All Rail Lines – Scheduling Changes

New Summer Service Schedule Goes into Effect on Sunday, June 12

Beginning Sunday, June 12, the CTA will adjust the hours of operation on the Green, Orange and Brown lines in an effort to provide earlier service to Midway Airport for travelers on weekends, provide more convenient transfers between rail lines and accommodate increases in ridership.
 
In addition, on Sunday all eight rail lines will have new schedules in effect. Most routes continue to have the same general frequency and span of service; however, arrival times may change up to a few minutes.

Pink Line – Events Affecting Service

Late Night Boarding Changes at the Kostner and Pulaski Stations

All Pink Line trains will be routed to operate on the westbound (to 54th/Cermak) tracks at the Kostner and Pulaski stations from 10 p.m. Sunday night, June 12 each night until 2 a.m. the following morning and then again from 10 p.m. Monday night, June 13 until 2 a.m. the following morning, due to track maintenance work.
 
During these times, eastbound (to the Loop) Pink Line customers at the Kostner and Pulaski stations must board and exit trains from the westbound (to 54th/Cermak) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 
Tuesday and Wednesday – affecting Westbound (to 54th/Cermak)
From 10 p.m. Tuesday night, June 14 until 2 a.m. the following morning and then again from 10 p.m. Wednesday night, June 15 until 2 a.m. the following morning, all Pink Line trains will be routed to operate on the eastbound (to the Loop) tracks as track maintenance work continues.
 
During these times, westbound (to 54th/Cermak) Pink Line customers at the Pulaski and Kostner stations must board and exit trains from eastbound (to the Loop) the side of the platform.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Two-Phase Single Track Operation in Effect at Cicero, Kostner and Pulaski

A two-phase single track operation will be in effect for all late night Pink Line trains operating between the Central Park and 54th/Cermak stations beginning Thursday night, June 16, due track maintenance work.
 
Phase I – at Pulaski and Kostner
From 10 p.m. until midnight Thursday, June 16, Pink Line customers at the Pulaski and Kostner stations traveling westbound (to 54th/Cermak) must board and exit trains from the eastbound (to the Loop) side of the platform.
 
Phase II – at Pulaski, Kostner and Cicero
From 12:01 a.m. until 2:05 a.m. Friday, June 17, Pink Line customers at the Pulaski, Kostner and Cicero stations traveling westbound (to 54th/Cermak) must board and exit trains from the eastbound (to the Loop) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Service for Upcoming Events

CTA Service for Concerts at the United Center

CTA’s #19 United Center Express will provide service for concert for those attending these upcoming concerts at the United Center:
 
  • Thursday, June 16 at 7:30 p.m. – Rihanna
  • Friday, June 17 at 7:30 p.m. – New Kids on the Block & Backstreet Boys
  • Saturday, June 18 at 7:30 p.m. – New Kids on the Block & Backstreet Boys
  • Monday, June 20 at 8 p.m. – Peter Gabriel
 
Buses will leave every 12-15 minutes from Michigan and Randolph beginning 90 minutes before the start of each event. After each event, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3 and will depart approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.
 
Temporary Changes in Routing for #19 Buses
Due to the Wacker Drive construction project, the following changes are in effect along the #19 route:
 
Eastbound #19 buses will operate over the regular route along Washington to Clinton then will travel via Clinton, Monroe, Franklin to Washington and then resume the regular route. In addition, the following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by eastbound buses only:
 
  • Clinton/Madison: buses are serving the southbound near side stop.
  • Monroe/Canal: buses are serving the eastbound far side stop.
  • Washington/Canal: buses are unable to serve the eastbound near side stop.
  • Washington/Franklin: the eastbound near side stop has been relocated to a far side stop.
 
Westbound #19 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route from Michigan/Randolph – making all stops on Madison from Wabash to Clinton and Halsted/Randolph before operating express to the United Center.
 

