Blue Line – Other Events Affecting Service
Late Night Trains to Operate on the Same Tracks in the Dearborn Subway This Weekend
All Blue Line trains will be routed to operate on the southbound (to Forest Park) tracks between the LaSalle and Grand stations from 10 p.m. Friday, August 27 until 4 a.m. the following morning and then again from 10 p.m. Saturday, August 28 until 4 a.m. the following morning, due to sewer cleaning.
During these times, Blue Line customers at the Jackson, Monroe, Washington and Lake stations traveling northbound (to O’Hare) must board and exit trains from the southbound (to Forest Park) side of the platform.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
Red Line – Other Events Affecting Service
Trains to Operate on the Same Tracks at the 69th Street Station Early Next Week
All late night Red Line trains will be routed to operate on the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) tracks at the 69th Street station from 10 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Sunday night, August 29 through Wednesday morning, September 1, due to track maintenance work.
During these times, Red Line customers traveling northbound (to Howard) must board and exit trains from the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) side of the platform.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

All Red Line trains will be routed to operate on the northbound (to Howard) tracks at the 47th Street station from 10 p.m. Wednesday, September 1 until 4 a.m. the following morning and then again from 10 p.m. Thursday, September 2 until 4 a.m. the following morning, due to track maintenance work.
During these times, Red Line customers traveling southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) must board and exit trains from the northbound (to Howard) side of the platform.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
Service for Upcoming Events
Take CTA to the Bears Final 2010 Preseason Home Game at Soldier Field
Fans heading to Soldier Field for the final 2010 preseason home game this Saturday will find CTA’s #128 Soldier Field Express and #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express routes provide a convenient and economical travel option. The Chicago Bears face the Arizona Cardinals on Saturday, August 28. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
Supplemental service will be provided on both routes to accommodate anticipated crowds. #128 Soldier Field Express buses will operate non-stop between the Ogilvie Transportation Center, Union Station and Soldier Field for the convenience of Bears fans. Service will operate from 5:15 p.m. until 7:35 p.m. After the game, buses will leave Soldier Field every few minutes for one hour.
Buses Rerouted
In anticipation of heavy traffic along Roosevelt and Lake Shore Drive due to the football game at Soldier Field, the #130 Museum Campus and #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express bus routes will be detoured from 6 p.m. until midnight on Saturday, August 21.
Southbound #130 and #146 buses will travel over the regular route along Columbus to Lake Shore Drive then will operate via Lake Shore Drive, 18th Street to Museum Campus Drive and then resume the regular route.
Northbound #130 and #146 buses will travel over the regular route along Museum Campus Drive to Waldron then will operate via Waldron, Lake Shore Drive to Columbus and then resume the regular route.
CTA Service for Tall Ships 2010 at Navy Pier
CTA is a convenient option for those heading to Navy Pier for the Tall Ships 2010 Festival, which continues through Sunday, August 29.
Spectators can take any of the four routes that regularly serve Navy Pier: #29 State, #65 Grand, #66 Chicago and #124 Navy Pier.
CTA will provide more frequent service to and from Navy Pier along the #29 State, #65 Grand, #66 Chicago and #124 Navy Pier bus routes during the event hours only on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. In addition, longer trains will operate along the following rail lines:
Blue Line
Longer trains will operate following the fireworks displays until approximately midnight on Friday and Saturday. Longer trains also will operate on Saturday and Sunday during event hours.
Pink Line
Longer trains will operate between the Loop and 54th/Cermak on Sunday only.
Red Line
Longer trains will operate following the fireworks displays until approximately midnight on Friday and Saturday.
Green/Brown/Orange Lines
Longer trains will operate during event hours all weekend; and also following the fireworks displays until approximately 11:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
Purple Line (connections at Howard with Red Line trains serving downtown)
Longer trains will operate following the fireworks displays until approximately 11:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Longer trains also will operate on Saturday and Sunday during event hours.
Take the CTA to Saturday’s American Idols Live! Tour 2010 at the United Center
CTA will operate its #19 United Center Express buses before and after the American Idols Live! Tour 2010 on Saturday, August 28, at the United Center. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m.
Buses will leave every 12-15 minutes from Michigan and Randolph beginning 90 minutes before the start of the event. At the conclusion of the event, #19 buses will depart the United Center approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.
#19 buses no longer make stops along Michigan Avenue north of Randolph, but continue to make all stops on Madison from Wabash to Clinton. From Clinton, #19 buses run express to the United Center.
After the event, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3. On the return trip, #19 buses will operate east on Washington to Wacker, then head south to Monroe and east to Michigan, making all stops from Jefferson to Michigan before turning north on Michigan and making the final stop at Randolph.
New/Updated Changes in Bus Service
NEW: Changes to #72 North Avenue Bus Stops Near the North/Clybourn Red Line Station
Effective at the start of service on Tuesday, August 31, the following changes will be made to bus stops served by eastbound #72 North Avenue buses:
- North/Clybourn Red Line Station: the mid-block stop in front of the station between Halsted and Clybourn will be returned to service.
- North Avenue/Clybourn: the temporary near side stop will be removed from service.
- North Avenue/Halsted: the temporary far side stop will be removed from service.
NEW: Temporary Changes to #51 51st Bus Stop
Effective at the start of service on Thursday, September 2 until Friday, October 29, the near side stop at 51st Street/Western Avenue served by eastbound #51 51st buses will be temporarily removed from service due to nearby construction. Customers can board eastbound #51 buses from the far side stop at 51st Street/Western Boulevard.
NEW: CFD Back to School Rally Detours #94 South California Buses on Thursday
From 9:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. Thursday, September 2, #94 South California buses will be detoured due to the closure of California Avenue at Fillmore for the annual Chicago Fire Department Back to School Rally.
Northbound #94 buses will operate over the regular route along California to Roosevelt then will travel via Roosevelt, Sacramento, Taylor to California and then resume the regular route. Southbound #94 buses will travel the reverse route.
NEW: Orleans Street Bridge Repair Works Detours Two Routes on Thursday
From 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Thursday, September 2, #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick and #!25 Water Tower Express buses will be rerouted due to the closure of the Orleans Street Bridge (over the main branch of the Chicago River) for repair work.
Northbound #11 buses will travel over the regular route along Franklin to Wacker then will operate via Wacker, LaSalle, Hubbard to Orleans and then resume the regular route. Southbound #11 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
Northbound #125 buses will operate over the regular route along Lake to Wacker then will travel via Wacker, LaSalle, Hubbard to Orleans and then resume the regular route. Southbound #125 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
UPDATE: Street Repair Work Detours Eastbound #74 Fullerton Buses
Currently in effect until further notice, #74 Fullerton buses are being detoured due to the closure of Webster Avenue between Halsted and Lincoln due to street repair work.
Eastbound #74 buses are operating over the regular route along Halsted to Belden then are traveling via Belden to Lincoln and resuming the regular route. Westbound #74 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
UPDATE: Sewer Construction Project at Wilson/Hermitage Detours Two Routes
Currently in effect until Monday, August 30, the intersection of Wilson/Hermitage is closed to all traffic due to a sewer construction project. During this time, #145 Wilson/Michigan Express and #148 Clarendon/Michigan Express buses are being detoured.
As a result of the street closure and height restrictions for articulated buses at the Wilson/Ravenswood viaduct, #145 and #148 buses are unable to serve the terminal at East Ravenswood/Wilson. Customers must board and exit #145 and #148 buses from West Ravenswood/Wilson.
Northbound #145 and #148 buses are operating over their regular routes along West Ravenswood past Leland to Wilson before beginning southbound service. From West Ravenswood/Wilson southbound #145 and #148 buses are traveling via Wilson, Damen, Lawrence, Ashland to Wilson and then resuming their regular routes.
Two CTA Bus Routes Detoured on Friday for “Transformers 3” Filming
From 5 a.m. until 10 p.m. Friday, August 27, #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick and #132 Goose Island Express buses will be detoured due to the closure of Van Buren Street between Wacker and Canal for “Transformers 3” movie filming.
Southbound #11 buses will travel over the regular route along Van Buren to Wacker then will operate via Wacker, Adams to Clinton and then resume the regular route. Northbound #11 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
Southbound #132 buses will operate over the regular route along Van Buren to Wacker then will travel via Wacker, Adams, Clinton, Jackson to Canal and then resume the regular route.
Daytime Reroute in Effect for #71 71st/South Shore Buses
Currently in effect from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. each day through Wednesday, September 15, #71 71st/South Shore buses are being rerouted due to the closure of the eastbound lanes of 71st Street between Dorchester and Dante for emergency sewer repair work.
Eastbound #71 buses are traveling over the regular route along 71st Street to Dorchester then are operating via Dorchester, 73rd Street, Stony Island to 71st Street and resuming the regular route. Westbound #71 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
Taste of Greece Festival Detours #8 Halsted and #126 Jackson Buses
From 4 a.m. Saturday, August 28 until 11 p.m. Sunday, August 29, #8 Halsted and #126 Jackson buses will be detoured due to the closure of Halsted Street between Monroe and Van Buren for the annual Taste of Greece Festival.
Northbound #8 buses will operate over the regular route along Halsted to Harrison then will travel via Harrison, Jefferson, Madison to Halsted and then resume the regular route. Southbound #8 buses will travel over the regular route along Halsted to Madison then will operate via Madison, Desplaines, Harrison to Halsted and then resume the regular route.
Eastbound #126 buses will operate over the regular route along Jackson to Morgan then will travel via Morgan, Van Buren, Jefferson to Jackson and then resume the regular route. Westbound #126 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
#78 Montrose Buses Rerouted Saturday Morning
From 6 a.m. until noon Saturday, August 28, #78 Montrose buses will be rerouted due to the closure of Simonds Drive between Montrose and Wilson for the Kids Fleet Feet Sports Super Sprint Triathlon.
Eastbound #78 Montrose buses only will travel as far east as Wilson/Marine before traveling south on Marine to Montrose to begin westbound service. Westbound #78 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
International Marcus Garvey Parade Detours Four Routes on Saturday Morning
The International Marcus Garvey Parade will be held on Saturday, August 28 from 10 a.m. until noon. During this time, buses operating along the #4 Cottage Grove, #29 State, #75 74th/75th and #79 79th routes will be subject to intermittent reroutes at which time buses will be temporarily detoured to adjacent streets.
Parade participants will assemble at Cottage Grove/76th Street and proceed south to 79th Street, west on 79th Street to State, north on State to 75th Street, east on 75th Street to Cottage Grove, south on Cottage Grove to 76th Street and disband.
Three Routes Detoured for the Chicago Triathlon This Weekend
Beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 28 until 7 p.m. Sunday, August 29, Columbus Drive between Roosevelt and Balbo will be closed for the Chicago Triathlon (set-up, event and clean-up). The event steps off at 6 a.m. on Sunday. During this time, #6 Jackson Park Express, #10 Museum of Science & Industry and #14 Jeffery Express buses will be rerouted to adjacent streets to maintain service.
Northbound #6, #10 and #14 buses will travel over their regular routes along Columbus to Roosevelt then will operate via Roosevelt to Michigan and resume their regular routes.
Southbound #6, #10 and #14 buses will operate via Michigan, Roosevelt to Columbus and then will resume their regular routes.
Ongoing Bus Reroutes
#81 Lawrence Bus Stops near the Kennedy Expressway Temporarily Eliminated
Currently in effect until Tuesday, August 31, the eastbound and westbound near side bus stops on Lawrence at LeClaire served by #81 Lawrence buses have been temporarily removed from service due to rehabilitation work on the Lawrence Avenue viaduct.
Temporary Elimination of Bus Stop at Michigan/Delaware
Currently in effect until Tuesday, August 31, the southbound near side stop at Michigan/Delaware has been temporarily removed from service due to sidewalk reconstruction work.
This stop is served by #33 Mag Mile Express, #143 Stockton/Michigan Express, #144 Marine/Michigan Express, #145 Wilson/Michigan Express, #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express, #147 Outer Drive Express, #148 Clarendon/Michigan Express and #151 Sheridan buses.
Customers may board and exit these buses from the near side stop at Michigan/Pearson.
Railroad Crossing Repair Work Detours #86 Narragansett/Ridgeland Buses
Currently in effect until 6 a.m. Friday, September 3, #86 Narragansett/Ridgeland buses are being detoured due to the closure of Nagle Avenue between Avondale and Northwest Highway for Union Pacific railroad crossing repair work.
Northbound #86 buses will operate over the regular route along Nagle to Bryn Mawr then will travel via Bryn Mawr, Northwest Highway to Nagle and then resume the regular route.
Southbound #86 buses will travel over the regular route along Nagle to Northwest Highway then will operate via Northwest Highway, Bryn Mawr, Avondale to Nagle and then resume the regular route.
Temporary Relocation of #75 74th/75th Bus Stop at 75th Street/Jeffery
Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Thursday, September 30, the eastbound near side stop at 75th Street/Jeffery served by #75 74th/75th buses has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction.
Temporary Reroute in Effect for #78 Montrose Buses Due to Work at Clark/Wilson
Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Friday, October 29, #78 Montrose buses are temporarily unable to make turns at the intersection of Clark/Wilson due to a streetscape project.
Eastbound #78 Montrose buses are operating over the regular route along Montrose to Ashland then are traveling via Ashland, Wilson past Clark and then resuming the regular route east on Wilson. Westbound #78 buses are traveling the reverse route.
Buses Rerouted on Saturdays for the Near North Farmer’s Market
From 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Saturday through October 30, Division Street between State and Clark will be closed for the Near North Farmer’s Market, resulting in a detour of the #36 Broadway and #70 Division bus routes.
Southbound #36 buses will travel over the regular route along Clark past Division to Maple then will operate via Maple to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along State to Elm then will travel via Elm to Clark and then resume the regular route.
Eastbound #70 buses will travel over the regular route along Division to Clark and then will operate via Clark, Maple to Dearborn and then resume the regular route. Westbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
#111 Pullman/111th/115th Buses Undergo Reroutes Due to Bridge Repair Work
Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Sunday, October 31, the 111th Street Bridge over Interstate 57 (I-57) is closed to all traffic due to bridge and deck replacement work, resulting in a detour of the #111 Pullman/111th/115th bus route.
Southbound #111 buses are operating over the regular route along 111th Street to Marshfield then traveling via Marshfield, 112th Place, Hamlet to 111th Street and then resuming the regular route east on 111th Street.
Northbound #111 buses are traveling over the regular route along 111th Street to Throop then operating via Throop, 107th Street, Vincennes and then resuming the regular route south on Vincennes past 111th Street.
Change to Bus Stop along #156 LaSalle Bus Route
A traffic lane reduction is in effect at LaSalle/Kinzie due to a Commonwealth Edison project. As a result, the northbound far side stop served by #156 LaSalle buses has been temporarily removed from service until Friday, November 12.
Temporary Relocation of Bus Stop at Jeffery/75th Street
Currently in effect until further notice, the southbound far side bus stop at Jeffery/75th Street has been temporarily relocated to a near side stop due to sidewalk construction. This stop is served by southbound #14 Jeffery Express and #15 Jeffery Local buses.
Temporary Changes in Service for #21 Cermak and #62 Archer Buses Serving the Cermak-Chinatown Station
Currently in effect, customers at the Cermak-Chinatown Red Line station must use the new entrance located on Archer Avenue approximately one block north of Cermak. This entrance will serve as the primary access point for customers while the main entrance to the station on the north side of Cermak is reconstructed and made accessible.
As a result of these changes, and to accommodate customers transferring between bus and rail services, the following changes have been made to buses serving the station:
#21 Cermak
Eastbound #21 Cermak buses are traveling over the regular route along Cermak to Wentworth then operating via Wentworth, Archer, Clark to Cermak and resuming the regular route. Westbound #21 buses are traveling the reverse route.
- Cermak/Wentworth: the near side stop at Cermak/Wentworth served by eastbound #21 buses has been temporarily removed from service.
- Wentworth/Cermak: new temporary stops have been added at Wentworth/Cermak for eastbound and westbound #21 buses. Eastbound customers must board and exit buses from the far side stop; westbound customers must board and exit buses from the near side stop.
- Cermak/Red Line Station: the mid-block stop near the Cermak Road entrance of the Cermak-Chinatown station has been temporarily removed from service.
- Archer/Red Line Station: eastbound #21 buses are serving the new temporary mid-block stop near the Archer Avenue entrance of the Cermak-Chinatown station.
- Wentworth/Archer: westbound #21 buses are serving the new temporary far side stop at Wentworth/Archer.
#62 Archer
- Archer/Wentworth: the northbound near side stop at Archer/Wentworth served by #62 buses has been removed from service.
- Archer/Red Line Station: northbound #62 buses are serving the new mid-block stop near the Archer Avenue entrance of the Cermak-Chinatown station.
#56 Milwaukee Bus Stop at Milwaukee/Diversey Temporarily Relocated
Until further notice, the southbound near side bus stop at Milwaukee/Diversey served by #56 Milwaukee buses has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop.
Lane Restrictions near State and Grand Detour #29 State and #36 Broadway Buses
Due to lane restrictions associated with the Grand/State Red Line rehabilitation project at the northwest corner of State Street and Grand Avenue, #29 State and #36 Broadway buses are being detoured to adjacent streets until further notice.
Southbound #29 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand past State to Clark then traveling via Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #29 buses are traveling along the remaining open lane along State and over the regular route.
Southbound #36 buses are traveling over the regular route along State to Ontario then operating via Ontario, Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #36 buses are operating over the regular route along Dearborn past Illinois to Ohio then traveling via Ohio to State and resuming the regular route.
Temporary Changes to Bus Stops near Sheridan/Foster
Currently in effect until further notice, the northbound near side stop at Sheridan/Foster has been temporarily removed from service due to the demolition and reconstruction of a nearby building. This stop is served by #136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express, #147 Outer Drive Express and #151 Sheridan buses.
Temporary Removal of #126 Jackson Bus Stop at Jackson/Sangamon
Currently in effect until Friday, September 30, 2011, the eastbound far side stop at Jackson/Sangamon served by #126 Jackson buses has been temporarily removed from service due to nearby construction. Customers may board and exit eastbound #126 buses at either Jackson/Morgan or Jackson/Peoria.
Service Adjustments Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project
Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project, Franklin Street between Harrison and Van Buren and Lower Wacker Drive between Randolph and Harrison are closed until May 2012. As a result of these closures and other street reconfigurations, the following changes in bus service currently are in effect:
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
Northbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses are traveling over the regular route along Harrison to Canal then are operating via Canal, Jackson to Franklin and resuming the regular route. Southbound #11 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
The following temporary changes also have been made to bus stops served by northbound #11 buses:
- Canal/Harrison: a far side stop has been added to service.
- Canal/Jackson: a near side stop has been added to service.
- Jackson at the Chicago River: a near side stop has been added to service.
- 404 W. Harrison: the mid-block stop has been removed from service.
- Franklin/Van Buren: the far side stop has been removed from service.
#121 Union/Wacker Express
Northbound #121 Union/Wacker Express buses are operating over the regular route along Jackson past Wacker to Franklin then are traveling via Franklin, Lake, Post Place to Lower Wacker and then resuming the regular route.
Southbound #121 buses are operating over the regular route along Lower Wacker to the exit ramp for Upper Wacker and then traveling via Upper Wacker to Adams and resuming the regular route west on Adams.
#135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express buses are traveling south on Wacker to Jackson then are traveling east on Jackson past Franklin and resuming the regular route.
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #135 buses:
- Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
- Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
#136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #136 Sheridan/LaSalle buses are operating south on Wacker to Van Buren then are traveling via Van Buren, Canal to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #136 buses:
- Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
- Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
#156 LaSalle (PM Service Only)
During the evening rush period only, northbound #156 LaSalle buses departing from Union Station are traveling west on Van Buren to Wacker then are operating via Wacker to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
The following temporary bus stop change has been made and is in effect for northbound #156 buses during the evening rush period only:
- Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
