Loop Elevated Trains to Reroute Sunday
Brown, Orange and Pink Line trains will be rerouted this weekend on the Loop elevated tracks while crews work to upgrade signal equipment. Elevated trains that normally travel along the Wells street tracks will be rerouted to the elevated tracks along Lake and Wabash from the start of service Sunday morning through the end of service Sunday night.

Red Line – Slow Zone
Daytime Reroute of Red Line Trains at Sheridan
A daytime reroute will be in effect for Red Line trains operating in both directions at the Sheridan station from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, January 24, while crews replace deteriorated rail ties, tie plates and spikes.
During this time, northbound and southbound Red Line trains will operate on the Purple Express tracks. Customers at the Sheridan station must board and exit trains on the Purple Express side of each platform.
Next Week
From approximately 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. each day beginning Tuesday, January 27 through Friday, January 30, a daytime reroute will be in effect for Red Line trains operating in both directions at the Sheridan station while crews replace deteriorated rail ties, tie plates and spikes.
During these times, northbound and southbound Red Line trains will operate on the Purple Express tracks. Customers at the Sheridan station must board and exit trains on the Purple Express side of each platform.
Blue Line – Other Events Affecting Service
Late Night Single Track in Effect for Blue Line Subway Trains This Weekend
A late night single track will be in effect for northbound Blue Line trains between the LaSalle and Grand stations from 10 p.m. Friday, January 23 until 7 a.m. the following morning due to signal repair work.
Northbound Blue Line customers at the Jackson, Monroe, Washington and Clark/Lake stations must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
Saturday Night – Southbound
From 10 p.m. Saturday, January 24 until 7 a.m. the following morning, a single track will be in effect for southbound Blue Line trains between the Grand and LaSalle stations as crews continue signal repair work.
Southbound Blue Line customers at the Clark/Lake, Washington, Monroe and Jackson stations must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
Sunday Night – Northbound
While crews replace the escalator at the Randolph/Washington station, a single track will be in effect for northbound Blue Line trains between the LaSalle and Grand stations from 9 p.m. Sunday, January 25 until 4 a.m. the following morning.
Northbound Blue Line customers at the Jackson, Monroe, Washington and Clark/Lake stations must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
Red Line – Other Events Affecting Service
Late Night Single Track for Red Line Subway Trains between Roosevelt and Grand
A late night single track will be in effect for northbound Red Line trains between the Roosevelt and Grand stations from 10 p.m. Sunday, January 25 until 4 a.m. the following morning for sewer cleaning in the subway.
Northbound Red Line customers at the Roosevelt, Harrison, Jackson, Monroe and Lake stations must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform during this time.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
Next Week
Sewer cleaning in the Red Line subway will continue during the week from 11 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Monday night, January 26 through Friday morning, January 30. During these times, a single track will be in effect for northbound Red Line trains between the Roosevelt and Grand stations.
Northbound Red Line customers at the Roosevelt, Harrison, Jackson, Monroe and Lake stations must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
Additional Service for Special Events
#19 United Center Express Serves Upcoming Bulls Game
CTA will operate its #19 United Center Express buses for fans heading to the Toronto Raptors versus Bulls basketball game on Friday, January 23. The game begins at 7:30 p.m.
Buses will leave every 10 minutes from Michigan and Randolph starting 90 minutes before the start of the game until the starting time of the game. When the game ends, #19 buses will depart the United Center approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.
#19 buses no longer will make stops along Michigan Avenue north of Randolph, but will continue to make all stops on Madison from Wabash to Clinton. From Clinton, #19 buses run express to the United Center.
After the game, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3. On the return trip, #19 buses operate through downtown east on Washington to Wacker, then head south to Monroe and east to Michigan, making all stops from Jefferson to Michigan before turning north on Michigan and making the final stop at Randolph.
New/Updated Changes in Bus Service
Six Eastbound CTA Bus Routes Temporarily Detoured at Jackson/State
Jackson Boulevard will be closed between State and Wabash from 8 p.m. Thursday, January 22 until 8 a.m. the following morning due to emergency repair work on gas lines. During this time, the following six CTA bus routes will be temporarily detoured: #1 Indiana/Hyde Park, #7 Harrison, #X28 Stony Island Express, #126 Jackson, #129 West Loop/South Loop and #132 Goose Island Express.
