Events Affecting CTA Service Beginning the Weekend of June 29-July 1

June 29, 2012
IMPORTANT NOTE: CTA buses and trains will operate on a Sunday/holiday schedule on Wednesday, July 4; however, additional bus service will be provided and longer trains will operate for customers heading to and from the Navy Pier fireworks displays.
 
Due to the anticipated increase in ridership on July 4, bicycles are not allowed on trains and as a courtesy to other customers, strollers and carts must be folded on all CTA vehicles.
 

Loop Track Renewal Work

Loop Track closures Friday night through Monday morning

From 10 p.m. Friday, June 29 through 4 a.m. Monday, July 2, the inner and outer elevated tracks along Wells and Van Buren streets will be closed. During this time, all trains serving the Loop elevated will operate along the Wabash and Lake sections of track.
 
Bus Reroutes
From 7 p.m. Friday, June 29 until 6 a.m. Monday, July 2, buses operating along the
#7 Harrison, #11 Lincoln Sedgwick, #20 Madison, #56 Milwaukee, #60 Blue Island/26th, #126 Jackson, #130 Museum Campus and #151 Sheridan buses will be detoured due to the closure of Washington Street between Franklin and LaSalle and Wells Street between Lake and Randolph and also between Monroe and Van Buren.

All rail lines and bus routes serving the Loop will resume normal operations at the start of service on Monday, July 2.
 

Blue Line

Late Night Boarding Changes at the Montrose Station Next Week

All late night Blue Line trains will be routed to operate on the northbound (to O’Hare) tracks at the Montrose station from 10 p.m. Sunday, July 1 until 4 a.m. the following morning, due to crews performing track maintenance work.
 
During this time, customers at the Montrose station must board and exit trains from the northbound (to O’Hare) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 
Next Week – Affecting Northbound (to O’Hare) Trains
From 10 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning on Monday night, July 2; Tuesday night, July 3 and then again on Thursday night, July 5, all late night Blue Line trains will be routed to operate on the southbound (to Forest Park) tracks at the Montrose station as crews continue track maintenance work.
 
During these times, northbound (to O’Hare) customers at the Montrose station must board and exit trains from the southbound (to Forest Park) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Green Line

Temporary Closure of Exit-Only Stairway at East End of Cicero Station

Currently in effect until 4 a.m. Monday, July 2, the east mezzanine-to-street auxiliary exit to the north side of Lake Street at the Cicero Green Line station is temporarily closed while crews perform work associated with the Station Renewal project.
 
During this time, customers are being directed to use the main entrance/exit or exit using the east mezzanine-to-street auxiliary exit to the south side of Lake Street.
 

Nightly Closure of Auxiliary Stairway at the Kedzie Station Next Week

The auxiliary stairway to the westbound (to Harlem/Lake) platform of the Kedzie Green Line station will be temporarily closed from 8 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Sunday night, July 1 through Wednesday morning, July 4, while crews perform work associated with the Station Renewal project.
 
During these times, customers will be directed to access the westbound (to Harlem/Lake) platform using the main station entrance.
 

Red Line

Morse Station Temporarily Closes for Up to Six Weeks

Beginning at 11:59 p.m. Friday, June 29, the Morse Red Line station will be temporarily closed for up to six weeks due to work associated with the Red North Interim Station Improvement project. During this time, crews will perform much needed capital and maintenance work on the Morse stationhouse, platform, viaduct and trackbed.
 
Alternate Service Options for Morse Customers
While the Morse station is temporarily closed, customers will be directed to use either the nearby Jarvis or Loyola stations, which are both approximately four blocks to the north and south, respectively. Customers can also board a westbound #155 Devon bus from Morse Avenue and travel to the Loyola station.
 
As an alternate to rail service, there are also several bus service options available within two-blocks east of the Morse station along Sheridan Road (#96 Lunt, #147 Outer Drive Express, #151 Sheridan or #155 Devon) or two-blocks west on Clark (#22 Clark).

Southbound Trains to Bypass Jarvis through Loyola this Weekend

Due to crews performing track and viaduct repairs as part of the Red North Station Interim Improvement project, southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) Red Line trains will be unable to stop at the Jarvis, Morse or Loyola stations this weekend beginning 10 p.m. Friday, June 29 until 4 a.m. Monday, July 2.
 
Customers who want to travel southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) from the Jarvis, Morse or Loyola stations need to travel north to Howard and transfer to a southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) train.
 
Southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) customers who want to exit at the Jarvis, Morse or Loyola stations will need to travel to Thorndale and transfer to a northbound (to Howard) train.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
 
Note: temporary street closures near the Morse station are currently in effect due to work associated with track and viaduct work. Buses operating along the #96 Lunt and #155 Devon routes are being detoured. See below for reroute details.
 

