Events Affecting CTA Service Beginning the Weekend of April 21 - 23

April 20, 2006
4/20/06

Brown Line Capacity Expansion Project:
CTA is working to expand capacity on the Brown Line. When the work is completed, customers will benefit from longer trains during rush hour, and accessible, modern stations and platforms.

Throughout the Brown Line construction project, slow zones and single track operation are periodically necessary near construction activity so, as a general rule, rail customers should allow extra travel time.

Kimball and Francisco Stations to Temporarily Close Sunday
The Kimball and Francisco stations on the Brown Line will temporarily close Sunday, resuming weekday service Monday morning. During the temporary Sunday closure, Brown Line trains will operate between the Loop and Western station. CTA is providing a free bus shuttle for customers as a substitute for rail service. The bus shuttle will make stops at the Western station, Rockwell and Lawrence, Sacramento and Lawrence, Kedzie and Lawrence, Kedzie and Wilson, and at the Kimball station.
(See separate release.)

Red Line ? Clark Junction Track and Signal Renewal:
CTA is currently working to upgrade crossover tracks and signals throughout Clark Junction that will result in faster and more reliable rail service for customers because of improved maneuverability of train traffic throughout the junction. Because work at Clark Junction will require Red and Brown Line trains to share the same track on Saturday, April 22, between Addison and Armitage, customers are asked to allow additional travel time.

On Saturday, April 22, northbound Red Line customers at Belmont and Fullerton stations will board Red Line trains on the east side of the platform instead of the west side of the platform. Southbound Red Line customers will board on the west side of the platform instead of the east side of the platform.

At Addison station, southbound Red Line customers will notice the train briefly backtracking north once it departs the station in order to resume the rest of its southbound trip on another track. Southbound Red Line customers will board at the normal location at Addison.
