Yellow Line – Events Affecting Service

Service Temporarily Suspended along the Yellow Line This Weekend

Due to work associated with the construction of the new Oakton Street station, rail service along the Yellow Line will be temporarily suspended on Saturday, January 21 and Sunday, January 22.
 
From 6:15 a.m. until 11:15 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, bus shuttles will operate an express route between the Howard and Skokie stations as a substitute for rail service. The shuttles will depart from the Howard and Skokie stations approximately every 15 minutes. Customers also can take the #97 Skokie as an alternate service option between the two stations.
 
Yellow Line trains will resume operating at their regularly scheduled time on Monday, January 23.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. 
 

Blue Line – Events Affecting Service

Late Night Trains Continue to Operate on Same Tracks in Dearborn Subway

All late night Blue Line trains will be routed to operate on the southbound (to Forest Park) tracks between the Damen and Clark/Lake stations from 10:30 p.m. Friday, January 20 until 6 a.m. the following morning and then again from 10 p.m. Saturday, January 21 until 6 a.m. the following morning, while crews install station lighting.
 
During these times, northbound (to O’Hare) customers at the Grand, Chicago and Division stations must board and exit trains from the southbound (to Forest Park) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 
Next Week
Light installation work continues next week resulting in all Blue Line trains being routed to operate on the southbound (to Forest Park) tracks between the Damen and Clark/Lake stations from 10 p.m. Sunday, January 22 until 4:30 a.m. the following morning and then again from 10:30 p.m. each night until 4:30 a.m. the following morning beginning Monday night, January 23 through Friday morning, January 27.
 
During these times, northbound (to O’Hare) customers at the Grand, Chicago and Division stations must board and exit trains from the southbound (to Forest Park) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Brown Line – Events Affecting Service

UPDATE: Daytime Closure of Main Entrance and Elevator at the Chicago Station Next Week

The main entrance/exit and the street-to-platform elevator to the southbound (to the Loop) platform of the Chicago Brown Line station will be temporarily closed from 10:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. each day beginning Monday, January 23 through Friday, January 27, while crews replace platform decking.
 
During these times, customers will be directed to access the Chicago station using the auxiliary entrance located along Superior Street.
 
Alternate Service for Customers with Disabilities
Customers at the Chicago station who require an elevator to access Brown Line trains will need to board a northbound (to Kimball) train to Sedgwick and transfer to a southbound (to the Loop) train.
 
Brown Line customers traveling to the Chicago Brown Line station who require access to an elevator will need to continue to Merchandise Mart and transfer to a northbound (to Kimball) train.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
 

Temporary Closure of Auxiliary Platform Entrance/Exit at the Paulina Station

The auxiliary entrance/exit to the northbound (to Kimball) platform at the Paulina Brown Line station will be temporarily closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, January 23 and then again during the same hours on Tuesday, January 24, while crews install security panels at the auxiliary entrance/exit.
 
During these times, customers will be directed to use the main station entrance to enter and exit the northbound (to Kimball) platform.
 
Wednesday and Thursday
From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, January 25 and then again during the same hours on Thursday, January 26, the auxiliary entrance/exit to the southbound (to the Loop) platform at the Paulina Brown Line station will be temporarily closed due to crews installing security panels at the auxiliary entrance/exit.
 
During these times, customers will be directed to use the main station entrance to enter and exit the southbound (to the Loop) platform.
 

Red Line – Events Affecting Service

Late Night Boarding Changes in the State Street Subway Next Week

Late night Red Line trains will be routed to operate on the northbound (to Howard) tracks between the Lake and North/Clybourn stations from 10 p.m. Sunday, January 22 until 4 a.m. the following morning, due to sewer cleaning work in the subway.
 
Subway sewer cleaning work will continue during the week resulting in late night trains operating on the northbound (to Howard) tracks between the Lake and North/Clybourn stations from 10:30 p.m. Monday, January 23 until 4 a.m. the following morning and then again from 11 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Tuesday night, January 24 through Friday morning, January 27.
 
During these times, southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) customers at the Clark/Division station must board and exit trains from the northbound (to Howard) side of the platform.
 
Southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) customers at the Chicago and Grand stations must board and exit trains from the northbound (to Howard) platforms.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train. 
 

Special Event Service Details

#19 United Center Express Service to the United Center

CTA will operate its #19 United Center Express for those attending the following events at the United Center this weekend and next week:
 
  • Friday, January 20 at 7:30 p.m. – Florida Panthers versus Blackhawks
  • Saturday, January 21 at 7 p.m. – Charlotte Bobcats versus Bulls
  • Monday, January 23 at 7 p.m. – New Jersey Nets versus Bulls
  • Tuesday, January 24 at 7:30 p.m. – Nashville Predators versus Blackhawks
  • Wednesday, January 25 at 7 p.m. – Indiana Pacers versus Bulls
  • Friday, January 27 at 7 p.m. – Milwaukee Bucks versus Bulls
 
Buses will leave every 12-15 minutes from Michigan and Randolph beginning 90 minutes before the start of each event. After each event, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3 and will depart approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.
 

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

Sunday Morning Helicopter Lift at 30 N. Michigan Ave. Affects 10 Routes

From 9 a.m. until approximately 10:30 a.m. Sunday, January 22, 10 CTA bus routes will be detoured due to the closure of Michigan Avenue between Madison and Randolph and Washington Street between Wabash and Michigan for a helicopter lift.
 
Routes affected are: #3 King Drive, #4 Cottage Grove, #6 Jackson Park Express, #20 Madison, #56 Milwaukee, #60 Blue Island/26th, #124 Navy Pier, #145 Wilson/Michigan Express, #147 Outer Drive Express and #151 Sheridan.
 
