Blue Line – Other Events Affecting Service
Trains to Operate on a Single Track between the Racine and LaSalle Stations
A late night single track will be in effect for eastbound Blue Line trains on the Forest Park branch between the Racine and LaSalle stations from 10 p.m. Friday, June 18 until 6 a.m. the following morning and then again from 10 p.m. Saturday, June 19 until 7 a.m. the following morning, due to sewer cleaning.
Eastbound Blue Line customers at the UIC-Halsted, Clinton and LaSalle stations must board and exit trains from the westbound side of the platform.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
Early Morning Single Track between the Belmont and California Stations Next Week
An early morning single track will be in effect for northbound Blue Line trains between the Belmont and California stations on the O’Hare branch from 1 a.m. until 4 a.m. Tuesday, June 22 and then again from 1 a.m. until 4 a.m. Thursday, June 24, due to scheduled maintenance work along the right of way.
During these times, northbound Blue Line customers at the Logan Square station must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
Orange Line – Other Events Affecting Service
Trains to Operate on a Single Track between 35th/Archer and Western
A late night single track will be in effect for southbound Orange Line trains between the 35th/Archer and Western stations from 9 p.m. Sunday, June 20 until the end of service (approximately midnight), due to routine track maintenance.
Southbound Orange Line customers at the Western station must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
Next Week
From 9 p.m. each night until the end of service (approximately 1:30 a.m.) on Monday night, June 21 and then again on Tuesday night, June 22, a late night single track will be in effect for southbound Orange Line trains between the 35th/Archer and Western stations as track maintenance work continues.
During these times, southbound Orange Line customers at the Western station must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
Red Line – Other Events Affecting Service
Late Night Single Track in Effect at the North/Clybourn Station
A late night single track will be in effect for northbound Red Line trains at the North/Clybourn station from 11 p.m. Friday, June 18 until 5 a.m. the following morning and then again from 11 p.m. Saturday, June 19 until 6 a.m. the following morning, due to station refurbishment work.
During these times, northbound Red Line customers at the North/Clybourn station must board and exit trains from the southbound platform.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
Next Week
From 11 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Sunday night, June 20 through Friday morning, June 25, a late night single track will be in effect for northbound Red Line trains at the North/Clybourn station as station refurbishment work continues.
During these times, northbound Red Line customers at the North/Clybourn station must board and exit trains from the southbound platform.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
Service for Upcoming Events
Additional Service Provided for Eagles/Keith Urban/Dixie Chicks Concert at Soldier Field
CTA will provide additional service for those heading to the Eagles/Keith Urban/Dixie Chicks Concert at Soldier Field on Saturday, June 19, which is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Doors will open at 4 p.m.
Starting at 3 p.m. more frequent service will begin along the #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express routes. Following the concert, buses will leave every 12 minutes until one hour after the concert ends.
New/Updated Changes in Bus Service
Reinstatement of #66 Chicago Bus Stop at Chicago/Clark
The eastbound near side stop at Chicago/Clark served by #66 Chicago buses has been returned to service. This stop was temporarily removed from service due to nearby construction.
Temporary Relocation of #66 Chicago Bus Stop at Chicago/Pulaski
Currently in effect until 3 p.m. Monday, June 21, the westbound near side stop at Chicago/Pulaski served by #66 Chicago buses has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop due to a sewer construction project.
Temporary Relocation of #78 Montrose Bus Stop at Wilson/Broadway
Currently in effect until 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 23, the eastbound near side stop at Wilson/Broadway served by #78 Montrose buses has been temporarily relocated 50 feet west from the original location due to a sewer construction project.
Late Night Reroute of Buses Due to Wells Street Bridge Repair Work
Currently in effect until Monday morning, June 21, the Wells Street Bridge over the main branch of the Chicago River will be closed to traffic from 9 p.m. each night until 7 a.m. the following morning, due to bridge repair work.
Southbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses will operate over the regular route along Wells to Kinzie then will travel via Kinzie, LaSalle, Wacker to Wells and then resume the regular route. Northbound #11 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
Southbound #125 Water Tower Express buses will travel over the regular route along Wells to Kinzie then will operate via Kinzie, LaSalle to Wacker and then resume the regular route. Northbound #125 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
Daytime Reroute in Effect for Select #24 Wentworth Buses
Currently in effect until Friday, July 2, Vincennes Avenue between 84th Street and Lowe will be closed to all traffic from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. daily due to sewer repair work. As a result of this street closure, only #24 Wentworth buses operating between Clark/Wacker and 87th Street/Racine will be affected.
Northbound and southbound #24 buses operating between Clark/Wacker and 79th Street/Vincennes are not affected and will travel over their regular routes.
#24 Wentworth Buses to 87th Street/Racine (only)
Northbound #24 buses will operate over the regular route along Vincennes to Halsted then will travel via Halsted to the 79th Street/Halsted terminal and continue through the terminal to Emerald then operate via Emerald, 79th to Vincennes and resume the regular route. Southbound #24 buses will travel the reverse route.
Temporary Reroute of Westbound #17 Westchester Buses
Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Friday, June 25, northbound Des Plaines Avenue at Madison in Forest Park will be closed to traffic due to curb and sidewalk construction work. As a result of this street closure, westbound #17 Westchester buses departing from the Forest Park Blue Line terminal will undergo a temporary reroute.
Westbound #17 Westchester buses departing from the Forest Park Blue Line station are exiting the terminal traveling west on the service drive to Van Buren then are operating via Van Buren to Madison and resuming the regular route. Eastbound #17 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
Fiesta Back of the Yards Festival Detours #47 47th Buses This Weekend
Currently in effect until 6 a.m. Monday, June 21, 47th Street between Ashland and Damen will be closed for The Fiesta Back of the Yards festival.
Eastbound #47 47th buses are operating over the regular route along 47th Street to Damen then are traveling via Damen, 51st Street, Ashland to 47th Street and then resuming the regular route. Westbound #47 buses are traveling the reverse route.
UPDATE: Service Adjustments Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project
Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project, Franklin Street between Harrison and Van Buren and Lower Wacker Drive between Randolph and Harrison are closed until May 2012. As a result of these closures and other street reconfigurations, the following changes in bus service currently are in effect:
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
Northbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses are traveling over the regular route along Harrison to Canal then are operating via Canal, Jackson to Franklin and resuming the regular route. Southbound #11 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
The following temporary changes also have been made to bus stops served by northbound #11 buses:
- Canal/Harrison: a far side stop has been added to service.
- Canal/Jackson: a near side stop has been added to service.
- Jackson at the Chicago River: a near side stop has been added to service.
- 404 W. Harrison: the mid-block stop has been removed from service.
- Franklin/Van Buren: the far side stop has been removed from service.
#121 Union/Wacker Express
Northbound #121 Union/Wacker Express buses are operating over the regular route along Jackson past Wacker to Franklin then are traveling via Franklin, Lake, Post Place to Lower Wacker and then resuming the regular route.
Southbound #121 buses are operating over the regular route along Lower Wacker to the exit ramp for Upper Wacker and then traveling via Upper Wacker to Adams and resuming the regular route west on Adams.
#135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express buses are traveling south on Wacker to Jackson then are traveling east on Jackson past Franklin and resuming the regular route.
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #135 buses:
- Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
- Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
#136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #136 Sheridan/LaSalle buses are operating south on Wacker to Van Buren then are traveling via Van Buren, Canal to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #136 buses:
- Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
- Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
#156 LaSalle (PM Service Only)
During the evening rush period only, northbound #156 LaSalle buses departing from Union Station are traveling west on Van Buren to Wacker then are operating via Wacker to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
The following temporary bus stop change has been made and is in effect for northbound #156 buses during the evening rush period only:
- Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
Annual Puerto Rican Parade Reroutes CTA Buses
From 6 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday, June 19, Columbus Drive between Monroe and Roosevelt, and Monroe Drive between Lake Shore Drive and Michigan Avenue will be closed for the annual Puerto Rican Parade. The parade will step-off at noon.
