Blue Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Early Morning Trains Operating on the Same Track between LaSalle and Grand

All Blue Line trains will be routed to operate on the southbound (to Forest Park) tracks between the LaSalle and Grand Blue Line stations from 12:01 a.m. until 4 a.m. each morning on Saturday, August 7 and then again during the same hours on Sunday, August 8, due to subway cleaning.
 
Blue Line customers at the Jackson, Monroe, Washington and Clark/Lake stations traveling northbound (to O’Hare) must board and exit trains from the southbound (to Forest Park) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Late Night Trains to Operate on the Same Tracks at the Jefferson Park Station Next Week

All Blue Line trains will be routed to operate on the northbound (to O’Hare) tracks at the Jefferson Park station from 10 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Sunday night, August 8 through Friday morning, August 13, due to structure repair work
 
Customers at the Jefferson Park station traveling southbound (to Forest Park) must board and exit trains from the northbound (to O’Hare) side of the platform. 
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Service for Events

CTA is the Way to Go for Fans Attending Weekend Festivities

CTA bus and rail service is a convenient and affordable option this weekend to get to events throughout the city including Lollapalooza in Grant Park, Chicago Bears Family Day at Soldier Field and the Cincinnati Reds versus the Cubs games at Wrigley Field.
 
Longer trains will operate Friday and Saturday on the Brown, Green and Orange lines until 11 p.m. and on Sunday longer trains and more frequent service will be provided along those lines until midnight.
 
Longer trains and more frequent service will be provided on the Blue and Red lines until midnight all weekend.
 
More frequent service will be provided on several bus routes serving Grant Park and Soldier Field.

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

Jackson Closed for Lollapalooza Festival This Weekend

Currently in effect until noon Tuesday, August 10, Jackson and Balbo are closed between Michigan and Lake Shore Drive for the Lollapalooza festival in Grant Park.
 
Buses on the #2 Hyde Park Express, #6 Jackson Park Express, #10 Museum of Science & Industry, #14 Jeffery Express, #26 South Shore Express, #X28 Stony Island Express and #130 Museum Campus routes are being rerouted to adjacent streets.
 

Taylor Street Festa Italiana Detours #157 Streeterville/Taylor Buses Until Monday

Currently in effect until 10 a.m. Monday, August 9, Taylor Street between Ashland and Ada is closed to all traffic for the Taylor Street Festa Italiana event, resulting in a reroute of #157 Streeterville/Taylor buses.
 
Eastbound #157 buses will travel over the regular route along Taylor to Ashland then will operate via Ashland, Roosevelt, Racine to Taylor and then resume the regular route. Westbound #157 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Three Routes Detoured for the Annual North Halsted Market Days Event

From 2 a.m. Saturday, August 7 until 4 a.m. Monday, August 9, Halsted Street between Belmont and Addison will be closed to all traffic for the annual North Halsted Market Days event. During this time, the #8 Halsted, #77 Belmont (Owl Service) and #151 Sheridan (to Belmont/Halsted only) buses will be rerouted to adjacent streets.
 
Northbound #8 buses will operate over the regular route along Halsted to Clark then will travel via Clark, Sheffield, Addison to Halsted and then resume the regular route. Southbound #8 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Eastbound #77 (Owl Service) buses will travel over the regular route along Belmont to Clark then will operate via Clark, Halsted to Belmont/Clark before beginning westbound service. From Belmont/Clark, westbound #77 (Owl Service) buses will continue west on Belmont and then resume the regular route.
 
Northbound #151 (to Belmont/Halsted only) buses will operate over the regular route along Sheridan to Belmont and then continue north on Inner Lake Shore Drive to West Sheridan then will travel via West Sheridan, Pine Grove, Irving Park, Inner Lake Shore Drive to Addison before beginning southbound service.
 
Southbound #151 buses will continue south on Inner Lake Shore Drive to Sheridan and then resume the regular route.
 

“Transformers 3” Filming Briefly Detours Four Downtown Routes Saturday Morning

Four CTA bus routes will be briefly detoured in the downtown area due to the temporary closure of Wacker Drive between Michigan and State, and Wabash Avenue between Lake and Kinzie as filming of the “Transformers 3” movie continues this weekend. From 8 a.m. until 9 a.m. Saturday, August 7, the following reroutes will be in effect:
 
#6 Jackson Park Express (Southbound Only)
Southbound #6 buses will operate over the regular route along Wacker to Michigan then will travel via Michigan, Randolph to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #6 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 
#10 Museum of Science & Industry
Northbound #10 buses will travel over the regular route along State to Lake then will operate via Lake to Michigan and then resume the regular route north on Michigan past South Water.
 