Buses will be detoured to adjacent streets to maintain service during this time.
 

Temporary Relocation of #72 North Avenue Bus Stop

From 6 a.m. Monday, January 23 until approximately 6 p.m. Monday, April 23, 2013, the westbound near side stop at North Avenue/Washtenaw will be relocated to a far side stop. This stop is served by #72 North Avenue buses.
 

Ongoing Bus Service Changes 

Temporary Reroute in Effect for #24 Wentworth Buses Operating to 87th/Racine

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Tuesday, January 31, #24 Wentworth buses operating to 87th/Racine are being detoured due to the closure of Vincennes Avenue between 84th Street and Givins for sewer repair work.
 
Southbound #24 buses (operating to 87th/Racine) are traveling over the regular route along Vincennes to 83rd Street then are operating via 83rd Street, Princeton, Holland, 87th Street and are resuming the regular route west on 87th Street past Vincennes. Northbound #24 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

#8 Halsted and #132 Goose Island Express Buses Detoured for Bridge Work

Currently in effect until approximately 6 p.m. Monday, April 30, #8 Halsted and #132 Goose Island Express buses are being detoured due to the closure of the North Halsted Bridge over the north branch of the Chicago River for repair work.
 
Northbound #8 buses are traveling over the regular route along Halsted to Chicago then are operating via Chicago, Larrabee, Division to Halsted and then resuming the regular route. Southbound #8 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 
Southbound #132 buses are operating over the regular route along North Branch to Division then are traveling via Division, Larrabee, Chicago to Halsted and then resuming the regular route. Northbound #132 buses are operating over the regular route along Halsted to Chicago then are traveling via Chicago, Larrabee, Division to Cherry and then resuming the regular route.
 

Service Adjustments Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project

Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project, Franklin Street between Harrison and Van Buren and Lower Wacker Drive between Randolph and Harrison are closed until May. As a result of these closures and other street reconfigurations, the following changes in bus service currently are in effect: 
 
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
Northbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses are traveling over the regular route along Harrison to Canal then are operating via Canal, Jackson to Franklin and resuming the regular route. Southbound #11 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes also have been made to bus stops served by northbound #11 buses:
 
  • Canal/Harrison: a far side stop has been added to service.
  • Canal/Jackson: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Jackson at the Chicago River: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • 404 W. Harrison: the mid-block stop has been removed from service.
  • Franklin/Van Buren: the far side stop has been removed from service.
 
#121 Union/Wacker Express
Northbound #121 Union/Wacker Express buses are operating over the regular route along Jackson past Wacker to Franklin then are traveling via Franklin, Lake, Post Place to Lower Wacker and then resuming the regular route.
 
Southbound #121 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand to Wabash then traveling via Wabash, Wacker, Franklin to Adams and then resuming the regular route.
 
#135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express buses are traveling south on Wacker to Jackson then are traveling east on Jackson past Franklin and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #135 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express buses are operating south on Wacker to Van Buren then are traveling via Van Buren, Canal to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #136 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#156 LaSalle (PM Service Only)
During the evening rush period only, northbound #156 LaSalle buses departing from Union Station are traveling west on Van Buren to Wacker then are operating via Wacker to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary bus stop change has been made and is in effect for northbound #156 buses during the evening rush period only: 
 
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 

Temporary Removal of #29 State Bus Stop at State/Pershing

Currently in effect until Friday, June 1, the southbound far side stop at State/Pershing has been removed from service due to nearby construction work. Customers are advised to board southbound #29 buses one block south at 40th Street.
 

Temporary Removal of Bus Stop at Archer/Cicero

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Monday, June 6, the southbound far side bus stop at Archer/Cicero will be temporarily removed from service due to the demolition of a nearby building. This stop is currently served by #62 Archer and #62H Archer/Harlem buses.
 
During this time, customers can board southbound #62 buses at the existing near side stop at Archer/Cicero. Southbound #62H buses will serve the existing stop located at Archer/Lamon.
 

Wacker Drive Stage III Work Affecting 18 Downtown CTA Bus Routes

Currently in effect, 18 CTA bus routes that operate in the downtown area near Adams and Monroe streets at Wacker Drive are operating under temporary service changes, due to work associated with Stage III of the Wacker Drive construction project.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time along these routes:

#7 Harrison
#129 West Loop/South Loop (PM Service Only)
#14 Jeffery Express
#130 Museum Campus (Operates Mid-May – Labor Day)

#120 Ogilvie/Wacker Express

With the re-opening of Madison Street at Wacker Drive, #19 United Center Express, #20 Madison, #56 Milwaukee and #122 Illinois Center/Ogilvie Express buses have returned to their original routing.

Temporary Relocation of Bus Stop at Lake Park/53rd Street

Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Thursday, May 2, 2013, the southbound near side stop at Lake Park/53rd Street has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction work. This stop is served by #6 Jackson Park Express, #X28 Stony Island Express and #171 U of C/Hyde Park buses.
 

Relocation of #36 Broadway Bus Stop Due to Nearby Construction

Currently in effect until Friday, July 12, 2013, the southbound near side stop at Broadway/Elmdale served by #36 Broadway buses has been relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction.
 

Removal of Bus Stop Change Affects Five Routes

Currently in effect until Thursday, August 1, 2013, the mid-block bus stop located at 5800 South on Stony Island has been temporarily removed due to construction. This stop is served by the #2 Hyde Park Express, #6 Jackson Park Express, #15 Jeffery Local, #28 Stony Island and #X28 Stony Island Express buses.
