Blue Line – Events Affecting Service

Daytime Work Affects Boarding at the Logan Square Station on Sunday

All Blue Line trains will be routed to operate on the northbound (to O’Hare) tracks between the Belmont and California stations from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 1, while crews replace portions of the third rail.
 
Southbound Blue Line customers at the Logan Square station must board and exit trains from the northbound side (to O’Hare) of the platform.
 
CTA operators will announce the direction of each train. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. 
 

Brown Line – Events Affecting Service

Maintenance Work Results in Boarding Changes at Three Stations on Sunday

All Brown Line trains will be routed to operate on the northbound (to Kimball) tracks between the Irving Park and Belmont stations from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 1, due to structure maintenance work.
 
Southbound Brown Line customers at the Addison, Paulina and Southport stations must board and exit trains from the northbound (to Kimball) platform.
 
CTA operators will announce the direction of each train. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. 
 

Red Line – Events Affecting Service

Late Night Trains to Operate on Same Tracks between North/Clybourn and Grand

All late night Red Line trains will be routed to operate on the northbound (to Howard) tracks between the North/Clybourn and Grand stations from 11 p.m. Sunday, May 1 until 4 a.m. the following morning due to sewer cleaning.
 
Customers at the Clark/Division station traveling southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) must board and exit trains from the northbound side (to Howard) of the platform.
 
Customers at the Chicago and Grand stations traveling southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) must board and exit trains from the northbound (to Howard) platform.
 
CTA operators will announce the direction of each train. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. 
 
Next Week – Affecting Northbound (to Howard)
From 11 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Monday, May 2 through Friday morning, May 6, all late night trains will be routed to operate on the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) tracks between the Grand and North/Clybourn stations due to sewer cleaning.
 
Northbound Red Line customers at the Grand and Chicago stations must board and exit trains from the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) platform.
 
Northbound Red Line customers at the Clark/Division station must board and exit trains from the southbound side (to 95th/Dan Ryan) of the platform.
 
CTA operators will announce the direction of each train. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. 
 

Service for Upcoming Events

CTA Service for Bulls Games at the United Center

CTA’s #19 United Center Express will provide service for fans heading to the Atlanta Hawks versus Chicago Bulls playoff games scheduled for the following days:
 
  • Game 1: Monday, May 2 at 7 p.m.
  • Game 2: Wednesday, May 4 at 7 p.m.
 
Buses will leave every 12-15 minutes from Michigan and Randolph beginning 90 minutes before the start of each event. After each event, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3 and will depart approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.
 
Temporary Changes in Routing for #19 Buses
Due to the Wacker Drive construction project, the following changes are in effect along the #19 route:
 
Eastbound #19 buses will operate over the regular route along Washington to Clinton then will travel via Clinton, Monroe, Franklin to Washington and then resume the regular route. In addition, the following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by eastbound buses only:
 
  • Clinton/Madison: buses are serving the southbound near side stop.
  • Monroe/Canal: buses are serving the eastbound far side stop.
  • Washington/Canal: buses are unable to serve the eastbound near side stop.
  • Washington/Franklin: the eastbound near side stop has been relocated to a far side stop.
 
Westbound #19 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route from Michigan/Randolph – making all stops on Madison from Wabash to Clinton and Halsted/Randolph before operating express to the United Center.
 
UPDATE: to improve service along the #19 route, the following bus stops have been permanently added to the route:
 
  • Washington/Halsted: eastbound buses are serving the far side stop, currently served by #20 Madison buses.
  • Randolph/Halsted: westbound buses are serving the new near side stop.
 

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

Temporary Relocation of #78 Montrose and #85 Central Bus Stops at Central/Montrose

Currently in effect until approximately 4 a.m. Tuesday, May 31, the following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by #78 Montrose and #85 Central buses due to sidewalk construction work:
 
#78 Montrose
  • Montrose/Central: the westbound far side stop has been relocated to a near side stop.
 
