Orange and Pink Lines – Loop Elevated Service

Orange and Pink Line Trains Rerouted in the Loop on Sunday

Northbound (to the Loop) Orange Line and eastbound (to the Loop) Pink Line trains will be rerouted to operate on the outer elevated tracks – the same side served by Brown Line trains. The reroutes will be in effect beginning at the start of service until approximately 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 31, while crews perform structure renewal work.
 
Orange Line trains from Midway will be rerouted from the inner track to the outer Loop track, and travel counterclockwise. Entering the Loop, Orange Line trains will make their first stop at Adams/Wabash followed by Madison/Wabash, Randolph/Wabash, State/Lake, Clark/Lake, Washington/Wells, Quincy/Wells, LaSalle/Van Buren and Harold Washington Library/Van Buren, then proceed to Roosevelt and resume the normal route.
 
Pink Line trains will enter the Loop from Clinton and be rerouted to the outer Loop track. Entering the Loop from Clinton, Pink Line trains will make their first stop at Washington/Wells, then Quincy/Wells, LaSalle/Van Buren and Harold Washington Library/Van Buren, where they will turn and resume normal westbound service on the inner Loop track with the first stop at Harold Washington Library/Van Buren.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the route of each train.
 

Blue Line – Events Affecting Service

Late Night Trains to Operate on the Same Tracks at the Logan Square Station

All late night Blue Line trains will be routed to operate on the southbound (to Forest Park) tracks between the California and Belmont stations from 10 p.m. Friday, July 29 until 6 a.m. the following morning and then again from 10 p.m. Saturday, July 30 until 6 a.m. the following morning, due to tunnel repair work.
 
During these times, northbound (to O’Hare) Blue Line customers at the Logan Square station must board and exit trains from the southbound (to Forest Park) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Late Night Boarding Changes in Dearborn Subway Next Week

All late night Blue Line trains will be routed to operate on the southbound (to Forest Park) tracks between in the Dearborn subway from 10 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Monday night, August 1 through Friday morning, August 5, due to subway cleaning work.
 
Northbound (to O’Hare) Blue Line customers at the Jackson, Monroe, Washington and Lake stations must board and exit trains from the southbound (to Forest Park) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Green Line – Events Affecting Service

Late Night Two-Phase Single Track Operation in Effect on Harlem/Lake Branch

A two-phase single track operation will be in effect for all late night Green Line trains operating between the Cicero and Harlem stations beginning Sunday night, July 31, due to track maintenance work.
 
Phase I – at Austin, Ridgeland and Oak Park
From 9 p.m. until midnight Sunday, July 31, Green Line customers at the Austin, Ridgeland and Oak Park stations traveling westbound (to Harlem) must board and exit trains from the eastbound (to the Loop) side of the platform.
 
Phase II – at Laramie, Central, Austin, Ridgeland and Oak Park
From 12:01 a.m. until approximately 2 a.m. (or end of service) Monday, August 1, westbound (to Harlem) Green Line customers at the Laramie station must board and exit trains from the eastbound (to the Loop) platform.
 
Westbound (to Harlem) customers at the Central, Austin, Ridgeland and Oak Park stations must board and exit trains from the eastbound (to the Loop) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Late Night Boarding Changes at Austin, Ridgeland and Oak Park Next Week

All late night Green Line trains will be routed to operate on the eastbound (to the Loop) tracks between the Central and Harlem stations from 9 p.m. until approximately 2 a.m. (or end of service) beginning Monday night, August 1 through Friday morning, August 5, due to track maintenance work.
 
Westbound (to Harlem) customers at the Austin, Ridgeland and Oak Park stations must board and exit trains from the eastbound (to the Loop) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. Operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Red Line – Events Affecting Service

Late Night Trains Operating on Same Tracks at the 69th Street Station Next Week

All late night Red Line trains will be routed to operate on the northbound (to Howard) tracks at the 69th Street station from 10:30 p.m. each night until 4:30 a.m. the following morning beginning Tuesday, August 2 through Friday morning, August 5, due to track maintenance work.
 
Southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) customers at the 69th Street station must board and exit trains from the northbound (to Howard) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Service for Upcoming Events

CTA Provides Service for McCartney Concert at Wrigley Field

The CTA offers a variety of convenient and affordable options for those heading to Wrigley Field for Paul McCartney concerts on Sunday, July 31 and Monday, August 1 at 8 p.m.
 
CTA will operate longer trains and more frequent service on both nights until approximately midnight. The Red Line provides direct service to Wrigley Field via the accessible station at Addison, which is just a short walk from the ballpark. Fans can transfer to Red Line trains from all other rail lines and from most east-west bus routes.
 
Several CTA bus routes also provide convenient service directly to Wrigley Field.

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

Annual Fiesta del Sol Festival Detours Two Routes

Currently in effect until approximately noon on Monday, August 1, #21 Cermak and #60 Blue Island/26th buses are being detoured due to the closure of Cermak Road between Morgan and Loomis for the annual Fiesta del Sol Festival.
 
Eastbound #21 buses are traveling over the regular route along Cermak to Ashland then are operating via Ashland, 18th Street, Halsted to Cermak and then resuming the regular route. Westbound #21 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 
Eastbound #60 buses are operating over the regular route along Blue Island to Ashland then are traveling via Ashland, 18th Street to Blue Island and then resuming the regular route. Westbound #60 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Relocation of Bus Stop at Damen/66th Street

Currently in effect, the southbound near side stop at Damen/66th Street served by #48 South Damen buses has been relocated to a far side stop.

 

Temporary Relocation of Bus Stop at 79th Street/Cottage Grove

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, August 12, the westbound near side stop at 79th Street/Cottage Grove served by #79 79th buses will be temporarily relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction.
 

Milwaukee Avenue Arts Festival Detours #56 Milwaukee Buses This Weekend

Currently in effect until approximately 5 a.m. Monday, August 1, #56 Milwaukee buses are being detoured due to the closure of Milwaukee Avenue between Logan/Troy and Kedzie for the Milwaukee Avenue Arts Festival.
 
Southbound #56 buses are traveling over the regular route along Milwaukee to Kedzie then are operating southeast on Kedzie via the inner circle drive (around the statue) to Milwaukee and then resuming the regular route.
 
Northbound #56 buses are traveling over the regular route along Milwaukee to Kedzie/Logan then are operating northwest on Kedzie/Logan via the inner circle drive (around the statue) to Milwaukee and then resuming the regular route.
 

Four Routes Detoured on Saturday for the South Shore Multi-sport Event

From 5 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Saturday, July 30, #6 Jackson Park Express, #14 Jeffery Express, #63 63rd and #67 67th/69th/71st buses will be detoured due to the closure of the northbound lanes of South Shore Drive between 71st and 67th streets and the northbound lanes of Lake Shore Drive between 67th and 31st streets for the South Shore Multi-sport Event.
 
Northbound #6 buses will travel over the regular route along South Shore past 71st Street to Jeffery then will operate via Jeffery to 67th Street and resume the regular route until they reach Lake Park/47th Street then will be rerouted again and travel via 47th Street, King Drive, 31st Street to Lake Shore Drive and then resume the regular route. Southbound #6 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 
Northbound #14 buses will operate over the regular route along Jeffery to 67th Street then will travel via 67th Street, King Drive, 31st Street to Lake Shore Drive and then resume the regular route. Southbound #14 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 
Eastbound #63 buses operating to the 63rd Street Beach will only be able to travel to 63rd Street/Stony Island before turning to begin westbound service. From 64th Street/Stony Island westbound #63 buses will travel over the regular route.
 
Eastbound #67 buses will travel over the regular route along 67th Street past Jeffery to the terminal at 67th Street/South Shore before beginning westbound service. Westbound #67 buses will travel over the regular route.
 

Viaduct Repair Work to Detour #51 51st Buses This Weekend

From 6 a.m. Saturday, July 30 until approximately 8 p.m. Sunday, July 31, #51 51st buses will be detoured due to work on the viaduct in the 500 block of West 51st Street – east of Lowe Street.
 
Eastbound #51 buses will travel over the regular route along 51st Street to Halsted then will operate via Halsted, 47th Street, Wells, 51st Street, Wentworth to 47th Street before beginning westbound service. From 47th Street/Halsted, westbound #51 buses will travel over the regular route.
 

Eastbound #124 Navy Pier Buses Rerouted on Saturday for Filming

From 7 a.m. until 10 p.m. Saturday, July 30, eastbound #124 Navy Pier buses will be rerouted due to the closure of Wacker Place between Wabash and Michigan for filming of the TV series “Powers.”
 
Eastbound #124 buses will operate over the regular route along Wacker Drive past Wacker Place to Michigan then will travel via Michigan to South Water and then resume the regular route. Westbound #124 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 

Three Downtown Routes on Detoured Saturday Night and Early Sunday Morning

From 6 p.m. Saturday, July 30 until 6 a.m. the following morning, #14 Jeffery Express, #20 Madison and #56 Milwaukee buses will be detoured due to the closure of Madison Street between Michigan and Wabash due to the filming at the Playboy Club.
 
Northbound #14 buses will travel over the regular route along Michigan to Adams then will operate via Adams, State to Madison and then resume the regular route. Southbound #14 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 
Eastbound #20 and southbound #56 buses will operate over their regular routes along Washington to State then will travel via State to Madison before beginning westbound service. From Dearborn/Madison, westbound #20 and northbound #56 buses will travel west on Madison over their regular routes.