CTA Provides Service to CONCACAF Gold Cup Soccer Matches at Soldier Field

The CTA will provide additional service along select bus and rail routes serving the Soldier Field area in anticipation of large crowds attending the following CONCACAF Gold Cup soccer games on Sunday, June 12. Gates open at 3:30 p.m. for Game 1.
 
  • Game 1: El Salvador versus Cuba – 5 p.m.
  • Game 2: Mexico versus Costa Rica – 7 p.m.
 
Longer trains will operate on the Orange Line from Midway beginning at 3:30 p.m. until approximately 10:40 p.m. and on the Red Line beginning at 7 p.m. until approximately 10:30 p.m.
 
In addition, articulated buses will be available to accommodate additional customers on the #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express which serves Museum Campus adjacent to the stadium.
 
Buses Rerouted
In anticipation of heavy traffic along Roosevelt and Lake Shore Drive due to the soccer games at Soldier Field, buses operating along the #130 Museum Campus and #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express will be detoured from 3:30 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. on Sunday.
 
Southbound #130 and #146 buses will travel over their regular routes along Columbus to Lake Shore Drive then will operate via Lake Shore Drive, 18th Street to Museum Campus Drive and then resume their regular routes.
 
Northbound #130 and #146 buses will travel over their regular routes along Museum Campus Drive to Waldron then will operate via Waldron, Lake Shore Drive to Columbus and then resume their regular routes.
 

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

Temporary Removal of Bus Stop at Diversey/Seminary

Currently in effect until approximately 4:45 a.m. Friday, June 20, the eastbound near side stop at Diversey/Seminary served by #76 Diversey buses has been temporarily removed from service due to a sidewalk replacement project.
 

Fiesta Back of the Yards Festival Detours #47 47th Buses This Weekend

Currently in effect until 6 a.m. Monday, June 13, #47 47th buses are being detoured due to the closure of 47th Street between Ashland and Damen for the annual Fiesta Back of the Yards festival.
 
Eastbound #47 buses are operating over the regular route along 47th Street to Damen then are traveling via Damen, 51st Street, Ashland to 47th Street and then resuming the regular route. Westbound #47 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

North Center Ribfest Detours #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick Buses This Weekend

Currently in effect until 3 a.m. Monday, June 13, #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses are being detoured due to the closure of Lincoln Avenue between Irving Park and Warner for the North Center Ribfest.
 
Southbound #11 buses will travel over the regular route along Lincoln to Montrose then are operating via Montrose, Damen to Lincoln and resuming the regular route. Northbound #11 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

#22 Clark Buses Rerouted for the Annual Andersonville Midsommarfest

From 2 a.m. Saturday, June 11 until 11:59 p.m. Sunday, June 12, #22 Clark buses are being detoured due to the closure of Clark Street between Foster and Catalpa for the annual Andersonville Midsommarfest.
 
Southbound #22 buses will travel over the regular route along Clark to Bryn Mawr then will operate via Bryn Mawr, Ashland, Foster to Clark and then resume the regular route. Northbound #22 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Buses Detoured on Sunday for the University of Chicago’s Commencement

From 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. Sunday, June 11, #171 U of C/Hyde Park and #172 U of C/Kenwood buses will be detoured due to the closure of Ellis Avenue between 57th Street and 59th Street, and University Avenue between 57th Street and 59th Street for the University of Chicago’s commencement services.
 
Southbound #171 and #172 buses will travel over their regular routes along Ellis to 57th Street then will operate via 57th Street, Cottage Grove to 60th Street and then resume their regular routes.
 
Northbound #171 buses will operate over the regular route along 59th Street to Woodlawn then will travel via Woodlawn to 55th Street and then resume the regular route.
 
Northbound #172 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 

San Juan 8K Run & 2 Mile Fitness Walk Detours Two Routes on Sunday

From 7 a.m. until 11 a.m. Sunday, June 12, #52 Kedzie/California and #70 Division buses will be rerouted due to the closure of California Avenue between North Avenue and Division and Division Street between California and Kedzie for the annual San Juan 8K Run & 2 Mile Fitness Walk.
 
Northbound #52 buses will travel over the regular route along California to Division then will operate via Division, Western, North Avenue to California and then resume the regular route. Southbound #52 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Eastbound #70 buses will operate over the regular route along Division to Kedzie and then will travel via Kedzie, Augusta, California to Division and then resume the regular route. Westbound #70 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Construction Detours #20 Madison and #90 Harlem Buses Until December

From 3 a.m. Tuesday, June 14 until approximately 1 p.m. Friday, December 2, eastbound #20 Madison (Owl service) buses and #90 Harlem buses will be detoured due to the closure of North Boulevard and South Boulevard between Marion and Home due to construction.
 
Eastbound #20 (Owl service) buses will operate over the regular route along Harlem past North Boulevard to Washington then will travel via Washington, Maple, Randolph, Harlem to Lake and then will resume the regular route. Westbound #20 (Owl service) buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 
Southbound #90 buses will travel over the regular route along Harlem past North Boulevard to Washington then will operate via Washington, Maple, Randolph, Harlem to Harlem/South Boulevard before turning to begin northbound service. From Harlem/South Boulevard, northbound #90 buses will travel north on Harlem over the regular route.
 

UPDATE: Temporary Removal of #152 Addison Bus Stop at Addison/Springfield

The temporary removal of the eastbound and westbound near side stops at Addison/Springfield served by #152 Addison buses will remain in effect until Friday, June 17. These stops have been removed from service due to a sewer reconstruction project.
 

UPDATE: Temporary Relocation of #78 Montrose and #85 Central Bus Stops at Central/Montrose

The temporary changes that have been made to bus stops served by #78 Montrose and #85 Central buses due to sidewalk construction work will remain in effect until Friday, June 17:
 
#78 Montrose
  • Montrose/Central: the westbound far side stop has been relocated to a near side stop.
 
#85 Central
  • Central/Montrose: the southbound near side stop has been relocated to a far side stop.
 

Ongoing Bus Service Changes

Construction on South Side Detours Three CTA Bus Routes

Currently in effect through Monday, June 6, the #2 Hyde Park Express, #59 59th/61st and #170 U of Chicago/Midway bus routes are undergoing temporary detours from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. each day due to the closure of 60th Street between Dorchester and Blackstone for a water pipe installation project.
 
Southbound #2 buses are traveling over the regular route to Stony Island/Midway Plaisance and then are traveling via Midway Plaisance, Dorchester to 60th Street and continuing west on 60th Street over the regular route.
 
Westbound #59 buses are beginning their trips from Midway Plaisance and then are operating via Cornell, Midway Plaisance to Dorchester and then resuming the regular route.
 
Eastbound #170 buses are traveling over the regular route to 60th/Dorchester then are operating via Dorchester, Midway Plaisance to Stony Island and then resuming the regular route.
 

Temporary Relocation of #126 Jackson Bus Stop at Harrison/Paulina

Currently in effect until approximately 6 p.m. Friday, July 15, the westbound near side stop at Harrison/Paulina served by #126 Jackson buses has been relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction.
 

Repairs to Bridge Detour #111 Pullman/111th/115th Buses

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, September 30, #111 Pullman/111th/115th buses are being detoured from Cottage Grove between 98th Street and 100th Place due to bridge repair work.
 
Southbound #111 buses are traveling over the regular route along 95th Street to King Drive then operating via King Drive, 100th Street to Cottage Grove and resuming the regular route. Northbound #111 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 
#36 Broadway and #70 Division Buses Detoured on Saturdays for the Near North Farmer’s Market
From 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Saturday through October 29, #36 Broadway and #70 Division buses will be detoured due to the closure of Division Street between State and Clark for the Near North Farmer’s Market.
 
Southbound #36 buses will travel over the regular route along Clark past Division to Maple then will operate via Maple to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along State to Elm then will travel via Elm to Clark and then resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #70 buses will travel over the regular route along Division to Clark and then will operate via Clark, Maple to Dearborn and then resume the regular route. Westbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route. 
 

Lane Restrictions near State and Grand Detour #29 State and #36 Broadway Buses

Due to lane restrictions associated with the Grand/State Red Line rehabilitation project at the northwest corner of State and Grand, #29 State and #36 Broadway buses are being detoured to adjacent streets until further notice.
 
Southbound #29 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand past State to Clark then traveling via Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #29 buses are traveling along the remaining open lane along State and over the regular route.
 
Southbound #36 buses are traveling over the regular route along State to Ontario then are operating via Ontario, Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #36 buses are operating over the regular route along Dearborn past Illinois to Ohio then traveling via Ohio to State and resuming the regular route.
 

Changes in Service along #8 Halsted Route for Bridge Reconstruction Project

Currently in effect until late-December 2011, Halsted Street between Division and the north branch of the Chicago River is closed due to a bridge reconstruction project.
 
Northbound #8 Halsted buses are traveling over the regular route along Halsted past Chicago to North Branch then are operating via North Branch, Cherry, Division to Halsted and then resuming the regular route. Southbound #8 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 
Changes to Bus Stops
  • Halsted/North Branch: the northbound far side stop on Halsted has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop on North Branch at Halsted.
  • Halsted/Division: the southbound far side stop has been temporarily relocated to a near side stop.
 

Service Changes for 13 CTA Bus Routes due to Wacker Drive Construction

Until further notice, 13 CTA bus routes that operate on or near Wacker Drive have undergone service changes due to several downtown street closures as part of the Revive Wacker Drive reconstruction project. 
 
These street closures are affecting service on the #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick, #19 United Center Express, #20 Madison, #56 Milwaukee, #60 Blue Island/26th, #120 Ogilvie/Wacker Express, #121 Union/Wacker Express, #122 Illinois Center/Ogilvie Express, #123 Illinois Center/Union Express, #124 Navy Pier, #125 Water Tower Express, #129 West Loop/South Loop and the #157 Streeterville/Taylor.

Service Adjustments Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project

Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project, Franklin Street between Harrison and Van Buren and Lower Wacker Drive between Randolph and Harrison are closed until May 2012. As a result of these closures and other street reconfigurations, the following changes in bus service currently are in effect:
 
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
Northbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses are traveling over the regular route along Harrison to Canal then are operating via Canal, Jackson to Franklin and resuming the regular route. Southbound #11 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes also have been made to bus stops served by northbound #11 buses:
 
  • Canal/Harrison: a far side stop has been added to service.
  • Canal/Jackson: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Jackson at the Chicago River: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • 404 W. Harrison: the mid-block stop has been removed from service.
  • Franklin/Van Buren: the far side stop has been removed from service.
 
#121 Union/Wacker Express
Northbound #121 Union/Wacker Express buses are operating over the regular route along Jackson past Wacker to Franklin then are traveling via Franklin, Lake, Post Place to Lower Wacker and then resuming the regular route.
 
Southbound #121 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand to Wabash then traveling via Wabash, Wacker, Franklin to Adams and then resuming the regular route.
 
#135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express buses are traveling south on Wacker to Jackson then are traveling east on Jackson past Franklin and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #135 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #136 Sheridan/LaSalle buses are operating south on Wacker to Van Buren then are traveling via Van Buren, Canal to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #136 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#156 LaSalle (PM Service Only)
During the evening rush period only, northbound #156 LaSalle buses departing from Union Station are traveling west on Van Buren to Wacker then are operating via Wacker to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary bus stop change has been made and is in effect for northbound #156 buses during the evening rush period only: 
 
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