Late Night Boarding Changes at 87th Street Station Next Week

All late night Red Line trains will be routed to operate on the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) tracks at the 87th Street station from 10:30 p.m. each night until 4:30 a.m. the following morning beginning Monday, July 2 through Wednesday morning, July 4, due to track maintenance work.
 
During these times, northbound (to Howard) customers at the 87th Street station must board and exit trains from the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) side of the platform.
 
CTA operators will announce the direction of each train. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. 
 

Late Night Single Track Operations in Effect between Grand and Clark/Division

All late night Red Line trains will be routed to operate on the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) tracks at the Grand, Chicago and Clark/Division stations from 10:30 p.m. Thursday, July 5 until 4:30 a.m. the following morning, while crews replace portions of running rail.
 
Northbound (to Howard) customers at the Grand and Chicago stations must board and exit trains from the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) platform.
 
Northbound (to Howard) customers at the Clark/Division station must board and exit trains from the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) side of the platform.
 
CTA operators will announce the direction of each train. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. 
 

Service for Upcoming Events

Navy Pier Fireworks Display

Additional bus service will be provided and longer trains will operate for customers heading to and from the Navy Pier fireworks displays on Wednesday, July 4.  
 
Rail Service
  • Red Line: from 4 p.m. until 1 a.m., longer trains will operate approximately every 7-10 minutes.
  • Blue Line: from 6 p.m. until 12:30 a.m., longer trains will operate approximately every 7-10 minutes.
  • Brown Line: from 5 p.m. until midnight, longer trains will operate approximately every 10 minutes.
  • Green/Orange/Pink Lines: from early evening until 1 a.m., longer trains will operate approximately every 12-15 minutes.
  • Yellow Line: the last northbound (to Skokie) train will depart from Howard at midnight. The last southbound (to Howard) train will depart Skokie at 12:15 p.m.
 
Bus Service
CTA bus routes in the vicinity of Navy Pier and the lakefront will undergo reroutes so customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
 
Following the fireworks, CTA customers at Navy Pier will be directed to buses awaiting them at the circular drive at the Pier. Having a dedicated space for buses will help CTA to board customers quickly and help mitigate congestion.
 
The following routes that regularly serve Navy Pier will provide extra service on July 4 for one hour after fireworks end or as crowds warrant: #29 State, #65 Grand, #66 Chicago and #124 Navy Pier. Sunday/holiday service hours will be in effect along these routes on Wednesday, July 4.
 
Additional bus service also will be provided on the #12 Roosevelt and #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express routes, which serve the Museum Campus area.
 

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

Red Line Viaduct Work Detours #96 Lunt and #155 Devon Buses Until Monday AM

Currently in effect until 6 a.m. Monday, July 2, #96 Lunt and #155 Devon buses are being detoured due to the closure of Morse between Glenwood and Wayne and Lunt between Glenwood and Sheridan for Red Line viaduct work.
 
Eastbound #96 buses are traveling over the regular route to Morse/Ashland before turning to begin westbound service. From Morse/Ashland, westbound #96 buses are traveling via Ashland to Lunt and resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #155 buses are operating over the regular route along Ashland past Morse to Greenleaf then traveling via Greenleaf, Sheridan to Morse before beginning westbound service. From Sheridan/Morse, westbound #155 are traveling over the regular route.
 

Sewer Work at Avenue O/131st Street Detours #30 South Chicago Buses

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Monday, July 9, #30 South Chicago buses are being detoured due to the closure of Avenue O between 131st and 133rd streets for sewer repair work.
 
Southbound #30 buses are traveling over the regular route along Avenue O to 131st Street then are operating via 131st Street, Avenue N, 133rd Street to Avenue O and resuming the regular route. Northbound #30 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Montrose Viaduct Removal Detours #78 Montrose Buses

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, July 13, #78 Montrose buses are being detoured due to the closure of Montrose Avenue between West Ravenswood and East Ravenswood for viaduct removal work.
 
Eastbound #78 buses will operate over the regular route along Montrose to Damen then will travel via Damen, Lawrence, Ashland to Montrose and then resume the regular route. Westbound #78 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Temporary Relocation of Bus Stop at Cicero/63rd Street

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, August 24, the northbound near side stop at Cicero/63rd Street has been relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction work. This stop is served by #54B South Cicero and #65 West 65th buses.
 

Bus Detours for Loop Track Renewal Work

From 7 p.m. Friday, June 29 until 6 a.m. Monday, July 2, #7 Harrison, #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick, #20 Madison, #56 Milwaukee, #60 Blue Island/26th, #126 Jackson, #130 Museum Campus and #151 Sheridan buses will be detoured due to the closure of Washington Street between Franklin and LaSalle and Wells Street between Lake and Randolph and also between Monroe and Van Buren for work associated with the Loop Track Renewal project.

#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
Southbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses will operate over the regular route along Wells to Wacker then will travel via Wacker, Clark to Van Buren and resume the regular route east on van Buren past Franklin. Northbound #11 buses will operate over the regular route along Canal past Jackson to Monroe then will travel via Monroe to Franklin and resume the regular route.
 
#20 Madison and #56 Milwaukee
Eastbound #20 Madison and southbound #56 Milwaukee buses will travel over their regular routes along Washington to Franklin then will operate via Franklin, Monroe, LaSalle to Washington and resume their regular routes. Northbound #20 and #56 buses are not affected and will travel over their regular routes.
 
#60 Blue Island/26th
Eastbound #60 Blue Island/26th buses will operate over the regular route along Canal to Monroe then will travel via Monroe, LaSalle to Washington and resume the regular route. Westbound #60 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 
#126 Jackson
Eastbound #126 Jackson buses will travel over the regular route along Canal past Jackson to Monroe then will operate via Monroe, Clark to Jackson and resume the regular route. Westbound #126 buses will travel over the regular route along Adams to Clark then will operate via Clark, Van Buren and resume the regular route west on Van Buren past Clinton.
 
#130 Museum Campus
Eastbound #130 Museum Campus buses will operate over the regular route along Clinton to Monroe then will travel via Monroe, State and resume the regular route south on State past Jackson. Westbound #130 buses will operate over the regular route along Adams to Dearborn then will travel via Dearborn, Madison to Canal and resume the regular route.
 
#151 Sheridan
Southbound #151 Sheridan buses will travel over the regular route along Michigan to Madison then will operate via Madison, Clinton, Adams to Canal before beginning northbound service. From Adams/Canal, northbound #151 buses will travel north on Canal to Monroe then will operate via Monroe to State and resume the regular route.  
 

Three Routes Detoured Saturday Night for the Annual L.A.T.E. Ride Event

From 3 p.m. Saturday, June 30 until approximately 9:30 a.m. Sunday, July 1, #6 Jackson Park Express, #10 Museum of Science & Industry and #14 Jeffery Express buses will be detoured due to the closure of Columbus Drive between Roosevelt and Congress and Balbo between Michigan and Lake Shore Drive for the annual L.A.T.E. Ride event.
 
Northbound #6 and #14 buses will travel over their regular routes along Columbus to Roosevelt then will operate via Roosevelt to Michigan and then resume their regular routes north on Michigan past Balbo.
 
Northbound #10 buses will operate over the regular route along Columbus to Roosevelt then will travel via Roosevelt, Michigan to Balbo and then resume the regular route.
 
Southbound #6, #10 and #14 buses will travel over their regular routes along Michigan past Balbo to Roosevelt then will travel via Roosevelt to Columbus and then resume their regular routes.
 

Ongoing Bus Service Changes

Sewer Work Detours Northbound #54 Cicero Buses

Currently in effect until approximately 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 3, northbound #54 Cicero buses are being detoured due to the closure of the northbound lanes of Cicero between Roosevelt and Lexington for sewer repair work.
 
Northbound #54 buses are traveling over the regular route along Cicero to Roosevelt then are operating via Roosevelt, Laramie, Lexington to Cicero and resuming the regular route. Southbound #54 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 

Temporary Reroute of Northbound #171 and #172 Routes Due to Construction

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, July 7, northbound #171 U of C/Hyde Park and #172 U of C/Kenwood buses are being detoured due to the closure of Dorchester between 59th and 60th streets.
 
Northbound #171 and #172 buses are operating over their regular routes along 60th Street past Dorchester to Stony Island then are traveling via Stony Island, 59th Street to Dorchester and resuming their regular routes. Southbound #171 and #172 buses are not affected and are traveling over their regular routes.
 

Wacker Drive Stage IV Reroutes

Until further notice, changes in service along 18 downtown CTA bus routes are now in effect due to the closure of Jackson and Adams streets at Wacker Drive for work associated with Stage IV of the Revive Wacker Drive, Part 2 project.
 
As a result of these street closures and the reopening of Monroe at Wacker, buses operating along the 18 affected routes are either being rerouted, returned to their original routing or only have minor changes in bus stop locations (see separate release for details). Customers are advised to allow extra travel time along these routes:

Eastbound #64 Foster/Canfield Buses Detoured for Viaduct Reconstruction Work
Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, August 17, eastbound #64 Foster/Canfield buses are being detoured due to the closure of Higgins/Oriole for the reconstruction of the nearby viaduct over the Kennedy Expressway.
 
