Blue Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Late Night Trains to Operate on the Same Track between Grand and LaSalle

All Blue Line trains will be routed to operate on the northbound (to O’Hare) tracks between the Grand and LaSalle stations from 10 p.m. Friday, August 13 until 4 a.m. the following morning and then again from 10 p.m. Saturday, August 14 until 4 a.m. the following morning, due to subway cleaning.
 
Blue Line customers at the Clark/Lake, Washington, Monroe and Jackson stations traveling southbound (to Forest Park) must board and exit trains from the northbound (to O’Hare) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Late Night Trains to Operate on the Same Tracks at the Jefferson Park Station Next Week

All Blue Line trains will be routed to operate on the southbound (to Forest Park) tracks at the Jefferson Park station from 10 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning  on Sunday night, August 15, Wednesday night, August 18 and Thursday night, August 19, due to structure repair work
 
Blue Line customers at the Jefferson Park station traveling northbound (to O’Hare) must board and exit trains from the southbound (to Forest Park) side of the platform. 
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

All Late Night Trains to Operate on the Same Tracks between UIC-Halsted and LaSalle Early Next Week

All trains operating on the Forest Park branch of the Blue Line will be routed to operate on the westbound (to Forest Park) tracks between the UIC-Halsted and LaSalle stations from 10 p.m. Monday, August 16 until 4 a.m. the following morning and then again from 10 p.m. Tuesday, August 17 until 4 a.m. the following morning, due to the installation of a new manhole in the subway.
 
During these times, Blue Line customers at the UIC-Halsted, Clinton and LaSalle stations traveling eastbound (to O’Hare) must board and exit trains from the westbound (to Forest Park) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Red Line – Other Events Affecting Service

All Late Night Trains to Operate on the Southbound Tracks at the 69th Station

Northbound (to Howard) Red Line trains will be routed to operate on the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) tracks at the 69th Street station from 10 p.m. each night until 4:30 a.m. the following morning beginning Sunday night, August 15 through Friday morning, August 20, due to track maintenance work.
 
During these times, Red Line customers traveling northbound (to Howard) must board and exit trains from the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Service for Upcoming Events

CTA Service for Events throughout Chicagoland This Weekend

CTA provides convenient and affordable service for spectators heading to the lakefront for the Air & Water Show, the Bud Billiken Parade on Chicago’s south side, the Detroit Tigers versus White Sox games at U.S. Cellular Field, and the Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band concert at Toyota Park this weekend.

Air and Water Show Detours #72 North Avenue Buses Until Mid-Monday

Currently in effect until noon Monday, August 16, the bus terminal at North Avenue Beach is closed to all traffic due to the Air and Water Show this weekend.
 
During this time, eastbound #72 North buses are traveling only as far east as North Avenue/LaSalle before operating north on LaSalle, south on Clark to Clark/North Avenue. Westbound buses are departing from North/Clark and are traveling west on North Avenue over the regular route.
 

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

Carnaval del Pueblo Detours #39 Pershing Buses Until Monday Morning

Currently in effect until approximately 5:20 a.m. Monday, August 16, #39 Pershing buses are being detoured in both directions due to the closure of Pershing Road between Rockwell and California for the Carnaval del Pueblo event.
 
Westbound #39 buses are traveling over the regular route along Archer past Pershing to California then are operating via California to Pershing and then resuming the regular route. Eastbound #39 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Changes to Bus Stops along Seven Routes

Currently in effect, the following changes have been made to bus stops along the #8A South Halsted, #12 Roosevelt, #29 State, #43 43rd, #52 Kedzie/California, #80 Irving Park and #108 Halsted/95th routes:
 
#8A South Halsted
  • Halsted/99th Street: the southbound near side stop has been relocated to a far side stop.
 
#12 Roosevelt
  • Roosevelt/Kedzie: the westbound far side stop has been returned to a near side stop.
  • Roosevelt/Keeler: the westbound far side stop has been returned to near side stop.
 
#29 State
  • 8800 S. Lafayette: the southbound near side stop has been relocated to the far side of the mall driveway.
  • Lafayette/89th Street: the southbound stop has been removed from service. 
 
#43 43rd
  • Root/Stewart: the eastbound and westbound stops have been removed from service.
 
#52 Kedzie/California
  • California/Armitage: the northbound far side stop has been returned to a near side stop.
 
#80 Irving Park
  • Irving Park/Southport: the westbound near side stop has been relocated to a far side stop. This location is also served by #9 Ashland buses.
 
#108 Halsted/95th
  • Halsted/99th Street: the southbound near side stop has been relocated to a far side stop.
 

Helicopter Lift Detours #60 Blue Island/26th Buses Early Saturday Morning

From 7 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Saturday, August 14, #60 Blue Island/26th buses will be detoured in both directions due to a helicopter lift that will close Harrison Street between Morgan and Halsted.

 
Eastbound #60 buses will operate over the regular route along Racine past Harrison to Jackson then will travel via Jackson, Halsted to Harrison and then resume the regular route.
 
Westbound #60 buses will travel over the regular route along Harrison to Halsted then will operate via Halsted, Van Buren, Racine to Harrison and then resume the regular route.
 

Railroad Crossing Repairs to Detour #111 Pullman/111th/115th Buses Next Week

From 7 a.m. Monday, August 16 through 4 p.m. Saturday, August 21, #111 Pullman/111th/115th buses will be rerouted due to the closure of the intersection at 111th Street/Eggleston for railroad crossing repair work.
 
Northbound #111 buses will travel over the regular route along 111th Street to Wentworth then will operate via Wentworth, 115th Street, Halsted to 111th Street and then resume the regular route. Southbound #111 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Temporary Changes to Bus Stops Served by 10 Routes

From 5 a.m. Monday, August 16 through 5 a.m. Monday, August 30, the following bus stop changes will be in effect due to the installation of new concrete bus pads along Michigan Avenue:
 
  • Michigan/Ontario: the northbound near side stop will be removed from service.
  • Michigan/Erie: a new northbound near side stop will be added to service.
  • Michigan/Huron: the northbound near side stop will be removed from service.
 
These bus stops are served by #3 King Drive, #26 South Shore Express, #125 Water Tower Express, #143 Stockton/Michigan Express, #144 Marine/Michigan Express, #145 Wilson/Michigan Express, #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express, #147 Outer Drive Express, #148 Clarendon/Michigan Express and #151 Sheridan buses.
 

Ongoing Bus Reroutes

Railroad Crossing Repair Work Detours #111 Pullman/111th/115th Buses

Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Saturday, August 14, 115th Street at Perry is closed to all traffic due to railroad crossing repair work, resulting in a reroute of #111 Pullman/111th/115th buses.
 
Westbound #111 buses are traveling over the regular route along 115th Street to State then are operating via State, 111th Street, Wentworth to 115th Street and then resuming the regular route. Eastbound #111 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Sewer Construction Project at Wilson/Hermitage Detours Two Bus Routes

Currently in effect until Wednesday, August 18, the intersection of Wilson/Hermitage is closed to all traffic due to a sewer construction project. During this time, #145 Wilson/Michigan Express and #148 Clarendon/Michigan Express buses are being detoured.
 
As a result of the street closure and height restrictions for articulated buses at the Wilson/Ravenswood viaduct, #145 and #148 buses are unable to serve the terminal at East Ravenswood/Wilson. Customers must board and exit #145 and #148 buses from West Ravenswood/Wilson.
 
Northbound #145 and #148 buses are operating over their regular routes along West Ravenswood past Leland to Wilson before beginning southbound service. From West Ravenswood/Wilson southbound #145 and #148 buses are traveling via Wilson, Damen, Lawrence, Ashland to Wilson and then resuming their regular routes.
 

Temporary Relocation of Bus Stop at LaSalle/Quincy

Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Friday, August 20, the northbound near side bus stop at LaSalle/Quincy has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction. This stop is served by #134 Stockton/LaSalle Express, #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express, #136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express and #156 LaSalle buses.
 

Water Main Construction Project Detours #97 Skokie Buses

Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Friday, August 20, #97 Skokie buses are being detoured from the intersection of Oakton and Dodge due to a lane reduction for a nearby water main construction project.
 
