Blue Line – Slow Zone Work
No Construction Work in Dearborn Subway this Weekend
CTA’s Blue Line will operate over its normal route through the Dearborn Subway this weekend as no construction work is scheduled in the subway.
Construction work in the Dearborn Subway is scheduled to resume next weekend.
Work in the subway has occurred on previous weekend as crews work to replace deteriorated wooden half ties with concrete half ties, and replace running rail and contact (third) rail to remove existing slow zones and help prevent the creation of new slow zones.
Red Line – Slow Zone Work
Daytime Reroute of Red Line Trains at Sheridan Next Week
A daytime reroute will be in effect for Red Line trains operating in both directions at the Sheridan station from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. each day beginning Tuesday, July 28 through Friday, July 31, while crews replace deteriorated rail ties, tie plates and spikes.
During these times, northbound and southbound Red Line trains will operate on the Purple Express tracks. Customers at the Sheridan station must board and exit trains from the outer platforms instead of the inner platforms.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
Blue Line – Other Events Affecting Service
Forest Park Branch: Single Track in Effect between the Western and Kedzie-Homan Stations
Westbound Blue Line trains will operate on a single track between the Western and Kedzie-Homan stations on the Forest Park branch this weekend from 10 p.m. Friday, July 24 until 11:59 p.m. Sunday, July 26, due to track maintenance work.
Westbound Blue Line customers at the Western station must board and exit trains from the eastbound side of the platform.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
Brown Line – Other Events Affecting Service
Wellington Brown Line Station to Reopen Thursday
The CTA’s Brown Line Wellington station will reopen to customers and resume rail service Thursday, July 30, following a 16-month temporary closure for construction as part of the line’s capacity expansion project.
A new stationhouse was built in the same location as the previous one at 945 W. Wellington Avenue and a new auxiliary exit has been built just north of the station on Nelson Street for added customer convenience and passage.
With the addition of two elevators, the Wellington station now is accessible to customers with disabilities. With this station reopening, 89 of CTA’s 144 rail stations are accessible.
Additional Service for Special Events
Bus and Rail Service for Venetian Night
CTA will provide extra bus and rail service on Saturday evening, July 25, to accommodate customers heading to the 52nd Annual Venetian Night festivities.
The evening's activities begin at 6 p.m. leading up to the Venetian Night parade of boats at 8:15 p.m. The fireworks display will follow at 9 p.m.
New/Updated Changes in Bus Service
Reconstruction of LaSalle Street Bridge Detours Northbound #24 Wentworth Buses
Currently in effect, LaSalle Street between 28th and 26th streets will be closed to all traffic until early-January 2010, due to the reconstruction of the LaSalle Street Bridge.
Northbound #24 Wentworth buses will operate over the regular route along LaSalle to 31st Street then will travel via 31st Street, State, 26th Street to Wentworth and then resume the regular route. Southbound #24 buses will travel over the regular route.
Changes to #24 Wentworth Bus Stops
Due to the reconstruction of the LaSalle Street Bridge, the following changes will be made to bus stop served by #24 Wentworth buses:
LaSalle/31st Street: the northbound far side stop will be relocated to a near side stop.
Wentworth/26th Street: the northbound near side stop will be relocated to a westbound near side stop at 26th Street/Wentworth.
Daytime Reroute of #57 Laramie Buses through Tuesday
Due to the installation of handrails along the Union Pacific Railroad viaduct, Laramie Street will be closed between Fulton and Lake from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on weekdays until Tuesday, July 28. On Saturday, July 25 and Sunday, July 26 this portion of Laramie also will be closed from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m.
During these times, northbound #57 Laramie buses will travel over the regular route along Laramie to Washington then will operate via Washington, Cicero, Chicago to Laramie and then resume the regular route. Southbound #57 buses will travel the reverse route.
Viaduct Work Reroutes #63 63rd Street Buses through Monday
Currently in effect until 6 a.m. Monday, July 27, 63rd Street will be closed between Hamilton and Bell due to viaduct maintenance work.
Westbound #63 63rd Street buses will operate over the regular route along 63rd Street to Damen then will travel via Damen, 67th Street, Western, then return to 63rd Street and resume the regular route. Eastbound buses will travel the reverse route.
#56 Milwaukee Buses Temporarily Rerouted for the Wicker Park Fest
Milwaukee Avenue between North Avenue and Wood Street will be closed from 3 a.m. Saturday, July 25 until 3 a.m. Monday, July 27 for the Wicker Park Fest.
Southbound #56 Milwaukee buses will travel over the regular route along Milwaukee to Damen then will operate via Damen, Division to Milwaukee and then resume the regular route. Northbound #56 buses will travel the reverse route.
Say No to Drugs Parade Detours Four Routes Saturday Morning
On Saturday, July 25, the Say No to Drugs Parade will step-off at approximately 9 a.m. from Chicago/Lavergne and will proceed along Chicago, Central, Augusta, Cicero to Chicago and disband at the originating location.
Southbound #54 Cicero buses will operate over the regular route along Cicero to Augusta then will travel via Augusta, Kilpatrick, Chicago to Cicero and then resume the regular route. Northbound #54 buses will travel over the regular route.
