Blue Line – Events Affecting Service

Nightly Closure of Auxiliary Exit at the Logan Square Station Next Week

The Spaulding Avenue auxiliary entrance/exit to the Logan Square Blue Line station will be temporarily closed each night next week while crews perform repair work.
 
From 8 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Monday night, August 8 through Saturday morning, August 13, customers will need to enter and exit the Logan Square station through one of the entrances located on Kedzie at Milwaukee.
 
Information and signage will be posted throughout the station alerting customers to these nightly closures and directing them to the appropriate entrance/exit.
 
Escalator Temporarily Out of Service
Also in effect until further notice, the escalator that leads from street level to mezzanine level at the north side entrance on Milwaukee is currently out of service. Customers at this location can use either the stairs or the elevator to access the Logan Square station.
 

Early Morning Trains to Operate on the Same Tracks at the Logan Square Station

All Blue Line trains will be routed to operate on the northbound (to O’Hare) tracks between the Belmont and California stations from 12:01 a.m. until 7 a.m. Saturday, August 6 and then again from 12:01 a.m. until 8 a.m. Sunday, August 7, due to tunnel repair work.
 
During these times, southbound (to Forest Park) Blue Line customers at the Logan Square station must board and exit trains from the northbound (to O’Hare) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Late Night Boarding Changes in Dearborn Subway Next Week

All late night Blue Line trains will be routed to operate on the southbound (to Forest Park) tracks in the Dearborn subway from 11:59 p.m. Sunday, August 7 until 4 a.m. the following morning, due to subway cleaning work.
 
Northbound (to O’Hare) Blue Line customers at the Jackson, Monroe, Washington and Lake stations must board and exit trains from the southbound (to Forest Park) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Late Night Boarding Changes in Effect at the Logan Square Station Next Week

From 11 p.m. Monday, August 8 until 4 a.m. the following morning, all Blue Line trains will be routed to operate on the southbound (to Forest Park) tracks between the Belmont and California stations as tunnel repair work continues.
 
Northbound (to O’Hare) Blue Line customers at the Logan Square station must board and exit trains from the southbound (to Forest Park) side of the platform.

Tuesday – Affecting Southbound (to Forest Park) Trains
From 11 p.m. Tuesday, August 9 until 4 a.m. the following morning, southbound (to Forest Park) Blue Line customers at the Logan Square station must board and exit trains from the northbound (to O’Hare) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 
Wednesday and Thursday – Affecting Northbound (to O’Hare) Trains
From 11 p.m. Wednesday, August 10 until 4 a.m. the following morning and then again from 11 p.m. Thursday, August 11 until 4 a.m. the following morning, northbound (to O’Hare) Blue Line customers at the Logan Square station must board and exit trains from the southbound (to Forest Park) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Green Line – Events Affecting Service

Late Night Two-Phase Single Track Operation in Effect on Harlem/Lake Branch

A two-phase single track operation will be in effect for all late night Green Line trains operating between the Cicero and Harlem stations beginning Sunday night, August 7, due to track maintenance work.
 
Phase I – at Austin, Ridgeland and Oak Park
From 9 p.m. until midnight Sunday, August 7, Green Line customers at the Austin, Ridgeland and Oak Park stations traveling westbound (to Harlem) must board and exit trains from the eastbound (to the Loop) side of the platform.
 
Phase II – at Laramie, Central, Austin, Ridgeland and Oak Park
From 12:01 a.m. until approximately 2 a.m. (or end of service) Monday, August 8, westbound (to Harlem) Green Line customers at the Laramie station must board and exit trains from the eastbound (to the Loop) platform.
 
Westbound (to Harlem) customers at the Central, Austin, Ridgeland and Oak Park stations must board and exit trains from the eastbound (to the Loop) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Red Line – Events Affecting Service

Late Night Trains Operating on Same Tracks at the 69th Street Station

All late night Red Line trains will be routed to operate on the northbound (to Howard) tracks at the 69th Street station from 10 p.m. Friday, August 5 until 6 a.m. the following morning, due to track maintenance work.
 
Southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) customers at the 69th Street station must board and exit trains from the northbound (to Howard) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 
Next Week
From 10:30 p.m. each night until 4:30 a.m. the following morning beginning Monday night, August 8 through Friday morning, August 12, all Red Line trains will be routed to operate on the northbound (to Howard) tracks at the 69th Street station as track maintenance work continues.
 
Southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) customers at the 69th Street station must board and exit trains from the northbound (to Howard) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Service for Upcoming Events

CTA Provides Service to Multiple Events This Weekend

CTA bus and rail service is a convenient and affordable option this weekend to get to events throughout the city including Lollapalooza in Grant Park, Chicago Bears Family Day at Soldier Field, the Cincinnati Reds versus the Cubs games at Wrigley Field, Sade concerts at the United Center and Joel Osteen at U.S. Cellular Field.
 
All weekend, longer trains will operate until 11:30 p.m. on the Pink, Green and Orange lines. On the Blue and Red lines, extra service will operate until 11:30 p.m. and longer trains will operate until midnight.
 
Longer trains will operate on the Brown Line from the Loop until 11:30 p.m. all weekend and more frequent service will be provided on Friday, August 5 and Sunday, August 7.
 
Service hours on the Yellow Line will be extended to 1 a.m. leaving from Howard station, while Purple Line trains will operate on a normal schedule throughout the weekend.
 
More capacity will be provided on several bus routes serving Grant Park, Soldier Field and Wrigley Field.

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

Railroad Crossing Repair Work Detours #59 59th/61st Buses

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Sunday, August 7, #59 59th/61st buses are being detoured due to railroad crossing repairs in the 4600 block of W. 59th Street – west of Kolmar Avenue.
 
Westbound #59 buses are traveling over the regular route along 59th Street to Pulaski then are operating via Pulaski, 63rd Street, Cicero to 59th Street and into the Midway Orange Line terminal. Eastbound #59 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Eastbound #21 Cermak Buses Detoured From Cermak between Canal and Archer

Currently in effect until approximately 6 p.m. Wednesday, August 10, eastbound #21 Cermak buses are being detoured due to the closure of Cermak Road between Canal and Archer for a fiber optics installation project.
 
Eastbound #21 buses are operating over the regular route along Cermak to Canal then are traveling via Canal, Archer to Cermak and resuming the regular route. Westbound #21 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 

Bridge Repair Work Detours #26 South Shore Express and #30 South Chicago Buses

Currently in effect until approximately 2 p.m. Friday, August 12, #26 South Shore Express and #30 South Chicago buses are being detoured due to the closure of the 92nd Street Bridge over the Calumet River for repair work.
 
Southbound #26 and #30 buses are traveling over their regular routes along 91st Street to Mackinaw then are operating via Mackinaw, Harbor, South Chicago, 95th Street to Ewing and then resuming their regular routes. Northbound #26 and #30 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Block Party Detours Eastbound #95E 93rd/95th Buses on Saturday

From 5 a.m. until approximately 5 p.m. Saturday, August 6, eastbound #95E 93rd/95th buses will be detoured due to the closure of Burley Avenue at 91st Street for a block party.
 
Eastbound #95E buses will travel over the regular route along 92nd Street to Houston then will operate via Houston, 91st Street to Buffalo and then resume the regular route. Westbound #95E buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 

Temporary Relocation of #54 Cicero Bus Stop

Effective at 4 a.m. Monday, August 8 until approximately 4 a.m. Monday, September 5, the southbound near side stop at Cicero/Lake (at the Green Line) will be relocated to a far side stop due to the demolition of a nearby building. This stop is served by #54 Cicero buses.
 

Temporary Removal of Bus Stop at Hyde Park/Cornell

Effective at 4 a.m. Monday, August 8 until approximately 4 a.m. Monday, September 5, the northbound far side stop at Hyde Park/Cornell will be temporarily removed from service due to a street and curb reconstruction project. This stop is served by #6 Jackson Park Express and #X28 Stony Island Express buses.
 

Sewer Installation Project Detours #82 Kimball/Homan Buses

From 6 a.m. Tuesday, August 9 until approximately 6 p.m. Tuesday, August 23, #82 Kimball/Homan buses will be detoured due to the closure of Homan Avenue at Lake for a sewer installation project.
 
Northbound #82 buses will travel over the regular route along Homan to Warren then will operate via Warren, Kedzie, Fulton to Homan and then resume the regular route. Southbound #82 buses will travel over the regular route along Homan to Fulton then will operate via Fulton, Kedzie, Washington to Homan and then resume the regular route.
 

Windy City Rubber Ducky Derby Detours #124 Navy Pier Buses on Thursday

From 12:30 p.m. until approximately 1:30 p.m. Thursday, August 11, #124 Navy Pier buses will be detoured due to the closure of the Columbus Drive Bridge over the main branch of the Chicago River for the Windy City Rubber Ducky Derby.
 
Eastbound #124 buses will operate over the regular route along lower Columbus to lower Wacker Drive then will travel via lower Wacker Drive, lower Lake Shore Drive to Illinois and then resume the regular route.
 
Westbound #124 buses will travel over the regular route along Grand to Lake Shore Drive then will operate via lower Lake Shore Drive, lower Wacker Drive to lower Columbus and then resume the regular route.
 

Ongoing Bus Service Changes

Temporary Relocation of Bus Stop at Clark/Adams

Currently in effect until approximately 5 a.m. Monday, August 8, the southbound far side stop at Clark/Adams has been relocated to a near side stop at Jackson/Clark due to ADA ramp work on Clark at Adams. This stop is served by #22 Clark, #24 Wentworth and #129 West Loop/South Loop (PM Rush service only) buses.
 

Temporary Relocation of Bus Stop at 79th Street/Cottage Grove

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, August 12, the westbound near side stop at 79th Street/Cottage Grove served by #79 79th buses will be temporarily relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction.
 

Water Department Project on Madison Detours Two Westbound Bus Routes

Currently in effect until approximately 6 a.m. Monday, September 12, westbound #19 United Center Express and #20 Madison buses are being routed due to a Water Department project on Madison between LaSalle and Franklin that is expected to result in heavy traffic congestion.
 
Westbound #19 and #20 buses will instead travel along Madison to LaSalle then will operate via LaSalle, Randolph, Clinton to Madison and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #19 and #20 buses are not affected and will travel over their regular routes.
 
(NOTE: this reroute supersedes the reroute previously in place for westbound #19 and #20 buses as part of the Stage II Wacker Drive detours)
 

Repairs to Bridge Detour #111 Pullman/111th/115th Buses

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, September 30, #111 Pullman/111th/115th buses are being detoured from Cottage Grove between 98th Street and 100th Place due to bridge repair work.
 
Southbound #111 buses are traveling over the regular route along 95th Street to King Drive then operating via King Drive, 100th Street to Cottage Grove and resuming the regular route. Northbound #111 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Near North Farmer’s Market Detours #36 Broadway and #70 Division Buses

From 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Saturday through October 29, #36 Broadway and #70 Division buses will be detoured due to the closure of Division Street between State and Clark for the Near North Farmer’s Market.
 
Southbound #36 buses will travel over the regular route along Clark past Division to Maple then will operate via Maple to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along State to Elm then will travel via Elm to Clark and then resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #70 buses will travel over the regular route along Division to Clark and then will operate via Clark, Maple to Dearborn and then resume the regular route. Westbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route. 
 

Construction Detours #20 Madison and #90 Harlem Buses Until December

Currently in effect until Friday, December 2, eastbound #20 Madison (Owl service) buses and #90 Harlem buses are being detoured due to the closure of North Boulevard and South Boulevard between Marion and Home for a construction project.
 
Eastbound #20 (Owl service) buses are operating over the regular route along Harlem past North Boulevard to Washington then are traveling via Washington, Maple, Randolph, Harlem to Lake and resuming the regular route. Westbound #20 (Owl service) buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 
Southbound #90 buses are traveling over the regular route along Harlem past North Boulevard to Washington then are operating via Washington, Maple, Randolph, Harlem to Harlem/South Boulevard before beginning northbound service. From Harlem/South Boulevard, northbound #90 buses are traveling north on Harlem over the regular route.
 

Lane Restrictions near State and Grand Detour #29 State and #36 Broadway Buses

Due to lane restrictions associated with the Grand Red Line rehabilitation project at the northwest corner of State and Grand, #29 State and #36 Broadway buses are being detoured to adjacent streets until further notice.
 
Southbound #29 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand past State to Clark then traveling via Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #29 buses are traveling along the remaining open lane along State and over the regular route.
 
Southbound #36 buses are traveling over the regular route along State to Ontario then are operating via Ontario, Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #36 buses are operating over the regular route along Dearborn past Illinois to Ohio then traveling via Ohio to State and resuming the regular route.
 

Changes in Service along #8 Halsted Route for Bridge Reconstruction Project

Currently in effect until late-December 2011, Halsted Street between Division and the north branch of the Chicago River is closed due to a bridge reconstruction project.
 
Northbound #8 Halsted buses are traveling over the regular route along Halsted past Chicago to North Branch then are operating via North Branch, Cherry, Division to Halsted and then resuming the regular route. Southbound #8 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 
Changes to Bus Stops
  • Halsted/North Branch: the northbound far side stop on Halsted has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop on North Branch at Halsted.
  • Halsted/Division: the southbound far side stop has been temporarily relocated to a near side stop.
 

Service Changes to 14 Downtown Bus Routes for Stage II of Wacker Drive Project

Currently in effect, changes in service have been made to 14 CTA bus routes that operate in the downtown area near Wacker Drive and Madison due to work associated with Stage II of the Wacker Drive construction project.
 
Construction on Wacker Drive will result in changes along the following routes:

Service Adjustments Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project

Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project, Franklin Street between Harrison and Van Buren and Lower Wacker Drive between Randolph and Harrison are closed until May 2012. As a result of these closures and other street reconfigurations, the following changes in bus service currently are in effect:
 
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
Northbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses are traveling over the regular route along Harrison to Canal then are operating via Canal, Jackson to Franklin and resuming the regular route. Southbound #11 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes also have been made to bus stops served by northbound #11 buses:
 
  • Canal/Harrison: a far side stop has been added to service.
  • Canal/Jackson: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Jackson at the Chicago River: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • 404 W. Harrison: the mid-block stop has been removed from service.
  • Franklin/Van Buren: the far side stop has been removed from service.
 
#121 Union/Wacker Express
Northbound #121 Union/Wacker Express buses are operating over the regular route along Jackson past Wacker to Franklin then are traveling via Franklin, Lake, Post Place to Lower Wacker and then resuming the regular route.
 
Southbound #121 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand to Wabash then traveling via Wabash, Wacker, Franklin to Adams and then resuming the regular route.
 
#135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express buses are traveling south on Wacker to Jackson then are traveling east on Jackson past Franklin and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #135 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #136 Sheridan/LaSalle buses are operating south on Wacker to Van Buren then are traveling via Van Buren, Canal to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #136 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#156 LaSalle (PM Service Only)
During the evening rush period only, northbound #156 LaSalle buses departing from Union Station are traveling west on Van Buren to Wacker then are operating via Wacker to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary bus stop change has been made and is in effect for northbound #156 buses during the evening rush period only: 
 
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 

Relocation of #36 Broadway Bus Stop Due to Nearby Construction

Currently in effect until Friday, July 12, 2013, the southbound near side stop at Broadway/Elmdale served by #36 Broadway buses has been relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction.
