Service to Sunday’s Fireworks Displays at 63rd Street Beach, Foster Avenue Beach and Navy Pier
This year’s fireworks shows will be held on Sunday, July 4 at Foster Avenue Beach, 63rd Street Beach and Navy Pier and will begin at approximately 9 p.m.
CTA buses and trains will operate on a Sunday/holiday schedule on July 4. However, additional service will be provided for crowds leaving the Taste of Chicago which closes at 6 p.m. Beginning in the evening, more frequent service and extended hours will be provided on buses and trains to accommodate the anticipated crowds heading to the fireworks displays.
Due to street closures, reroutes will be in effect for bus routes serving each venue so customers should plan ahead and allow plenty of travel time. Details for service at each location are provided in a
separate press release.
To speed travel and reduce lines, customers are encouraged to buy farecards in advance with sufficient value or to add enough value to their existing farecards (either the Chicago Card or magnetic strip Transit Card) for their return trips later in the day.
Bus customers who use CTA fare media pay $2.00 to ride. For rail customers or customers who pay cash on the bus, the fare is $2.25. Customers who use magnetic strip cards or other CTA fare media may transfer for a 25 cent fee. Transfers are not available for customers paying fares in cash.

Service for 2010 Taste of Chicago
The Chicago Transit Authority encourages visitors attending the 2010 Taste of Chicago at Grant Park to take public transportation to the annual food festival. Convenient and affordable service is available for the event held through Sunday, July 4.
Extensive bus and rail service will be available to accommodate the crowds expected to attend the festival. Longer trains will operate into the Loop until late night on Taste weekends and extra buses will be available toward the close of each evening’s activities.

Bus Service for the Kane County Cougars vs. Peoria Chiefs Game at Wrigley Field
CTA provides a convenient option to Wrigley Field for fans attending the Kane County Cougars versus Peoria Chiefs game on Wednesday, July 7. Game time is 7 p.m.
The Red Line provides direct service to Wrigley Field via the accessible station at Addison, which is just a short walk away from the ballpark. Fans can transfer to Red Line trains from all other rail lines and from most east-west bus routes.
Riders heading to Wrigley Field can board Red Line trains from stations in the State Street subway downtown, or from Howard, where fans can connect from Purple or Yellow Line trains serving the northern suburbs. Fans using these stations also can take advantage of convenient Park & Ride lots at Howard, Linden and Skokie.
Several CTA bus routes also provide convenient service directly to Wrigley Field:
- #8 Halsted buses operate north on Halsted from 79th Street to Broadway/Waveland;
- #22 Clark buses operate north through the Loop on Dearborn and south on Clark from Howard;
- #152 Addison buses operate on Addison from Cumberland on the west to Lake Shore Drive on the east. Additional service will be provided on the #152 Addison route as crowds warrant, both before and after the game.

Orange Line – Other Events Affecting Service
Late Night Single Track in Effect at the Kedzie Orange Line Station Next Week
A late night single track will be in effect for southbound Orange Line trains at the Kedzie station from 9 p.m. each night until the end of service (approximately 1:30 a.m.) on Tuesday night, July 6, Wednesday night, July 7 and Thursday night, July 8, due to routine track maintenance.
During these times, southbound Orange Line customers at the Kedzie station must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
New/Updated Changes in Bus Service
#78 Montrose Buses Resume Normal Routing between Paulina and Greenview
Effective immediately, Montrose Avenue between Paulina and Greenview is open and #78 Montrose buses have resumed operating over the regular route. Buses were previously detoured in this area due to a sewer construction project.
Temporary Reroute in Effect for #78 Montrose Buses Due to Work at Clark/Wilson
Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Friday, October 29, #78 Montrose buses are temporarily unable to make turns at the intersection of Clark/Wilson due to a streetscape project.
Eastbound #78 Montrose buses are operating over the regular route along Montrose to Ashland then are traveling via Ashland, east on Wilson past Clark and then resuming the regular route east on Wilson. Westbound #78 buses are traveling the reverse route.
Temporary Reroute in Effect along #94 South California Route
Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Friday, July 9, the northbound curb-side lane of Sacramento at Chicago Avenue will be closed to all traffic due to a curb replacement project.
Northbound #94 South California buses are traveling over the regular route along Sacramento to Chicago before turning to begin southbound service. From Chicago/Troy, southbound #94 buses are operating via Chicago, Kedzie, Grand to Sacramento and resuming the regular route south on Sacramento.
#97 Skokie Buses Rerouted for Independence Day Parade
On Sunday, July 4 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., Oakton Street between Kenton and Laramie will be closed for the Skokie Independence Day Parade, resulting in a detour of the #97 Skokie bus route.
Westbound #97 Skokie buses will travel over the regular route along Oakton to Kostner then will operate via Kostner, Main to Niles Center Road and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #97 buses will travel the reverse route.
#8 Halsted Buses Detoured for the Fun Badge Tour: Chi-Town Shakedown 2010 Event
Halsted Street between Addison and Waveland will be closed to all traffic from 9:45 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. for the Fun Badge Tour: Chi-Town Shakedown 2010 event, resulting in a detour of the #8 Halsted bus route.
