Blue Line – Slow Zone Work

No Construction Work in Dearborn Subway this Weekend

CTA’s Blue Line will operate over its normal route through the Dearborn Subway this weekend. 
 
Construction work in the Dearborn Subway is scheduled to resume in two weeks. 
 
Work in the subway has occurred on previous weekend as crews worked to replace deteriorated wooden half ties with concrete half ties, and replace running rail and contact (third) rail to remove existing slow zones and help prevent the creation of new slow zones.
 

Red Line – Slow Zone Work

Weekend Reroute of Red Line Trains at Sheridan

This weekend, crews will continue work to reduce slow zones near the Sheridan Red Line station resulting in a continuous reroute of northbound and southbound trains on Saturday, August 8 from 7 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.
 
Northbound and southbound Red Line trains will operate on the Purple Express tracks. Customers at the Sheridan station must board and exit trains from the outer platforms instead of the inner platforms.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
 
Next Week
A daytime reroute will be in effect for Red Line trains operating in both directions at the Sheridan station from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. each day beginning Tuesday, August 11 through Friday, August 14, while crews replace deteriorated rail ties, tie plates and spikes.
 
During these times, northbound and southbound Red Line trains will operate on the Purple Express tracks. Customers at the Sheridan station must board and exit trains from the outer platforms instead of the inner platforms.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
 

Blue Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Boarding Changes at the Western Station on the Forest Park Branch Next Week

A late night single track will be in effect for Blue Line trains between the Kedzie-Homan and Western stations on the Forest Park branch two nights next week due to signal upgrade work.
 
Monday Night – Eastbound
From 9 p.m. Monday, August 10 until 4 a.m. the following morning, eastbound Blue Line customers at the Western station on the Forest Park branch must board and exit trains from the westbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 
Tuesday Night – Westbound
From 9 p.m. Tuesday, August 11 until 4 a.m. the following morning, westbound Blue Line customers at the Western station on the Forest Park branch must board and exit trains from the eastbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Late Night Single Track in Effect between the Western and UIC-Halsted Stations

Signal upgrade work continues, resulting in a late night single track for eastbound Blue Line trains between the Western and UIC-Halsted stations on the Forest Park branch from 9 p.m. Wednesday, August 12 until 4 a.m. the following morning.
 
Eastbound Blue Line customers at the Illinois Medical District and Racine stations must board and exit trains from the westbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Single Track in Effect between the UIC-Halsted and LaSalle Stations Thursday Night

Eastbound Blue Line trains will undergo a late night single track between the UIC-Halsted and LaSalle stations from 10 p.m. Thursday, August 13 until 4 a.m. the following morning due to signal upgrade work.
 
Eastbound Blue Line customers at the UIC-Halsted, Clinton and LaSalle stations must board and exit trains from the westbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Red Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Northbound Trains Operating on a Single Track at the Garfield Station

Due to track maintenance work, a late night single track will be in effect for northbound Red Line trains at the Garfield station from 11 p.m. Sunday, August 9 until 4 a.m. the following morning and then again from 11 p.m. Monday, August 10 until 4 a.m. the following morning.
 
During these times, northbound Red Line customers at the Garfield station must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Trains Operating on a Single Track at the Sox-35th Station Three Nights Next Week

Due to track maintenance work, a late night single track will be in effect for northbound Red Line trains at the Sox-35th station from 11 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning on Tuesday night, August 11, Wednesday night, August 12 and Thursday night, August 13.
 
During these times, northbound Red Line customers at the Sox-35th station must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Bus and Rail Service for Upcoming Events

CTA Provides Service to Events throughout the City this Weekend

The Chicago Transit Authority will provide extra bus and rail service this weekend in order to accommodate the anticipated crowds heading to events throughout the city including:
 
  • Lollapalooza in Grant Park – Friday, August 7 through Sunday, August 9
  • Bud Billiken Parade on Chicago's South Side – Saturday, August 8
  • Chicago Bears Family Day at Soldier Field – Saturday, August 8
  • Iowa Cubs game at Wrigley Field – Sunday, August 9
 
Longer trains will operate Friday, Saturday and Sunday on the Brown, Green and Orange lines until 11 p.m.; and on the Blue Line until midnight. Longer trains and more frequent service will operate on the Red Line until midnight all weekend.
 
Additional bus service will be provided for some of these events, while bus reroutes will be in affect for others.

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

Temporary Bus Stop Relocation along the #62 Archer Route

Currently in effect until Friday, September 4, the northbound near side stop at Archer/Kildare served by #62 Archer buses temporarily will be relocated to a far side stop due to construction work.
 

Taylor Street Festa Italiana Detours #38 Ogden/Taylor Buses until Monday

Currently in effect until 10 a.m. Monday, August 10, Taylor Street between Ashland and Ada will be closed to all traffic due to the Taylor Street Festa Italiana.
 
