Blue Line – Slow Zone Work

Extended Blue Line Cut in the Dearborn Subway This Weekend

This weekend, work in the Dearborn subway to reduce slow zones will extend to include suspension of service to one more station – Clark/Lake – than on previous weekends. From 10 p.m. Friday July 10 until 4 a.m. Monday, July 13, service in the subway between the Western/Milwaukee and Washington stations will be temporarily suspended.
 
Bus shuttles will operate as a substitute for rail service making stops at Western/Milwaukee, Damen, Division, Chicago, Grand, adjacent to Clark/Lake (southbound buses on Clark and northbound buses on LaSalle), Washington, Monroe and Jackson.
 
The Western/Milwaukee and Jackson stations are accessible to customers with disabilities.

Red Line – Slow Zone Work

Daytime Reroute of Red Line Trains at Sheridan Next Week

A daytime reroute will be in effect for Red Line trains operating in both directions at the Sheridan station from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. each day beginning Tuesday, July 14 through Friday, July 17, while crews replace deteriorated rail ties, tie plates and spikes.
 
During these times, northbound and southbound Red Line trains will operate on the Purple Express tracks. Customers at the Sheridan station must board and exit trains from the outer platforms instead of the inner platforms.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Blue Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Late Night Single Track in Effect between the Montrose and Addison Stations

Southbound Blue Line trains will undergo a late night single track between the Montrose and Addison stations from 9 p.m. Monday, July 13 until 4 a.m. the following morning, due to signal upgrade work.
 
Southbound Blue Line customers at the Irving Park station must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Trains Undergo Late Night Single Track in the Dearborn Subway Next Week

Due to signal upgrade work, northbound Blue Line trains will undergo a late night single track between the LaSalle and Grand stations from 10 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning three nights next week: Tuesday night, July 14; Wednesday night, July 15 and Thursday night, July 16.
 
During these times, northbound Blue Line customers at the Jackson, Monroe, Washington and Clark/Lake stations must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Red Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Northbound Red Line Trains Temporarily Unable to Stop at Morse and Jarvis Thursday Night

Due to track maintenance work, northbound Red Line trains temporarily will be unable to stop at the Morse and Jarvis stations from 11 p.m. Thursday, July 9 until 4 a.m. the following morning.
 
During this time, northbound Red Line customers who want to exit at Morse and Jarvis should exit at Howard and board a southbound train to the appropriate station. Customers at Morse and Jarvis who want to travel northbound should board a southbound train to Loyola to access a northbound train.
 
Southbound Red Line service between Howard and Loyola is not affected.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Southbound Single Track in Effect at the Sox-35th Station Early Friday Morning

Southbound Red Line trains will be operating on the northbound track at the Sox-35th station from 1 a.m. until 4 a.m. on Friday, July 10, due to track maintenance work.
 
Southbound Red Line customers at the Sox-35th station must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Late Night Single Track in Effect between Roosevelt and Cermak-Chinatown Next Week

Due to track maintenance work, a late night single track will be in effect for southbound Red Line trains operating between the Roosevelt and Cermak-Chinatown stations from 11 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning the following four nights: Sunday night, July 12; Monday night, July 13; Tuesday night, July 14 and Wednesday night, July 15.
 
During these times, southbound Red Line customers at the Cermak-Chinatown station must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Additional Service for Special Events

#19 United Center Express Serves Upcoming Events

CTA will operate its #19 United Center Express buses on the following dates and times:
 
  • Monday, July 13 at 8 p.m. – Green Day concert
  • Friday, July 17 at 7:30 p.m. – Beyonce concert  
 
Buses will leave every 10 minutes from Michigan and Randolph beginning 90 minutes before the start of the event until the starting time of the event. When the event ends, #19 buses will depart the United Center approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.
 
#19 buses no longer make stops along Michigan Avenue north of Randolph, but continue to make all stops on Madison from Wabash to Clinton. From Clinton, #19 buses run express to the United Center.
 