Northbound #8 Halsted buses will operate over the regular route along Halsted to Addison then will travel via Addison, Broadway, Waveland to Halsted and then resume the regular route. Southbound #8 buses will depart from the Waveland Terminal at Waveland/Broadway then will travel via Broadway, Addison to Halsted and then resume the regular route.
Six Bus Routes Detoured as a Result of the Taste of Chicago
Currently in effect until 5 p.m. Monday, July 5, Columbus Drive between Roosevelt and Monroe; Monroe Drive between Michigan and Lake Shore Drive; Jackson Drive between Michigan and Lake Shore Drive; and Congress Parkway between Michigan and Columbus are closed to all traffic for the Taste of Chicago.
As a result of these street closures, six CTA bus routes are being detoured to adjacent streets.
Southbound #2 Hyde Park Express, #6 Jackson Park Express, #10 Museum of Science & Industry, #14 Jeffery Express, #26 South Shore Express and #X28 Stony Island Express buses are traveling to Michigan/Balbo then are operating via Michigan, Roosevelt, Columbus and then resuming their regular routes. Northbound #2, #6, #10, #14, #26 and #X28 buses are traveling the reverse route.
Congress Plaza is no longer closed and as a result, buses operating along the following CTA routes are no longer being detoured: #7 Harrison, #126 Jackson, #132 Goose Island and #147 Outer Drive Express.

Daytime Reroute in Effect for Select #24 Wentworth Buses
Currently in effect until Friday, July 2, Vincennes Avenue between 84th Street and Lowe has been closed to all traffic from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. daily due to sewer repair work. As a result of this street closure, only #24 Wentworth buses operating between Clark/Wacker and 87th Street/Racine are affected.
Northbound and southbound #24 buses operating between Clark/Wacker and 79th Street/Vincennes are not affected and are traveling over their regular routes.
#24 Wentworth Buses to 87th Street/Racine (only)
Northbound #24 buses are operating over the regular route along Vincennes to Halsted then are traveling via Halsted to the 79th Street/Halsted terminal and continuing through the terminal to Emerald then operating via Emerald, 79th to Vincennes and resuming the regular route. Southbound #24 buses are traveling the reverse route.
Water Main Reconstruction Project Detours Westbound #56A North Milwaukee Buses
Currently in effect until Sunday, August 1, Devon Avenue between New Castle and Oak Park will be closed to all traffic due to a water main reconstruction project.
Westbound #56A North Milwaukee buses are traveling over the regular route along Milwaukee to Nagle then are operating via Nagle, Northwest Highway to Harlem and then resuming the regular route.
#81 Lawrence Bus Stops near the Kennedy Expressway Temporarily Eliminated
Currently in effect until Tuesday, August 31, the eastbound and westbound near side bus stops on Lawrence at LeClaire served by #81 Lawrence buses have been temporarily removed from service due to rehabilitation work on the Lawrence Avenue viaduct.
Temporary Elimination of Bus Stop at Michigan/Delaware
Currently in effect until Tuesday, August 31, the southbound near side stop at Michigan/Delaware has been temporarily removed from service due to sidewalk reconstruction work.
This stop is served by #33 Mag Mile Express, #143 Stockton/Michigan Express, #144 Marine/Michigan Express, #145 Wilson/Michigan Express, #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express, #147 Outer Drive Express, #148 Clarendon/Michigan Express and #151 Sheridan buses.
Customers may board and exit these buses from the near side stop at Michigan/Pearson.
Temporary Relocation of #75 74th/75th Bus Stop at 75th Street/Jeffery
Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Thursday, September 30, the eastbound near side stop at 75th Street/Jeffery served by #75 74th/75th buses has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction.
#111 Pullman/111th/115th Buses Undergo Reroutes Due to Bridge Repair Work
Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Sunday, October 31, the 111th Street Bridge over Interstate 57 (I-57) is closed to all traffic due to bridge and deck replacement work, resulting in a detour of the #111 Pullman/111th/115th bus route.
Southbound #111 Pullman/111th/115th buses are operating over the regular route along 111th Street to Marshfield then traveling via Marshfield, 112th Place, Hamlet to 111th Street and then resuming the regular route east on 111th Street.
Northbound #111 buses are traveling over the regular route along 111th Street to Throop then operating via Throop, 107th Street, Vincennes and then resuming the regular route south on Vincennes past 111th Street.
Temporary Removal of #126 Jackson Bus Stop at Jackson/Sangamon
Currently in effect until Friday, September 30, 2011, the eastbound far side stop at Jackson/Sangamon served by #126 Jackson buses has been temporarily removed from service due to nearby construction. Customers may board and exit eastbound #126 buses at either Jackson/Morgan or Jackson/Peoria.
Buses Rerouted on Saturdays for the Near North Farmer’s Market
From 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Saturday through October 30, Division Street between State and Clark will be closed for the Near North Farmer’s Market, resulting in a detour of the #36 Broadway and #70 Division bus routes.
Southbound #36 Broadway buses will travel over the regular route along Clark past Division to Maple then will operate via Maple to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along State to Elm then will travel via Elm to Clark and then resume the regular route.
Eastbound #70 Division buses will travel over the regular route along Division to Clark and then will operate via Clark, Maple to Dearborn and then resume the regular route. Westbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
Temporary Relocation of Bus Stop at Jeffery/75th Street
Currently in effect until further notice, the southbound far side bus stop at Jeffery/75th Street has been temporarily relocated to a near side stop due to sidewalk construction. This stop is served by southbound #14 Jeffery Express and #15 Jeffery Local buses.
Temporary Changes in Service for #21 Cermak and #62 Archer Buses Serving the Cermak-Chinatown Station
Currently in effect, customers at the Cermak-Chinatown Red Line station must use the new entrance located approximately one block north of Cermak on Archer Avenue. This entrance will serve as the primary access point for customers while the main entrance to the station on the north side of Cermak is reconstructed and made accessible.
As a result of these changes, and to accommodate customers transferring between bus and rail services, the following changes have been made to buses serving the station:
#21 Cermak
Eastbound #21 Cermak buses are traveling over the regular route along Cermak to Wentworth then operating via Wentworth, Archer, Clark to Cermak and resuming the regular route. Westbound #21 buses are traveling the reverse route.
- Cermak/Wentworth: the near side stop at Cermak/Wentworth served by eastbound #21 buses has been temporarily removed from service.
- Wentworth/Cermak: new temporary stops have been added at Wentworth/Cermak for eastbound and westbound #21 buses. Eastbound customers must board and exit buses from the far side stop; westbound customers must board and exit buses from the near side stop.
- Cermak/Red Line Station: the mid-block stop near the Cermak Road entrance of the Cermak-Chinatown station has been temporarily removed from service.
- Archer/Red Line Station: eastbound #21 buses are serving the new temporary mid-block stop near the Archer Avenue entrance of the Cermak-Chinatown station.
- Wentworth/Archer: westbound #21 buses are serving the new temporary far side stop at Wentworth/Archer.
#62 Archer
- Archer/Wentworth: the northbound near side stop at Archer/Wentworth served by #62 buses has been removed from service.
- Archer/Red Line Station: northbound #62 buses are serving the new mid-block stop near the Archer Avenue entrance of the Cermak-Chinatown station.
#56 Milwaukee Bus Stop at Milwaukee/Diversey Temporarily Relocated
Until further notice, the southbound near side bus stop at Milwaukee/Diversey served by #56 Milwaukee buses has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop.
Lane Restrictions near State and Grand Detour #29 State and #36 Broadway Buses
Due to lane restrictions associated with the Grand/State Red Line rehabilitation project at the northwest corner of State Street and Grand Avenue, #29 State and #36 Broadway buses are being detoured to adjacent streets until further notice.
Southbound #29 State buses are operating over the regular route along Grand past State to Clark then traveling via Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #29 buses are traveling along the remaining open lane along State and over the regular route.
Southbound #36 Broadway buses are traveling over the regular route along State to Ontario then operating via Ontario, Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #36 buses are operating over the regular route along Dearborn past Illinois to Ohio then traveling via Ohio to State and resuming the regular route.
Temporary Changes to Bus Stops near Sheridan/Foster
Currently in effect until further notice, the northbound near side stop at Sheridan/Foster has been temporarily removed from service due to the demolition and reconstruction of a nearby building. This stop is served by #136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express, #147 Outer Drive Express and #151 Sheridan buses.
Service Adjustments Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project
Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project, Franklin Street between Harrison and Van Buren and Lower Wacker Drive between Randolph and Harrison are closed until May 2012. As a result of these closures and other street reconfigurations, the following changes in bus service currently are in effect:
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
Northbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses are traveling over the regular route along Harrison to Canal then are operating via Canal, Jackson to Franklin and resuming the regular route. Southbound #11 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
The following temporary changes also have been made to bus stops served by northbound #11 buses:
- Canal/Harrison: a far side stop has been added to service.
- Canal/Jackson: a near side stop has been added to service.
- Jackson at the Chicago River: a near side stop has been added to service.
- 404 W. Harrison: the mid-block stop has been removed from service.
- Franklin/Van Buren: the far side stop has been removed from service.
#121 Union/Wacker Express
Northbound #121 Union/Wacker Express buses are operating over the regular route along Jackson past Wacker to Franklin then are traveling via Franklin, Lake, Post Place to Lower Wacker and then resuming the regular route.
Southbound #121 buses are operating over the regular route along Lower Wacker to the exit ramp for Upper Wacker and then traveling via Upper Wacker to Adams and resuming the regular route west on Adams.
#135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express buses are traveling south on Wacker to Jackson then are traveling east on Jackson past Franklin and resuming the regular route.
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #135 buses:
- Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
- Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
#136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #136 Sheridan/LaSalle buses are operating south on Wacker to Van Buren then are traveling via Van Buren, Canal to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #136 buses:
- Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
- Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
#156 LaSalle (PM Service Only)
During the evening rush period only, northbound #156 LaSalle buses departing from Union Station are traveling west on Van Buren to Wacker then are operating via Wacker to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
The following temporary bus stop change has been made and is in effect for northbound #156 buses during the evening rush period only:
- Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