#85 Central
  • Central/Montrose: the southbound near side stop has been relocated to a far side stop.
 

Ravenswood 5K Run Detours Four CTA Bus Routes on Sunday

From 7 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Sunday, May 1, Wilson Avenue between Paulina and Leavitt; Damen Avenue between Giddings and Wilson; Leland Avenue between Paulina and Leavitt; and the westbound lanes of Irving Park Road between Hermitage and Paulina will be closed for the Ravenswood 5K Run.
 
As a result of these street closures, #50 Damen, #78 Montrose, #80 Irving Park and #145 Wilson/Michigan Express buses will be detoured to maintain service.  
 
Northbound #50 buses will operate over the regular route along Damen to Montrose then will travel via Montrose, Western, Lawrence then return to Damen and resume the regular route. Southbound #50 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Eastbound #78 buses will travel over the regular route along Montrose to Western, Lawrence, Ashland to Montrose and resume the regular route east on Montrose. Westbound #78 buses will travel over the regular route along Montrose to Ashland then will operate via Ashland, Lawrence, Western to Montrose and resume the regular route.
 
Westbound #80 buses will operate over the regular route along Irving Park to Ashland then will travel via Ashland, Addison, Damen to Irving Park and resume the regular route. Eastbound #80 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 
Northbound #145 buses will travel over the regular route along Wilson to Clark then will operate via Clark, Lawrence, Ashland to Wilson before turning to begin southbound service. From Ashland/Wilson southbound #145 buses will travel east along Wilson over the regular route.
 

Chicago Dia de Los Ninos Parade Reroutes Buses on Saturday

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 30, #9 Ashland, #18 16th/18th and #60 Blue Island/26th buses will be detoured due to the annual Chicago Dia de Los Ninos Parade.
 
Parade participants will assemble along Blue Island between 16th and 18th streets beginning at 10 a.m. The parade will step-off at noon and proceed west on 18th Street to Damen and disband at Harrison Park.
 
Northbound #9 buses will travel over the regular route along Ashland to Cermak then will operate via Cermak, Racine, Roosevelt to Ashland and resume the regular route. Southbound #9 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Eastbound #18 buses will operate over the regular route along 18th Street to Damen then will travel via Damen to Roosevelt continuing east past Halsted and resume the regular route along Roosevelt. Westbound #18 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Eastbound #60 buses will travel over the regular route along Blue Island to Cermak then will operate via Cermak to Racine continuing north past 14th Street and resume the regular route along Racine. Westbound #60 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

St. Jude Police Memorial March Detours #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express Buses

From 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. Sunday, May 1, #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express buses will be detoured due to closure of Museum Campus Drive and Solidarity Drive for the annual St. Jude Police Memorial March.
 
During this time, southbound #146 buses will be unable to make stops past McFetridge/Solidarity Drive. Buses instead will operate over the regular route along Columbus, east on McFetridge to the south side of the Field Museum. Northbound #146 buses will operate west on McFetridge over the regular route.
 

Annual Cinco de Mayo Parade Detours Four Bus Routes on Sunday

From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, May 1, #21 Cermak, #49 Western, #50 Damen and #94 South California buses will be detoured due to the closure of Cermak Road between Ashland and Marshall for the annual Cinco de Mayo parade.
 
Parade participants will begin assembling at Cermak/Damen at 9 a.m. The parade will step off at noon and proceed west on Cermak to Marshall then travel via Marshall, 24th Street to California and disband.
 
