Blue Line – Slow Zone Work

Late Night Single Tracks along the O’Hare Branch of the Blue Line

A late night single track will be in effect for southbound Blue Line trains between the Cumberland and Harlem stations from 10 p.m. Friday, March 13 until 7 a.m. the following morning
 
Southbound Blue Line customers at the Harlem station must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Next Week - Monday Night – Harlem to Jefferson Park

From 8 p.m. Monday, March 16 until 4 a.m. the following morning, a late night single track will be in effect next week for southbound Blue Line trains operating between the Harlem and Jefferson Park stations.

Southbound Blue Line customers at the Jefferson Park station must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Tuesday Night – Harlem to Cumberland

Northbound Blue Line trains will operate on a single track between the Harlem and Cumberland stations from 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 17 until 4 a.m. the following morning.

Northbound Blue Line customers at the Harlem station must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Wednesday Night – Jefferson Park to Montrose

From 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 18 until 4 a.m. the following morning, a late night single track will be in effect for southbound Blue Line trains between the Jefferson Park and Montrose stations.

Southbound customers at the Montrose station must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Thursday Night – Montrose to Jefferson Park

A late night single track will be in effect for northbound Blue Line trains between the Montrose and Jefferson Park stations from 8 p.m. Thursday, March 19 until 4 a.m. the following morning.

Northbound Blue Line customers at the Montrose station must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Red Line – Slow Zone Work

Daytime Reroute of Red Line Trains at Sheridan

A daytime reroute will be in effect for Red Line trains operating in both directions at the Sheridan station from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 14, while crews replace deteriorated rail ties, tie plates and spikes.

During this time, northbound and southbound Red Line trains will operate on the Purple Express tracks.  Customers at the Sheridan station must board and exit trains from the outer platforms instead of the inner platforms.

Next Week

From approximately 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. each day beginning Tuesday, March 17 through Friday, March 20, a daytime reroute will be in effect for Red Line trains operating in both directions at the Sheridan station while crews replace deteriorated rail ties, tie plates and spikes.

During this time, northbound and southbound Red Line trains will operate on the Purple Express tracks.  Customers at the Sheridan station must board and exit trains from the outer platforms instead of the inner platforms.

Red Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Late Night Single Track for Red Line Trains between Clark/Division and Grand

A late night single track will be in effect for southbound Red Line trains operating between the Clark/Division and Grand stations from 10 p.m. Sunday, March 15 until 4 a.m. the following morning due to sewer cleaning in the subway tunnel.

Southbound Red Line customers at the Clark/Division station must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.

Southbound customers at the Chicago and Grand stations must board and exit trains from the northbound platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Next Week

Sewer cleaning in the subway tunnel continues next week from 11 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Monday night, March 16 through Friday morning, March 20, resulting in a single track for southbound Red Line trains between the Clark/Division and Grand stations.

During these times, southbound Red Line customers at the Clark/Division station must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.

Southbound customers at the Chicago and Grand stations must board and exit trains from the northbound platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Additional Service for Special Events

#19 United Center Express Serves Upcoming Events

CTA will operate its #19 United Center Express buses on the following dates and times:

• Friday, March 13 at 7:30 p.m. – Columbus Blue Jackets versus Blackhawks
• Saturday, March 14 at 7:30 p.m. – New Orleans Hornets versus Bulls
• Sunday, March 15 at 2 p.m. – New York Islanders versus Blackhawks
• Tuesday, March 17 at 7:30 p.m. – Boston Celtics versus Bulls

Buses will leave every 10 minutes from Michigan and Randolph beginning 90 minutes before the start of the event until the starting time of the event. When the event ends, #19 buses will depart the United Center approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.

#19 buses no longer make stops along Michigan Avenue north of Randolph, but continue to make all stops on Madison from Wabash to Clinton. From Clinton, #19 buses run express to the United Center.

After the event, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3. On the return trip, #19 buses will operate east on Washington to Wacker, then head south to Monroe and east to Michigan, making all stops from Jefferson to Michigan before turning north on Michigan and making the final stop at Randolph.

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

CTA Buses Detoured for St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Grant Park on Saturday

Columbus Drive, between Roosevelt and Monroe will be closed to all traffic for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade beginning at 6 a.m. Saturday, March 14. The parade will step off at noon.

