Events Affecting CTA Service Beginning the Weekend of July 21 - 23

Clark Junction Track and Signal Renewal:
CTA is currently working to upgrade crossover tracks and signals throughout the Clark Junction corridor, the busy location where Brown, Red and Purple Line trains converge just north of Belmont on the City's North Side. The upgrade to the 100-year-old junction will bring new signals and additional connections between tracks to allow trains to cross over to adjacent tracks.

Brown Line Customers Should Allow Extra Travel Time This Weekend
Construction work planned for this weekend will require reroutes of southbound Brown Line trains. This could cause delays in service so customers are advised to allow extra travel time. Several major construction projects are currently underway on the rail system and CTA is working to minimize the impact on customers while coordinating efforts to accommodate multiple construction crews.

Brown Line Service ? 1 a.m. Saturday, July 22 to 4 a.m. Monday, July 24
Brown Line trains will operate on southbound Red Line tracks at Belmont station. At Belmont station, Brown Line customers will board and exit Brown Line shuttle trains and southbound Brown Line trains to the Loop on the east (Red Line) side of the platform instead of the west (Brown Line) side of the platform. Customers should allow extra travel time.

Customers continuing southbound on Red Line trains will board at Belmont at the normal location on the east side of the platform. (See separate release.)

Northbound Brown and Red Line service will not be affected. Normal Brown Line service will resume at 4 a.m. Monday, July 24.

Red Line - Dan Ryan Branch Rehabilitation:
CTA is working to replace track, power and signal systems and upgrade stations along the branch. When the work is completed, customers will experience more reliable service and modern station amenities.

Late Night Single Tracks in Effect on Red Line Over Weekend
A single track will be in effect between 63rd and 79th from 11 p.m. Friday, July 21 until 8 a.m. Saturday, July 22 and again in the same location from 11 p.m. Saturday night until noon Sunday, July 23. North and southbound customers boarding at the 63rd and 69th stations must board on the east side of the platform. Customers should allow extra travel time.

Single Tracks in Effect on Red Line Beginning Sunday
A single track will be in effect between Garfield and 63rd from 9 p.m. Sunday, July 23 until 4 a.m. Monday, July 24 and again in the same location Monday night from 11 p.m. until 4 a.m. Tuesday, July 25 and during the same hours Tuesday night.

During the Sunday and Monday night single tracks, north and southbound customers boarding at Garfield must board on the west side of the platform.

During the Tuesday night single track, north and southbound customers boarding at Garfield must board on the east side of the platform.

Late Night Single Tracks in Effect on Red Line Next Week
A single track will be in effect between 63rd and 69th from 11 p.m. Wednesday, July 26 until 4 a.m. Thursday, July 27 and again in the same location, during the same hours Thursday night. North and southbound customers boarding at 63rd must board on the west side of the platform.

Blue Line Signal Upgrade:
CTA is working to upgrade approximately 20 miles of the existing 40-year-old train control system and power supply equipment from the Forest Park terminal of the Blue Line Forest Park branch through the Dearborn subway to the Jefferson Park station of the Blue Line O'Hare branch.

These systems ensure the safe operation and movement of trains, and the appropriate speed and distance between trains as well as help CTA personnel manage rail service in the event of an emergency.

The upgraded signal system will result in improved reliability of service for Blue Line customers, and also includes upgrades to the power cables and communication system needed to connect the Red Line State Street subway and Blue Line Dearborn Street subway as part of the Block 37 project.

Late Night Single Tracks in Effect on Blue Line Forest Park Branch Friday and Saturday
A three-phase single track will be in effect between the Harlem and Cicero stations Friday, July 21 and Saturday, July 22.

From 11 p.m. Friday until 2 a.m. Saturday, the single track will be in effect between the Harlem and Austin stations. North and southbound customers boarding at the Oak Park station must board on the south side of the platform.

From 2 a.m. until 6 a.m. Saturday, the single track will be in effect between the Harlem and Cicero stations. North and southbound customers boarding at the Oak Park and Austin stations must board on the south side of the platform.

From 6 a.m. until 10 a.m. Saturday, the single track will be in effect between the Harlem and Austin stations. North and southbound customers boarding at the Oak Park station must board on the south side of the platform.

