Red Line – Slow Zone Work

Red Line Subway Trains to Undergo Late Night Reroute to Elevated Tracks This Weekend and Next Week

Late night service on the Red Line between the Fullerton and Cermak-Chinatown stations will be temporarily rerouted from the subway to the elevated tracks in order for crews to perform follow-up work associated with the slow zone elimination project.

Daytime Reroute of Red Line Trains at Sheridan Next Week

A daytime reroute will be in effect for Red Line trains operating in both directions at the Sheridan station from approximately 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. each day beginning Tuesday, February 24 through Friday, February 27, while crews replace deteriorated rail ties, tie plates and spikes.
 
During this time, northbound and southbound Red Line trains will operate on the Purple Express tracks. Customers at the Sheridan station must board and exit trains from the outer platforms instead of the inner platforms.
 

Blue Line – Slow Zone Work

Late Night Single Track in Effect at the Cumberland Blue Line Station on Friday

A late night single track will be in effect for northbound Blue Line trains at the Cumberland station from 10 p.m. Friday, February 20 until 7 a.m. the following morning. 
 
Northbound Blue Line customers at the Cumberland station must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Late Night Single Track in Effect at the Cumberland Blue Line Station Next Week

A late night single track will be in effect for southbound Blue Line trains at the Rosemont station next week from 8 p.m. until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Monday night, February 23 through Thursday morning, February 26.  
 
Southbound Blue Line customers at the Rosemont station must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Late Night Single Track at the Cumberland Blue Line Station on Thursday

A late night single track will be in effect for northbound Blue Line trains between the Cumberland and Rosemont stations next week from 8 p.m. Thursday, February 26 until 4 a.m. the following morning. 
 
Northbound Blue Line customers at the Cumberland station must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Blue Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Late Night Single Track in Effect for Blue Line Subway Trains on Saturday

A late night single track will be in effect for northbound Blue Line trains between the LaSalle and Grand stations from 10 p.m. Saturday, February 21 until 7 a.m. the following morning due to escalator repair work.
 
Northbound Blue Line customers at the Jackson, Monroe, Washington and Clark/Lake stations must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Brown Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Single Track in Effect for Brown Line Trains between Southport and Addison

A daytime single track will be in effect for northbound Brown Line trains between the Southport and Addison stations from 5:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 22, while crews work on the Paulina station as part of the Brown Line Capacity Expansion project.
 
Northbound Brown Line customers at the Southport and Addison stations must board and exit trains from the southbound platform.
 
CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Additional Service for Special Events

CTA Provides Service to McCormick Place for 2009 Chicago Auto Show

Chicago Transit Authority bus routes are a convenient travel option for those heading to the 2009 Chicago Auto Show at McCormick Place North and South through Sunday, February 22. Bus service is available during all hours the show is open.

#19 United Center Express Serves Upcoming Events

CTA will operate its #19 United Center Express buses on the following dates and times:
 
  • Friday, February 20 at 7:30 p.m. – Denver Nuggets versus Bulls
  • Saturday, February 21 at 7:30 p.m. – World’s Toughest Rodeo
  • Sunday, February 22 at 6 p.m. – Minnesota Wild versus Blackhawks
  • Tuesday, February 24 at 7 p.m. – Orlando Magic versus Bulls
 
Buses will leave every 10 minutes from Michigan and Randolph beginning 90 minutes before the start of the event until the starting time of the event. When the event ends, #19 buses will depart the United Center approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.
 
#19 buses no longer make stops along Michigan Avenue north of Randolph, but continue to make all stops on Madison from Wabash to Clinton. From Clinton, #19 buses run express to the United Center.
 
After the event, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3. On the return trip, #19 buses will operate east on Washington to Wacker, then head south to Monroe and east to Michigan, making all stops from Jefferson to Michigan before turning north on Michigan and making the final stop at Randolph.
 

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

Route Changes for #145 Wilson/Michigan Express and #148 Clarendon/Michigan Express Buses

Effective immediately, the #145 Wilson/Michigan Express and #148 Clarendon/Michigan Express buses will be routed between Damen Avenue and East Ravenswood until further notice. This reroute will affect those traveling to/from the Damen Brown Line station.
 
Northbound #145 and #148 buses will operate over their regular routes along Wilson to East Ravenswood for end of route and start of southbound service. Southbound #145 and #148 buses will travel via East Ravenswood, Lawrence, Ashland to Wilson and then resume their regular routes.
 
Operators will inform customers of the changes in routing and customer alerts have been posted.
 

Nightly Closures of Michigan Avenue Bridge This Weekend and Next Week

Due to construction work, the Michigan Avenue Bridge at Wacker Drive will be closed to all traffic this weekend from 12:01 a.m. until 8 a.m. Saturday morning, February 21 and then again from 12:01 a.m. to 8 a.m. Sunday morning, February 22.
 
Next Week
Nightly closures of the Michigan Avenue Bridge will continue during the week to allow crews to continue construction work. The Michigan Avenue Bridge will be closed from 10 p.m. each night until 6 a.m. the following morning beginning Monday, February 23 through Friday, February 27.
 
During these times, five CTA bus routes will be temporarily detoured.
 
Northbound #3 King Drive, #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express, #147 Outer Drive Express and #151 Sheridan buses will operate over their regular routes along Michigan Avenue to Wacker then will travel via Wacker, Dearborn, Ohio to Michigan and then will resume their regular routes.
 