Southbound #6 Jackson Park Express, #10 Museum of Science & Industry and #14 Jeffery Express buses will operate along their regular routes to Balbo/Michigan and then will travel via Michigan, Roosevelt to Columbus and then resume their regular routes. Northbound buses will travel the reverse route.
Children’s Memorial Race for Kids Detours Buses Saturday Morning
From 6 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 19, Museum Campus Drive between Waldron and McFetridge, and Solidarity Drive will be closed to all traffic due to the Children’s Memorial Race for Kids.
During this time, southbound #130 Museum Campus and #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express buses will not be able to make stops past McFetridge/Solidarity Drive. Buses instead will operate over their regular routes along Columbus, east on McFetridge to the south side of the Field Museum. Northbound #130 and #146 buses will operate west on McFetridge over the regular route.
Juneteenth Freedom Parade Detours Four Bus Routes on Saturday
Due to the annual Juneteenth Freedom Parade, 79th Street between Stony Island and South Shore Drive will be closed to all traffic from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturday, June 19. The parade will step-off at 10 a.m. and will proceed east on 79th Street from Stony Island to South Shore Drive.
Southbound #6 Jackson Park Express buses will operate over the regular route along South Shore Drive to the 75th Street terminal before turning to begin northbound service. Northbound #6 buses will depart from the terminal and travel east on 75th Street to South Shore Drive and resume the regular route.
Southbound #14 Jeffery Express and #15 Jeffery Local buses will travel over their regular routes along Jeffery Boulevard to 76th Street then will operate via 76th Street, Stony Island, South Chicago to Jeffery and then resume their regular routes.
Northbound #14 and #15 buses will operate over their regular routes along Jeffery Boulevard to Anthony then will travel via Anthony, Stony Island, 76th Street to Jeffery and then resume their regular routes.
Eastbound #79 79th buses will travel over the regular route along 79th Street to Stony Island then will operate via Stony Island, 76th Street, South Shore Drive, 75th Street to the terminal for end of route and start of westbound service from 75th Street/South Shore Drive. Westbound #79 buses will travel the reverse route.
10 Bus Routes Detoured for Set-Up Work for the Taste of Chicago
Beginning at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 19 until 5 p.m. Monday, July 5, Columbus Drive between Roosevelt and Monroe; Monroe Drive between Michigan and Lake Shore Drive; Jackson Drive between Michigan and Lake Shore Drive; Congress Parkway between Michigan and Columbus and Congress Plaza will be closed to all traffic in preparation for the Taste of Chicago.
As a result of these street closures, 10 CTA bus routes will be detoured to adjacent streets in order to maintain service.
Southbound #2 Hyde Park Express, #6 Jackson Park Express, #10 Museum of Science & Industry, #14 Jeffery Express, #26 South Shore Express and #X28 Stony Island Express buses will travel to Michigan/Balbo then will operate via Michigan, Roosevelt, Columbus and then resume their regular routes. Northbound #2, #6, #10, #14, #26 and #X28 buses will travel the reverse route.
Eastbound #7 Harrison and #126 Jackson buses will operate over their regular routes along Michigan to Congress then will travel via Congress, Wabash to Harrison for the end of route and start of westbound service. Westbound #7 and #126 buses will travel east on Harrison to Michigan and then resume their regular routes north on Michigan past Congress.
Eastbound #130 Goose Island buses will travel over the regular route along Michigan to Congress then will travel via Congress, Wabash to Harrison for the end of route and start of westbound service. Westbound #130 buses will travel via Harrison, Michigan to Van Buren and then resume the regular route.