Westbound #97 buses are traveling over the regular route along Howard past Dodge to McCormick then are operating via McCormick to Oakton and then resuming the regular route. Eastbound #97 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Change to Bus Stop Served by #21 Cermak and #60 Blue Island/26th Street Buses

Due to a streetscape project, the westbound near side stop at Cermak/Laflin served by #21 Cermak and #60 Blue Island/26th buses has been temporarily removed from service until Monday, August 23.
 

#81 Lawrence Bus Stops near the Kennedy Expressway Temporarily Eliminated

Currently in effect until Tuesday, August 31, the eastbound and westbound near side bus stops on Lawrence at LeClaire served by #81 Lawrence buses have been temporarily removed from service due to rehabilitation work on the Lawrence Avenue viaduct.
 

Temporary Elimination of Bus Stop at Michigan/Delaware

Currently in effect until Tuesday, August 31, the southbound near side stop at Michigan/Delaware has been temporarily removed from service due to sidewalk reconstruction work.
 
This stop is served by #33 Mag Mile Express, #143 Stockton/Michigan Express, #144 Marine/Michigan Express, #145 Wilson/Michigan Express, #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express, #147 Outer Drive Express, #148 Clarendon/Michigan Express and #151 Sheridan buses.
 
Customers may board and exit these buses from the near side stop at Michigan/Pearson.
 

Temporary Relocation of #75 74th/75th Bus Stop at 75th Street/Jeffery

Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Thursday, September 30, the eastbound near side stop at 75th Street/Jeffery served by #75 74th/75th buses has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction.
 

Temporary Reroute in Effect for #78 Montrose Buses Due to Work at Clark/Wilson

Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Friday, October 29, #78 Montrose buses are temporarily unable to make turns at the intersection of Clark/Wilson due to a streetscape project.
 
Eastbound #78 Montrose buses are operating over the regular route along Montrose to Ashland then are traveling via Ashland, Wilson past Clark and then resuming the regular route east on Wilson. Westbound #78 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Buses Rerouted on Saturdays for the Near North Farmer’s Market

From 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Saturday through October 30, Division Street between State and Clark will be closed for the Near North Farmer’s Market, resulting in a detour of the #36 Broadway and #70 Division bus routes.
 
Southbound #36 buses will travel over the regular route along Clark past Division to Maple then will operate via Maple to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along State to Elm then will travel via Elm to Clark and then resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #70 buses will travel over the regular route along Division to Clark and then will operate via Clark, Maple to Dearborn and then resume the regular route. Westbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route. 
 

#111 Pullman/111th/115th Buses Undergo Reroutes Due to Bridge Repair Work

Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Sunday, October 31, the 111th Street Bridge over Interstate 57 (I-57) is closed to all traffic due to bridge and deck replacement work, resulting in a detour of the #111 Pullman/111th/115th bus route.
 
Southbound #111 buses are operating over the regular route along 111th Street to Marshfield then traveling via Marshfield, 112th Place, Hamlet to 111th Street and then resuming the regular route east on 111th Street.
 
Northbound #111 buses are traveling over the regular route along 111th Street to Throop then operating via Throop, 107th Street, Vincennes and then resuming the regular route south on Vincennes past 111th Street.
 

Change to Bus Stop along #156 LaSalle Bus Route

A traffic lane reduction is in effect at LaSalle/Kinzie due to a Commonwealth Edison project. As a result, the northbound far side stop served by #156 LaSalle buses has been temporarily removed from service until Friday, November 12.
 

Temporary Relocation of Bus Stop at Jeffery/75th Street

Currently in effect until further notice, the southbound far side bus stop at Jeffery/75th Street has been temporarily relocated to a near side stop due to sidewalk construction. This stop is served by southbound #14 Jeffery Express and #15 Jeffery Local buses.
 

Temporary Changes in Service for #21 Cermak and #62 Archer Buses Serving the Cermak-Chinatown Station

Currently in effect, customers at the Cermak-Chinatown Red Line station must use the new entrance located on Archer Avenue approximately one block north of Cermak. This entrance will serve as the primary access point for customers while the main entrance to the station on the north side of Cermak is reconstructed and made accessible. 
 
As a result of these changes, and to accommodate customers transferring between bus and rail services, the following changes have been made to buses serving the station:
 
#21 Cermak
Eastbound #21 Cermak buses are traveling over the regular route along Cermak to Wentworth then operating via Wentworth, Archer, Clark to Cermak and resuming the regular route. Westbound #21 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 
  • Cermak/Wentworth: the near side stop at Cermak/Wentworth served by eastbound #21 buses has been temporarily removed from service.
  • Wentworth/Cermak: new temporary stops have been added at Wentworth/Cermak for eastbound and westbound #21 buses. Eastbound customers must board and exit buses from the far side stop; westbound customers must board and exit buses from the near side stop.
  • Cermak/Red Line Station: the mid-block stop near the Cermak Road entrance of the Cermak-Chinatown station has been temporarily removed from service.
  • Archer/Red Line Station: eastbound #21 buses are serving the new temporary mid-block stop near the Archer Avenue entrance of the Cermak-Chinatown station.
  • Wentworth/Archer: westbound #21 buses are serving the new temporary far side stop at Wentworth/Archer.
 
#62 Archer
  • Archer/Wentworth: the northbound near side stop at Archer/Wentworth served by #62 buses has been removed from service.
  • Archer/Red Line Station: northbound #62 buses are serving the new mid-block stop near the Archer Avenue entrance of the Cermak-Chinatown station.
 

#56 Milwaukee Bus Stop at Milwaukee/Diversey Temporarily Relocated

Until further notice, the southbound near side bus stop at Milwaukee/Diversey served by #56 Milwaukee buses has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop.
 

Lane Restrictions near State and Grand Detour #29 State and #36 Broadway Buses

Due to lane restrictions associated with the Grand/State Red Line rehabilitation project at the northwest corner of State Street and Grand Avenue, #29 State and #36 Broadway buses are being detoured to adjacent streets until further notice.
 
Southbound #29 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand past State to Clark then traveling via Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #29 buses are traveling along the remaining open lane along State and over the regular route.
 
Southbound #36 buses are traveling over the regular route along State to Ontario then operating via Ontario, Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #36 buses are operating over the regular route along Dearborn past Illinois to Ohio then traveling via Ohio to State and resuming the regular route.
 

Temporary Changes to Bus Stops near Sheridan/Foster

Currently in effect until further notice, the northbound near side stop at Sheridan/Foster has been temporarily removed from service due to the demolition and reconstruction of a nearby building. This stop is served by #136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express, #147 Outer Drive Express and #151 Sheridan buses.
 

Temporary Removal of #126 Jackson Bus Stop at Jackson/Sangamon

Currently in effect until Friday, September 30, 2011, the eastbound far side stop at Jackson/Sangamon served by #126 Jackson buses has been temporarily removed from service due to nearby construction. Customers may board and exit eastbound #126 buses at either Jackson/Morgan or Jackson/Peoria.
 

Service Adjustments Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project

Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project, Franklin Street between Harrison and Van Buren and Lower Wacker Drive between Randolph and Harrison are closed until May 2012. As a result of these closures and other street reconfigurations, the following changes in bus service currently are in effect:
 
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
Northbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses are traveling over the regular route along Harrison to Canal then are operating via Canal, Jackson to Franklin and resuming the regular route. Southbound #11 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes also have been made to bus stops served by northbound #11 buses:
 
  • Canal/Harrison: a far side stop has been added to service.
  • Canal/Jackson: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Jackson at the Chicago River: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • 404 W. Harrison: the mid-block stop has been removed from service.
  • Franklin/Van Buren: the far side stop has been removed from service.
 
#121 Union/Wacker Express
Northbound #121 Union/Wacker Express buses are operating over the regular route along Jackson past Wacker to Franklin then are traveling via Franklin, Lake, Post Place to Lower Wacker and then resuming the regular route.
 
Southbound #121 buses are operating over the regular route along Lower Wacker to the exit ramp for Upper Wacker and then traveling via Upper Wacker to Adams and resuming the regular route west on Adams.
 
#135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express buses are traveling south on Wacker to Jackson then are traveling east on Jackson past Franklin and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #135 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #136 Sheridan/LaSalle buses are operating south on Wacker to Van Buren then are traveling via Van Buren, Canal to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #136 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#156 LaSalle (PM Service Only)
During the evening rush period only, northbound #156 LaSalle buses departing from Union Station are traveling west on Van Buren to Wacker then are operating via Wacker to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary bus stop change has been made and is in effect for northbound #156 buses during the evening rush period only: 
 
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