Southbound #10 buses will travel over the regular route along Michigan past Wacker to Randolph then will operate via Randolph to State and then resume the regular route.
 
#124 Navy Pier
Eastbound #124 buses will operate over the regular route along Wacker to State then will travel via State, Washington, Michigan, Randolph to Columbus and then resume the regular route.
 
Westbound #124 buses will operate over the regular route along Columbus past South Water to Randolph then will travel via Randolph to Michigan and then resume the regular route.
 
#146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express (Southbound Only)
Southbound #146 buses will travel over the regular route along Michigan past Wacker to Randolph then will operate via Randolph to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #146 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 

Walk for Moral Excellence Detours #67 67th/69th/71st Buses on Saturday

From 10 a.m. until noon Saturday, August 7, 71st Street between Western and California will be closed to all traffic for the Walk for Moral Excellence event, which will result in the reroute of #67 67th/69th/71st buses.
 
Westbound #67 buses will travel over the regular route along 69th Street to Western then will operate via Western, 67th Street, Kedzie to 71st Street and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #67 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Summer Fest West Parade Detours #20 Madison Buses Saturday Morning

From 11 a.m. until noon Saturday, August 7, the eastbound lanes of Madison between Laramie and Hamlin will be closed for the Summer Fest West Parade. During this time, eastbound #20 Madison buses will be detoured to adjacent streets.
 
Eastbound #20 buses will travel over the regular route along Madison to Laramie then will operate via Laramie, Washington, Hamlin to Madison and then resume the regular route. Westbound #20 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 

Ecuador Parade Temporarily Detours #78 Montrose and #82 Kimball/Homan Buses

On Sunday, August 8 from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., Montrose Avenue between California and Kimball, and Kimball between Montrose and Wilson will be closed to all traffic for the annual Independence of Ecuador Parade. During this time, #78 Montrose and #82 Kimball/Homan buses will be detoured to adjacent streets.
 
Eastbound #78 buses will operate over the regular route along Montrose to Pulaski then will travel via Pulaski, Lawrence, Western to Montrose and then resume the regular route. Westbound #78 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Southbound #82 Kimball/Homan buses will travel over the regular route along Kimball to Lawrence then will operate via Lawrence, Pulaski, Elston, Irving Park to Kimball and then resume the regular route.
 

Pakistan Independence Parade Reroutes #49B North Western and #155 Devon Buses

On Sunday, August 8 from noon until 2:30 p.m., Devon Avenue between Damen and Western, and the northbound lanes of Western Avenue between Devon and Pratt will be closed for the annual Pakistan Independence parade.
 
Northbound #49B North Western buses will operate over the regular route along Western to Peterson then will travel via Peterson, California, Lunt to Western and then resume the regular route. Southbound #49B buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 
Eastbound #155 Devon buses will operate over the regular route along Devon to California then will travel via California, Lunt, Ridge to Devon and then resume the regular route. Westbound #155 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Railroad Crossing Repair Work Detours #111 Pullman/111th/115th Buses Next Week

From 6 a.m. Monday, August 9 until 4 p.m. Saturday, August 14, 115th Street at Perry will be closed to all traffic due to railroad crossing repair work, resulting in a reroute of #111 Pullman/111th/115th buses.
 
Westbound #111 buses will travel over the regular route along 115th Street to State then will operate via State, 111th Street, Wentworth to 115th Street and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #111 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Air and Water Show Set-Up Work Detours #72 North Buses Beginning Monday

From 6 a.m. Monday, August 9 until noon Monday, August 16, the bus terminal at North Avenue Beach will be closed to all traffic due to the upcoming Air and Water Show.
 
During this time, eastbound #72 North buses will travel only as far east as North Avenue/LaSalle before operating north on LaSalle, south on Clark to Clark/North Avenue. Westbound buses will depart from North/Clark and will travel west on North Avenue over the regular route.
 
Additional service information for the Air and Water Show soon will be provided in a separate press release.
 

Ongoing Bus Reroutes

Sewer Construction Project at Wilson/Hermitage Detours Two Bus Routes

Currently in effect until Wednesday, August 18, the intersection of Wilson/Hermitage is closed to all traffic due to a sewer construction project. During this time, #145 Wilson/Michigan Express and #148 Clarendon/Michigan Express buses are being detoured.
 
As a result of the street closure and height restrictions for articulated buses at the Wilson/Ravenswood viaduct, #145 and #148 buses are unable to serve the terminal at East Ravenswood/Wilson. Customers must board and exit #145 and #148 buses from West Ravenswood/Wilson.
 