Southbound #57 Laramie buses will travel over the regular route along Laramie to Division then will operate via Division, Cicero, Augusta, Kilpatrick, Chicago, Cicero, Washington to Laramie and then resume the regular route.
Northbound #57 buses will operate over the regular route along Laramie to Washington then will travel via Washington, Cicero, Division to Laramie and then resume the regular route.
Westbound #66 Chicago buses will travel over the regular route along Chicago to Cicero then will operate via Cicero, Division, Central to Chicago and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #66 buses will travel over the regular route.
Northbound #85 Central buses will operate over the regular route along Central to Chicago then will travel via Chicago, Austin, Augusta to Central and then resume the regular route. Southbound #85 buses will travel the reverse route.
Disability Pride Parade Detours 12 CTA Bus Routes Saturday Morning
Dearborn Street between Van Buren and Washington, and Van Buren Street between Financial Place and Dearborn will be closed from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 25 for the Disability Pride Parade. To maintain service during this time, the following 12 CTA bus routes will be detoured to adjacent streets:

Celebrate Clark Street Festival Detours #22 Buses on Sunday
On Sunday, July 26 from 12:01 a.m. until 11:59 p.m., Clark Street will be closed between Pratt and Touhy for the Celebrate Clark Street Festival.
Northbound #22 Clark buses will travel over the regular route along Clark to Pratt then will operate via Pratt, Ashland, Touhy to Clark and then resume the regular route. Southbound #22 buses will travel the reverse route.
Criterium Race Detours Seven CTA Routes on Sunday
Due to the Criterium Race, the following streets will be closed from 4 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 26: Balbo between Michigan and Lake Shore Drive; Jackson between Michigan and Lake Shore Drive; Columbus between Roosevelt and Monroe; Congress Plaza and the northbound lanes of Michigan between Balbo and Jackson.
During this time, seven CTA bus routes will be detoured to adjacent streets.
Northbound #3 King Drive and #4 Cottage Grove buses will operate over the regular route along Michigan to Roosevelt then will travel via Roosevelt, State, Monroe to Michigan and then resume their regular routes. Southbound #3 and #4 buses will travel over their regular routes.
Northbound #6 Jackson Park Express and #14 Jeffery Express buses will travel over their regular routes along Columbus to Roosevelt then will operate via Roosevelt, State, Monroe to Michigan and then resume their regular routes.
Southbound #6 and #14 buses will operate over their regular routes along Balbo to Michigan then will travel via Michigan, Roosevelt to Columbus and then resume their regular routes.
Northbound #10 Museum of Science & Industry buses will travel over the regular route along Columbus to Roosevelt then will operate via Roosevelt, State to Balbo and then resume the regular route.
Southbound #10 buses will operate over the regular route along Balbo to Michigan then will travel via Michigan, Roosevelt to Columbus and then resume the regular route.
Eastbound #126 buses will operate to Harrison/Michigan. Westbound #126 Jackson buses will begin service from Harrison/Wabash and then will operate via Harrison, State to Adams and then resume the regular route.
Southbound #147 Outer Drive Express buses will travel to Michigan/Harrison. Northbound #147 buses will begin service from Harrison/State and then will travel via State to Congress and then resume the regular route.
Restoration of #56 Milwaukee Bus Stop
Effective at the start of service on Monday, July 27, the southbound near side stop at Desplaines/Lake served by #56 Milwaukee buses will be returned to service. This bus stop was temporarily removed from service due to sidewalk construction work.
Temporary Relocation of #8 Halsted Bus Stop
Effective at the start of service on Monday, July 27, the southbound far side stop at Halsted/North Branch served by #8 Halsted buses will be temporarily relocated to a near side stop until Thursday, October 1. This bus stop is being relocated due to a traffic signal installation project.
Sewer Construction Detours #75 75th Buses until Early September
Due to sewer construction work, 75th Street between King Drive and Indiana Avenue will be closed to all traffic from 9 a.m. Monday, July 27 until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, September 4.
Eastbound #75 75th buses will operate over the regular route along 75th Street to Indiana then will travel via Indiana, 76th Street, King Drive to 75th Street and then resume the regular route.
Westbound #75 buses will travel via 75th Street to King Drive then will operate via King Drive, 76th Street, Michigan to 75th Street and then resume the regular route.
UPDATE: Buses Detoured Until August Due to Division Street Bridge Repairs
The westbound lanes of the Division Street Bridge between Branch Street and Elston Avenue will be closed to all traffic until Friday, August 7, due to repair work.
Westbound #70 Division buses will operate over the regular route along Division to Larrabee then will travel via Larrabee to Chicago, Milwaukee, Elston to Division and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #70 buses will travel the regular route.
Southbound #132 Goose Island Express buses will travel over the regular route along Halsted past Division to North Branch then will operate via North Branch, Cherry to Division and then resume the regular route. Northbound #132 buses will travel over the regular route.
Ongoing Bus Reroutes
Construction Temporarily Detours #86 Narragansett/Ridgeland Buses
Due to construction work at the northeast corner of South Boulevard and Ridgeland, southbound #86 Narragansett/Ridgeland buses are temporarily detoured on weekdays only between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. until further notice.
Southbound #86 buses will operate over the regular route along Lake Street past Lombard to Austin then will travel via Austin, Washington, Ridgeland to the intersection of Ridgeland/South Boulevard and will make a near side service stop before beginning northbound service. Northbound #86 buses will continue north on Ridgeland over the regular route.
#75 74th/75th Bus Stop Changes
Due to sewer construction work, the eastbound and westbound bus stops at 75th Street/Indiana, served by #75 74th/75th buses, temporarily will be removed from service until further notice.
Eastbound customers can board and exit #75 buses from the near side stops at 75th Street/Prairie or 75th Street/Michigan.
Westbound customers can board and exit #75 buses from the near side stops at 75th Street/Michigan or 75th Street/Prairie.
#60 Blue Island/26th Buses Rerouted Due to Construction
Until further notice, #60 Blue Island/26th buses operating in both directions will be rerouted due to the closure of Laflin Street between Cermak and 21st Street and the closure of Loomis Street between Cermak and 18th Street. The street closures are due to construction work at the Benito Juarez School campus.
Eastbound #60 Blue Island buses will operate over the regular route along Blue Island to Ashland then will travel via Ashland, 18th Street to Loomis/Blue Island and then resume the regular route along Blue Island. Westbound #60 buses will travel over the regular route along Blue Island past Laflin to 21st Street then will operate via 21st Street, Ashland to Cermak/Blue Island and then resume the regular route along Blue Island.
Sewer Repair Work Reroutes #95E 93rd/95th and #N5 South Shore Night Buses
Due to sewer construction work, 93rd Street between Muskegon and Escanaba/Anthony/Exchange will be closed to all traffic until late-July.
Eastbound #95E 93rd/95th and northbound #N5 South Shore Night buses will travel over their regular routes along 93rd Street to Colfax then will operate via Colfax, 95th Street, Escanaba to 93rd Street/Anthony/Exchange and then will travel northeast on Exchange over their regular routes. Westbound #95E and southbound #N5 buses will travel the reverse route.
Sewer Repairs Detour #44 Wallace/Racine Buses until Late August
Racine Avenue between 73rd and 72nd streets will be closed to all traffic until Friday, August 21, due to sewer repair work.
Northbound #44 Wallace/Racine buses will travel over the regular route along Racine to 74th Street then will operate via 74th Street, Loomis, 71st Street to Racine and then resume the regular route. Southbound #44 buses will travel the reverse route.
Changes to #29 State Bus Stops until Late August
Due to construction work on a nearby water main, the northbound near side and the southbound far side stops at State/Pershing will be removed from service until Friday, August 21.
Customers can board and alight northbound and southbound #29 buses from either State/38th Street or State/40th Street.
Temporary Removal of Bus Stop along the #81 Lawrence Route
Until Friday, August 21, the eastbound far side stop at Lawrence/Oakley, served by #81 Lawrence buses, temporarily will be removed from service due to construction work. Customers can board and exit at the eastbound near side stops at Lawrence/Western or Lawrence/Leavitt.
Buses Rerouted on Saturdays for the Near North Farmer’s Market
From 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Saturday through October 31, Division Street between State and Clark will be closed for the Near North Farmer’s Market.
Southbound #36 Broadway buses will travel over the regular route along Clark past Division to Maple then will operate via Maple to State and then resume the regular route.
Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along State to Elm then will travel via Elm to Clark and then resume the regular route.
Eastbound #70 Division buses will travel over the regular route along Division to Clark and then will operate via Clark, Maple to Dearborn and then resume the regular route. Westbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
Buses Rerouted Due to Construction on Milwaukee Avenue
Eastbound #81W West Lawrence and northbound #91 Austin buses will be rerouted until Monday, November 30, due to construction on Milwaukee Avenue between Gale and Montrose.
Eastbound #81W West Lawrence and northbound #91 Austin buses will travel over their regular routes to Lawrence/Milwaukee to a far side stop then will continue eastbound on Lawrence to Lipps, heading north on Lipps to enter the Jefferson Park bus terminal.
Westbound #81W and southbound #91 buses are not affected and will travel along their regular routes.
Lane Restrictions near State and Grand Detour #29 State and #65 Grand Buses
Due to lane restrictions associated with the Grand/State Red Line rehabilitation project at the northwest corner of State Street and Grand Avenue, #29 State and #36 Broadway buses will be detoured to adjacent streets. These changes in service are expected to remain in place until April 2010.
Southbound #29 State buses will operate over the regular route along Grand past State to Clark then will travel via Clark, Illinois to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #29 buses will be able to travel on the remaining open lane along State and will operate over its regular route.
Southbound #36 Broadway buses will travel over the regular route along State to Ontario then will operate via Ontario, Clark, Illinois to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along Dearborn past Illinois to Ohio then will travel via Ohio to State and then resume the regular route.
14 CTA Bus Routes Affected Due to Jackson Viaduct Work