After the event, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3. On the return trip, #19 buses will operate east on Washington to Wacker, then head south to Monroe and east to Michigan, making all stops from Jefferson to Michigan before turning north on Michigan and making the final stop at Randolph.
 

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

Taste of Park Ridge Temporarily Reroutes #68 Buses until Sunday Afternoon

The Park Ridge Metra station will be closed for the annual Taste of Park Ridge festival until noon on Sunday, July 12. As a result, #68 Northwest Highway buses will not be entering the station parking lot before beginning the southbound route.
 
Instead, northbound #68 buses will operate over the regular route along Summit to Prospect then will travel via Prospect to Northwest Highway and then begin southbound service over the regular route – southeast along Northwest Highway.
 

#55A 55th/Austin Buses Detoured Until Sunday for the Saint Symphorosa Carnival

Due to the annual Saint Symphorosa Carnival currently underway, Austin Avenue at 61st Street is closed to all traffic until 10 p.m. Sunday, July 12.
 
Westbound #55A 55th/Austin buses will travel over the regular route along Austin to 61st Street then will operate via 61st Street, Meade to 63rd Street and then resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #55A buses will operate over the regular route along Austin to 63rd Street then will travel via 63rd Street, Mayfield, 61st Street to Austin and then resume the regular route.
 

Viaduct Deconstruction Work Detours #126 Jackson Buses

Jackson Boulevard between Washtenaw and Rockwell will be closed to all traffic until 5 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, due to work associated with the removal of the nearby viaduct.
 
Westbound #126 Jackson buses will travel over the regular route along Jackson to Western then will operate via Western, Madison, California to Jackson and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #126 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Changes to Bus Stops in Effect This Week

Already in effect, the following changes were made to bus stops along the subsequent routes:
 
#1 Indiana-Hyde Park and #4 Cottage Grove
The northbound near side stop at Michigan/Cermak has been relocated to a far side stop.
 
#3 King Drive, #X3 King Drive Express and #X4 Cottage Grove Express
  • #3, #X3 and #X4 buses are now serving the far side stop at Michigan/Cermak.
  • The northbound near side stop at Cermak/Indiana has been removed from service.
 
#43 43rd
The eastbound and westbound near side stops at 43rd Street/Champlain have been removed from service.
 
#47 47th
  • The westbound near side stop at 47th Street/Homan has been relocated to a far side stop.
  • The westbound near side stop at 47th Street/Drake has been removed from service.
 
#50 Damen
The southbound near side stop at Damen/Madison has been relocated to a far side stop.
 
#66 Chicago
The westbound near side stop at Chicago/Leavitt has been relocated to a far side stop.
 
#74 Fullerton
  • The eastbound and westbound mid-block stops on Fullerton between Seeley and the Kennedy Expressway have been removed from service.
  • The eastbound and westbound stops at Fullerton/Wolcott have been removed from service.
 
#156 LaSalle
#156 buses are now serving the new mid-block stop eastbound on Harrison between Canal and the Chicago River. This stop is currently served by #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses.  
 

Changes to #81 Lawrence Bus Stops

Effective at the start of service on Friday, July 10, the following changes will be made to bus stops served by #81 Lawrence buses:
 
  • Lawrence/Rockwell: the eastbound and westbound near side stops will be relocated to far side stops.
  • Lawrence/Ashland: the eastbound near side stop will be relocated to a far side stop.
  • Lawrence/Oakley: the westbound near side stop will be relocated to a far side stop.
 

Bastille Day 5k Run/Walk Detours #126 Jackson Buses on Thursday

From 1 p.m. until midnight Thursday, July 9, both Jackson and Van Buren will be closed between Green and Racine due to the Bastille Day 5k Run/Walk and block party.
 
Eastbound #126 Jackson buses will travel over the regular route along Jackson to Racine then will operate via Racine, Harrison, Halsted to Jackson and then resume the regular route.
 
Westbound #126 buses will travel over the regular route along Van Buren to Halsted then will operate via Halsted, Harrison, Racine to Van Buren and then resume the regular route.  
 