Eastbound buses will operate over their regular routes along Jackson to State then will travel via State, Congress, Michigan to Jackson and then resume their regular routes along Michigan Avenue. Westbound service is not affected and buses will travel their regular routes.
CTA Buses Temporarily Rerouted for State Street Bridge Repairs Next Week
The State Street Bridge over the Chicago River will be closed to all traffic from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. each day beginning Monday, January 26 through Wednesday, January 28, due to bridge maintenance and repair work.
Northbound #29 State buses will operate over the regular route along State to Wacker then travel via Wacker, Dearborn, Kinzie to State and then resume the regular route. Southbound #29 buses will operate over the regular route along State to Kinzie then travel via Kinzie, Clark, Wacker to State and then resume the regular route.
Southbound #36 Broadway buses will travel over the regular route along State to Grand then operate via Grand, Clark, Wacker to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
Northbound #62 Archer buses are not affected and will operate over the regular route along Dearborn to Kinzie for end of route and start of southbound service. Southbound #62 buses will travel over the regular route along Dearborn to Kinzie then operate via Kinzie, Clark, Wacker to State and then will resume the regular route.
Ongoing Bus Reroutes
Buses Rerouted on Harrison Due to Construction
Harrison Street between Paulina and Ashland will be closed to all traffic until March 2009, due to construction.
Eastbound #7 Harrison buses will travel over the regular route to Paulina then will operate via Polk, Ashland to Harrison and then resume the regular route.
Eastbound #126 Jackson buses operating during late evenings, weekends and holidays will travel over the regular route to Harrison then will operate via Harrison, Wood, Polk, Ashland to Harrison and then resume the regular route.
#7 Harrison Bus Stop Temporarily Relocated
Until further notice, the westbound mid-block bus stop located at Harrison near Paulina served by the #7 Harrison will be temporarily relocated around the corner on Paulina due to construction.
Bus Stop Relocated Due to Construction at Chestnut and Lake Shore Drive
The bus stop located at Chestnut and Lake Shore Drive served by #10 Museum of Science & Industry and #157 Streeterville buses has been relocated until June 1, 2011, due to construction. Customers must board and exit #157 buses at Inner Lake Shore Drive and Pearson. #10 customers should board on Chestnut between Mies van der Rohe and Michigan or on Michigan southbound at Pearson.
#2 Hyde Park Express and #15 Jeffery Local Buses Rerouted
Buses operating in both directions along the #2 Hyde Park Express and #15 Jeffery Local routes will be detoured until further notice.
Northbound #2 buses will operate over the regular route along Drexel to 47th, then travel via 47th, Woodlawn to 51st and then resume the regular route. Southbound #2 buses will travel the reverse route.
Until further notice, #24 Wentworth buses will be temporarily rerouted to adjacent streets due to sewer repair work at the intersection of Vincennes Avenue and 71st Street.
Until further notice, 130th Street at Indiana Avenue is closed due to viaduct and sewer repair work. Southbound #34 South Michigan buses will travel over the regular route along Michigan to 115th and then operate via 115th, Bishop Ford Expressway, 130th to Langley and then resume the regular route. Northbound #34 buses will travel the reverse route. During this time, bus shuttles will operate along Michigan Avenue between 115th and 127th streets.
Halsted is closed at Root Street from 6 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. and again at 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. each day until further notice, due to construction. Westbound #43 43rd buses will operate over the regular route to Halsted and then will travel via Halsted, 45th Street, Morgan to Exchange and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #43 buses will operate the reverse route.
Until further notice, Laflin Street between Cermak and 21st Place will be closed to all traffic due to construction at Benito Juarez School. Eastbound #60 Blue Island/26th buses will travel over the regular route to Cermak then will operate via Cermak, Loomis, 21st Street then return to Laflin and resume the regular route. Westbound #60 buses will operate the reverse route.