Southbound #3, #146, #147 and #151 buses will travel over their regular routes along Michigan to Ontario then will operate via Ontario, Clark, Wacker to Michigan and then will resume their regular routes.
 
Eastbound #66 Chicago (Owl) buses will operate over the regular route along Chicago to Fairbanks then will travel via Fairbanks, Columbus, South Water to Michigan and then will resume the regular route. Westbound #66 buses will travel the reverse route. 
 

Southbound #14 Jeffery Express Buses Temporarily Rerouted This Weekend

Beginning at 12:01 a.m. Saturday morning, February 21 until 5 a.m. Monday, February 23, Monroe Street will be closed between Wabash and Michigan.
 
Southbound #14 Jeffery Express buses will travel over the regular route along Monroe to State then will operate via State, Jackson to Michigan and then will resume the regular route.
 
#10 Museum of Science & Industry and #125 Water Tower Express Buses Temporarily Detoured on Saturday
On Saturday, February 21 from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Chicago Avenue west of Mies van der Rohe will be closed to all traffic due to construction work
 
Northbound #10 Museum of Science & Industry and #125 Water Tower Express buses will operate over their regular routes along Michigan Avenue past Chicago Avenue to Pearson then will travel via Pearson to Mies van der Rohe and then will resume their regular routes.
 

#66 Chicago Buses Detoured Next Week due to Chicago Avenue Bridge Repairs

The Chicago Avenue Bride over the Chicago River will be closed to all traffic due to repair work next week from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. each day beginning Monday, February 23 through Friday, February 27.
 
Eastbound #66 Chicago buses will operate over the regular route along Chicago Avenue to Halsted then will travel via Halsted, Division, Crosby, Larrabee to Chicago and then will resume the regular route. Westbound #66 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Changes to CTA Bus Stops

The following changes to CTA bus stops will go into effect on Tuesday, February 24 at the start of service:
 
New Bus Stop for Eastbound #2 and #66 Buses
Eastbound #2 Hyde Park Express and #66 Chicago buses will serve the new bus stop located on the far side of Illinois Street at Columbus.
 
Relocation of #12 Roosevelt Bus Stop
The bus stop located on westbound 16th Street at Michigan served by #12 Roosevelt buses will be relocated around the corner along northbound Michigan Avenue at 16th Street.
 
Bus Stop at State/Hubbard Reinstated
Southbound #29 State and #62 Archer buses will resume making service stops at the near side bus stop located on State Street at Hubbard.
 
New AM Rush Period Bus Stop for Northbound #129 Buses
Northbound #129 West Loop/South Loop buses will serve the new bus stop located on the far side of State Street at 18th Street during the morning rush period only.
 

Ongoing Bus Reroutes

Buses Rerouted on Harrison Due to Construction

Harrison Street between Paulina and Ashland will be closed to all traffic until March 2009, due to construction.
 
Eastbound #7 Harrison buses will travel over the regular route to Paulina then will operate via Polk, Ashland to Harrison and then resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #126 Jackson buses operating during late evenings, weekends and holidays will travel over the regular route to Harrison then will operate via Harrison, Wood, Polk, Ashland to Harrison and then resume the regular route.
 
#7 Harrison Bus Stop Temporarily Relocated
Until further notice, the westbound mid-block bus stop located at Harrison near Paulina served by the #7 Harrison will be temporarily relocated around the corner on Paulina due to construction.
 

Bus Stop Relocated Due to Construction at Chestnut and Lake Shore Drive

The bus stop located at Chestnut and Lake Shore Drive served by #10 Museum of Science & Industry and #157 Streeterville buses has been relocated due to construction. Customers must board and exit #157 buses at Inner Lake Shore Drive and Pearson. #10 customers should board on Chestnut between Mies van der Rohe and Michigan or on Michigan southbound at Pearson.
 

#24 Wentworth Buses Temporarily Rerouted Due to Sewer Repair Work

Until further notice, #24 Wentworth buses will be temporarily rerouted to adjacent streets due to sewer repair work at the intersection of Vincennes Avenue and 71st Street.
 

#34 South Michigan Buses Temporarily Rerouted Due to Construction

Until further notice, 130th Street at Indiana Avenue is closed due to viaduct and sewer repair work. Southbound #34 South Michigan buses will travel over the regular route along Michigan to 115th and then operate via 115th, Bishop Ford Expressway, 130th to Langley and then resume the regular route. Northbound #34 buses will travel the reverse route. During this time, bus shuttles will operate along Michigan Avenue between 115th and 127th streets.
 

#43 43rd Buses Rerouted Due to Construction

Halsted is closed at Root Street from 6 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. and again at 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. each day until further notice, due to construction. Westbound #43 43rd buses will operate over the regular route to Halsted and then will travel via Halsted, 45th Street, Morgan to Exchange and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #43 buses will operate the reverse route.
 

#60 Blue Island/26th Buses Rerouted Due to Street Closure

Until further notice, Laflin Street between Cermak and 21st Place will be closed to all traffic due to construction at Benito Juarez School. Eastbound #60 Blue Island/26th buses will travel over the regular route to Cermak then will operate via Cermak, Loomis, 21st Street then return to Laflin and resume the regular route. Westbound #60 buses will operate the reverse route.
