Blue Line – Slow Zone Work

Extended Blue Line Cut in the Dearborn Subway This Weekend

From 10 p.m. Friday July 17 until 4 a.m. Monday, July 20, service on the Blue Line between the Western/Milwaukee and Washington stations will be temporarily suspended this weekend as work continues in the Dearborn subway to reduce slow zones.
 
Bus shuttles will operate as a substitute for rail service making stops at Western/Milwaukee, Damen, Division, Chicago, Grand, adjacent to Clark/Lake (southbound buses on Clark and northbound buses on Dearborn/LaSalle), Washington, Monroe and Jackson.
 
The Western/Milwaukee and Jackson stations are accessible to customers with disabilities.

Red Line – Slow Zone Work

Daytime Reroute of Red Line Trains at Sheridan Next Week

A daytime reroute will be in effect for Red Line trains operating in both directions at the Sheridan station from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. each day beginning Tuesday, July 21 through Friday, July 24, while crews replace deteriorated rail ties, tie plates and spikes.
 
During these times, northbound and southbound Red Line trains will operate on the Purple Express tracks. Customers at the Sheridan station must board and exit trains from the outer platforms instead of the inner platforms.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Blue Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Late Night Single Track in Effect between the Harlem and Forest Park Stations

Westbound Blue Line trains will undergo a late night single track between the Harlem and Forest Park stations from 9 p.m. until 4 a.m. the following morning on Monday, July 20 and then again during the same hours on Tuesday, July 21, due to signal upgrade work.
 
Westbound Blue Line customers at the Harlem station must board and exit trains from the eastbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

O’Hare Branch Blue Line Trains Undergo Late Night Single Track Next Week

Due to signal upgrade work, northbound Blue Line trains will undergo a late night single track between the California and Belmont stations from 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 22 until 4 a.m. the following morning.
 
Northbound Blue Line customers at the Logan Square station must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

O’Hare Branch Blue Line Trains Undergo Late Night Single Track between Belmont and Addison

Northbound Blue Line trains will undergo a late night single track between the Belmont and Addison stations from 9 p.m. until 4 a.m. the following morning on Thursday, July 23.
 
Northbound customers at the Belmont and Addison stations must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Red Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Trains Undergo Late Night Single Track between 87th and 79th Street Stations

From 11 p.m. Tuesday, July 21 until 4 a.m. the following morning, northbound Red Line trains will undergo a late night single track between the 87th Street and 79th Street stations due to track maintenance work.
 
Northbound Red Line customers at the 79th Street station must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Other CTA Service Notifications

Express Vending Machines Temporarily Unavailable Due to Maintenance Early Sunday Morning

The Express Vending Machines at all CTA rail stations will be temporarily unavailable from 1 a.m. until 3 a.m. on Sunday, July 19, due to routine maintenance. During this time, customers will not be able to add value to their transit or Chicago Cards; however, machines will be able to read the card to provide customers with the value of the remaining balance on their cards. 
 
The Express Vending machines allow customers to add value to CTA fare media using a credit or debit card.
 
Customers are advised to use CTA’s regular cash vending machines or ensure their cards have enough value prior to their travel during those hours.
 

Additional Service for Special Events

#19 United Center Express Serves Upcoming Beyonce Concert

CTA will operate its #19 United Center Express buses for the Beyonce concert on Friday, July 17. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m.

 
Buses will leave every 10 minutes from Michigan and Randolph beginning 90 minutes before the start of the event until the starting time of the event. When the event ends, #19 buses will depart the United Center approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.
 
#19 buses no longer make stops along Michigan Avenue north of Randolph, but continue to make all stops on Madison from Wabash to Clinton. From Clinton, #19 buses run express to the United Center.
 
After the event, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3. On the return trip, #19 buses will operate east on Washington to Wacker, then head south to Monroe and east to Michigan, making all stops from Jefferson to Michigan before turning north on Michigan and making the final stop at Randolph.
 

Additional Service for Upcoming Concerts at Wrigley Field

CTA provides a convenient travel option for fans attending upcoming concerts at Wrigley Field this week and next week. The Rascal Flatts concert will take place on Saturday, July 18 at 7 p.m. The second Elton John and Billy Joel concert is on Tuesday, July 21 at 7 p.m. 
 
Additional bus and rail service will be provided for all events.