Northbound #6 Jackson Park Express, #10 Museum of Science & Industry and #14 Jeffery Express buses will operate over the regular route along Columbus to Roosevelt then will travel via Roosevelt to Michigan and resume the regular route. Southbound #6, #10 and #14 buses will operate over the regular route along Michigan past Balbo to Roosevelt then will travel via Roosevelt to Columbus and then resume the regular route.

Eastbound #126 Jackson and southbound #147 Outer Drive Express buses will travel over their regular routes along Michigan to Harrison for the end of route and start of westbound and northbound service, respectively. Westbound #126 and northbound #147 buses will travel west on Harrison to Wabash then will operate via Wabash, Balbo to Michigan and resume their regular routes north of Congress.

Buses Rerouted for Stop All Wars in the Middle East Parade

Beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 14, Cermak between Marshall and Damen, Damen between Cermak and 18th Street and 18th Street between Damen and Loomis will be for the Stop All Wars in the Middle East Parade.  The parade steps off at 1 p.m.

Northbound #9 Ashland buses will travel over the regular route to Cermak then will operate via Cermak, Racine, 15th then return to Ashland and resume the regular route.  Southbound buses will travel the reverse route.

Eastbound #18 16th/18th buses will travel over the regular route to Western then will operate via Western, Roosevelt to Halsted and then resume the regular route.  Westbound buses will travel the reverse route.

Eastbound #21 Cermak buses will travel over the regular route to Kedzie then will operate via Kedzie, 26th Street, Blue Island, Cermak and then resume the regular route.  Westbound buses will travel the reverse route.

Northbound #49 Western buses will travel over the regular route to 26th Street then will operate via 26th, Kedzie, Odgen to Western and then resume the regular route.  Southbound buses will travel the reverse route.

Northbound #50 Damen buses will travel over the regular route to Blue Island then will operate via Blue Island, Cermak, Racine, Roosevelt then return to Damen and resume the regular route.  Southbound buses will travel the reverse route.

South Side Irish St. Patrick’s Day Parade Closes Western Avenue Sunday

Western Avenue will be closed from 99th Street to 115th, and 103rd will be closed from Maplewood to Oakley on Sunday, March 15 for the South Side Irish St. Patrick’s Day Parade. The parade steps off at noon and will proceed south on Western from 103rd to 115th.

Westbound #103 West 103rd buses will operate via 103rd, Longwood, 99th, Kedzie and103rd, then resume the regular route.  Eastbound buses will travel the reverse route.

Westbound #112 Vincennes/111th buses will operate via 111th, Longwood, 119th, Kedzie and 111th and then resume the regular route. Eastbound buses will travel the reverse route.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

Six Bus Routes Temporarily Detoured Due to Helicopter Lift

Michigan Avenue will be closed between Wacker and South Water from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Sunday, March 15 due to a helicopter lift impacting six bus routes.

Southbound #3 King Drive, #145 Wilson/Michigan Express, #147 Outer Drive Express and #151 Sheridan buses will travel over the regular route to Wacker then will operate via Wacker, State, Washington and then return to Michigan and resume the regular route.

Northbound #145, #147 and #151 buses will operate along State Street to Wacker then will operate via Wacker to Michigan and then resume the regular route.
Northbound #3 buses will travel over the regular route to Randolph then will operate via Randolph, State, Wacker, Michigan and then resume the regular route.

Southbound #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express buses will travel over the regular route to Wacker then will operate via Wacker to State and resume the regular route.

Northbound buses will travel along State to Wacker then operate via Wacker to Michigan and then resume the regular route.

Northbound #6 Jackson Park Express buses will travel over the regular route to Randolph then will operate via Randolph, Columbus to Wacker and then resume the regular route.  Southbound buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.

Daytime Reroute of #65 Grand Buses Due to Bridge Lifts on Tuesday

The Grand Avenue Bridge over the Chicago River will be closed on Tuesday, March 17 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. due to bridge lifts.

Eastbound #65 Grand buses will operate over the regular route along Grand to Halsted then will travel via Halsted, Chicago, Wells to Illinois and resume the regular route. Westbound #65 buses will operate over the regular route along Grand to Orleans then will travel via Orleans, Chicago, Halsted to Grand and resume the regular route.

Changes to Bus Stops along the #71 71st/South Shore

To improve service along the #71 71st/South Shore bus route, the eastbound near side bus stop located at 71st/Rhodes will be eliminated. Customers are advised to board and exit eastbound #71 buses from the bus stop located at 71st/Eberhart, which will be relocated from a near side stop to a far side stop. These changes will be in effect at the start of service on Wednesday, March 18.

