Blue Line – Events Affecting Service

Nightly Closure of the Auxiliary Exit at the Logan Square Station This Weekend

The Spaulding Avenue auxiliary entrance/exit to the Logan Square Blue Line station will be temporarily closed two nights this weekend while crews perform repair work.
           
From 10 p.m. Friday, August 19 until 6 a.m. the following morning and then again from 10 p.m. Saturday, August 20 until 6 a.m. the following morning, customers will need to enter and exit the Logan Square station through one of the entrances located on Kedzie at Milwaukee.
 
Information and signage will be posted throughout the station alerting customers to these nightly closures and directing them to the appropriate entrance/exit.
 
Escalator Temporarily Out of Service
Also in effect until further notice, the escalator that leads from street level to mezzanine level at the north side entrance on Milwaukee is currently out of service. Customers at this location can use either the stairs or the elevator to access the Logan Square station.
 

Late Night Boarding Changes in Effect at the Logan Square Station

All late night Blue Line trains will be routed to operate on the same tracks between the Belmont and California stations from 10 p.m. Friday, August 19 until 6 a.m. the following morning, due to station and tunnel repair work.
 
Southbound (to Forest Park) customers at the Logan Square station must board and exit trains from the northbound (to O’Hare) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 
Saturday Night – Affecting Northbound (to O’Hare) Trains
From 10 p.m. Saturday, August 20 until 6 a.m. the following morning, northbound (to O’Hare) Blue Line customers at the Logan Square station must board and exit trains from the southbound (to Forest Park) side of the platform.
 
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Red Line – Events Affecting Service

Late Night Trains Operating on Same Tracks at the 69th Street Station

All late night Red Line trains will be routed to operate on the northbound (to Howard) tracks at the 69th Street station this weekend and next week due to track maintenance work.
 
Friday and Saturday Nights
From 10 p.m. Friday, August 19 until 6 a.m. the following morning and then again from 10 p.m. Saturday, August 20 until 6 a.m. the following morning, southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) customers at the 69th Street station must board and exit trains from the northbound (to Howard) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 
Next Week
From 10:30 p.m. each night until 4:30 a.m. the following morning beginning Monday night August 22 through Friday morning, August 26, southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) customers at the 69th Street station must board and exit trains from the northbound (to Howard) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Late Night Trains Operating on Same Tracks Between North/Clybourn and Lake

All late night Red Line trains will be routed to operate on the northbound (to Howard) tracks between the North/Clybourn and Lake stations from 11 p.m. Sunday, August 21 until 4 a.m. the following morning, due to crews power washing the tunnel walls.
 
Southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) customers at the Clark/Division station must board and exit trains from the northbound (to Howard) side of the platform.
 
Southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) customers at the Chicago and Grand stations must board and exit trains from the northbound (to Howard) platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Service for Upcoming Events

CTA Provides Service to the Lakefront’s Annual Air & Water Show

The CTA will provide additional bus and rail service for spectators heading to the annual Air & Water Show on Saturday, August 20 and Sunday, August 21. The event will take place along the lakefront from Oak Street Beach to Fullerton with the air and water performances combined into one show beginning at 10 a.m. and continuing until 3 p.m. on both days. The best viewing location will be at North Avenue Beach.
 
Due to anticipated heavy pedestrian and vehicle traffic, buses operating along the #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick, #22 Clark, #36 Broadway, #73 Armitage and #151 Sheridan routes will be temporarily detoured to adjacent streets to maintain service.  
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

Railroad Crossing Repair Work Detours #100 Jeffery Manor Express Buses

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Saturday, August 20, #100 Jeffery Manor Express buses are being detoured due to railroad crossing repair work along 106th Street near Torrence.
 