Northbound #145 and #148 buses are operating over their regular routes along West Ravenswood past Leland to Wilson before beginning southbound service. From West Ravenswood/Wilson southbound #145 and #148 buses are traveling via Wilson, Damen, Lawrence, Ashland to Wilson and then resuming their regular routes.
 

Temporary Relocation of Bus Stop at LaSalle/Quincy

Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Friday, August 20, the northbound near side bus stop at LaSalle/Quincy has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction. This stop is served by #134 Stockton/LaSalle Express, #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express, #136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express and #156 LaSalle buses.
 

Water Main Construction Project Detours #97 Skokie Buses

Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Friday, August 20, #97 Skokie buses are being detoured from the intersection of Oakton and Dodge due to a lane reduction for a nearby water main construction project.
 
Westbound #97 buses are traveling over the regular route along Howard past Dodge to McCormick then are operating via McCormick to Oakton and then resuming the regular route. Eastbound #97 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Change to Bus Stop Served by #21 Cermak and #60 Blue Island/26th Street Buses

Due to a streetscape project, the westbound near side stop at Cermak/Laflin served by #21 Cermak and #60 Blue Island/26th buses has been temporarily removed from service until Monday, August 23.
 

#81 Lawrence Bus Stops near the Kennedy Expressway Temporarily Eliminated

Currently in effect until Tuesday, August 31, the eastbound and westbound near side bus stops on Lawrence at LeClaire served by #81 Lawrence buses have been temporarily removed from service due to rehabilitation work on the Lawrence Avenue viaduct.
 

Temporary Elimination of Bus Stop at Michigan/Delaware

Currently in effect until Tuesday, August 31, the southbound near side stop at Michigan/Delaware has been temporarily removed from service due to sidewalk reconstruction work.
 
This stop is served by #33 Mag Mile Express, #143 Stockton/Michigan Express, #144 Marine/Michigan Express, #145 Wilson/Michigan Express, #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express, #147 Outer Drive Express, #148 Clarendon/Michigan Express and #151 Sheridan buses.
 
Customers may board and exit these buses from the near side stop at Michigan/Pearson.
 

Temporary Relocation of #75 74th/75th Bus Stop at 75th Street/Jeffery

Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Thursday, September 30, the eastbound near side stop at 75th Street/Jeffery served by #75 74th/75th buses has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction.
 

Temporary Reroute in Effect for #78 Montrose Buses Due to Work at Clark/Wilson

Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Friday, October 29, #78 Montrose buses are temporarily unable to make turns at the intersection of Clark/Wilson due to a streetscape project.
 
Eastbound #78 Montrose buses are operating over the regular route along Montrose to Ashland then are traveling via Ashland, east on Wilson past Clark and then resuming the regular route east on Wilson. Westbound #78 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Buses Rerouted on Saturdays for the Near North Farmer’s Market

From 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Saturday through October 30, Division Street between State and Clark will be closed for the Near North Farmer’s Market, resulting in a detour of the #36 Broadway and #70 Division bus routes.
 
Southbound #36 buses will travel over the regular route along Clark past Division to Maple then will operate via Maple to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along State to Elm then will travel via Elm to Clark and then resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #70 buses will travel over the regular route along Division to Clark and then will operate via Clark, Maple to Dearborn and then resume the regular route. Westbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route. 
 

#111 Pullman/111th/115th Buses Undergo Reroutes Due to Bridge Repair Work

Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Sunday, October 31, the 111th Street Bridge over Interstate 57 (I-57) is closed to all traffic due to bridge and deck replacement work, resulting in a detour of the #111 Pullman/111th/115th bus route.
 
Southbound #111 buses are operating over the regular route along 111th Street to Marshfield then traveling via Marshfield, 112th Place, Hamlet to 111th Street and then resuming the regular route east on 111th Street.
 
Northbound #111 buses are traveling over the regular route along 111th Street to Throop then operating via Throop, 107th Street, Vincennes and then resuming the regular route south on Vincennes past 111th Street.
 

Change to Bus Stop along #156 LaSalle Bus Route

A traffic lane reduction is in effect at LaSalle/Kinzie due to a Commonwealth Edison project. As a result, the northbound far side stop served by #156 LaSalle buses has been temporarily removed from service until Friday, November 12.
 

Temporary Relocation of Bus Stop at Jeffery/75th Street

Currently in effect until further notice, the southbound far side bus stop at Jeffery/75th Street has been temporarily relocated to a near side stop due to sidewalk construction. This stop is served by southbound #14 Jeffery Express and #15 Jeffery Local buses.
 

Temporary Changes in Service for #21 Cermak and #62 Archer Buses Serving the Cermak-Chinatown Station

Currently in effect, customers at the Cermak-Chinatown Red Line station must use the new entrance located approximately one block north of Cermak on Archer Avenue. This entrance will serve as the primary access point for customers while the main entrance to the station on the north side of Cermak is reconstructed and made accessible. 
 