Southbound #147 Outer Drive Express buses will travel over the regular route along Michigan to Harrison then will operate via Harrison to Wabash for the end of route and start of northbound service. Northbound #147 buses will operate west along Harrison to State then will travel north on State past Congress and resume the regular route.
Daytime Closure of the Jackson Street Bridge on Tuesday
The Jackson Street Bridge over the south branch of the Chicago River will be closed temporarily from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 22, due to bridge interlocking testing.
Eastbound #7 Harrison, #126 Jackson and #130 Museum Campus buses will travel over their regular routes along Jackson to Canal then will operate via Canal, Monroe, Wacker to Jackson and then resume their regular routes. Westbound #7, #126 and #130 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
Northbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses will be further rerouted to travel via Harrison, Canal, Jackson, Monroe, Wacker, Jackson to Franklin and then resume the regular route. Southbound #11 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
From Union Station, northbound #151 Sheridan buses will continue south on Canal to Van Buren then will operate via Van Buren, Jefferson, Jackson, Canal, Monroe, Wacker to Jackson and then resume the regular route. Southbound #151 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
Ongoing Bus Reroutes
#72 Bus Stop at North/Clybourn Red Line Station Temporarily Relocated Due to Construction
Currently in effect until Wednesday, June 30, the eastbound mid-block stop in front of the North/Clybourn station that is served by #72 North Avenue buses has been temporarily relocated to a near side stop at the intersection of North/Clybourn. The relocation is due to construction at the North/Clybourn Red Line station.
In addition, #72 buses now are serving the temporary far side stop at the North Avenue/Halsted intersection.
Water Main Reconstruction Project Detours Westbound #56A North Milwaukee Buses
Currently in effect until Sunday, August 1, Devon Avenue between New Castle and Oak Park will be closed to all traffic due to a water main reconstruction project.
Westbound #56A North Milwaukee buses are traveling over the regular route along Milwaukee to Nagle then are operating via Nagle, Northwest Highway to Harlem and then resuming the regular route.
#81 Lawrence Bus Stops near the Kennedy Expressway Temporarily Eliminated
Currently in effect until Tuesday, August 31, the eastbound and westbound near side bus stops on Lawrence at LeClaire served by #81 Lawrence buses have been temporarily removed from service due to rehabilitation work on the Lawrence Avenue viaduct.
Temporary Elimination of Bus Stop at Michigan/Delaware
Currently in effect until Tuesday, August 31, the southbound near side stop at Michigan/Delaware has been temporarily removed from service due to sidewalk reconstruction work.
This stop is served by #33 Mag Mile Express, #143 Stockton/Michigan Express, #144 Marine/Michigan Express, #145 Wilson/Michigan Express, #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express, #147 Outer Drive Express, #148 Clarendon/Michigan Express and #151 Sheridan buses.
Customers may board and exit these buses from the near side stop at Michigan/Pearson.
Temporary Relocation of #75 74th/75th Bus Stop at 75th Street/Jeffery
Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Thursday, September 30, the eastbound near side stop at 75th Street/Jeffery served by #75 74th/75th buses has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction.
#111 Pullman/111th/115th Buses Undergo Reroutes Due to Bridge Repair Work
Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Sunday, October 31, the 111th Street Bridge over Interstate 57 (I-57) is closed to all traffic due to bridge and deck replacement work.
Southbound #111 Pullman/111th/115th buses are operating over the regular route along 111th Street to Marshfield then traveling via Marshfield, 112th Place, Hamlet to 111th Street and then resuming the regular route east on 111th Street.
Northbound #111 buses are traveling over the regular route along 111th Street to Throop then operating via Throop, 107th Street, Vincennes and then resuming the regular route south on Vincennes past 111th Street.
Temporary Removal of #126 Jackson Bus Stop at Jackson/Sangamon
Currently in effect until Friday, September 30, 2011, the eastbound far side stop at Jackson/Sangamon served by #126 Jackson buses has been temporarily removed from service due to nearby construction. Customers may board and exit eastbound #126 buses at either Jackson/Morgan or Jackson/Peoria.