Eastbound #100 buses are operating over the regular route along Torrence to 104th Street then are traveling via 104th Street, Muskegon to 106th Street and then resuming the regular route. Westbound #100 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Changes to Bus Stops Along the #17 Westchester Route

Currently in effect, the following changes have been made to bus stops along the #17 Westchester bus route:
 
  • Madison/Park Avenue: buses are now serving the new eastbound and westbound near side stops.
  • 7800 Block of Madison Street: the eastbound and westbound stops located between Van Buren and Park Avenue (near the railroad crossing) have been removed from service.
  • Madison/Thatcher: the eastbound and westbound stops have been removed from service.
  • Madison/Maywood Public Works: buses are now serving the new eastbound near side stop and the new westbound mid-block stop.
  • Madison/5th Avenue: the eastbound and westbound near side stops have been relocated to far side stops.
  • Madison/7th Avenue: buses are now serving the new eastbound and westbound near side stops.
  • Madison/8th Avenue: the eastbound and westbound near side stops have been removed from service.
  • Madison/9th Avenue: buses are now serving the new eastbound and westbound far side stops.
  • Madison/13th Avenue: buses are now serving the new eastbound and westbound near side stops
  • Madison/14th Avenue: the eastbound and westbound near side stops have been removed from service.
  • Madison/15th Avenue: buses are now serving the new eastbound and westbound near side stops.
  • 25th Avenue/Madison (West Leg): buses are now serving the new eastbound and westbound far side stops.
  • Madison (West Leg)/25th Avenue: the eastbound and westbound far side stops have been removed from service.
 

Changes to #52 Kedzie/California and #82 Kimball/Homan Bus Stops

Currently in effect, the following changes have been made to bus stops served by #52 Kedzie/California and #82 Kimball/Homan buses:
 
#52 Kedzie/California
  • California/Elston: the northbound near side stop has been relocated to a far side stop at California/Belmont.
 
#82 Kimball/Homan
  • Kimball/Fullerton: the southbound near side stop has been relocated to a far side stop.
 

UPDATE: #26 South Shore Express and #30 South Chicago Buses Continue to be Detoured

Currently in effect until approximately 2 p.m. Friday, September 16, #26 South Shore Express and #30 South Chicago buses are being detoured due to the closure of the 92nd Street Bridge over the Calumet River for repair work.
 
Southbound #26 and #30 buses are traveling over their regular routes along 91st Street to Mackinaw then are operating via Mackinaw, Harbor, South Chicago, 95th Street to Ewing and then resuming their regular routes. Northbound #26 and #30 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Taste of Austin Detours #126 Jackson Buses This Weekend

From 6 a.m. Friday, August 19 until approximately 2 a.m. Monday, August 22, #126 Jackson buses will be detoured due to the closure of Jackson Boulevard between Central and Austin for the annual Taste of Austin event.
 
Westbound #126 buses will operate over the regular route along Jackson to Central then will travel via Central, Madison, Austin to Jackson and into the terminal. Eastbound #126 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Glenwood Avenue Arts Festival Detours Two Bus Routes This Weekend

From 9 a.m. Friday, August 19 until approximately 11:30 p.m. Sunday, August 21, #96 Lunt and #155 Devon buses will be detoured due to the closure of Morse Avenue between Greenview and the Morse Red Line station for the Glenwood Avenue Arts Festival.
 
Eastbound #96 buses will travel over the regular route to Ashland/Morse before turning to begin westbound service. From Ashland/Morse, westbound #96 buses will operate south on Ashland to Pratt then will travel via Pratt, Sheridan to Lunt and then resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #155 buses will travel over the regular route to Ashland/Morse before turning to begin westbound service. From Ashland/Morse, westbound #155 buses will operate via Ashland, Greenleaf to Sheridan and then resume the regular route past Morse.
 

9th Ward Back to School Parade and Picnic Detours Three Routes on Saturday

From 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, August 20, #34 South Michigan, #111 Pullman/111th/115th and #119 South Michigan/119th buses will be detoured due to the closure of Michigan Avenue between 111th and 127th streets, and 111th Street between King Drive and Michigan for the annual 9th Ward Back to School Parade and Picnic.
 
Southbound #34 buses will travel over the regular route along Michigan to 111th Street then will operate via 111th Street, State, 127th Street to Michigan and then resume the regular route. Northbound #34 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Southbound #111 buses will operate over the regular route along 115th Street to King Drive then will travel via King Drive, 107th Street, State to 115th Street and then resume the regular route.
 
Northbound #111 buses will travel over the regular route along 111th Street to King Drive then will operate via King Drive, 107th Street, State to 111th Street and then resume the regular route.
 