Eastbound #38 Ogden/Taylor buses will travel over the regular route along Taylor to Ashland then will operate via Ashland, Roosevelt, Racine to Taylor and then resume the regular route. Westbound #38 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Caribbean Festival Detours #X20 Washington/Madison Express Buses until Monday

Currently in effect until 11 a.m. Monday, August 10, Randolph Street between Ogden and Lake, and Washington Boulevard between Ogden and Ashland will be closed for the Caribbean Festival.
 
Eastbound #X20 Washington/Madison buses will operate over the regular route along Warren to Ashland then will travel via Ashland, Madison, Racine to Washington and then resume the regular route.
 
Westbound #X20 buses will travel over the regular route along Randolph to Racine then will operate via Racine, Madison, Ashland to Washington and then resume the regular route.
 

#36 Broadway Buses Resume Regular Routing Early Saturday Morning

At approximately midnight, Saturday morning, August 8, northbound #36 Broadway buses will return to their regular routing. Buses were temporarily detoured in the vicinity of State/Pearson due to emergency sewer repair work.
 

Ecuador Parade Temporarily Detours #78 Montrose Buses on Sunday

On Sunday, August 9 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., Montrose Avenue between Western and Kimball will be closed to all traffic due to the Ecuador Parade.

 
Westbound #78 Montrose buses will travel over the regular route along Montrose to Western then will operate via Western, Irving Park, Kimball to Montrose and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #78 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Westbound #66 Chicago Buses Undergo Late Night Reroute Three Nights Next Week

From 10 p.m. each night until 6 a.m. the following morning on Monday night, August 10, Tuesday night, August 11 and Wednesday night, August 12, westbound #66 Chicago buses will undergo a reroute due to a scheduled crane lift at Chicago/Wabash.
 
During these hours, westbound #66 buses will operate over the regular route along Chicago past Michigan to Huron then will travel via Huron, Dearborn to Chicago and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #66 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route. 
 

Air and Water Show Set-Up Work Detours #72 North Buses Beginning Monday

From 6 a.m. Monday, August 10 until 3:30 p.m. Monday, August 17, the bus terminal at North Avenue Beach will be closed to all traffic due to the upcoming Air and Water Show.
 
During this time, eastbound #72 North buses only will travel as far east as North Avenue/LaSalle before operating north on LaSalle, south on Clark to Clark/North Avenue. Westbound buses will depart from North/Clark and will travel west on North Avenue over the regular route.
 
Additional service information for the Air and Water Show soon will be provided in a separate press release.
 

Ongoing Bus Reroutes

Street Repairs Temporarily Detour Northbound #86 Narragansett/Ridgeland Buses

Currently in effect until Monday, August 10 at 5 a.m., northbound #86 Narragansett/Ridgeland buses will be detoured due to street repairs at the intersection of Montrose/Narragansett. As a result of this detour, northbound #86 buses will not make stops on the Wright College Campus.
 
Northbound #86 buses will travel over the regular route along Narragansett past Wright College Drive to Montrose where they will make a near side service stop. From Narragansett/Montrose, buses will continue north along Narragansett over the regular route.
 

Construction Temporarily Detours #86 Narragansett/Ridgeland Buses

Due to construction work at the northeast corner of South Boulevard and Ridgeland, southbound #86 Narragansett/Ridgeland buses are temporarily detoured on weekdays only between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. until further notice.
 
Southbound #86 buses will operate over the regular route along Lake Street past Lombard to Austin then will travel via Austin, Washington, Ridgeland to the intersection of Ridgeland/South Boulevard and will make a near side service stop before beginning northbound service. Northbound #86 buses will continue north on Ridgeland over the regular route.
 

#75 74th/75th Bus Stop Changes

Due to sewer construction work, the eastbound and westbound bus stops at 75th Street/Indiana, served by #75 74th/75th buses, temporarily will be removed from service until further notice.
 
Eastbound customers can board and exit #75 buses from the near side stops at 75th Street/Prairie or 75th Street/Michigan.
 
Westbound customers can board and exit #75 buses from the near side stops at 75th Street/Michigan or 75th Street/Prairie.
 

Sewer Repair Work Reroutes #95E 93rd/95th and #N5 South Shore Night Buses

Due to sewer construction work, 93rd Street between Muskegon and Escanaba/Anthony/Exchange will be closed to all traffic until mid-August.
 
Eastbound #95E 93rd/95th and northbound #N5 South Shore Night buses will travel over their regular routes along 93rd Street to Colfax then will operate via Colfax, 95th Street, Escanaba to 93rd Street/Anthony/Exchange and then will travel northeast on Exchange over their regular routes. Westbound #95E and southbound #N5 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Sewer Repairs Detour #44 Wallace/Racine Buses until Late August

Racine Avenue between 73rd and 72nd streets will be closed to all traffic from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. daily until Friday, August 21, due to sewer repair work.
 
