbound #146 buses will operate over the regular route along Michigan past Wacker to Randolph then will travel via Randolph to State and then resume the regular route south on State. Northbound #146 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
#147 Outer Drive Express
Southbound #147 buses will travel over the regular route along Michigan to Harrison then will operate via Harrison to Wabash before turning to begin northbound service.
From Harrison/Wabash, northbound #147 buses will travel via Harrison to State and then resume the regular route north on State.
New/Updated Changes in Bus Service
Bridge Repair Work Temporarily Detours Eastbound #79 79th Buses
From 6 a.m. Monday, March 19 until approximately 4 p.m. Monday, April 9, eastbound #79 79th buses will be detoured due to the closure of the eastbound lanes of 79th Street between Greenwood and Woodlawn avenues for bridge repair work.
Eastbound #79 buses will travel over the regular route along 79th Street to Cottage Grove then will operate via Cottage Grove, 83rd Street, Stony Island to 79th Street and then resume the regular route. Westbound #79 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
Changes to #30 South Chicago and #79 79th Bus Stops on Monday
Effective at 8 a.m. Monday, March 19, the following bus stop changes will go into effect along the #30 South Chicago and #79 79th bus routes:
#30 South Chicago
- South Chicago/Ingleside: the westbound near side stop will be relocated to a far side stop.
#79 79th
- 79th Street/Essex: the westbound near side stop will be relocated to 79th Street/Phillips.
- 79th Street/Essex: the eastbound far side stop will be relocated to 79th Street/Phillips.
Ongoing Bus Service Changes
Temporary Removal of #66 Chicago Bus Stop at Chicago/Wabash
Currently in effect until approximately 5 a.m. Wednesday, April 18, the eastbound near side stop at Chicago/Wabash served by #66 Chicago buses has been temporarily removed from service due to a nearby ComEd project.
Water Main Work Temporarily Detours Westbound #96 Lunt Buses
Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Monday, April 16, westbound #96 Lunt buses are being detoured due to the closure of the westbound lanes of Lunt Avenue between Sheridan and Ashland for water main installation work.
Westbound #96 buses are traveling over the regular route along Morse to Sheridan then are operating via Sheridan, Pratt, Ashland to Lunt and then resuming the regular route. Eastbound #96 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
#8 Halsted and #132 Goose Island Express Buses Detoured for Bridge Work
Currently in effect until approximately 6 p.m. Monday, April 30, #8 Halsted and #132 Goose Island Express buses are being detoured due to the closure of the North Halsted Bridge over the north branch of the Chicago River for repair work.
Northbound #8 buses are traveling over the regular route along Halsted to Chicago then are operating via Chicago, Larrabee, Division to Halsted and then resuming the regular route. Southbound #8 buses are traveling the reverse route.
Southbound #132 buses are operating over the regular route along North Branch to Division then are traveling via Division, Larrabee, Chicago to Halsted and then resuming the regular route. Northbound #132 buses are operating over the regular route along Halsted to Chicago then are traveling via Chicago, Larrabee, Division to Cherry and then resuming the regular route.
Service Adjustments Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project
Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project, Franklin Street between Harrison and Van Buren and Lower Wacker Drive between Randolph and Harrison are closed until May. As a result of these closures and other street reconfigurations, the following changes in bus service currently are in effect:
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
Northbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses are traveling over the regular route along Harrison to Canal then are operating via Canal, Jackson to Franklin and resuming the regular route. Southbound #11 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
The following temporary changes also have been made to bus stops served by northbound #11 buses:
- Canal/Harrison: a far side stop has been added to service.
- Canal/Jackson: a near side stop has been added to service.
- Jackson at the Chicago River: a near side stop has been added to service.
- 404 W. Harrison: the mid-block stop has been removed from service.
- Franklin/Van Buren: the far side stop has been removed from service.
#121 Union/Wacker Express
Northbound #121 Union/Wacker Express buses are operating over the regular route along Jackson past Wacker to Franklin then are traveling via Franklin, Lake, Post Place to Lower Wacker and then resuming the regular route.
Southbound #121 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand to Wabash then traveling via Wabash, Wacker, Franklin to Adams and then resuming the regular route.
#135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express buses are traveling south on Wacker to Jackson then are traveling east on Jackson past Franklin and resuming the regular route.
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #135 buses:
- Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
- Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
#136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express buses are operating south on Wacker to Van Buren then are traveling via Van Buren, Canal to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #136 buses:
- Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
- Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
#156 LaSalle (PM Service Only)
During the evening rush period only, northbound #156 LaSalle buses departing from Union Station are traveling west on Van Buren to Wacker then are operating via Wacker to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
The following temporary bus stop change has been made and is in effect for northbound #156 buses during the evening rush period only:
- Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
Temporary Removal of #29 State Bus Stop at State/Pershing
Currently in effect until Friday, June 1, the southbound far side stop at State/Pershing has been removed from service due to nearby construction work. Customers are advised to board southbound #29 buses one block south at 40th Street.
Wacker Drive Stage III Work Affecting 18 Downtown CTA Bus Routes
Currently in effect, 18 CTA bus routes that operate in the downtown area near Adams and Monroe streets at Wacker Drive are operating under temporary service changes, due to work associated with Stage III of the Wacker Drive construction project.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time along these routes:

With the re-opening of Madison Street at Wacker Drive, #19 United Center Express, #20 Madison, #56 Milwaukee and #122 Illinois Center/Ogilvie Express buses have returned to their original routing.
Bus Stop at Archer/Cicero Temporarily Removed from Service
Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Monday, June 6, the southbound far side bus stop at Archer/Cicero will be temporarily removed from service due to the demolition of a nearby building. This stop is currently served by #62 Archer and #62H Archer/Harlem buses.
During this time, customers can board southbound #62 buses at the existing near side stop at Archer/Cicero. Southbound #62H buses will serve the existing stop located at Archer/Lamon.
Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Monday, October 1, the following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by #52A South Kedzie, #67 67th/69th/71st and #94 South California due to reconstruction work on the Kedzie Avenue Bridge between Marquette and 71st Street:
Currently in effect until approximately 6 p.m. Monday, April 23, 2013, the westbound near side stop at North Avenue/Washtenaw has been relocated to a far side stop. This stop is served by #72 North Avenue buses.
Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Thursday, May 2, 2013, the southbound near side stop at Lake Park/53rd Street has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction work. This stop is served by #6 Jackson Park Express, #X28 Stony Island Express and #171 U of C/Hyde Park buses.
Currently in effect until Friday, July 12, 2013, the southbound near side stop at Broadway/Elmdale served by #36 Broadway buses has been relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction.
Currently in effect until Thursday, August 1, 2013, the mid-block bus stop located at 5800 South Stony Island has been temporarily removed due to construction. This stop is served by the #2 Hyde Park Express, #6 Jackson Park Express, #15 Jeffery Local, #28 Stony Island and #X28 Stony Island Express buses.
