Brown Line – Events Affecting Service
Daytime Closure of Auxiliary Entrance to the Chicago Station on Monday
The Superior Street auxiliary entrance/exit to the northbound (to Kimball) Chicago Brown Line station will be temporarily closed from 10:40 a.m. until 3 p.m. Monday, February 27, while crews replace platform decking.
During these times, northbound (to Kimball) customers will be directed to access the Chicago station using the main entrance located along Chicago Avenue.
Daytime Closure of Main Entrance and Elevator at the Chicago Station
The main entrance/exit and the street-to-platform elevator to the northbound (to Kimball) platform of the Chicago Brown Line station will be temporarily closed from 10:40 a.m. until 3 p.m. each day beginning Tuesday, February 28 through Friday, March 2, while crews replace platform decking.
During these times, customers will be directed to access the Chicago station using the auxiliary entrance located along Superior Street.
Alternate Service for Customers with Disabilities
Customers at the Chicago station who require an elevator to access Brown Line trains will need to take a southbound (to the Loop) train to Merchandise Mart and transfer to a northbound (to Kimball) train.
Brown Line customers traveling to the Chicago Brown Line station who require access to an elevator will need to continue to Sedgwick and transfer to a southbound (to the Loop) train.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
Red Line – Events Affecting Service
Late Night Single Track Operation between North/Clybourn and Grand
All late night Red Line trains will be routed to operate on the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) tracks between the North/Clybourn and Grand stations from 11 p.m. Sunday, February 26 until 4 a.m. the following morning and then again from 11 p.m. Monday, February 27 until 4 a.m. the following morning, as sewer cleaning work continues in the subway.
Northbound (to Howard) customers at the Grand and Chicago stations must board and exit trains from the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) platform.
Northbound (to Howard) customers at the Clark/Division station must board and exit trains from the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) side of the platform.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
Late Night Boarding Changes at North/Clybourn Next Week
From 11 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Tuesday night, February 28 through Friday morning, March 2, all late night Red Line trains will be routed to operate on the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) tracks at the North/Clybourn station due to sewer cleaning in the subway.
Customers at the North/Clybourn station traveling northbound (to Howard) must board and exit trains from the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) platform.
CTA operators will announce the direction of each train. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
Special Event Service Details
#19 United Center Express Service to the United Center
CTA will operate its #19 United Center Express for those attending the following events at the United Center this weekend and next week:
- Friday, February 24 at 7:30 p.m. – Van Halen concert
- Sunday, February 26 at 2 p.m. – Saviours’ Day 2012 event
- Tuesday, February 28 at 7 p.m. – New Orleans Hornets versus Bulls
- Wednesday, February 29 at 7 p.m. – Toronto Maple Leafs versus Blackhawks
Buses will leave every 12-15 minutes from Michigan and Randolph beginning 90 minutes before the start of each event. After each event, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3 and will depart approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.
New/Updated Changes in Bus Service
NEW: Gas Line Repair Work Detours Westbound #7 Harrison Buses
Currently in effect until approximately 6 p.m. Wednesday, February 29, #7 Harrison buses are being detoured due to the closure of the westbound lanes of Harrison at California for emergency gas line repair work.
Westbound #7 buses are operating over the regular route along Harrison to California then are traveling via California, Van Buren, Sacramento to Harrison and then resuming the regular route. Eastbound #7 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
NEW: Five Southbound Routes Detoured From State Street Due to a Crane Lift
Currently in effect until approximately 5 a.m. Monday, March 5, the southbound lanes of State Street between Harrison and Balbo will be closed to all traffic due to a crane lift. This work is affecting southbound #2 Hyde Park Express, #6 Jackson Park Express, #29 State, #62 Archer and #146 Marine/Michigan Express buses.
Southbound #2 and #6, buses are traveling over their regular routes along State to Harrison then are operating via Harrison, Wabash to Balbo and then resuming their regular routes. Northbound #2 and #6 buses are not affected and are traveling over their regular routes.
Southbound #29, #62 and #146 buses are operating over their regular routes along State to Harrison then are traveling via Harrison, Clark, Polk to State and then resuming their regular routes. Northbound #29, #62 and #146 buses are not affected and are traveling over their regular routes.
Sewer Repair Work to Detour Eastbound #63 63rd Buses Late Tuesday Night
From 11 p.m. Tuesday, February 28 until approximately 6 a.m. Wednesday, February 29, eastbound #63 63rd buses will be detoured due to the closure of the eastbound lanes of 63rd Street between Wentworth and State for sewer repair work.
Eastbound #63 buses will operate over the regular route along 63rd Street to Wentworth then will travel via Wentworth, 59th Street, State to 63rd Street and then resume the regular route. Westbound #63 buses will not be affected and will travel over the regular route.
Temporary Weekend Detour of #151 Sheridan Buses Near Union Station
From 8 a.m. until approximately 8 p.m. Saturday, February 25, #151 Sheridan buses will be detoured due to the closure of the bus lane on Adams between Clinton and Canal for fiber optic installation work.
Southbound #151 buses will travel over the regular route along Clinton past Adams to Jackson then will operate via Jackson to Canal before beginning northbound service. From Jackson/Canal, northbound #151 buses will travel east on Jackson over the regular route.
Helicopter Lift Detours #36 Broadway Buses Saturday Morning
From 8 a.m. until approximately 9 a.m. Saturday, February 25, #36 Broadway buses will be detoured due to the closure of State Street between Cedar and Oak for a scheduled helicopter lift.
Southbound #36 buses will travel over the regular route along Clark past Division to Chicago then will operate via Chicago to State and then resume the regular route.
Northbound #36 buses will travel over the regular route along State to Chicago then will operate via Chicago, Dearborn, Walton to Clark and then resume the regular route.