As a result of these changes, and to accommodate customers transferring between bus and rail services, the following changes have been made to buses serving the station:
 
#21 Cermak
Eastbound #21 Cermak buses are traveling over the regular route along Cermak to Wentworth then operating via Wentworth, Archer, Clark to Cermak and resuming the regular route. Westbound #21 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 
  • Cermak/Wentworth: the near side stop at Cermak/Wentworth served by eastbound #21 buses has been temporarily removed from service.
  • Wentworth/Cermak: new temporary stops have been added at Wentworth/Cermak for eastbound and westbound #21 buses. Eastbound customers must board and exit buses from the far side stop; westbound customers must board and exit buses from the near side stop.
  • Cermak/Red Line Station: the mid-block stop near the Cermak Road entrance of the Cermak-Chinatown station has been temporarily removed from service.
  • Archer/Red Line Station: eastbound #21 buses are serving the new temporary mid-block stop near the Archer Avenue entrance of the Cermak-Chinatown station.
  • Wentworth/Archer: westbound #21 buses are serving the new temporary far side stop at Wentworth/Archer.
 
#62 Archer
  • Archer/Wentworth: the northbound near side stop at Archer/Wentworth served by #62 buses has been removed from service.
  • Archer/Red Line Station: northbound #62 buses are serving the new mid-block stop near the Archer Avenue entrance of the Cermak-Chinatown station.
 

#56 Milwaukee Bus Stop at Milwaukee/Diversey Temporarily Relocated

Until further notice, the southbound near side bus stop at Milwaukee/Diversey served by #56 Milwaukee buses has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop.
 

Lane Restrictions near State and Grand Detour #29 State and #36 Broadway Buses

Due to lane restrictions associated with the Grand/State Red Line rehabilitation project at the northwest corner of State Street and Grand Avenue, #29 State and #36 Broadway buses are being detoured to adjacent streets until further notice.
 
Southbound #29 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand past State to Clark then traveling via Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #29 buses are traveling along the remaining open lane along State and over the regular route.
 
Southbound #36 buses are traveling over the regular route along State to Ontario then operating via Ontario, Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #36 buses are operating over the regular route along Dearborn past Illinois to Ohio then traveling via Ohio to State and resuming the regular route.
 

Temporary Changes to Bus Stops near Sheridan/Foster

Currently in effect until further notice, the northbound near side stop at Sheridan/Foster has been temporarily removed from service due to the demolition and reconstruction of a nearby building. This stop is served by #136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express, #147 Outer Drive Express and #151 Sheridan buses.
 

Temporary Removal of #126 Jackson Bus Stop at Jackson/Sangamon

Currently in effect until Friday, September 30, 2011, the eastbound far side stop at Jackson/Sangamon served by #126 Jackson buses has been temporarily removed from service due to nearby construction. Customers may board and exit eastbound #126 buses at either Jackson/Morgan or Jackson/Peoria.
 

Service Adjustments Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project

Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project, Franklin Street between Harrison and Van Buren and Lower Wacker Drive between Randolph and Harrison are closed until May 2012. As a result of these closures and other street reconfigurations, the following changes in bus service currently are in effect:
 
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
Northbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses are traveling over the regular route along Harrison to Canal then are operating via Canal, Jackson to Franklin and resuming the regular route. Southbound #11 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes also have been made to bus stops served by northbound #11 buses:
 
  • Canal/Harrison: a far side stop has been added to service.
  • Canal/Jackson: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Jackson at the Chicago River: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • 404 W. Harrison: the mid-block stop has been removed from service.
  • Franklin/Van Buren: the far side stop has been removed from service.
 
#121 Union/Wacker Express
Northbound #121 Union/Wacker Express buses are operating over the regular route along Jackson past Wacker to Franklin then are traveling via Franklin, Lake, Post Place to Lower Wacker and then resuming the regular route.
 
Southbound #121 buses are operating over the regular route along Lower Wacker to the exit ramp for Upper Wacker and then traveling via Upper Wacker to Adams and resuming the regular route west on Adams.
 
#135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express buses are traveling south on Wacker to Jackson then are traveling east on Jackson past Franklin and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #135 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #136 Sheridan/LaSalle buses are operating south on Wacker to Van Buren then are traveling via Van Buren, Canal to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #136 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#156 LaSalle (PM Service Only)
During the evening rush period only, northbound #156 LaSalle buses departing from Union Station are traveling west on Van Buren to Wacker then are operating via Wacker to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary bus stop change has been made and is in effect for northbound #156 buses during the evening rush period only: 
 
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