Customers should allow extra travel time.

Late Night Single Tracks in Effect on Blue Line O'Hare Branch Saturday and Sunday
A three-phase single track will be in effect between the Addison and California stations Saturday, July 22 and Sunday, July 23.

From 11 p.m. Saturday until 2 a.m. Sunday, the single track will be in effect between the Addison and Belmont stations. North and southbound customers boarding at the Addison and Belmont stations must board on the west side of the platform.

From 2 a.m. until 6 a.m. Sunday, the single track will be in effect between the Addison and California stations. North and southbound customers boarding at the Addison, Belmont and Logan Square stations must board on the west side of the platform.

From 6 a.m. until 10 a.m. Sunday, the single track will be in effect between the Addison and Belmont stations. North and southbound customers boarding at the Addison and Belmont stations must board on the west side of the platform.

Customers should allow extra travel time.

Late Night Single Track on Blue Line O'Hare Branch Next Week
A single track will be in effect between Jefferson Park and Montrose from 11 p.m. Monday, July 24 until 4 a.m. Tuesday, July 25 and again in the same location, during the same hours Tuesday night. North and southbound customers boarding at the Montrose station must board on the west side of the platform.

CTA Providing Extra Service to Soldier Field for Bon Jovi Concert Friday
The CTA will operate extra transit service to get customers to and from Soldier Field for the Bon Jovi concert Friday, July 21. Gates open at 4:15 p.m., opening act begins at 5:45 p.m. and the main concert begins at 8 p.m.

Beginning at 4:15 p.m., CTA will provide additional buses on the #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express to Soldier Field and on the #12 Roosevelt between State Street and Soldier Field before the concert and for one hour after the concert ends.

CTA also will operate the #130 Grant Park Treasures route in both directions between the Ogilvie Transportation Center, Union Station and the Metra LaSalle Street station and Soldier Field from 3:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. and for one hour after the concert ends. (See separate release.)

CTA Providing Extra Service to Gay Games Closing Ceremony Saturday
Additional bus service will be available for spectators and participants going to the Gay Games closing ceremony Saturday, July 22 at Wrigley Field. The closing ceremony will begin at 3 p.m.

CTA will provide additional bus service on the #152 Addison and #22 Clark routes two hours before the ceremony, and for one hour after the ceremony ends.

#152 Addison buses operate between the Addison station on the Blue Line O'Hare branch and the east terminal at Lake Shore Drive.

#22 Clark buses operate north through the Loop on Dearborn and south on Clark from Howard.

In addition, spectators can access Wrigley Field from the #8 Halsted, which operates north on Halsted between 79th Street and Broadway and Waveland.

CTA's Red Line serves Wrigley Field via the accessible station at Addison. Spectators can transfer to Red Line trains from all other rail lines and from most east-west bus routes.

Sacramento Closed for Construction Work Through July 23
Sacramento is closed between Carroll and Franklin for construction work from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, July 21 and from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, July 22 and Sunday, July 23. #94 South California buses are rerouting in both directions via Fulton, Kedzie, Franklin and Sacramento, then resume the regular route.

71st Street Bridge to Close for Maintenance Next Week
The 71st Street bridge over the Dan Ryan Expressway will be temporarily closed beginning at 5 a.m. Wednesday, July 26 until maintenance work is completed. Eastbound #71 71st/South Shore buses will operate via 71st to Lafayette, 75th, State, back to 71st, then resume the regular route. Westbound service is not affected.

Additional Service Provided for Lakefront Pavilion Over Weekend
The #130 Grant Park Treasures will provide additional service for customers traveling to the International House Music Festival at the Charter One Pavilion at Northerly Island Saturday, July 22 and Sunday, July 23. The festival begins at 1 p.m. each day.

The #130 will operate later service between the Metra LaSalle Street station, and Ogilvie and Union stations and Northerly Island until 10:25 p.m. and will depart Northerly Island after the festival until 11:30 p.m. The #130 operates in both directions between the Ogilvie Transportation Center and Union Station to the Museum Campus on weekends and holidays through Labor Day.