Ongoing Bus Service Changes
Sewer Work Near 87th Street/Buffalo Detours Eastbound #87 87th Buses
Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Wednesday, February 29, eastbound #87 87th buses are being detoured due to the closure of S. Buffalo Avenue between 87th and 88th streets for sewer work.
Eastbound #87 buses are traveling over the regular route along 87th Street to Buffalo then are operating via 87th Street, Mackinaw, 89th Street to Buffalo and then resume the regular route. Westbound #87 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
Water Main Work Temporarily Detours Westbound #96 Lunt Buses
Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Monday, April 16, westbound #96 Lunt buses are being detoured due to the closure of the westbound lanes of Lunt Avenue between Sheridan and Ashland for water main installation work.
Westbound #96 buses are traveling over the regular route along Morse to Sheridan then are operating via Sheridan, Pratt, Ashland to Lunt and then resuming the regular route. Eastbound #96 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
#8 Halsted and #132 Goose Island Express Buses Detoured for Bridge Work
Currently in effect until approximately 6 p.m. Monday, April 30, #8 Halsted and #132 Goose Island Express buses are being detoured due to the closure of the North Halsted Bridge over the north branch of the Chicago River for repair work.
Northbound #8 buses are traveling over the regular route along Halsted to Chicago then are operating via Chicago, Larrabee, Division to Halsted and then resuming the regular route. Southbound #8 buses are traveling the reverse route.
Southbound #132 buses are operating over the regular route along North Branch to Division then are traveling via Division, Larrabee, Chicago to Halsted and then resuming the regular route. Northbound #132 buses are operating over the regular route along Halsted to Chicago then are traveling via Chicago, Larrabee, Division to Cherry and then resuming the regular route.
Service Adjustments Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project
Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project, Franklin Street between Harrison and Van Buren and Lower Wacker Drive between Randolph and Harrison are closed until May. As a result of these closures and other street reconfigurations, the following changes in bus service currently are in effect:
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
Northbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses are traveling over the regular route along Harrison to Canal then are operating via Canal, Jackson to Franklin and resuming the regular route. Southbound #11 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
The following temporary changes also have been made to bus stops served by northbound #11 buses:
- Canal/Harrison: a far side stop has been added to service.
- Canal/Jackson: a near side stop has been added to service.
- Jackson at the Chicago River: a near side stop has been added to service.
- 404 W. Harrison: the mid-block stop has been removed from service.
- Franklin/Van Buren: the far side stop has been removed from service.
#121 Union/Wacker Express
Northbound #121 Union/Wacker Express buses are operating over the regular route along Jackson past Wacker to Franklin then are traveling via Franklin, Lake, Post Place to Lower Wacker and then resuming the regular route.
Southbound #121 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand to Wabash then traveling via Wabash, Wacker, Franklin to Adams and then resuming the regular route.
#135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express buses are traveling south on Wacker to Jackson then are traveling east on Jackson past Franklin and resuming the regular route.
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #135 buses:
- Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
- Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
#136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express buses are operating south on Wacker to Van Buren then are traveling via Van Buren, Canal to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #136 buses:
- Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
- Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
#156 LaSalle (PM Service Only)
During the evening rush period only, northbound #156 LaSalle buses departing from Union Station are traveling west on Van Buren to Wacker then are operating via Wacker to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
The following temporary bus stop change has been made and is in effect for northbound #156 buses during the evening rush period only:
- Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
Temporary Removal of #29 State Bus Stop at State/Pershing
Currently in effect until Friday, June 1, the southbound far side stop at State/Pershing has been removed from service due to nearby construction work. Customers are advised to board southbound #29 buses one block south at 40th Street.
Wacker Drive Stage III Work Affecting 18 Downtown CTA Bus Routes
Currently in effect, 18 CTA bus routes that operate in the downtown area near Adams and Monroe streets at Wacker Drive are operating under temporary service changes, due to work associated with Stage III of the Wacker Drive construction project.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time along these routes:

With the re-opening of Madison Street at Wacker Drive, #19 United Center Express, #20 Madison, #56 Milwaukee and #122 Illinois Center/Ogilvie Express buses have returned to their original routing.
Temporary Removal of Bus Stop at Archer/Cicero
Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Monday, June 6, the southbound far side bus stop at Archer/Cicero will be temporarily removed from service due to the demolition of a nearby building. This stop is currently served by #62 Archer and #62H Archer/Harlem buses.
During this time, customers can board southbound #62 buses at the existing near side stop at Archer/Cicero. Southbound #62H buses will serve the existing stop located at Archer/Lamon.
Temporary Relocation of #72 North Avenue Bus Stop
Currently in effect until approximately 6 p.m. Monday, April 23, 2013, the westbound near side stop at North Avenue/Washtenaw has been relocated to a far side stop. This stop is served by #72 North Avenue buses.
Temporary Relocation of Bus Stop at Lake Park/53rd Street
Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Thursday, May 2, 2013, the southbound near side stop at Lake Park/53rd Street has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction work. This stop is served by #6 Jackson Park Express, #X28 Stony Island Express and #171 U of C/Hyde Park buses.
Relocation of #36 Broadway Bus Stop Due to Nearby Construction
Currently in effect until Friday, July 12, 2013, the southbound near side stop at Broadway/Elmdale served by #36 Broadway buses has been relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction.
Removal of Bus Stop Change Affects Five Routes
Currently in effect until Thursday, August 1, 2013, the mid-block bus stop located at 5800 South Stony Island has been temporarily removed due to construction. This stop is served by the #2 Hyde Park Express, #6 Jackson Park Express, #15 Jeffery Local, #28 Stony Island and #X28 Stony Island Express buses.