Eastbound #64 buses are traveling over the regular route along Canfield to Seminole then are operating via Seminole to Higgins and then resuming the regular route. Westbound #64 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 

Sewer Reconstruction Work Detours Southbound #90N North Harlem Buses

Currently in effect until approximately 6 p.m. Friday, August 31, #90N North Harlem buses are being detoured due to the closure of Harlem between Greenleaf and Lunt for sewer reconstruction work.
 
Southbound #90N buses are traveling over the regular route along Touhy past Harlem to Milwaukee then operating via Milwaukee, Devon to Harlem and resuming the regular route. Northbound #90N buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 

Bus Stop Changes Due to Kedzie Bridge Reconstruction Work

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Monday, October 1, the following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by #52A South Kedzie, #67 67th/69th/71st and #94 South California due to reconstruction work on the Kedzie Avenue Bridge between Marquette and 71st Street:
 
#52A South Kedzie
  • Kedzie/Marquette: the northbound far side stop has been temporarily relocated to a westbound near side stop on Marquette at Kedzie.
  • Kedzie/71st Street: the southbound far side stop has been temporarily removed from service.
 
#67 67th/69th/71st
  • 71st Street/Kedzie: the westbound near side stop has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop.
 
#94 South California
  • 71st Street/Kedzie: the westbound stop has been temporarily removed from service.
 

Temporary Relocation of #75 74th/75th Bus Stop

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, October 12, the eastbound near side stop at 75th Street/Constance has been relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction. This stop is served by #75 74th/75th buses.
 

Saturdays: Near North Farmer’s Market Detours #36 Broadway, #70 Division Buses

From 5 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Saturday through October 27, #36 Broadway and #70 Division buses will be detoured due to the closure of Division Street between State and Clark for the Near North Farmer’s Market.
 
Southbound #36 buses will travel over the regular route along Clark past Division to Maple then will operate via Maple to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along State to Elm then will travel via Elm to Clark and then resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #70 buses will travel over the regular route along Division to Clark and then will operate via Clark, Maple to Dearborn and then resume the regular route. Westbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route. 
 

New Routing for #24 Wentworth Buses Traveling to 87th/Racine Only

Currently in effect until further notice, the routing of #24 Wentworth buses traveling to 87th Street/Racine only has been changed on a trial basis to serve the new businesses along Holland Road, in response to customer feedback.
 
As a result, southbound and northbound #24 buses (to 87th Street/Racine) are no longer operating on Vincennes between 83rd and 87th streets. Instead, southbound buses are traveling over the regular route along Vincennes to 83rd Street, then operating via 83rd Street, Princeton/Holland, 87th Street to Vincennes and continuing west on 87th Street over the regular route. Northbound buses will travel the reverse.
 

Weekdays Only: Temporary Change in Routing for Northbound #147 Buses

Currently in effect until further notice, from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. on weekdays only northbound #147 Outer Drive Express buses will undergo a temporary change in routing due to heavy traffic congestion on Congress between Michigan and State.
 
From 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. on weekdays only, northbound #147 buses will travel over the regular route along Congress to Michigan then will operate via Michigan, Van Buren to State and then resume the regular route.
 
During all other hours of operation, northbound #147 buses will operate over the regular route via Congress to State. Southbound #147 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.


Temporary Relocation of #72 North Avenue Bus Stop

Currently in effect until approximately 6 p.m. Monday, April 23, 2013, the westbound near side stop at North Avenue/Washtenaw has been relocated to a far side stop. This stop is served by #72 North Avenue buses.
 

Temporary Relocation of Bus Stop at Lake Park/53rd Street

Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Thursday, May 2, 2013, the southbound near side stop at Lake Park/53rd Street has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction work. This stop is served by #6 Jackson Park Express, #X28 Stony Island Express and #171 U of C/Hyde Park buses.
 

Relocation of #36 Broadway Bus Stop Due to Nearby Construction

Currently in effect until Friday, July 12, 2013, the southbound near side stop at Broadway/Elmdale served by #36 Broadway buses has been relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction.
 

Removal of Bus Stop Change Affects Five Routes

Currently in effect until Thursday, August 1, 2013, the mid-block bus stop located at 5800 South Stony Island has been temporarily removed due to construction. This stop is served by the #2 Hyde Park Express, #6 Jackson Park Express, #15 Jeffery Local, #28 Stony Island and #X28 Stony Island Express buses.