Eastbound #21 buses will operate over the regular route along Cermak to Kedzie then will travel via Kedzie, 26th Street/Blue Island to Cermak and then resume the regular route. Westbound #21 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Northbound #49 buses will travel over the regular route along Western to 26th Street then will operate via 26th Street, Kedzie, Ogden to Western and then resume the regular route. Southbound #49 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Northbound #50 buses will operate over the regular route along Damen to Blue Island then will travel via Blue Island, Ashland, 18th Street to Damen and then resume the regular route. Southbound #50 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Northbound #94 buses will travel over the regular route along California to 26th Street then will operate via 26th Street, Kedzie, Ogden to California and then resume the regular route. Southbound #94 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Greek Independence Parade on Sunday Temporarily Reroutes Buses 

On Sunday, May 1 from 1:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. #8 Halsted, #20 Madison and #126 Jackson buses will be detoured due to the closure of Halsted Street between Randolph and Van Buren for the annual Greek Hellenic Independence Day Parade. 
 
Participants will begin assembling on Randolph between Halsted and May at approximately 9 a.m. The parade will step off at 2 p.m. and proceed south on Halsted from Randolph to Van Buren and disband.
 
Northbound #8 buses will travel over the regular route along Halsted to Harrison then will operate via Harrison, Jefferson, Fulton to Halsted and resume the regular route. Southbound #8 buses will travel over the regular route along Halsted to Fulton then will operate via Fulton, Desplaines, Harrison to Halsted and resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #20 buses will operate over the regular route along Madison to Racine then will travel via Racine, Lake, Desplaines to Washington and then resume the regular route. Westbound #20 buses will operate over the regular route along Madison to Jefferson then will travel via Jefferson, Randolph, Racine to Madison and resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #126 buses will travel over the regular route along Jackson to Racine then will operate via Racine, Harrison, Jefferson to Jackson and then resume the regular route. Westbound #126 buses will travel over the regular route along Clinton past Van Buren to Harrison and then will operate via Harrison, Racine to Van Buren and then resume the regular route.
 

Restoration of #56 LaSalle Bus Stop at LaSalle/Grand

Effective at the start of service on Monday, May 2, the southbound near side stop at LaSalle/Grand will be returned to a far side stop. This bus stop is served by #156 LaSalle buses.
 

Ongoing Bus Service Changes

Temporary Changes Made to Bus Stops at State/Van Buren Affecting 11 Routes

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Monday, May 2, the following temporary bus stop changes have been made:
 
  • State/Van Buren: the northbound near side stop has been relocated to a far side stop.
  • State/Van Buren: the southbound near side stop has been temporarily removed from service.
 
These stops are served by #2 Hyde Park Express, #6 South Shore Express, #10 Museum of Science & Industry, #29 State, #36 Broadway, #62 Archer, #144 Marine/Michigan Express, #145 Wilson/Michigan Express, #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express, #147 Outer Drive Express and #148 Clarendon/Michigan Express buses.
 

Temporary Relocation of #152 Addison Bus Stop at Addison/Springfield

Currently in effect until Friday, May 6, the eastbound and westbound near side stops at Addison/Springfield have been removed from service due to a sewer reconstruction project. These stops are served by #152 Addison buses.
 

Construction Work on 83rd Street Detours Three Routes

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, May 13, #N5 South Shore, #26 South Shore Express and #71 71st buses are being detoured due to the closure of 83rd Street between Exchange and Bond avenues for construction work.
 
Southbound #N5, #26 and #71 buses are traveling over the regular route along South Shore to 79th Street then operating via 79th Street to Exchange and resuming the regular route past 83rd Street. Northbound #N5, #26 and #71 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Water Main Project Temporarily Detours Eastbound #21 Cermak Buses

Currently in effect until approximately 5 p.m. Monday, May 16, eastbound #21 Cermak buses are being detoured due to the closure of Cermak between Kostner and Kildare for a water main project.
 
Eastbound #21 buses are operating over the regular route along Cermak to Kostner then traveling via Kostner, Ogden to Cermak and resuming the regular route. Westbound #21 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 

Temporary Relocation of #126 Jackson Bus Stop at Harrison/Paulina

Currently in effect until approximately 6 p.m. Friday, July 15, the westbound near side stop at Harrison/Paulina served by #126 Jackson buses has been relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction.
 