#66 Chicago Buses Detoured Friday through Monday for West Fest Event

Chicago Avenue between Damen and Wood will be closed from 12:01 a.m. Friday, July 10 until 6 a.m. Monday, July 13, due to the West Fest event.
 
Eastbound #66 Chicago buses will travel over the regular route along Chicago to Damen then will operate via Damen, Augusta, Ashland to Chicago and then resume the regular route. Westbound #66 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Daytime Reroute of #8 Halsted Buses Due to Bridge Maintenance on Friday

The Halsted Bridge over the Chicago River will be closed to all traffic on Friday, July 10 from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. due to maintenance work.
 
Northbound #8 Halsted buses will operate over the regular route along Halsted to Archer then will travel via Archer, Canal, Cermak to Halsted and then resume the regular route. Southbound #8 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick Buses Detoured for Two Separate Events This Weekend

Chicago Folk and Roots Festival
From 6 p.m. Friday, July 10 until 11:50 p.m. Sunday, July 12, Lincoln Avenue between Montrose and Sunnyside will be closed to all traffic for the Chicago Folk and Roots Festival.
 
Southbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses will travel over the regular route along Western past Leland to Montrose then will operate via Montrose to Lincoln and then resume the regular route. Northbound #11 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Rock Around the Block Festival
From 2 a.m. Saturday, July 11 until 11:59 p.m. Sunday, July 12, Lincoln Avenue between Addison and Roscoe will be closed to all traffic for the Rock Around the Block Festival.
 
Southbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses will operate over the regular route along Lincoln to Addison then will travel via Addison, Ashland to Lincoln and then resume the regular route. Northbound #11 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

K.I.D.S. Festival Detours #8 Halsted Buses on Saturday

Halsted Street between 67th and 69th streets will be closed to all traffic from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, due to the K.I.D.S. festival.
 
Southbound #8 Halsted buses will travel over the regular route along Halsted to 67th Street then will operate via 67th Street, Racine, 69th Street to Halsted and then resume the regular route. Northbound #8 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Lake Street Bridge Work Detours #125 Water Tower Express Buses Next Week

The Lake Street Bridge between Canal and Wacker will be closed from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. on Monday, July 13 and then again during the same hours on Tuesday, July 14, due to bridge maintenance.
 
Northbound #125 Water Tower Express buses will operate over the regular route along Canal to Washington then will travel via Washington to Wacker and then resume the regular route.
 
Southbound #125 buses will travel over the regular route along Wacker past Lake to Randolph then will operate via Randolph to Clinton and then resume the regular route.
 

Ongoing Bus Reroutes

UPDATE: Construction Temporarily Detours #86 Narragansett/Ridgeland Buses

Due to construction work at the northeast corner of South Boulevard and Ridgeland, southbound #86 Narragansett/Ridgeland buses are temporarily detoured on weekdays only between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. until further notice.
 
Southbound #86 buses will operate over the regular route along Lake Street past Lombard to Austin then will travel via Austin, Washington, Ridgeland to the intersection of Ridgeland/South Boulevard and will make a near side service stop before beginning northbound service. Northbound #86 buses will continue north on Ridgeland over the regular route.
 

UPDATE: Sewer Repair Work Reroutes #95E 93rd/95th and #N5 South Shore Night Buses

Due to sewer construction work, 93rd Street between Muskegon and Escanaba/Anthony/Exchange will be closed to all traffic until late-July.
 
Eastbound #95E 93rd/95th and northbound #N5 South Shore Night buses will travel over their regular routes along 93rd Street to Colfax then will operate via Colfax, 95th Street, Escanaba to 93rd Street/Anthony/Exchange and then will travel northeast on Exchange over their regular routes. Westbound #95E and southbound #N5 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

#75 74th/75th Bus Stop Changes

Due to sewer construction work, the eastbound and westbound bus stops at 75th Street/Indiana, served by #75 74th/75th buses, temporarily will be removed from service until 9:30 a.m. Monday, July 13.
 