 

Newberry Library Bughouse Square Debates Detour Two Routes on Saturday

From 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, July 30, #22 Clark and #70 Division buses will be detoured due to the closure of Walton Street between Dearborn and Clark and Dearborn Street between Walton and Oak for the Newberry Library Bughouse Square Debates.
 
Northbound #22 buses will operate over the regular route along Dearborn to Chicago then will travel via Chicago, State, Elm to Clark and then resume the regular route. Southbound #22 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 
Eastbound #70 buses will operate over the regular route along Division to Clark then will travel via Clark, Maple to Dearborn before beginning westbound service. From Dearborn/Maple, westbound #70 buses will travel via Dearborn, Elm, Clark to Division and then resume the regular route.
 

Railroad Crossing Repair Work Detours #59 59th/61st Buses Next Week

From 9 a.m. Monday, August 1 until approximately 4 p.m. Sunday, August 7, #59 59th/61st buses will be detoured due to railroad crossing repairs in the 4600 block of W. 59th Street – west of Kolmar Avenue.
 
Westbound #59 buses will travel over the regular route along 59th Street to Pulaski then will operate via Pulaski, 63rd Street, Cicero to 59th Street and into the Midway Orange Line terminal. Eastbound #59 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Routing Changes to Southbound #125 Water Tower Express Buses

Effective at the start of service on Tuesday, August 2, the following routing changes will be made affecting southbound service along the #125 Water Tower Express route.
 
Southbound #125 buses will travel over the regular route along Wacker to Lake then will operate via Lake, Clinton past Randolph and continue south on Clinton over the regular route.
 
As a result of this change in routing, the following bus stop changes also will go into effect:
 
  • Wacker/Randolph: the southbound near side stop will be removed from service.
  • Clinton/Randolph: southbound #125 buses will begin serving the new stop.
 

Chicago Fire Department Back to School Rally Detours #94 South California Buses

From 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, August 4, #94 South California buses will be detoured due to the closure of California Avenue at Fillmore Street for the Chicago Fire Department Back to School Rally.
 
Northbound #94 buses will operate over the regular route along California to Roosevelt then will travel via Roosevelt, Sacramento, Taylor to California and then resume the regular route. Southbound #94 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Ongoing Bus Service Changes

Sewer Construction Project at 63rd Street/Damen Detours Two Bus Routes

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, August 5, southbound #48 South Damen and westbound #63 63rd buses are being detoured due to the closure of the intersection at 63rd Street/Damen for a sewer construction project.
 
Southbound #48 buses are operating over the regular route along 59th Street to Damen then are traveling via Damen, Ashland, 67th Street to Damen and then resuming the regular route. Northbound #48 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 
Westbound #63 buses are traveling over the regular route along 63rd Street to Ashland then are operating via Ashland, 67th Street, Western to 63rd Street and then resuming the regular route. Eastbound #63 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 

Temporary Relocation of Bus Stop at Clark/Adams

Currently in effect until approximately 5 a.m. Monday, August 8, the southbound far side stop at Clark/Adams has been relocated to a near side stop at Jackson/Clark due to ADA ramp work on Clark at Adams. This stop is served by #22 Clark, #24 Wentworth and #129 West Loop/South Loop (PM Rush service only) buses.
 

Water Department Project on Madison Detours Two Westbound Bus Routes

Currently in effect until approximately 6 a.m. Monday, September 12, westbound #19 United Center Express and #20 Madison buses are being routed due to a Water Department project on Madison between LaSalle and Franklin that is expected to result in heavy traffic congestion.
 
Westbound #19 and #20 buses will instead travel along Madison to LaSalle then will operate via LaSalle, Randolph, Clinton to Madison and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #19 and #20 buses are not affected and will travel over their regular routes.
 
(NOTE: this reroute supersedes the reroute previously in place for westbound #19 and #20 buses as part of the Stage II Wacker Drive detours)
 

Repairs to Bridge Detour #111 Pullman/111th/115th Buses

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, September 30, #111 Pullman/111th/115th buses are being detoured from Cottage Grove between 98th Street and 100th Place due to bridge repair work.
 
Southbound #111 buses are traveling over the regular route along 95th Street to King Drive then operating via King Drive, 100th Street to Cottage Grove and resuming the regular route. Northbound #111 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Near North Farmer’s Market Detours #36 Broadway and #70 Division Buses

From 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Saturday through October 29, #36 Broadway and #70 Division buses will be detoured due to the closure of Division Street between State and Clark for the Near North Farmer’s Market.
 
Southbound #36 buses will travel over the regular route along Clark past Division to Maple then will operate via Maple to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along State to Elm then will travel via Elm to Clark and then resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #70 buses will travel over the regular route along Division to Clark and then will operate via Clark, Maple to Dearborn and then resume the regular route. Westbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route. 
 

