Events Affecting CTA Service Beginning the Weekend of January 29-31

IMPORTANT NOTE: CTA service reductions will go into effect on Sunday, February 7. Service will operate less frequently on 119 bus routes and seven rail lines, and hours of service will be reduced on 41 bus routes. Nine express bus routes will be eliminated. Orange Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Orange Line Trains Rerouted Due to Switching Work on Loop Elevated Tracks Orange Line trains in the Loop temporarily will be rerouted to operate on the Brown Line tracks from approximately 5:50 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Sunday January 31, due to construction work. Orange Line trains will be rerouted from the inner track to the outer Loop track, and travel counterclockwise.
 
Entering the Loop, Orange Line trains will make their first stop at Adams/Wabash, Madison/Wabash, Randolph/Wabash, State/Lake, Clark/Lake, Washington/Wells, Quincy/Wells, LaSalle/Van Buren and Library, then proceed to Roosevelt and resume the normal route.

Blue Line – Slow Zone Work

Northbound Trains Undergo Late Night Single Track between LaSalle and Grand

Northbound Blue Line trains will undergo a late night single track in the Dearborn subway between the LaSalle and Grand stations from 10 p.m. Friday, January 29 until 6 a.m. the following morning and then again from 10 p.m. Saturday, January 30 until 7 a.m. the following morning, due to sewer cleaning and detail work associated with the track renewal project.
 
During these times, northbound Blue Line customers at the Jackson, Monroe, Washington and Clark/Lake stations must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Blue Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Early Morning Single Track between California and Belmont on Monday

Due to track maintenance, northbound Blue Lines trains on the O’Hare branch will undergo an early morning single track between the California and Belmont stations from 1 a.m. until 3:30 a.m. on Monday morning, February 1.
 
During these times, northbound Blue Line customers at the Logan Square station must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Southbound Single Track in Effect between Grand and LaSalle Next Friday Morning

An early-morning single track will be in effect for southbound Blue Line trains between the Grand and LaSalle stations in the Dearborn subway from 12:01 a.m. until 4 a.m. Friday, February 5, due to work associated with Monroe escalator renewal project.
 
Southbound Blue Line customers at the Jackson, Monroe, Washington and Clark/Lake stations must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Red Line – Slow Zone Work

Trains Rerouted at the Sheridan Station This Saturday

Northbound and southbound Red Line trains will be rerouted at the Sheridan station from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday, January 30, while crews replace deteriorated rail ties, tie plates and spikes.
 
During this time, northbound and southbound Red Line trains will operate on the Purple Express tracks.  Customers at the Sheridan station must board and exit trains from the outer platforms instead of the inner platforms.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Red Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Trains Undergo a Late Night Single Track Due to Subway Sewer Cleaning

A late night single track will be in effect for northbound Red Line trains between the Grand and Clark/Division stations from 10 p.m. Sunday, January 31 until 4 a.m. the following morning¸ due to sewer cleaning in the subway.
 
During this time, northbound Red Line customers at the Grand and Chicago stations must board and exit trains from the southbound platform.
 
Northbound customers at the Clark/Division station must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 
Next Week
From 11 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Monday night, February 1 through Friday morning, February 5, northbound Red Line trains will undergo a late night single track between the Grand and Clark/Division stations as sewer cleaning in the subway continues.
 
During these times, northbound Red Line customers at the Grand and Chicago stations must board and exit trains from the southbound platform.
 
Northbound customers at the Clark/Division station must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Service for Upcoming Events

#19 United Center Express Serves Upcoming Events

CTA will operate its #19 United Center Express buses before and after the following events at the United Center:
 
  • Tuesday, February 2 at 7 p.m. – Los Angeles Clippers versus Bulls
  • Wednesday, February 3 at 7:30 p.m. – St. Louis Blues versus Blackhawks
  • Friday, February 5 at 7:30 p.m. – Phoenix Coyotes versus Blackhawks
 
Buses will leave every 10 minutes from Michigan and Randolph beginning 90 minutes before the start of each event until the event begins.  When the event ends, #19 buses will depart the United Center approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.
 
#19 buses no longer make stops along Michigan Avenue north of Randolph, but continue to make all stops on Madison from Wabash to Clinton.  From Clinton, #19 buses run express to the United Center.
 
After each game, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3.  On the return trip, #19 buses will operate east on Washington to Wacker, then head south to Monroe and east to Michigan, making all stops from Jefferson to Michigan before turning north on Michigan and making the final stop at Randolph.
 

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

Helicopter Lift Detours Three Routes Near Water Tower Place Saturday Morning

From 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. Saturday, January 30, Chicago Avenue between Michigan and Lake Shore Drive; Mies van der Rohe Way between Chicago and Chestnut; and Chestnut Street between Mies van der Rohe and Michigan will be closed to all traffic due to a helicopter lift.
 
Northbound #3 King Drive buses will travel north along Michigan to Erie then operating via Erie to Fairbanks before turning to begin southbound service. Southbound #3 buses will depart from Ontario/Fairbanks and travel via Ontario to Michigan and then resume the regular route south on Michigan.
 
Northbound #10 Museum of Science & Industry buses will operate over the regular route along Michigan past Chicago to Delaware then will travel via Delaware, Inner Lake Shore Drive to Oak Street before turning to begin southbound service. Southbound #10 buses will depart from Oak/Michigan and travel south on Michigan over the regular route.
 
Eastbound #66 Chicago buses will travel over the regular route along Chicago to Michigan then will operate via Michigan, Ohio to Fairbanks and then resume the regular route south on Fairbanks. From Fairbanks/Ontario, westbound #66 buses will travel via Ontario, Michigan to Chicago and then resume the regular route west along Chicago.
 

#152 Addison Buses Temporarily Detoured at Addison/Wayne for Sewer Project

Beginning at 9 a.m. Wednesday, February 3 through 4 p.m. Friday, February 19, Addison Street will be closed at Wayne Avenue due to a sewer installation project.
 
Eastbound #152 Addison buses will travel over the regular route along Addison to Southport then will operate via Southport, Irving Park, Clark to Addison and then resume the regular route. Westbound #152 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Ongoing Bus Reroutes

#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick Buses Temporarily Detoured Due to Water Main Work

The southbound curb lane of Van Buren is closed between Wells and Franklin until 5 a.m. Saturday, January 30, due to a water main installation project.
 
Southbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses will travel over the regular route along Wells to Adams then will operate via Adams, Wacker to Van Buren and then resume the regular route. Northbound #11 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 

Southbound #36 Broadway and #145 Wilson/Michigan Express Buses Detoured at Van Buren/Wells

Until 10 p.m. Sunday, January 31, southbound #36 Broadway and #145 Wilson/Michigan Express buses are being rerouted from the area of Van Buren/Wells due to construction.
 
Southbound #36 and #145 buses will travel over their regular routes along Van Buren Street to Clark then will operate via Clark, Congress, Wells to Harrison before turning to begin northbound service. Northbound #36 and #145 buses will travel east along Harrison over the regular route.
 

#7 Harrison Bus Stop at Harrison/Ashland Temporarily Relocated

The eastbound near side stop at Harrison/Ashland served by #7 Harrison buses has been relocated to a far side stop until Sunday, January 31.
 

#132 Goose Island Express Bus Stop at Clybourn/North Temporarily Relocated

The northbound near side stop at Clybourn/North served by #132 Goose Island Express buses temporarily has been relocated to a far side stop until 7 p.m. Friday, February 12, due to the temporary closure of the curb lane.
 

#53A South Pulaski Bus Stop at Pulaski/82nd Street Temporarily Relocated

Currently in effect until 7 p.m. Friday, March 12, the southbound bus stop at the T-intersection of Pulaski/82nd Street served by #53A South Pulaski buses has been temporarily relocated to a near side stop at Pulaski/82nd Place, due to a nearby sewer construction project.
 

Temporary Changes to Bus Stops near Sheridan/Foster

Currently in effect until Wednesday, March 17, the northbound near side stop at Sheridan/Foster temporarily has been removed from service due to the demolition and reconstruction of a nearby building. This stop is served by #136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express, #147 Outer Drive Express and #151 Sheridan buses.
 

Reroute for Northbound #24 Wentworth Buses Due to LaSalle Street Bridge Work

LaSalle Street between 28th and 26th streets is closed to all traffic until Wednesday, March 31, due to the reconstruction of the LaSalle Street Bridge.
 
Northbound #24 Wentworth buses will operate over the regular route along LaSalle to 31st Street then will travel via 31st Street, State, 26th Street to Wentworth and then resume the regular route. Southbound #24 buses will travel over the regular route.
 
Changes to #24 Wentworth Bus Stops
Due to the reconstruction of the LaSalle Street Bridge, the following changes made to bus stops served by #24 Wentworth buses also will continue to be in place until Wednesday, March 31:
 
  • LaSalle/31st Street: the northbound far side stop has been relocated to a near side stop.
  • Wentworth/26th Street: the northbound near side stop has been relocated to a westbound near side stop at 26th Street/Wentworth.
 

Lane Restrictions near State and Grand Detour #29 State and #36 Broadway Buses

Due to lane restrictions associated with the Grand/State Red Line rehabilitation project at the northwest corner of State Street and Grand Avenue, #29 State and #36 Broadway buses are being detoured to adjacent streets. These changes in service are expected to remain in place until April.
 
Southbound #29 State buses will operate over the regular route along Grand past State to Clark then will travel via Clark, Illinois to State and then resume the regular route.
 
Northbound #29 buses are able to travel on the remaining open lane along State and will operate over its regular route.
 
Southbound #36 Broadway buses will travel over the regular route along State to Ontario then will operate via Ontario, Clark, Illinois to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along Dearborn past Illinois to Ohio then will travel via Ohio to State and then resume the regular route.
 

Temporary Removal of #66 Chicago Bus Stop

Currently in effect, the eastbound near side stop at Chicago/Clark served by #66 Chicago buses temporarily has been removed from service until Friday, April 30, due to construction.
 

14 CTA Bus Routes Affected Due to Jackson Viaduct Work

Due to the reconstruction of the Jackson Boulevard viaduct between Canal and Wacker, changes in service along 14 CTA bus routes are expected to remain in place until April. The following CTA bus routes are being rerouted to adjacent streets:

Temporary Relocation of #93 California/Dodge Bus Stop

Currently in effect until Thursday, May 27, the southbound curb-side lane of California Avenue at Granville is closed to all traffic due to construction. As a result of this lane closure, the southbound near side stop at California/Granville served by #93 California/Dodge buses temporarily has been relocated approximately 175 feet north.
 

Temporary Removal of #29 State Bus Stop at State/Pershing

Due to an underground construction project, the southbound far side stop at State/Pershing served by #29 State buses has been removed from service until Sunday, May 1, 2011.