Northbound #44 Wallace/Racine buses will travel over the regular route along Racine to 74th Street then will operate via 74th Street, Loomis, 71st Street to Racine and then resume the regular route. Southbound #44 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Changes to #29 State Bus Stops until Late August

Due to construction work on a nearby water main, the northbound near side and the southbound far side stops at State/Pershing will be removed from service until Friday, August 21. Customers can board and alight northbound and southbound #29 buses from either State/38th Street or State/40th Street.
 

Temporary Removal of Bus Stop along the #81 Lawrence Route

Until Friday, August 21, the eastbound far side stop at Lawrence/Oakley, served by #81 Lawrence buses, temporarily will be removed from service due to construction work. Customers can board and exit at the eastbound near side stops at Lawrence/Western or Lawrence/Leavitt.
 

Sewer Construction Detours #75 74th/75th Buses until Early September

Due to sewer construction work, 75th Street between King Drive and Indiana Avenue will be closed to all traffic until Friday, September 4.
 
Eastbound #75 74th/75th buses will operate over the regular route along 75th Street to Indiana then will travel via Indiana, 76th Street, King Drive to 75th Street and then resume the regular route.
 
Westbound #75 buses will travel via 75th Street to King Drive then will operate via King Drive, 76th Street, Michigan to 75th Street and then resume the regular route.
 

Temporary Relocation of #8 Halsted Bus Stop

The southbound far side stop at Halsted/North Branch served by #8 Halsted buses temporarily will be relocated to a near side stop until Thursday, October 1. This bus stop is being relocated due to a traffic signal installation project.
 

Buses Rerouted on Saturdays for the Near North Farmer’s Market

From 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Saturday through October 31, Division Street between State and Clark will be closed for the Near North Farmer’s Market.
 
Southbound #36 Broadway buses will travel over the regular route along Clark past Division to Maple then will operate via Maple to State and then resume the regular route.
 
Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along State to Elm then will travel via Elm to Clark and then resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #70 Division buses will travel over the regular route along Division to Clark and then will operate via Clark, Maple to Dearborn and then resume the regular route. Westbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route. 
 

Buses Rerouted Due to Construction on Milwaukee Avenue

Eastbound #81W West Lawrence and northbound #91 Austin buses will be rerouted until Monday, November 30, due to construction on Milwaukee Avenue between Gale and Montrose.
 
Eastbound #81W West Lawrence and northbound #91 Austin buses will travel over their regular routes to Lawrence/Milwaukee to a far side stop then will continue eastbound on Lawrence to Lipps, heading north on Lipps to enter the Jefferson Park bus terminal. 
 
Westbound #81W and southbound #91 buses are not affected and will travel along their regular routes.
 

Reconstruction of LaSalle Street Bridge Detours Northbound #24 Wentworth Buses

LaSalle Street between 28th and 26th streets will be closed to all traffic until early-January 2010, due to the reconstruction of the LaSalle Street Bridge.
 
Northbound #24 Wentworth buses will operate over the regular route along LaSalle to 31st Street then will travel via 31st Street, State, 26th Street to Wentworth and then resume the regular route. Southbound #24 buses will travel over the regular route.
 
Changes to #24 Wentworth Bus Stops
Due to the reconstruction of the LaSalle Street Bridge, the following changes will be made to bus stops served by #24 Wentworth buses:
 
LaSalle/31st Street: the northbound far side stop will be relocated to a near side stop.
Wentworth/26th Street: the northbound near side stop will be relocated to a westbound near side stop at 26th Street/Wentworth.
 

Lane Restrictions near State and Grand Detour #29 State and #65 Grand Buses

Due to lane restrictions associated with the Grand/State Red Line rehabilitation project at the northwest corner of State Street and Grand Avenue, #29 State and #36 Broadway buses will be detoured to adjacent streets. These changes in service are expected to remain in place until April 2010.
 
Southbound #29 State buses will operate over the regular route along Grand past State to Clark then will travel via Clark, Illinois to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #29 buses will be able to travel on the remaining open lane along State and will operate over its regular route. 
 
Southbound #36 Broadway buses will travel over the regular route along State to Ontario then will operate via Ontario, Clark, Illinois to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along Dearborn past Illinois to Ohio then will travel via Ohio to State and then resume the regular route.
 

14 CTA Bus Routes Affected Due to Jackson Viaduct Work

Due to the reconstruction of the Jackson Boulevard viaduct between Canal and Wacker, changes in service along 14 CTA bus routes are expected to remain in place until April 2010. The following CTA bus routes are being rerouted to adjacent streets:
