Events Affecting CTA Service Beginning the Weekend of August 26-28

NOTE: effective Thursday, September 1, the Regional Transportation Authority’s (RTA) Seniors Ride Free farecards will no longer be accepted when paying on CTA buses or at rail stations. (see separate release for details)
 

Blue Line – Events Affecting Service

Late Night Boarding Changes in Effect at the Logan Square Station

All late night Blue Line trains will be routed to operate on the southbound (to Forest Park) tracks between the California and Belmont stations from 10 p.m. Friday, August 26 until 6 a.m. the following morning, due to station and tunnel repair work.
 
Northbound (to O’Hare) customers at the Logan Square station must board and exit trains from the southbound (to Forest Park) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 
Saturday Night – Affecting Southbound (to Forest Park) Trains
From 10 p.m. Saturday, August 27 until 6 a.m. the following morning, southbound (to Forest Park) Blue Line customers at the Logan Square station must board and exit trains from the northbound (to O’Hare) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Late Night Boarding Changes at the Rosemont Station

All late night Blue Line trains will be routed to operate on the northbound (to O’Hare) tracks at the Rosemont station from 11 p.m. Tuesday, August 30 until 4 a.m. the following morning and then again from 11 p.m. Wednesday, August 31 until 4 a.m. the following morning, due to track maintenance work.
 
During these times, southbound (to Forest Park) customers at the Rosemont station must board and exit trains from the northbound (to O’Hare) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Late Night Two-Phase Single Track Operation in Effect on O’Hare Branch

A two-phase single track operation will be in effect for all late night Blue Line trains serving the Rosemont and Cumberland stations beginning Wednesday night, August 31, due to track maintenance work.
 
Phase I – at Cumberland
From 11 p.m. Wednesday, August 31 until 1 a.m. the following morning, Blue Line customers at the Cumberland station traveling southbound (to Forest Park) must board and exit trains from the northbound (to O’Hare) side of the platform.
 
Phase II – at Rosemont and Cumberland
From 1 a.m. until 4 a.m. Thursday, September 1, Blue Line customers at the Rosemont and Cumberland stations traveling southbound (to Forest Park) must board and exit trains from the northbound (to O’Hare) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Late Night Boarding Changes at the Cumberland Station on Thursday

All late night Blue Line trains will be routed to operate on the northbound (to O’Hare) tracks at the Cumberland station from 11 p.m. Thursday, September 1 until 4 a.m. the following morning, due to track maintenance work.
 
Southbound (to Forest Park) customers at the Cumberland station must board and exit trains from the northbound (to O’Hare) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Orange Line – Events Affecting Service

Work Closes Main Entrance to Western Orange Line Station This Weekend

The main entrance to the Western Orange Line station will be temporarily closed on Saturday, August 27 and Sunday, August 28; however, customers will be able to use the auxiliary entrance/exit located across the street on the west side of Western Avenue.
 
While crews perform maintenance work within the main stationhouse customers will not be able to access the station elevator, escalator or the transit card vending machines (TCVMs). To accommodate customers with disabilities a shuttle bus will be available and will travel between the 35th/Archer and Western Orange Line stations.
 
Because riders will not have access to the station’s farecard vending machine, customers are asked to buy farecards in advance with sufficient value or to add enough value to their existing farecards (either the Chicago Card or magnetic strip Transit Card) to cover their weekend travel plans.
 
The main entrance to the Western station will re-open for the start of service (approximately 3:45 a.m.) on Monday, August 29.
 
Alternate Service for Customers with Disabilities
Customers at the Western station who require an elevator to access rail service will need to board the CTA shuttle bus and travel to the accessible 35th/Archer Orange Line station.
 
Orange Line customers traveling to the Western station who require access to an elevator will need to travel to the accessible 35th/Archer station and then board a CTA shuttle bus traveling to the Western station.
 

Orange and Pink Lines – Loop Elevated Service

Orange and Pink Line Trains Rerouted in the Loop on Sunday

Northbound (to the Loop) Orange Line and eastbound (to the Loop) Pink Line trains will be rerouted to operate on the outer elevated tracks – the same side served by Brown Line trains. The reroutes will be in effect beginning at the start of service until approximately 5 p.m. on Sunday, August 28, while crews perform structure renewal work.
 
Orange Line trains from Midway will be rerouted from the inner tracks to the outer Loop tracks, and travel counterclockwise. Entering the Loop, Orange Line trains will make their first stop at Adams/Wabash followed by Madison/Wabash, Randolph/Wabash, State/Lake, Clark/Lake, Washington/Wells, Quincy/Wells, LaSalle/Van Buren and Harold Washington Library/Van Buren, then proceed to Roosevelt and resume the normal route.
 
Pink Line trains will enter the Loop from Clinton and be rerouted to the outer Loop tracks. Entering the Loop from Clinton, Pink Line trains will make their first stop at Washington/Wells, then Quincy/Wells, LaSalle/Van Buren, Harold Washington Library/Van Buren, Adams/Wabash, Madison/Wabash, Randolph/Wabash, State/Lake, Clark/Lake then proceed to Clinton and resume the normal route.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the route of each train.
 

Red Line – Events Affecting Service

Late Night Trains Operating on Same Tracks at the 69th Street Station

All late night Red Line trains will be routed to operate on the northbound (to Howard) tracks at the 69th Street station this weekend and next week due to track maintenance work.
 
Friday and Saturday Nights
From 10 p.m. Friday, August 26 until 6 a.m. the following morning and then again from 10 p.m. Saturday, August 27 until 6 a.m. the following morning, southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) customers at the 69th Street station must board and exit trains from the northbound (to Howard) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 
Next Week
From 10:30 p.m. each night until 4:30 a.m. the following morning beginning Monday night August 29 through Friday morning, September 2, southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) customers at the 69th Street station must board and exit trains from the northbound (to Howard) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Late Night Trains Operating on Same Tracks between Lake and North/Clybourn

All late night Red Line trains will be routed to operate on the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) tracks between the Lake and North/Clybourn stations from 11 p.m. Sunday, August 28 until 4 a.m. the following morning, to allow crews to power wash the tunnel walls.
 
Northbound (to Howard) customers at the Grand and Chicago stations must board and exit trains from the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) platform.
 
Northbound (to Howard) customers at the Clark/Division station must board and exit trains from the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Yellow Line – Events Affecting Service

Service Temporarily Suspended along the Yellow Line This Weekend

Due to work associated with the construction of the new Oakton Street station, rail service along the Yellow Line will be temporarily suspended on Saturday, August 27 and Sunday, August 28.
 
From 6:15 a.m. until 11:15 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, bus shuttles will operate an express route between the Howard and Skokie stations as a substitute for rail service. The shuttles will depart from the Howard and Skokie stations approximately every 15 minutes. Customers also can take the #97 Skokie as an alternate service option between the two stations.
 
Yellow Line trains will resume operating at their regularly scheduled time on Monday, August 29.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. 
 

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

Temporary Removal of Bus Stop at Stony Island/83rd Street

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, November 18, the northbound near side stop at Stony Island/83rd Street has been temporarily removed from service due to a water management construction project. This stop is served by #28 Stony Island and #X28 Stony Island Express buses.
 

Temporary Relocation of #93 California/Dodge Bus Stop at Lawrence/Christiana

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, September 16, the northbound near side stop at Lawrence/Christiana has been temporarily relocated 60 feet east of its original location. This stop is served by #93 California/Dodge buses.
 

Southbound #201 Central/Ridge Buses Temporarily Detoured

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Wednesday, August 31, southbound #201 Central/Ridge buses are being detoured due to construction at the southeast corner of Davis/Ridge.
 
Southbound #201 buses are traveling over the regular route along Davis past Ridge to Asbury then are operating via Asbury, Lake to Ridge and then resuming the regular route. Northbound #201 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 

Temporary Removal of Bus Stop at Clark/Randolph

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Tuesday, August 30, the southbound near side stop at Clark/Randolph has been temporarily removed from service due to the replacement of a ComEd substation at Washington/Clark. This stop is served by #22 Clark and #24 Wentworth buses.
 

Temporary Relocation of #80 Irving Park Bus Stop at Irving Park/Monticello

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Thursday, September 1, the westbound near side stop at Irving Park/Monticello has been temporarily relocated one-block east to a near side stop at Irving Park/Central Park due to bus pad construction work. This stop is served by #80 Irving Park buses.
 

Two Routes Temporarily Detoured Friday Night for Wacker Drive Work

From 7 p.m. Friday, August 26 until approximately 6 a.m. Saturday, August 27, eastbound #20 Madison and southbound #56 Milwaukee buses will be detoured due to the closure of Washington Street between Clinton and Franklin for work associated with the Wacker Drive reconstruction project.
 
Eastbound #20 and southbound #56 buses will travel over their regular routes along Washington to Clinton then will operate via Clinton, Monroe, Franklin to Washington and then resume their regular routes. Westbound #20 and northbound #56 buses are not affected and will travel over their regular routes.
 

Food Trucks Social Event Detours #9 Ashland Buses This Weekend

From 1 a.m. Saturday, August 27 until approximately 5 a.m. Sunday, August 28, #9 Ashland buses will be detoured due to the closure of Ashland between Chicago and Superior for the Food Trucks Social event.
 
Northbound #9 buses will operate over the regular route along Ashland to Huron then will travel via Huron, Noble, Chicago to Ashland and then resume the regular route. Southbound #9 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Taste of Greece Festival Detours #8 Halsted Buses This Weekend

From 4 a.m. Saturday, August 27 until approximately 2 a.m. Monday, August 29, #8 Halsted buses will be detoured due to the closure of Halsted Street between Monroe and Van Buren for the annual Taste of Greece Festival.
 
Northbound #8 buses will operate over the regular route along Halsted to Harrison then will travel via Harrison, Jefferson, Madison to Halsted and then resume the regular route. Southbound #8 buses will travel over the regular route along Halsted to Madison then will operate via Madison, Desplaines, Harrison to Halsted and then resume the regular route.
 

Bus Service to Montrose Beach Temporarily Unavailable Saturday Morning

From 6 a.m. until approximately noon Saturday, August 27, #78 Montrose buses temporarily will be unable to serve the beach due to the closure of Simonds Drive between Montrose and Wilson for the Kids Fleet Feet Sports Super Sprint Triathlon event. Eastbound buses will only operate to Montrose/Marine before turning to begin westbound service. Service to the beach will resume upon completion of the event.
 

Three Routes Detoured for the Chicago Triathlon This Weekend

From 2 p.m. Saturday, August 27 until approximately 7 p.m. Sunday, August 28, #6 Jackson Park, #10 Museum of Science & Industry and #14 Jeffery Express buses will be detoured due to the closure of Columbus Drive between Roosevelt and Balbo for the Chicago Triathlon (set-up, event and clean-up). The event steps off at 6 a.m. on Sunday.
 
Northbound #6, #10 and #14 buses will travel over their regular routes along Columbus to Roosevelt then will operate via Roosevelt to Michigan and resume their regular routes.
 
Southbound #6, #10 and #14 buses will operate via Michigan, Roosevelt to Columbus and then will resume their regular routes.
 

Sewer Construction Project Detours Westbound #152 Addison Buses Next Week

From 9 a.m. Monday, August 29 until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, September 2, westbound #152 Addison buses will be detoured due to the closure of the westbound lanes of Addison at Lamon for a sewer construction project.
 
Westbound #152 buses will travel over the regular route along Addison to Cicero then will operate via Cicero, Irving Park, Laramie to Addison and then resume the regular route.
 

Ongoing Bus Service Changes

Temporary Removal of Bus Stop at Hyde Park/Cornell

Currently in effect until approximately 4 a.m. Monday, September 5, the northbound far side stop at Hyde Park/Cornell has been temporarily removed from service due to a street and curb reconstruction project. This stop is served by #6 Jackson Park Express and #X28 Stony Island Express buses.
 

Temporary Relocation of #54 Cicero Bus Stop

Currently in effect until approximately 4 a.m. Monday, September 5, the southbound near side stop at Cicero/Lake (at the Green Line) has been relocated to a far side stop due to the demolition of a nearby building. This stop is served by #54 Cicero buses.
 

Temporary Relocation of #21 Cermak Bus Stop at Cermak/Ashland

Currently in effect until approximately 4 a.m. Friday, September 9, the westbound near side stop at Cermak/Ashland has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop due to a sidewalk construction project. This stop is served by #21 Cermak buses.
 

Water Department Project on Madison Detours Two Westbound Bus Routes

Currently in effect until approximately 6 a.m. Monday, September 12, westbound #19 United Center Express and #20 Madison buses are being rerouted due to a Water Department project on Madison between LaSalle and Franklin that is expected to result in heavy traffic congestion.
 
Westbound #19 and #20 buses will instead travel along Madison to LaSalle then will operate via LaSalle, Randolph, Clinton to Madison and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #19 and #20 buses are not affected and will travel over their regular routes.
 
(NOTE: this reroute supersedes the reroute previously in place for westbound #19 and #20 buses as part of the Stage II Wacker Drive detours)
 

#26 South Shore Express and #30 South Chicago Buses Detoured

Currently in effect until approximately 2 p.m. Friday, September 16, #26 South Shore Express and #30 South Chicago buses are being detoured due to the closure of the 92nd Street Bridge over the Calumet River for repair work.
 
Southbound #26 and #30 buses are traveling over their regular routes along 91st Street to Mackinaw then are operating via Mackinaw, Harbor, South Chicago, 95th Street to Ewing and then resuming their regular routes. Northbound #26 and #30 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Repairs to Bridge Detour #111 Pullman/111th/115th Buses

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, September 30, #111 Pullman/111th/115th buses are being detoured from Cottage Grove between 98th Street and 100th Place due to bridge repair work.
 
Southbound #111 buses are traveling over the regular route along 95th Street to King Drive then operating via King Drive, 100th Street to Cottage Grove and resuming the regular route. Northbound #111 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Near North Farmer’s Market Detours #36 Broadway and #70 Division Buses

From 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Saturday through October 29, #36 Broadway and #70 Division buses will be detoured due to the closure of Division Street between State and Clark for the Near North Farmer’s Market.
 
Southbound #36 buses will travel over the regular route along Clark past Division to Maple then will operate via Maple to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along State to Elm then will travel via Elm to Clark and then resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #70 buses will travel over the regular route along Division to Clark and then will operate via Clark, Maple to Dearborn and then resume the regular route. Westbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route. 
 

Construction Detours #20 Madison and #90 Harlem Buses Until December

Currently in effect until Friday, December 2, eastbound #20 Madison (Owl service) buses and #90 Harlem buses are being detoured due to the closure of North Boulevard and South Boulevard between Marion and Home for a construction project.
 
Eastbound #20 (Owl service) buses are operating over the regular route along Harlem past North Boulevard to Washington then are traveling via Washington, Maple, Randolph, Harlem to Lake and resuming the regular route. Westbound #20 (Owl service) buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 
Southbound #90 buses are traveling over the regular route along Harlem past North Boulevard to Washington then are operating via Washington, Maple, Randolph, Harlem to Harlem/South Boulevard before beginning northbound service. From Harlem/South Boulevard, northbound #90 buses are traveling north on Harlem over the regular route.
 

Lane Restrictions near State and Grand Detour #29 State and #36 Broadway Buses

Due to lane restrictions associated with the Grand Red Line rehabilitation project at the northwest corner of State and Grand, #29 State and #36 Broadway buses are being detoured to adjacent streets until further notice.
 
Southbound #29 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand past State to Clark then traveling via Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #29 buses are traveling along the remaining open lane along State and over the regular route.
 
Southbound #36 buses are traveling over the regular route along State to Ontario then are operating via Ontario, Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #36 buses are operating over the regular route along Dearborn past Illinois to Ohio then traveling via Ohio to State and resuming the regular route.
 

Changes in Service along #8 Halsted Route for Bridge Reconstruction Project

Currently in effect until late-December 2011, Halsted Street between Division and the north branch of the Chicago River is closed due to a bridge reconstruction project.
 
Northbound #8 Halsted buses are traveling over the regular route along Halsted past Chicago to North Branch then are operating via North Branch, Cherry, Division to Halsted and then resuming the regular route. Southbound #8 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 
Changes to Bus Stops
  • Halsted/North Branch: the northbound far side stop on Halsted has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop on North Branch at Halsted.
  • Halsted/Division: the southbound far side stop has been temporarily relocated to a near side stop.
 

Service Changes to 14 Downtown Bus Routes for Stage II of Wacker Drive Project

Currently in effect, changes in service have been made to 14 CTA bus routes that operate in the downtown area near Wacker Drive and Madison due to work associated with Stage II of the Wacker Drive construction project.
 
Construction on Wacker Drive will result in changes along the following routes: 
 
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick (bus stops only)
#121 Union/Wacker Express
#14 Jeffery Express
#122 Illinois Center/Ogilvie Express
#19 United Center Express
#123 Illinois Center/Union Express
#20 Madison
#124 Navy Pier
#56 Milwaukee
#125 Water Tower Express
#60 Blue Island/26th
#129 West Loop/South Loop
#120 Ogilvie/Wacker Express
#157 Streeterville/Taylor

Service Adjustments Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project

Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project, Franklin Street between Harrison and Van Buren and Lower Wacker Drive between Randolph and Harrison are closed until May 2012. As a result of these closures and other street reconfigurations, the following changes in bus service currently are in effect:
 
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
Northbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses are traveling over the regular route along Harrison to Canal then are operating via Canal, Jackson to Franklin and resuming the regular route. Southbound #11 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes also have been made to bus stops served by northbound #11 buses:
 
  • Canal/Harrison: a far side stop has been added to service.
  • Canal/Jackson: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Jackson at the Chicago River: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • 404 W. Harrison: the mid-block stop has been removed from service.
  • Franklin/Van Buren: the far side stop has been removed from service.
 
#121 Union/Wacker Express
Northbound #121 Union/Wacker Express buses are operating over the regular route along Jackson past Wacker to Franklin then are traveling via Franklin, Lake, Post Place to Lower Wacker and then resuming the regular route.
 
Southbound #121 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand to Wabash then traveling via Wabash, Wacker, Franklin to Adams and then resuming the regular route.
 
#135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express buses are traveling south on Wacker to Jackson then are traveling east on Jackson past Franklin and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #135 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express buses are operating south on Wacker to Van Buren then are traveling via Van Buren, Canal to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #136 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#156 LaSalle (PM Service Only)
During the evening rush period only, northbound #156 LaSalle buses departing from Union Station are traveling west on Van Buren to Wacker then are operating via Wacker to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary bus stop change has been made and is in effect for northbound #156 buses during the evening rush period only: 
 
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 

Relocation of #36 Broadway Bus Stop Due to Nearby Construction

Currently in effect until Friday, July 12, 2013, the southbound near side stop at Broadway/Elmdale served by #36 Broadway buses has been relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction.