Halsted Street Bridge Lifts Temporarily Detours #8 Halsted Buses on Wednesday

The Halsted Street Bridge over the Chicago River North Branch Canal will be closed from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18 due to bridge lifts.

Northbound #8 Halsted buses will travel over the regular route along Halsted to Chicago then will operate via Chicago, Larrabee, Crosby, Division to Halsted and resume the regular route. Southbound #8 buses will travel the reverse route.

#156 LaSalle Buses Rerouted on Thursday for Bridge Lifts

From 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 19, the LaSalle Street Bridge over the Chicago River will be closed to all traffic due to bridge lifts.

Northbound #156 LaSalle buses will operate over the regular route along LaSalle to Wacker then will travel via Wacker, Dearborn, Kinzie to LaSalle and resume the regular route. Southbound #156 buses will operate over the regular route along LaSalle to Kinzie then will travel via Kinzie, Clark, Wacker to LaSalle and resume the regular route.

Chicago River Closure Reroutes Buses

The Chicago Bridge over the Chicago River will be closed from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. on Friday, March 20.

Eastbound #66 Chicago buses will travel over the regular route to Halsted then will operate via Halsted, Division, Crosby, Larrabee then return to Chicago and resume the regular route. Westbound buses will travel the reverse route.

Ongoing Bus Reroutes

Buses Rerouted on Harrison Due to Construction

Harrison Street between Paulina and Ashland will be closed to all traffic through March 2009, due to construction.

Eastbound #7 Harrison buses will travel over the regular route to Paulina then will operate via Polk, Ashland to Harrison and then resume the regular route.

Eastbound #126 Jackson buses operating during late evenings, weekends and holidays will travel over the regular route to Harrison then will operate via Harrison, Wood, Polk, Ashland to Harrison and then resume the regular route.

#7 Harrison Bus Stop Temporarily Relocated

Until further notice, the westbound mid-block bus stop located at Harrison near Paulina served by the #7 Harrison will be temporarily relocated around the corner on Paulina due to construction.

Pavement Work along 47th Street Reroutes Eastbound #47 Buses until April 1

Eastbound 47th Street will be closed between Normal and Shields until 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, due to pavement restoration work.

Eastbound #47 47th buses will operate over the regular route along 47th to Halsted then will travel via Halsted, 51st, Princeton to 47th and then resume the regular route. Westbound #47 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.

Temporary Relocation of Bus Terminal at Ford City Mall

Until 3 p.m. Monday, June 8, the CTA bus terminal located at Ford City Mall will be temporarily relocated approximately 800 feet southeast due to construction. This terminal is served by #54B South Cicero and #79 79th buses.

Eastbound #63 63rd buses will operate over the regular route along 63rd Street to Wentworth then will travel via Wentworth, 59th, State to 63rd and then resume the regular route. Westbound #63 buses will operate over the regular route along 63rd Street to State then will travel via State, 59th, Wells to 63rd and then resume the regular route.

Bus Stop Relocated Due to Construction at Chestnut and Lake Shore Drive

The bus stop located at Chestnut and Lake Shore Drive served by #10 Museum of Science & Industry and #157 Streeterville buses has been relocated due to construction. Customers must board and exit #157 buses at Inner Lake Shore Drive and Pearson.

#10 customers should board on Chestnut between Mies van der Rohe and Michigan or on Michigan southbound at Pearson.

Temporary Removal of Bus Stops at Cottage Grove/57th Street

The northbound far side and southbound near side bus stops near the intersection of Cottage Grove and 57th Street will be temporarily eliminated until further notice due to sewer repair work. These bus stops are served by northbound and southbound #2 Hyde Park Express, #4 Cottage Grove and #X4 Cottage Grove Express buses.

During this time, customers are advised to board #2, #4 and #X4 buses either one block north at Cottage Grove and 56th Street, or one block south at Cottage Grove and 58th Street.

#60 Blue Island/26th Buses Rerouted Due to Street Closure

Until further notice, Laflin Street between Cermak and 21st Place will be closed to all traffic due to construction at Benito Juarez School. Eastbound #60 Blue Island/26th buses will travel over the regular route to Cermak then will operate via Cermak, Loomis, 21st Street then return to Laflin and resume the regular route. Westbound #60 buses will operate the reverse route.