Southbound #119 buses will operate over the regular route along Michigan to 111th Street then will operate via 111th Street, State to 119th Street and then resume the regular route. Northbound buses will travel the reverse route.
 

6th Ward March Detours #3 King Drive Buses Saturday Morning

From 9:30 a.m. until approximately 11 a.m. Saturday, August 20, #3 King Drive buses will be detoured due to the closure of King Drive between 75th and 85th streets for the 6th Ward March.
 
Southbound #3 buses will travel over the regular route along King Drive to 75th Street then will operate via 75th Street, Lafayette, 87th Street to King Drive and then resume the regular route.
 
Northbound #3 buses will travel over the regular route along King Drive to 87th Street then will operate via 87th Street, State, 75th Street to King Drive and then resume the regular route.
 

Edison Park Fest Parade Detours #68 Northwest Highway Buses on Saturday

From 10:45 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. Saturday, August 20, #68 Northwest Highway buses will be detoured due to the closure of Northwest Highway between Oketo and Overhill for the Edison Park Fest Parade.
 
Northbound #68 buses will travel over the regular route along Northwest Highway to Devon then will operate via Devon, Canfield, Ozark to Northwest Highway and then resume the regular route. Southbound #68 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

India Independence Parade Reroutes #93 North California and #155 Devon Buses

From 11:30 a.m. until approximately 2 p.m. Saturday, August 20, #93 North California and #155 Devon buses will be detoured due to the closure of Devon Avenue between California and Western for the India Independence Parade.
 
Northbound #93 buses will operate over the regular route along California to Peterson then will travel via Peterson, Lincoln, Kedzie, Pratt to California and then resume the regular route. Southbound #93 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
From the Devon/Kedzie bus terminal, eastbound #155 buses will travel south on Kedzie to Lincoln then will operate via Lincoln, Peterson, Western to Devon and then resume the regular route. Westbound #155 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Altgeld Gardens Reunion Picnic Detours #34 South Michigan Buses on Sunday

From 5 a.m. until approximately 9 p.m. Sunday, August 21, #34 South Michigan buses will be detoured due to the closure of 133rd Place between Langley and Dobson for the Altgeld Gardens Reunion Picnic.
 
Southbound #34 buses will operate over the regular route to 132nd Street/Ellis before beginning northbound service. From Ellis/132nd Street, southbound #34 buses will travel south on Ellis to 131st Street then will operate via 131st Street to Langley and then resume the regular route.
 

Railroad Crossing Repairs Detour #71 71st/South Shore Buses (to 112th/Torrence)

From 6 a.m. Sunday, August 21 until approximately 4 p.m. Saturday, August, 27, #71 71st/South Shore (to 112th/Torrence buses only) will be detoured due to the closure of 104th Street between Torrence and Muskegon for railroad crossing repair work.
 
Southbound #71 buses will travel over the regular route along Commercial to Muskegon then will operate via Muskegon, 106th Street to Torrence and then resume the regular route. Northbound #71 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

#6 Jackson Park Express and #X28 Stony Island Express Buses Detoured on Wednesday

From 9 a.m. until approximately 1 p.m. Wednesday, August 24, #6 Jackson Park Express and #X28 Stony Island Express buses will be temporarily detoured due to the closure of the viaduct on Hyde Park Boulevard between Cornell and Lake Park due to a water tapping project.
 
Northbound #6 and #X28 buses will operate over their regular routes along Hyde Park to 53rd Street then will travel via 53rd Street to Lake Park and then resume the regular route north of Hyde Park Boulevard.
 

Ongoing Bus Service Changes

Temporary Relocation of Bus Stop at Randolph/State

Currently in effect until approximately 6 p.m. Monday, August 22, the westbound far side stop at Randolph/State has been temporarily relocated to a near side stop due to an ADA ramp and curb reconstruction project. This stop is served by #60 Blue Island, #124 Navy Pier and #157 Streeterville/Taylor buses.
 

Sewer Installation Project Detours #82 Kimball/Homan Buses

Currently in effect until approximately 6 p.m. Tuesday, August 23, #82 Kimball/Homan buses are being detoured due to the closure of Homan Avenue at Lake for a sewer installation project.
 
Northbound #82 buses are traveling over the regular route along Homan to Warren then are operating via Warren, Kedzie, Fulton to Homan and then resuming the regular route. Southbound #82 buses are traveling over the regular route along Homan to Fulton then are operating via Fulton, Kedzie, Washington to Homan and then resuming the regular route.
 

Bridge Repairs Detour #95E 93rd/95th and #N5 South Shore Night Buses

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, August 26, #95E 93rd/95th and #N5 South Shore Night buses are being detoured due to the closure of Exchange Avenue between 92nd Street and South Chicago Avenue for bridge repair work.
 
Eastbound #95E buses are operating over the regular route along 93rd Street to Anthony then are traveling via Anthony to 92nd Street and then resuming the regular route east of Commercial. Westbound #95E buses are traveling the reverse route.
 
Northbound #N5 buses are traveling over the regular route along 93rd Street to Anthony then are operating via Anthony, 92nd to Commercial and then resuming the regular route. Southbound #N5 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

#9 Ashland Buses Detoured Between 74th and 76th Streets for Bridge Repair Work

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Sunday, August 28, #9 Ashland buses are being detoured due to the closure of Ashland Avenue between 74th and 76th streets for bridge repair work.
 
Southbound #9 buses are traveling over the regular route along Ashland to 74th Street then are operating via 74th Street, Loomis, 76th Street to Ashland and then resuming the regular route. Northbound #9 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Temporary Removal of Bus Stop at Hyde Park/Cornell

Currently in effect until approximately 4 a.m. Monday, September 5, the northbound far side stop at Hyde Park/Cornell has been temporarily removed from service due to a street and curb reconstruction project. This stop is served by #6 Jackson Park Express and #X28 Stony Island Express buses.
 

Temporary Relocation of #54 Cicero Bus Stop

Currently in effect until approximately 4 a.m. Monday, September 5, the southbound near side stop at Cicero/Lake (at the Green Line) has been relocated to a far side stop due to the demolition of a nearby building. This stop is served by #54 Cicero buses.
 

Temporary Relocation of #21 Cermak Bus Stop at Cermak/Ashland

Currently in effect until approximately 4 a.m. Friday, September 9, the westbound near side stop at Cermak/Ashland will be temporarily relocated to a far side stop due to a sidewalk construction project. This stop is served by #21 Cermak buses.
 

Water Department Project on Madison Detours Two Westbound Bus Routes

Currently in effect until approximately 6 a.m. Monday, September 12, westbound #19 United Center Express and #20 Madison buses are being rerouted due to a Water Department project on Madison between LaSalle and Franklin that is expected to result in heavy traffic congestion.
 
Westbound #19 and #20 buses will instead travel along Madison to LaSalle then will operate via LaSalle, Randolph, Clinton to Madison and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #19 and #20 buses are not affected and will travel over their regular routes.
 
(NOTE: this reroute supersedes the reroute previously in place for westbound #19 and #20 buses as part of the Stage II Wacker Drive detours)
 

Repairs to Bridge Detour #111 Pullman/111th/115th Buses

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, September 30, #111 Pullman/111th/115th buses are being detoured from Cottage Grove between 98th Street and 100th Place due to bridge repair work.
 
Southbound #111 buses are traveling over the regular route along 95th Street to King Drive then operating via King Drive, 100th Street to Cottage Grove and resuming the regular route. Northbound #111 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Near North Farmer’s Market Detours #36 Broadway and #70 Division Buses

From 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Saturday through October 29, #36 Broadway and #70 Division buses will be detoured due to the closure of Division Street between State and Clark for the Near North Farmer’s Market.
 
Southbound #36 buses will travel over the regular route along Clark past Division to Maple then will operate via Maple to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along State to Elm then will travel via Elm to Clark and then resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #70 buses will travel over the regular route along Division to Clark and then will operate via Clark, Maple to Dearborn and then resume the regular route. Westbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route. 
 

Construction Detours #20 Madison and #90 Harlem Buses Until December

Currently in effect until Friday, December 2, eastbound #20 Madison (Owl service) buses and #90 Harlem buses are being detoured due to the closure of North Boulevard and South Boulevard between Marion and Home for a construction project.
 
Eastbound #20 (Owl service) buses are operating over the regular route along Harlem past North Boulevard to Washington then are traveling via Washington, Maple, Randolph, Harlem to Lake and resuming the regular route. Westbound #20 (Owl service) buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 
Southbound #90 buses are traveling over the regular route along Harlem past North Boulevard to Washington then are operating via Washington, Maple, Randolph, Harlem to Harlem/South Boulevard before beginning northbound service. From Harlem/South Boulevard, northbound #90 buses are traveling north on Harlem over the regular route.
 

Lane Restrictions near State and Grand Detour #29 State and #36 Broadway Buses

Due to lane restrictions associated with the Grand Red Line rehabilitation project at the northwest corner of State and Grand, #29 State and #36 Broadway buses are being detoured to adjacent streets until further notice.
 
Southbound #29 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand past State to Clark then traveling via Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #29 buses are traveling along the remaining open lane along State and over the regular route.
 
Southbound #36 buses are traveling over the regular route along State to Ontario then are operating via Ontario, Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #36 buses are operating over the regular route along Dearborn past Illinois to Ohio then traveling via Ohio to State and resuming the regular route.
 

Changes in Service along #8 Halsted Route for Bridge Reconstruction Project

Currently in effect until late-December 2011, Halsted Street between Division and the north branch of the Chicago River is closed due to a bridge reconstruction project.
 
Northbound #8 Halsted buses are traveling over the regular route along Halsted past Chicago to North Branch then are operating via North Branch, Cherry, Division to Halsted and then resuming the regular route. Southbound #8 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 
Changes to Bus Stops
  • Halsted/North Branch: the northbound far side stop on Halsted has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop on North Branch at Halsted.
  • Halsted/Division: the southbound far side stop has been temporarily relocated to a near side stop.
 

Service Changes to 14 Downtown Bus Routes for Stage II of Wacker Drive Project

Currently in effect, changes in service have been made to 14 CTA bus routes that operate in the downtown area near Wacker Drive and Madison due to work associated with Stage II of the Wacker Drive construction project.
 
Construction on Wacker Drive will result in changes along the following routes: 
 
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick (bus stops only)
#121 Union/Wacker Express
#14 Jeffery Express
#122 Illinois Center/Ogilvie Express
#19 United Center Express
#123 Illinois Center/Union Express
#20 Madison
#124 Navy Pier

Service Adjustments Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project

Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project, Franklin Street between Harrison and Van Buren and Lower Wacker Drive between Randolph and Harrison are closed until May 2012. As a result of these closures and other street reconfigurations, the following changes in bus service currently are in effect:
 
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
Northbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses are traveling over the regular route along Harrison to Canal then are operating via Canal, Jackson to Franklin and resuming the regular route. Southbound #11 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes also have been made to bus stops served by northbound #11 buses:
 
  • Canal/Harrison: a far side stop has been added to service.
  • Canal/Jackson: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Jackson at the Chicago River: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • 404 W. Harrison: the mid-block stop has been removed from service.
  • Franklin/Van Buren: the far side stop has been removed from service.
 
#121 Union/Wacker Express
Northbound #121 Union/Wacker Express buses are operating over the regular route along Jackson past Wacker to Franklin then are traveling via Franklin, Lake, Post Place to Lower Wacker and then resuming the regular route.
 
Southbound #121 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand to Wabash then traveling via Wabash, Wacker, Franklin to Adams and then resuming the regular route.
 
#135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express buses are traveling south on Wacker to Jackson then are traveling east on Jackson past Franklin and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #135 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express buses are operating south on Wacker to Van Buren then are traveling via Van Buren, Canal to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #136 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#156 LaSalle (PM Service Only)
During the evening rush period only, northbound #156 LaSalle buses departing from Union Station are traveling west on Van Buren to Wacker then are operating via Wacker to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary bus stop change has been made and is in effect for northbound #156 buses during the evening rush period only: 
 
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 

Relocation of #36 Broadway Bus Stop Due to Nearby Construction

Currently in effect until Friday, July 12, 2013, the southbound near side stop at Broadway/Elmdale served by #36 Broadway buses has been relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction.