Buses Rerouted on Saturdays for the Near North Farmer’s Market
From 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Saturday through October 30, Division Street between State and Clark will be closed for the Near North Farmer’s Market.
Southbound #36 Broadway buses will travel over the regular route along Clark past Division to Maple then will operate via Maple to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along State to Elm then will travel via Elm to Clark and then resume the regular route.
Eastbound #70 Division buses will travel over the regular route along Division to Clark and then will operate via Clark, Maple to Dearborn and then resume the regular route. Westbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
Temporary Relocation of Bus Stop at Jeffery/75th Street
Currently in effect until further notice, the southbound far side bus stop at Jeffery/75th Street has been temporarily relocated to a near side stop due to sidewalk construction. This stop is served by southbound #14 Jeffery Express and #15 Jeffery Local buses.
Temporary Changes in Service for #21 Cermak and #62 Archer Buses Serving the Cermak-Chinatown Station
Currently in effect, customers at the Cermak-Chinatown Red Line station must use the new entrance located approximately one block north of Cermak on Archer Avenue. This entrance will serve as the primary access point for customers while the main entrance to the station on the north side of Cermak is reconstructed and made accessible.
As a result of these changes, and to accommodate customers transferring between bus and rail services, the following changes have been made to buses serving the station:
#21 Cermak
Eastbound #21 Cermak buses are traveling over the regular route along Cermak to Wentworth then operating via Wentworth, Archer, Clark to Cermak and resuming the regular route. Westbound #21 buses are traveling the reverse route.
- Cermak/Wentworth: the near side stop at Cermak/Wentworth served by eastbound #21 buses has been temporarily removed from service.
- Wentworth/Cermak: new temporary stops have been added at Wentworth/Cermak for eastbound and westbound #21 buses. Eastbound customers must board and exit buses from the far side stop; westbound customers must board and exit buses from the near side stop.
- Cermak/Red Line Station: the mid-block stop near the Cermak Road entrance of the Cermak-Chinatown station has been temporarily removed from service.
- Archer/Red Line Station: eastbound #21 buses are serving the new temporary mid-block stop near the Archer Avenue entrance of the Cermak-Chinatown station.
- Wentworth/Archer: westbound #21 buses are serving the new temporary far side stop at Wentworth/Archer.
#62 Archer
- Archer/Wentworth: the northbound near side stop at Archer/Wentworth served by #62 buses has been removed from service.
- Archer/Red Line Station: northbound #62 buses are serving the new mid-block stop near the Archer Avenue entrance of the Cermak-Chinatown station.
#56 Milwaukee Bus Stop at Milwaukee/Diversey Temporarily Relocated
Until further notice, the southbound near side bus stop at Milwaukee/Diversey served by #56 Milwaukee buses has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop.
Lane Restrictions near State and Grand Detour #29 State and #36 Broadway Buses
Due to lane restrictions associated with the Grand/State Red Line rehabilitation project at the northwest corner of State Street and Grand Avenue, #29 State and #36 Broadway buses are being detoured to adjacent streets until further notice.
Southbound #29 State buses are operating over the regular route along Grand past State to Clark then traveling via Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #29 buses are traveling along the remaining open lane along State and over the regular route.
Southbound #36 Broadway buses are traveling over the regular route along State to Ontario then operating via Ontario, Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #36 buses are operating over the regular route along Dearborn past Illinois to Ohio then traveling via Ohio to State and resuming the regular route.
Temporary Changes to Bus Stops near Sheridan/Foster
Currently in effect until further notice, the northbound near side stop at Sheridan/Foster has been temporarily removed from service due to the demolition and reconstruction of a nearby building. This stop is served by #136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express, #147 Outer Drive Express and #151 Sheridan buses.