Eastbound customers can board and exit #75 buses from the near side stops at 75th Street/Prairie or 75th Street/Michigan.
 
Westbound customers can board and exit #75 buses from the near side stops at 75th Street/Michigan or 75th Street/Prairie.
 

#60 Blue Island/26th Buses Rerouted Due to Construction

Until Friday, July 17, #60 Blue Island/26th buses operating in both directions will be rerouted due to the closure of Laflin Street between Cermak and 21st Street and the closure of Loomis Street between Cermak and 18th Street. The street closures are due to construction work at the Benito Juarez School campus.
 
Eastbound #60 Blue Island buses will operate over the regular route along Blue Island to Ashland then will travel via Ashland, 18th Street to Loomis/Blue Island and then resume the regular route along Blue Island. Westbound #60 buses will travel over the regular route along Blue Island past Laflin to 21st Street then will operate via 21st Street, Ashland to Cermak/Blue Island and then resume the regular route along Blue Island.
 

Buses Detoured Until Late July Due to Division Street Bridge Repairs

The westbound lanes of the Division Street Bridge over the north branch of the Chicago River will be closed to all traffic until late Friday, July 31, due to repair work.
 
Westbound #70 Division buses will operate over the regular route along Division to Larrabee then will travel via Larrabee to Chicago, Milwaukee, Elston to Division and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #70 buses will travel the regular route.
 
Southbound #132 Goose Island Express buses will travel over the regular route along Halsted past Division to North Branch then will operate via North Branch, Cherry to Division and then resume the regular route. Northbound #132 buses will travel over the regular route.
 

Temporary Removal of Bus Stop along the #81 Lawrence Route

Until Friday, August 21, the eastbound far side stop at Lawrence/Oakley, served by #81 Lawrence buses, temporarily will be removed from service due to construction work. Customers can board at the eastbound near side stops at Lawrence/Western or Lawrence/Leavitt.
 

Buses Rerouted on Saturdays for the Near North Farmer’s Market

From 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Saturday through October 31, Division Street between State and Clark will be closed for the Near North Farmer’s Market.
 
Southbound #36 Broadway buses will travel over the regular route along Clark past Division to Maple then will operate via Maple to State and then resume the regular route.
 
Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along State to Elm then will travel via Elm to Clark and then resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #70 Division buses will travel over the regular route along Division to Clark and then will operate via Clark, Maple to Dearborn and then resume the regular route. Westbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route. 
 

Buses Rerouted Due to Construction on Milwaukee Avenue

Eastbound #81W West Lawrence and northbound #91 Austin buses will be rerouted until Monday, November 30, due to construction on Milwaukee Avenue between Gale and Montrose.
 
Eastbound #81W West Lawrence and northbound #91 Austin buses will travel over their regular routes to Lawrence/Milwaukee to a far side stop then will continue eastbound on Lawrence to Lipps, heading north on Lipps to enter the Jefferson Park bus terminal. 
 
Westbound #81W and southbound #91 buses are not affected and will travel along their regular routes.
 

Lane Restrictions near State and Grand Detour #29 State and #65 Grand Buses

Due to lane restrictions associated with the Grand/State Red Line rehabilitation project at the northwest corner of State Street and Grand Avenue, #29 State and #36 Broadway buses will be detoured to adjacent streets. These changes in service are expected to remain in place until April 2010.
 
Southbound #29 State buses will operate over the regular route along Grand past State to Clark then will travel via Clark, Illinois to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #29 buses will be able to travel on the remaining open lane along State and will operate over its regular route. 
 
Southbound #36 Broadway buses will travel over the regular route along State to Ontario then will operate via Ontario, Clark, Illinois to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along Dearborn past Illinois to Ohio then will travel via Ohio to State and then resume the regular route.

UPDATED: 14 CTA Bus Routes Affected Due to Jackson Viaduct Work

Due to the reconstruction of the Jackson Boulevard viaduct between Canal and Wacker, changes in service along 14 CTA bus routes are expected to remain in place until April 2010. The following CTA bus routes are being rerouted to adjacent streets:
