Events Affecting CTA Service Beginning the Weekend of June 16 - 18

Red Line - Dan Ryan Branch Rehabilitation:
CTA is working to replace track, power and signal systems and upgrade stations along the branch. When the work is completed, customers will experience more reliable service and modern station amenities.

Single Track in Effect on Red Line Over Weekend
A single track will be in effect between 45th and Garfield from 11 p.m. Friday, June 16 until 8 a.m. Saturday, June 17.

A single track will be in effect between 79th and 94th from 8 p.m. Saturday, June 17 until noon Sunday, June 18.

A single track will be in effect between 79th and 87th from 10 p.m. Sunday, June 18 until 4 a.m. Monday, June 19. Customers should allow extra travel time.

Single Track in Effect on Red Line Next Week
A single track will be in effect between 33rd and 45th from 11 p.m. Monday, June 19 until 4 a.m. Tuesday, June 20 and again in the same location, during the same hours Tuesday night.

A single track will be in effect between Garfield and 63rd from 11 p.m. Wednesday, June 21 until 4 a.m. Thursday, June 22 and again in the same location, during the same hours Thursday night.

Blue Line Signal Upgrade:
CTA is working to upgrade approximately 20 miles of the existing 40-year-old train control system and power supply equipment from the Forest Park terminal of the Blue Line Forest Park branch through the Dearborn subway to the Jefferson Park station of the Blue Line O'Hare branch.

These systems ensure the safe operation and movement of trains, and the appropriate speed and distance between trains as well as help CTA personnel manage rail service in the event of an emergency.

The upgraded signal system will result in improved reliability of service for Blue Line customers, and also includes upgrades to the power cables and communication system needed to connect the Red Line State Street subway and Blue Line Dearborn Street subway as part of the Block 37 project.

Single Track in Effect on Blue Line Forest Park Branch Friday
A three-phase single track will be in effect on the Forest Park branch this weekend. From 10 p.m. Friday, June 16 until 2 a.m. Saturday, June 17 the single track will be in effect between Forest Park and Harlem. From 2 a.m. to 6 p.m. the single track will be in effect between Forest Park and Lombard. From 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. the single track will be in effect between Forest Park and Harlem. Both inbound and outbound trains will be using a single track. Customers boarding at Harlem and Oak Park during the affected hours should board on the north side platform.

Milwaukee Avenue Closed Weekdays for Work in Blue Line O'Hare Branch Subway
Milwaukee is closed between Elston and Racine from 6 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. weekdays for approximately five months for work in the subway of the Blue Line O'Hare branch. Northbound #56 Milwaukee buses will operate via Milwaukee, Elston, Augusta, Willard, back to Milwaukee, then resume the regular route. Southbound service is not affected.

Other Events Affecting Service

Single Track Temporarily Closes Two Brown Line Platforms Saturday
A single track between the Chicago and Sedgwick stations from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday, June 17 will temporarily close two Brown Line platforms.

7 a.m. until noon
The northbound platforms at the Chicago and Sedwick stations will be temporarily closed. Northbound customers will need to board on the southbound platforms at these stations.

12:30 p.m. until 5 p.m.
The southbound platforms at the Sedgwick and Chicago stations will be temporarily closed. Southbound customers will need to board on the northbound platforms at these stations.

Single Track in Effect on Orange Line for Maintenance Next Week
A single track will be in effect between the Kedzie and Western stations from 9 p.m. Monday, June 19 until 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 20 and again in the same location, during the same hours Tuesday night. Customers should allow extra travel time.

Columbus Drive Closes for Puerto Rican Parade Saturday
Columbus Drive will be closed between Balbo and Monroe from 9 a.m. until 2:30 pm. Saturday, June 17. #6 Jackson Park Express, #10 Museum of Science & Industry, #14 Jeffery Express, #130 Grant Park Treasures and #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express buses that ordinarily operate via Columbus and Balbo will be rerouted in both directions to operate via Roosevelt and Michigan during the parade.

Chicago Avenue in Evanston Closes for Custer Street Fair Beginning Friday
Chicago Avenue will be closed between Kedzie and Main Street for the Custer Street Fair from 6 p.m. Friday, June 16 until 5 a.m. Monday, June 19. The closures will affect buses on the #200 Main Shuttle, #201 Central/Ridge and #205 Chicago/Golf routes.

#200 buses will operate in both directions via Main, Ridge, Greenleaf, Hinman, Chicago, and Main, then resume the regular route. #201 and #205 will operate in both directions via Chicago, Kedzie, Hinman, Main and Chicago, then resume the regular route.

Milwaukee Closes for Water Main Work Friday and Saturday
Milwaukee will be closed at 4600 North Milwaukee until 3:30 p.m. Friday, June 16 and from 8 a.m. until noon Saturday, June 17. Northbound #56 Milwaukee buses will operate via Montrose, Central, Higgins, back to Milwaukee, then resume the regular route.

Division Closes for People's Parade Saturday
Division will close between Western and Kedzie, and California will close between Division and North Avenue from noon until 4 p.m. Saturday, June 17.

Northbound #52 Kedzie/California buses will operate in both directions via California, Augusta, Western, North, and California, then resume the regular route.

Eastbound #70 Division buses will operate in both directions via Division, Grand, Homan, Augusta, Western, and Division, then resume the regular route.

Division Closes for Near North Farmers Market Every Saturday Through October 28
Division will be closed between State and Clark from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, June 17 and every Saturday through October.

Southbound #36 Broadway buses will operate via Clark to Maple to State, then resume the regular route. Northbound buses will operate via State, Elm, Clark, back to Division, then resume the regular route.

Eastbound #70 Division buses will operate via Division, Clark, Maple to Dearborn, then resume the regular route. Westbound service is not affected.

Grand Closes for Children's Memorial Hospital Loop-the-Loop 5K Race Sunday
Grand will be closed between Desplaines and Orleans from 7 a.m. until 11 a.m. Sunday, June 18. Eastbound #65 Grand buses will operate via Grand, Halsted, Chicago, Wells, back to Grand, to resume the regular route.

Westbound buses will operate via Grand, Orleans, Chicago, Halsted, back to Grand, then resume the regular route.

Weekday Service to Two Beaches Resumes Monday
Weekday bus service to two beaches will resume Monday, June 19 and operate through August 25. Beaches are open from 9 a.m. until 9:30 p.m. #63 63rd buses will operate to the 63rd Street Beach at Hayes and Lake Shore Drive. Regular terminal is 63rd and Stony Island. #72 North buses will serve the North Avenue Beach at LaSalle Drive. Regular terminal is North and Clark.

During the summer service schedule, the bus routes will travel to their regular terminals when the beaches are closed.

Cermak Closes for Street Improvements through December 1
Beginning at 9 a.m. Monday, June 19, Cermak will be closed between Rockwell and Western through Friday, December 1. #21 Cermak buses will operate in both directions via Cermak, California, 26th Street, Western and Cermak, then resume the regular route.