Lane Restrictions near State and Grand Detour #29 State and #36 Broadway Buses

Due to lane restrictions associated with the Grand/State Red Line rehabilitation project at the northwest corner of State and Grand, #29 State and #36 Broadway buses are being detoured to adjacent streets until further notice.
 
Southbound #29 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand past State to Clark then traveling via Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #29 buses are traveling along the remaining open lane along State and over the regular route.
 
Southbound #36 buses are traveling over the regular route along State to Ontario then are operating via Ontario, Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #36 buses are operating over the regular route along Dearborn past Illinois to Ohio then traveling via Ohio to State and resuming the regular route.
 

Repairs to Bridge Detour #111 Pullman/111th/115th Buses

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, September 30, #111 Pullman/111th/115th buses are being detoured from Cottage Grove between 98th Street and 100th Place due to bridge repair work.
 
Southbound #111 buses are traveling over the regular route along 95th Street to King Drive then operating via King Drive, 103rd Street to Cottage Grove and resuming the regular route. Northbound #111 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Changes in Service along #8 Halsted Route for Bridge Reconstruction Project

Currently in effect until late-December 2011, Halsted Street between Division and the north branch of the Chicago River is closed due to a bridge reconstruction project.
 
Northbound #8 Halsted buses are traveling over the regular route along Halsted past Chicago to North Branch then are operating via North Branch, Cherry, Division to Halsted and then resuming the regular route. Southbound #8 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 
Changes to Bus Stops
  • Halsted/North Branch: the northbound far side stop on Halsted has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop on North Branch at Halsted.
  • Halsted/Division: the southbound far side stop has been temporarily relocated to a near side stop.
 

Service Changes for 13 CTA Bus Routes due to Wacker Drive Construction

Until further notice, 13 CTA bus routes that operate on or near Wacker Drive have undergone service changes due to several downtown street closures as part of the Revive Wacker Drive reconstruction project. 
 
These street closures are affecting service on the #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick, #19 United Center Express, #20 Madison, #56 Milwaukee, #60 Blue Island/26th, #120 Ogilvie/Wacker Express, #121 Union/Wacker Express, #122 Illinois Center/Ogilvie Express, #123 Illinois Center/Union Express, #124 Navy Pier, #125 Water Tower Express, #129 West Loop/South Loop and the #157 Streeterville/Taylor.

Service Adjustments Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project

Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project, Franklin Street between Harrison and Van Buren and Lower Wacker Drive between Randolph and Harrison are closed until May 2012. As a result of these closures and other street reconfigurations, the following changes in bus service currently are in effect:
 
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
Northbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses are traveling over the regular route along Harrison to Canal then are operating via Canal, Jackson to Franklin and resuming the regular route. Southbound #11 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes also have been made to bus stops served by northbound #11 buses:
 
  • Canal/Harrison: a far side stop has been added to service.
  • Canal/Jackson: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Jackson at the Chicago River: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • 404 W. Harrison: the mid-block stop has been removed from service.
  • Franklin/Van Buren: the far side stop has been removed from service.
 
#121 Union/Wacker Express
Northbound #121 Union/Wacker Express buses are operating over the regular route along Jackson past Wacker to Franklin then are traveling via Franklin, Lake, Post Place to Lower Wacker and then resuming the regular route.
 
Southbound #121 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand to Wabash then traveling via Wabash, Wacker, Franklin to Adams and then resuming the regular route.
 
#135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express buses are traveling south on Wacker to Jackson then are traveling east on Jackson past Franklin and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #135 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #136 Sheridan/LaSalle buses are operating south on Wacker to Van Buren then are traveling via Van Buren, Canal to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #136 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#156 LaSalle (PM Service Only)
During the evening rush period only, northbound #156 LaSalle buses departing from Union Station are traveling west on Van Buren to Wacker then are operating via Wacker to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary bus stop change has been made and is in effect for northbound #156 buses during the evening rush period only: 
 
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