Extra Service Provided for Pitchfork Music Festival in Union Park This Weekend

The CTA will operate longer trains on the Green and Pink Lines for the Pitchfork Music Festival in Union Park beginning Friday, July 18 until Sunday, July 20. Concert goers can get to Union Park via the # 9 Ashland and/or #20 Madison buses, or by taking the Green and Pink Lines to the Ashland station.
 
Buses Rerouted for Pitchfork Festival
From 3 p.m. Friday, July 17 through 10 p.m. Sunday, July 19, CTA’s #19 United Center Express and westbound #X20 Washington/Madison buses will undergo temporary reroutes during the Pitchfork Festival.
 
Westbound #19 buses will operate over the regular route along Randolph to Racine then will travel via Racine, Madison, Ashland to Washington and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #19 buses will travel over the regular route along Warren to Ashland then will operate via, Ashland, Madison, Racine then return to Washington and resume the regular route.
 
Westbound #X20 buses will operate over the regular route to Randolph/Racine then will travel via Racine, Madison, Ashland then return to Washington and resume the regular route. Eastbound #20 buses will travel over the regular route.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
 

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

Sewer Repairs Detour #44 Wallace/Racine Buses until Late August

Racine Avenue between 73rd and 72nd streets will be closed to all traffic until Friday, August 21, due to emergency sewer repair work.
 
Northbound #44 Wallace/Racine buses will travel over the regular route along Racine to 74th Street then will operate via 74th Street, Loomis, 71st Street to Racine and then resume the regular route. Southbound #44 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Changes to #29 State Bus Stops until Late August

Due to construction work on a nearby water main, the northbound near side and the southbound far side stops at State/Pershing will be removed from service until Friday, August 21.
 
Customers can board and alight northbound and southbound #29 buses from either State/38th Street or State/40th Street.
 

Ford City Mall Terminal Returns to Original Location

Following the completion of nearby construction work, effective immediately the CTA bus terminal at Ford City Mall will be returned to its original location – 800 feet northwest from the temporary location. This terminal is served by #54B South Cicero and #79 79th buses.
 

Viaduct Work Reroutes #63rd 63rd Street Buses Next Two Weekends

Currently in effect until 6 p.m. Monday, July 20, 63rd Street will be closed between Hamilton and Bell due to viaduct maintenance work. The work also will take place during the same hours from Friday, July 24 until Monday, July 27.
 
Westbound #63 63rd Street buses will operate over the regular route along 63rd Street to Damen then will travel via Damen, 67th Street, Western, then return to 63rd Street and resume the regular route. Eastbound buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Work on Viaduct Detours #8 Halsted Buses This Weekend

Halsted Street between Fulton and Hubbard will be closed to all traffic from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. each day on Saturday, July 18 and Sunday, July 19, due to the installation of handrails along the Union Pacific viaduct.
 
Northbound #8 Halsted buses will travel over the regular route along Halsted to Fulton then will operate via Fulton, Desplaines, Milwaukee to Halsted and then resume the regular route. Southbound #8 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Helicopter Lift along Dearborn Detours Three Routes Saturday Morning

Dearborn Street between Harrison and Congress will be closed from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 18, due to a scheduled helicopter lift.
 
Northbound #22 Clark and #62 Archer buses will operate over their regular routes along Dearborn to Harrison then will travel via Harrison, State, Congress to Dearborn and then resume their regular routes. Southbound #22 and #62 buses will travel over their regular routes.
 
Northbound #36 Broadway buses will travel over the regular route along Harrison past Dearborn to State then will operate via State, Congress to Dearborn and then resume the regular route. Southbound #36 buses will travel over the regular route.
 

Four Downtown Buses Detoured for Helicopter Lifts on Saturday and Sunday

Wacker Drive between Randolph and Madison, and Washington Street between Canal and Franklin will be closed to all traffic from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. Saturday, July 18 and then again from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. on Sunday, July 19, due to scheduled helicopter lifts.
 
Eastbound #20 Madison and southbound #56 Milwaukee buses will operate over their regular routes along Washington to Clinton then will travel via Clinton, Monroe, Franklin to Washington and then resume their regular routes. Westbound #20 and northbound #56 buses will operate along their regular routes.
 
Eastbound #60 Blue Island/26th buses will travel over the regular route along Canal to Monroe then will operate via Monroe, Franklin to Washington and then resume the regular route. Westbound #60 buses will travel over the regular route.
 
Northbound #124 Navy Pier buses will operate over the regular route along Canal to Monroe then will travel via Monroe, Franklin to Wacker and then resume the regular route. Southbound #124 buses will travel over the regular route.
 

Annual 63rd Street Music Festival Detours #63 63rd Buses This Weekend

From 6 a.m. Saturday, July 18 until 8 a.m. Monday, July 20, 63rd Street between Halsted and Morgan will be closed to all traffic for the 2nd Annual 63rd Street Music Festival.
 
Eastbound #63 63rd buses will operate over the regular along 63rd Street to Racine then will travel via Racine, 59th Street, Halsted to 63rd Street and then resume the regular route. Westbound #63 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

#78 Montrose Buses Reroute for Fleet Feet Sports Women’s 5K/10K Festival

From 6 a.m. until 10 a.m. on Sunday, July 19, Simmonds Drive from Montrose to Wilson will be closed to all traffic for the Fleet Feet Sports Women’s 5K/10K Festival.
 
Eastbound #78 buses will operate over the regular route along Wilson to Marine Drive then will travel via Marine to Montrose before beginning westbound service. Westbound #78 buses will travel over the regular route.
 

#21 Cermak Buses Rerouted for the 2009 McDonald’s Chinatown Summer Fair

From 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday, July 19, Cermak Road between Archer and Wentworth, and Wentworth Avenue between Cermak and 24th Place will be closed for the 2009 McDonald’s Chinatown Summer Fair.
 
Eastbound #21 Cermak buses will travel over the regular route along Cermak to Archer then will operate via Archer, Clark to Cermak and then resume the regular route. Westbound #21 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Repairs to Madison Street Bridge Detours Seven Buses on Tuesday

On Tuesday, July 21 from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., the Madison Street Bridge over the Chicago River will be closed to all traffic due to repair work. Seven CTA bus routes will be detoured during this time.
 
Northbound #14 Jeffery Express and #56 Milwaukee, and westbound #20 Madison and #X20 Washington/Madison Express buses will travel over their regular routes along Madison to Wacker then will operate via Wacker, Randolph, Clinton to Madison and then resume their regular routes.
 
Southbound #14 and #56 and eastbound #20 and #X20 buses are not affected and will travel over their regular routes.
 
Westbound #60 Blue Island/26th and #124 Navy Pier and southbound #157 Streeterville buses will operate over their regular routes along Madison to Wacker then will travel via Wacker, Randolph to Clinton, south on Clinton past Madison and then will resume their regular routes.
 
Eastbound #60 and #124 and northbound #157 buses will operate over their regular routes.
  

Daytime Relocation of Bus Stops at Irving Park/Broadway on Thursday

Due to a scheduled crane lift at the northwest corner of Irving Park/Broadway the following bus stop changes will be in effect on Thursday, July 23 from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m.
 
#X9 Ashland Express, #80 Irving Park and #X80 Irving Park Express
The westbound bus stop at Irving Park/Broadway will be temporarily relocated 60 feet west from its current location to the other side of the Thorek Hospital driveway. This location is served by southbound #X9 Ashland Express and westbound #80 Irving Park and #X80 Irving Park Express buses.
 
#36 Broadway
The southbound near side stop at Broadway/Irving park will be relocated to a far side stop just south of the BP gas station drive way. This location is served by southbound #36 Broadway buses.
 

Ongoing Bus Reroutes

Construction Temporarily Detours #86 Narragansett/Ridgeland Buses

Due to construction work at the northeast corner of South Boulevard and Ridgeland, southbound #86 Narragansett/Ridgeland buses are temporarily detoured on weekdays only between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. until further notice.
 
Southbound #86 buses will operate over the regular route along Lake Street past Lombard to Austin then will travel via Austin, Washington, Ridgeland to the intersection of Ridgeland/South Boulevard and will make a near side service stop before beginning northbound service. Northbound #86 buses will continue north on Ridgeland over the regular route.
 

Sewer Repair Work Reroutes #95E 93rd/95th and #N5 South Shore Night Buses

Due to sewer construction work, 93rd Street between Muskegon and Escanaba/Anthony/Exchange will be closed to all traffic until late-July.
 
Eastbound #95E 93rd/95th and northbound #N5 South Shore Night buses will travel over their regular routes along 93rd Street to Colfax then will operate via Colfax, 95th Street, Escanaba to 93rd Street/Anthony/Exchange and then will travel northeast on Exchange over their regular routes. Westbound #95E and southbound #N5 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

#75 74th/75th Bus Stop Changes

Due to sewer construction work, the eastbound and westbound bus stops at 75th Street/Indiana, served by #75 74th/75th buses, temporarily will be removed from service until further notice.
 
Eastbound customers can board and exit #75 buses from the near side stops at 75th Street/Prairie or 75th Street/Michigan.
 
Westbound customers can board and exit #75 buses from the near side stops at 75th Street/Michigan or 75th Street/Prairie.
 

#60 Blue Island/26th Buses Rerouted Due to Construction

Until further notice, #60 Blue Island/26th buses operating in both directions will be rerouted due to the closure of Laflin Street between Cermak and 21st Street and the closure of Loomis Street between Cermak and 18th Street. The street closures are due to construction work at the Benito Juarez School campus.
 
Eastbound #60 Blue Island buses will operate over the regular route along Blue Island to Ashland then will travel via Ashland, 18th Street to Loomis/Blue Island and then resume the regular route along Blue Island. Westbound #60 buses will travel over the regular route along Blue Island past Laflin to 21st Street then will operate via 21st Street, Ashland to Cermak/Blue Island and then resume the regular route along Blue Island.
 

Buses Detoured Until Late July Due to Division Street Bridge Repairs

The westbound lanes of the Division Street Bridge over the north branch of the Chicago River will be closed to all traffic until late Friday, July 31, due to repair work.
 
Westbound #70 Division buses will operate over the regular route along Division to Larrabee then will travel via Larrabee to Chicago, Milwaukee, Elston to Division and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #70 buses will travel the regular route.
 
Southbound #132 Goose Island Express buses will travel over the regular route along Halsted past Division to North Branch then will operate via North Branch, Cherry to Division and then resume the regular route. Northbound #132 buses will travel over the regular route.
 

Temporary Removal of Bus Stop along the #81 Lawrence Route

Until Friday, August 21, the eastbound far side stop at Lawrence/Oakley, served by #81 Lawrence buses, temporarily will be removed from service due to construction work. Customers can board at the eastbound near side stops at Lawrence/Western or Lawrence/Leavitt.
 

Buses Rerouted on Saturdays for the Near North Farmer’s Market

From 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Saturday through October 31, Division Street between State and Clark will be closed for the Near North Farmer’s Market.
 
Southbound #36 Broadway buses will travel over the regular route along Clark past Division to Maple then will operate via Maple to State and then resume the regular route.
 
Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along State to Elm then will travel via Elm to Clark and then resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #70 Division buses will travel over the regular route along Division to Clark and then will operate via Clark, Maple to Dearborn and then resume the regular route. Westbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route. 
 

Buses Rerouted Due to Construction on Milwaukee Avenue

Eastbound #81W West Lawrence and northbound #91 Austin buses will be rerouted until Monday, November 30, due to construction on Milwaukee Avenue between Gale and Montrose.
 
Eastbound #81W West Lawrence and northbound #91 Austin buses will travel over their regular routes to Lawrence/Milwaukee to a far side stop then will continue eastbound on Lawrence to Lipps, heading north on Lipps to enter the Jefferson Park bus terminal. 
 
Westbound #81W and southbound #91 buses are not affected and will travel along their regular routes.
 

Lane Restrictions near State and Grand Detour #29 State and #65 Grand Buses

Due to lane restrictions associated with the Grand/State Red Line rehabilitation project at the northwest corner of State Street and Grand Avenue, #29 State and #36 Broadway buses will be detoured to adjacent streets. These changes in service are expected to remain in place until April 2010.
 
Southbound #29 State buses will operate over the regular route along Grand past State to Clark then will travel via Clark, Illinois to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #29 buses will be able to travel on the remaining open lane along State and will operate over its regular route. 
 
Southbound #36 Broadway buses will travel over the regular route along State to Ontario then will operate via Ontario, Clark, Illinois to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along Dearborn past Illinois to Ohio then will travel via Ohio to State and then resume the regular route.

14 CTA Bus Routes Affected Due to Jackson Viaduct Work

Due to the reconstruction of the Jackson Boulevard viaduct between Canal and Wacker, changes in service along 14 CTA bus routes are expected to remain in place until April 2010. The following CTA bus routes are being rerouted to adjacent streets:
