Blue Line – Events Affecting Service
Late Night Trains Continue to Operate on Same Track in Dearborn Subway
All late night Blue Line trains will be routed to operate on the same tracks between the Damen and Clark/Lake stations each night this weekend and next week while crews paint tunnel walls as part of the CTA Station Renewal program.
Friday Night – Affecting Southbound (to Forest Park) Trains
From 10:30 p.m. Friday, December 16 until 6 a.m. the following morning¸ southbound (to Forest Park) customers at the Division, Chicago and Grand stations must board and exit trains from the northbound (to O’Hare) side of the platform.
Saturday Night – Affecting Northbound (to O’Hare) Trains
From 10 p.m. Saturday, December 17 until 6 a.m. the following morning, northbound (to O’Hare) customers at the Grand, Chicago and Division stations must board and exit trains from the southbound (to Forest Park) side of the platform.
Sunday Night – Affecting Southbound (to Forest Park) Trains
From 10 p.m. Sunday, December 18 until 4 a.m. the following morning¸ southbound (to Forest Park) customers at the Division, Chicago and Grand stations must board and exit trains from the northbound (to O’Hare) side of the platform.
Monday and Tuesday Nights – Affecting Northbound (to O’Hare) Trains
From 10:30 p.m. Monday, December 19 until 4 a.m. the following morning and then again from 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 20 until 4 a.m. the following morning, northbound (to O’Hare) customers at the Grand, Chicago and Division stations must board and exit trains from the southbound (to Forest Park) side of the platform.
Wednesday and Thursday Nights – Affecting Southbound (to Forest Park) Trains
From 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 21 until 4 a.m. the following morning and then again from 10:30 p.m. Thursday, December 22 until 4 a.m. the following morning¸ southbound (to Forest Park) customers at the Division, Chicago and Grand stations must board and exit trains from the northbound (to O’Hare) side of the platform.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
Brown Line – Events Affecting Service
Daytime Closure of Auxiliary Entrance to the Chicago Station Early Next Week
The Superior Street auxiliary entrance/exit to the southbound (to the Loop) Chicago Brown Line station will be temporarily closed from 10:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. each day beginning Monday December 19 through Wednesday, December 21, while crews replace platform decking.
During these times, customers will be directed to access the Chicago Station using the main entrance located along Chicago Avenue.
Red Line – Events Affecting Service
Late Night Boarding Changes at North/Clybourn Next Week Due to Sewer Cleaning
Late night Red Line trains will be routed to operate on the northbound (to Howard) tracks at the North/Clybourn station beginning Sunday night, December 18 and continuing each night next week due to sewer cleaning.
Sunday Night
From 10 p.m. Sunday, December 18 until 4 a.m. the following morning, southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) customers must board and exit trains from the northbound (to Howard) platform.
Monday through Thursday Each Night
From 10:30 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Monday night, December 19 through Friday morning, December 23, southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) customers must board and exit trains from the northbound (to Howard) platform.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
Special Event Service Details
CTA Holiday Train
Now in its 20th year, the festive CTA Holiday Train is in operation spreading holiday cheer to CTA customers as part of regular service. Normal CTA fares apply.
The train operates from approximately 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. on weekends and from approximately 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. on select weekdays (schedules for each individual line will vary), and will make stops at all stations along the respective routes.

Holiday Hours in Effect on #10 Museum of Science & Industry Bus Route
With the exception of Saturday, December 24, hours of operation along the #10 Museum of Science & Industry route will be extended on select dates through Friday, December 31, 2011.
The Museum of Science & Industry will offer extended hours – open from 9:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from 11 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. on Sundays – on the following dates:
- Saturday, December 17 through Friday, December 23
- Monday, December 26 through Saturday, December 31
The museum is closed on Christmas Day, Sunday, December 25.
On the dates listed above, service on the #10 will begin operating from Chestnut/Mies van der Rohe each morning approximately 30 minutes prior to the Museum of Science & Industry opening and the last bus departs from the museum approximately 30 minutes after closing.
#19 United Center Express Serves Upcoming Events at the United Center
CTA will operate its #19 United Center Express for those attending the following events at the United Center this weekend and next week:
- Friday, December 16 at 7:30 p.m. – Anaheim Ducks versus Blackhawks
- Saturday, December 17 at 4 p.m. – University of Illinois Men’s Basketball Game
- Sunday, December 18 at 6 p.m. – Calgary Flames versus Blackhawks
- Tuesday, December 20 at 7 p.m. – Indiana Pacers versus Bulls (preseason game)
- Wednesday, December 21 at 6:30 p.m. – Montreal Canadiens versus Blackhawks
Buses will leave every 12-15 minutes from Michigan and Randolph beginning 90 minutes before the start of each event. After each event, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3 and will depart approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.
Temporary Changes in Service for #19 Buses
Due to the closure of some downtown streets for Stage II of the Wacker Drive construction project, the following service changes are in effect along the #19 route:
Eastbound #19 buses are no longer being rerouted and have resumed traveling east on Washington over the regular route. The following changes have been made to bus stops served by eastbound buses:
- Monroe/Canal: the temporary eastbound far side stop has been removed from service.
- Washington/Canal: buses have resumed serving the eastbound near side stop.
- Washington/Franklin: the eastbound near side stop has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop.
- Washington/State: buses have resumed serving the eastbound far side stop.
Westbound #19 buses are being detoured and are traveling over the regular route along Madison to Franklin then operating via Franklin to Randolph and resuming the regular route. The following changes have been made to stops served by westbound buses:
- Madison/Wacker: the westbound far side stop has been temporarily removed from service.
- Madison/Clinton: the westbound near side stop has been temporarily removed from service.
- Randolph/Wacker: buses are serving the westbound near side stop.
- Randolph/Canal: buses are serving the westbound near side stop.
- Randolph/Jefferson: buses are serving the new westbound near side stop.
CTA Provides Service for the Seahawks versus Bears Game this Sunday
Fans heading to the Seattle Seahawks versus Bears game on Sunday, December 18, will find the #128 Soldier Field Express and #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express buses provide affordable and convenient travel options. Kickoff is at noon.
The #128 Soldier Field Express operates non-stop between the Ogilvie Transportation Center, Union Station and Soldier Field. Service will begin at approximately 9:30 a.m. After the game, buses will leave Soldier Field every few minutes for approximately one hour.
The cash fare for #128 buses is $1 for full-fare customers and 50 cents for reduced-fare customers. Exact fare is required. Customers who use CTA fare media on the #128 will be charged a regular CTA bus fare.
In addition, Red, Orange and Green line trains serve customers traveling to and from Soldier Field via the Roosevelt station a few blocks west of the stadium.
Buses Rerouted
In anticipation of heavy traffic along Roosevelt and Lake Shore Drive due to the football game at Soldier Field, the #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express will be detoured from 10:30 a.m. until approximately 4:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Southbound #146 buses will travel over the regular route along Columbus to Lake Shore Drive then will operate via Lake Shore Drive, 18th Street to Museum Campus Drive and then resume the regular route.
Northbound #146 buses will travel over the regular route along Museum Campus Drive to Waldron then will operate via Waldron, Lake Shore Drive to Columbus and then resume the regular route.
New/Temporary Changes in Bus Service
Changes to #21 Cermak Bus Stops
Currently in effect, the following changes have been made to bus stops served by #21 Cermak buses:
- Cermak/Carpenter: the westbound far side stop has been returned to service.
- Cermak/May: the westbound near side stop has been removed from service.
- Cermak/Loomis: the westbound near side stop has been relocated to a far side stop.
Emergency Water Main Repairs Detouring #103 West 103rd Buses
Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Sunday, December 18, #103 West 103rd buses are being rerouted due to the closure of 103rd Street between Longwood and Hoyne for emergency water main repair work.
Westbound #103 buses are traveling over the regular route along 103rd Street to Longwood then are operating via Longwood, 99th Street, Western to 103rd Street and then resuming the regular route. Eastbound #103 buses are traveling the reverse route.
Ongoing Bus Service Changes
Temporary Reroute of #26 South Shore Express and #30 South Chicago Buses for Bridge Repairs
Currently in effect until approximately 3 p.m. Thursday, December 22, #26 South Shore Express and #30 South Chicago buses are being detoured due to the closure of the 92nd Street (Ewing) Bridge over the Calumet River for bridge repair work.
Southbound #26 and #30 buses are operating over their regular routes along 91st Street to Mackinaw then are traveling via Mackinaw, Harbor, South Chicago, 95th Street to Ewing and then resuming their regular routes. Northbound #26 and #30 buses are traveling the reverse route.
Changes in Service along #8 Halsted Route for Bridge Reconstruction Project
Currently in effect until late-December 2011, Halsted Street between Division and the north branch of the Chicago River is closed due to a bridge reconstruction project.
Northbound #8 Halsted buses are traveling over the regular route along Halsted past Chicago to North Branch then are operating via North Branch, Cherry, Division to Halsted and then resuming the regular route. Southbound #8 buses are traveling the reverse route.
Changes to Bus Stops
- Halsted/North Branch: the northbound far side stop on Halsted has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop on North Branch at Halsted.
- Halsted/Division: the southbound far side stop has been temporarily relocated to a near side stop.
Temporary Bus Stop Changes due to Madison Street Viaduct Project
Currently in effect until approximately 3 p.m. Saturday, December 31, the following bus stop changes are in effect due to the Madison Street viaduct project. These changes are affecting service along seven routes.
- Canal/Madison: the northbound far side stop will be removed from service. This stop is served by #60 Blue Island/26th, #124 Navy Pier, #125 Water Tower Express, #129 West Loop/South Loop (PM service only), #130 Museum Campus, #132 Goose Island Express and #157 Streeterville/Taylor buses.
- Canal/Washington: a temporary northbound near side stop will be added. This stop will be served by #132 buses.
Temporary Reroute in Effect for #24 Wentworth Buses Operating to 87th/Racine
Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Tuesday, January 31, 2012, #24 Wentworth buses operating to 87th/Racine are being detoured due to the closure of Vincennes Avenue between 84th Street and Givins for sewer repair work.
Southbound #24 buses (operating to 87th/Racine) are traveling over the regular route along Vincennes to 83rd Street then are operating via 83rd Street, Princeton, Holland, 87th Street and are resuming the regular route west on 87th Street past Vincennes. Northbound #24 buses are traveling the reverse route.
Service Changes to 14 Downtown Bus Routes for Stage II of Wacker Drive Project
Currently in effect, changes in service have been made to 14 CTA bus routes that operate in the downtown area near Wacker Drive and Madison due to work associated with Stage II of the Wacker Drive construction project.
Construction on Wacker Drive will result in changes along the following routes:

Service Adjustments Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project
Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project, Franklin Street between Harrison and Van Buren and Lower Wacker Drive between Randolph and Harrison are closed until May 2012. As a result of these closures and other street reconfigurations, the following changes in bus service currently are in effect:
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
Northbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses are traveling over the regular route along Harrison to Canal then are operating via Canal, Jackson to Franklin and resuming the regular route. Southbound #11 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
The following temporary changes also have been made to bus stops served by northbound #11 buses:
- Canal/Harrison: a far side stop has been added to service.
- Canal/Jackson: a near side stop has been added to service.
- Jackson at the Chicago River: a near side stop has been added to service.
- 404 W. Harrison: the mid-block stop has been removed from service.
- Franklin/Van Buren: the far side stop has been removed from service.
#121 Union/Wacker Express
Northbound #121 Union/Wacker Express buses are operating over the regular route along Jackson past Wacker to Franklin then are traveling via Franklin, Lake, Post Place to Lower Wacker and then resuming the regular route.
Southbound #121 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand to Wabash then traveling via Wabash, Wacker, Franklin to Adams and then resuming the regular route.
#135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express buses are traveling south on Wacker to Jackson then are traveling east on Jackson past Franklin and resuming the regular route.
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #135 buses:
- Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
- Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
#136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express buses are operating south on Wacker to Van Buren then are traveling via Van Buren, Canal to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #136 buses:
- Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
- Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
#156 LaSalle (PM Service Only)
During the evening rush period only, northbound #156 LaSalle buses departing from Union Station are traveling west on Van Buren to Wacker then are operating via Wacker to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
The following temporary bus stop change has been made and is in effect for northbound #156 buses during the evening rush period only:
- Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
Temporary Removal of #29 State Bus Stop at State/Pershing
Currently in effect until Friday, June 1, 2012, the southbound far side stop at State/Pershing has been removed from service due to nearby construction work. Customers are advised to board southbound #29 buses one block south at 40th Street.
Temporary Relocation of Bus Stop at Lake Park/53rd Street
Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Thursday, May 2, 2013, the southbound near side stop at Lake Park/53rd Street has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction work. This stop is served by #6 Jackson Park Express, #X28 Stony Island Express and #171 U of C/Hyde Park buses.
Temporary Removal of Bus Stop at Archer/Cicero
Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Monday, June 6, 2012, the southbound far side bus stop at Archer/Cicero will be temporarily removed from service due to the demolition of a nearby building. This stop is currently served by #62 Archer and #62H Archer/Harlem buses.
During this time, customers can board southbound #62 buses at the existing near side stop at Archer/Cicero. Southbound #62H buses will serve the existing stop located at Archer/Lamon.
Relocation of #36 Broadway Bus Stop Due to Nearby Construction
Currently in effect until Friday, July 12, 2013, the southbound near side stop at Broadway/Elmdale served by #36 Broadway buses has been relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction.
Removal of Bus Stop Change Affects Five Routes
Currently in effect until Thursday, August 1, 2013, the mid-block bus stop located at 5800 South on Stony Island has been temporarily removed due to construction. This stop is served by the #2 Hyde Park Express, #6 Jackson Park Express, #15 Jeffery Local, #28 Stony Island and #X28 Stony Island buses.