Construction Detours #20 Madison and #90 Harlem Buses Until December

Currently in effect until Friday, December 2, eastbound #20 Madison (Owl service) buses and #90 Harlem buses are being detoured due to the closure of North Boulevard and South Boulevard between Marion and Home for a construction project.
 
Eastbound #20 (Owl service) buses are operating over the regular route along Harlem past North Boulevard to Washington then are traveling via Washington, Maple, Randolph, Harlem to Lake and resuming the regular route. Westbound #20 (Owl service) buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 
Southbound #90 buses are traveling over the regular route along Harlem past North Boulevard to Washington then are operating via Washington, Maple, Randolph, Harlem to Harlem/South Boulevard before beginning northbound service. From Harlem/South Boulevard, northbound #90 buses are traveling north on Harlem over the regular route.
 

Lane Restrictions near State and Grand Detour #29 State and #36 Broadway Buses

Due to lane restrictions associated with the Grand Red Line rehabilitation project at the northwest corner of State and Grand, #29 State and #36 Broadway buses are being detoured to adjacent streets until further notice.
 
Southbound #29 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand past State to Clark then traveling via Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #29 buses are traveling along the remaining open lane along State and over the regular route.
 
Southbound #36 buses are traveling over the regular route along State to Ontario then are operating via Ontario, Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #36 buses are operating over the regular route along Dearborn past Illinois to Ohio then traveling via Ohio to State and resuming the regular route.
 

Changes in Service along #8 Halsted Route for Bridge Reconstruction Project

Currently in effect until late-December 2011, Halsted Street between Division and the north branch of the Chicago River is closed due to a bridge reconstruction project.
 
Northbound #8 Halsted buses are traveling over the regular route along Halsted past Chicago to North Branch then are operating via North Branch, Cherry, Division to Halsted and then resuming the regular route. Southbound #8 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 
Changes to Bus Stops
  • Halsted/North Branch: the northbound far side stop on Halsted has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop on North Branch at Halsted.
  • Halsted/Division: the southbound far side stop has been temporarily relocated to a near side stop.
 

Service Changes to 14 Downtown Bus Routes for Stage II of Wacker Drive Project

Currently in effect, changes in service have been made to 14 CTA bus routes that operate in the downtown area near Wacker Drive and Madison due to work associated with Stage II of the Wacker Drive construction project.
 
Construction on Wacker Drive will result in changes along the following routes: 
 
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick (bus stops only)
#121 Union/Wacker Express
#14 Jeffery Express
#122 Illinois Center/Ogilvie Express
#19 United Center Express
#123 Illinois Center/Union Express
#20 Madison
#124 Navy Pier
#56 Milwaukee
#125 Water Tower Express
#60 Blue Island/26th
#129 West Loop/South Loop
#120 Ogilvie/Wacker Express
#157 Streeterville/Taylor

Service Adjustments Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project

Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project, Franklin Street between Harrison and Van Buren and Lower Wacker Drive between Randolph and Harrison are closed until May 2012. As a result of these closures and other street reconfigurations, the following changes in bus service currently are in effect:
 
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
Northbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses are traveling over the regular route along Harrison to Canal then are operating via Canal, Jackson to Franklin and resuming the regular route. Southbound #11 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes also have been made to bus stops served by northbound #11 buses:
 
  • Canal/Harrison: a far side stop has been added to service.
  • Canal/Jackson: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Jackson at the Chicago River: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • 404 W. Harrison: the mid-block stop has been removed from service.
  • Franklin/Van Buren: the far side stop has been removed from service.
 
#121 Union/Wacker Express
Northbound #121 Union/Wacker Express buses are operating over the regular route along Jackson past Wacker to Franklin then are traveling via Franklin, Lake, Post Place to Lower Wacker and then resuming the regular route.
 
Southbound #121 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand to Wabash then traveling via Wabash, Wacker, Franklin to Adams and then resuming the regular route.
 
#135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express buses are traveling south on Wacker to Jackson then are traveling east on Jackson past Franklin and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #135 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #136 Sheridan/LaSalle buses are operating south on Wacker to Van Buren then are traveling via Van Buren, Canal to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #136 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#156 LaSalle (PM Service Only)
During the evening rush period only, northbound #156 LaSalle buses departing from Union Station are traveling west on Van Buren to Wacker then are operating via Wacker to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary bus stop change has been made and is in effect for northbound #156 buses during the evening rush period only: 
 
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 

Relocation of #36 Broadway Bus Stop Due to Nearby Construction

Currently in effect until Friday, July 12, 2013, the southbound near side stop at Broadway/Elmdale served by #36 Broadway buses has been relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction.
